She is the author of Beyond the Color Line and the Iron Curtain: Reading Encounters between Black and Red, 1922–1963 (Duke University Press, 2002) and is currently working on a second book project titled Authenticating Nations: Cultural Fictions of Soviet and American Women during the Cold War.
