"The Gaza Strip is one of the most beleaguered envrionments on earth. Crammed into a space of 139 square miles (360 square kilometers), 1.8 million people live under an Israeli siege, enforcing conditions that continue to plummet to ever more unimaginable depths of degradation and despair. Gaza, however, is more than an endless encyclopedia of depressing statistics. It is also a place of fortitude, resistance, and imagination; a context in which inhabitants go to remarkable lengths to create the ordinary conditions of the everyday and to reject their exceptional status. Inspired by Gaza's inhabitants, this book builds on the positive capabilities of Gazans. It brings together environmentalists, planners, activists, and scholars from Palestine and Israel, the US, the UK, India, and elsewhere to create hopeful interventions that imagine a better place for Gazans and Palestinians. Abstract
The mouth agape is among humankind's most prevalent motifs, its imagery appearing across cultures, continents, and centuries, the significations of which hold all the grand preoccupations of the human experience: terror, hunger, and awe. Accepting Mikhail Bakhtin's estimation that the mouth is "the most important of all human features for the grotesque," this article examines the disparities between different renderings of these ontological black holes and their disparate implications in horror and g/Gothic texts. While the Scream visualizes terror's sonic expression, this article introduces it alongside what I call the Swallowing: the occasion where the object of fear (the monster) takes the form of a devouring other. A challenge to essentialist interpretations of Julia Kristeva's concept of abjection, analysis of the Swallowing lends support to Jack Halberstam's estimation of monsters and g/Gothic horror as narrative and cultural technologies. This article will therefore employ Jeffrey Jerome Cohen's method of "reading cultures by the monsters they engender." If we explore the Swallowing as it appears in both Black horror and Black-led horror films, what might be revealed about the ways b/Blackness has been rendered monstrous within the ideological lexicon of the white imagination? How does Black horror challenge these renderings? And further, what power might we identify in embracing monstrosity as a condition of being?

Time pressure, speed and the desire for instant consumption pervade accounts of contemporary lives. Why is it that people feel pressed for time, in what ways have societies changed to create this condition, and with what implications? This book examines critical contentions in the field of time and society, ranging from the emergence and dominance of 'clock time' and time discipline, the time pressures associated with consumer culture, through to technological innovation and the acceleration of everyday lives. Through extensive analysis of empirical studies of the changing ways in which people organise and experience home, work, leisure, consumption and personal relationships, time pressure is shown to be a problem of the coordination and synchronization of activities. Appreciation of temporal rhythms – formed and reproduced through the organisation and performance of social practices – is necessary to tackle the challenges of coordination, and offers new avenues for analysing social issues such as sustainable consumption, health and well-being. Introduction: The Norwegian health care system is well organized within its two main sectors - primary health and long term care on the one hand, and hospitals and specialist services on the other. However, the relation between them lacks mediating structures.Policy practice: Enhancing coordination between primary and secondary health care has been central in Norwegian health care policy the last decade. In 2003 a committee was appointed to identify coordination problems and proposed a lot of practical and organisational recommendations. It relied on an approach challenging primary and secondary health care in shared geographical regions to take action. However, these proposals were not implemented. In 2008 a new Minister of Health and Care worked out plans under the key term "Coordination Reform". These reform plans superseded and expanded the previous policy initiatives concerning cooperation, but represented also a shift in focus to a regulative and centralised strategy, including new health legislation, structural reforms and use of economic incentives that are now about to be implemented.Discussion: The article analyses the perspectives and proposals of the previous and the recent reform initiatives in Norway and discusses them in relation to integrated care measures implemented in Denmark and Sweden.

Die Forderung nach Open Access wird wissenschaftslogisch (Beschleunigung der wissenschaftlichen Kommunikation), finanziell (Linderung der Zeitschriftenkrise), sozial (Verringerung des Digital Divide), demokratietheoretisch (Zugang zu Informationen ermöglicht Partizipation) und sozialpolitisch (freier Zugang zu Informationen nivelliert Ungleichheiten) begründet. Dieser Beitrag untersucht einige dieser Annahmen mittels sozialwissenschaftlicher Modelle. Von Befunden aus der Bildungssoziologie und Sozialpsychologie bereits hinlänglich widerlegte Naivitäten wie die Annahme, Zugang zu Informationen wirke per se nivellierend, bleiben außen vor. Im Zentrum stehen die Erkenntnisse aus Pierre Bourdieus Kapitaltheorie für die Akzeptanz von Open Access und die Erkenntnisse aus Michel Foucaults Diskursanalyse für die Wirkung von Open Access innerhalb des Digital-Divide-Konzepts. Bourdieus Kapitaltheorie deutet darauf hin, dass für die Akzeptanz von Open Access bei Wissenschaftlern nicht hagiographische, wissenschaftslogische Argumente wie die Beschleunigung der Kommunikation ausschlaggebend sein dürften, sondern machtlogische Argumente: Entscheidend für die Akzeptanz von Open Access (und konzeptionell verbundener Modelle wie etwa alternative metrische Verfahren) ist, wie Wissenschaftler dessen mögliche Auswirkungen auf bestehende Akkumulationsprozesse wissenschaftlichen Kapitals wahrnehmen. Hinsichtlich der Wirkung von Open Access im Digital-Divide-Modell legt Foucaults Diskursanalyse nahe, dass Open Access Abhängigkeiten, Szientozentrismen und Ethnozentrismen verstärken kann. ; Claims for Open Access are mostly underpinned with science-related (Open Access accelerates scientific communication), financial (Open Access alleviates the serials crisis), social (Open Access reduces the Digital Divide), democracy-related (Open Access facilitates participation) and socio-political (Open Access levels disparities) arguments.
