We present a map of the total intrinsic reddening across similar or equal to 34 deg(2) of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) derived using optical (ugriz) and near-infrared (IR; YJK(s)) spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of background galaxies. The reddening map is created using a subsample of 29 274 galaxies with low levels of intrinsic reddening based on the LEPHARE chi(2) minimization SED-fitting routine. We find statistically significant enhanced levels of reddening associated with the main body of the SMC compared with regions in the outskirts [Delta E(B - V) similar or equal to 0.3 mag]. A comparison with literature reddening maps of the SMC shows that, after correcting for differences in the volume of the SMC sampled, there is good agreement between our results and maps created using young stars. In contrast, we find significant discrepancies between our results and maps created using old stars or based on longer wavelength far-IR dust emission that could stem from biased samples in the former and uncertainties in the far-IR emissivity and the optical properties of the dust grains in the latter. Here we investigate carbonate–silicate rocks hosted in Atg‐serpentinite and prograde chlorite (Chl‐) harzburgite in the Milagrosa and Almirez ultramafic massifs of the palaeo‐subducted Nevado‐Filábride Complex (NFC, Betic Cordillera, S. Spain). These massifs provide a unique opportunity to study the stability of carbonate during subduction metamorphism at P–T conditions before and after the dehydration of Atg‐serpentinite in a warm subduction setting. In the Milagrosa massif, carbonate–silicate rocks occur as lenses of Ti‐clinohumite–diopside–calcite marbles, diopside–dolomite marbles and antigorite–diopside–dolomite rocks hosted in clinopyroxene‐bearing Atg‐serpentinite. In Almirez, carbonate–silicate rocks are hosted in Chl‐harzburgite and show a high‐grade assemblage composed of olivine, Ti‐clinohumite, diopside, chlorite, dolomite, calcite, Cr‐ bearing magnetite, pentlandite and rare aragonite inclusions. These NFC carbonate–silicate rocks have variable CaO and CO2 contents at nearly constant Mg/ Si ratio and high Ni and Cr contents, indicating that their protoliths were variable mixtures of serpentine and Ca‐carbonate (i.e., ophicarbonates). Thermodynamic modelling shows that the carbonate–silicate rocks attained peak metamorphic conditions similar to those of their host serpentinite (Milagrosa massif; 550–600°C and 1.0–1.4 GPa) and Chl‐harzburgite (Almirez massif; 1.7–1.9 GPa and 680°C). Microstructures, mineral chemistry and phase relations indicate that the hybrid carbonate–silicate bulk rock compositions formed before prograde metamorphism, likely during seawater hydrothermal alteration, and subsequently underwent subduction metamorphism. In the CaO–MgO–SiO2 ternary, these processes resulted in a compositional variability of NFC serpentinite‐hosted carbonate–silicate rocks along the serpentine‐calcite mixing trend, similar to that observed in serpentinite‐hosted carbonate‐rocks in other palaeo‐subducted metamorphic terranes. Thermodynamic modelling using classical models of binary H2O–CO2 fluids shows that the compositional variability along this binary determines the temperature of the main devolatilization reactions, the fluid composition and the mineral assemblages of reaction products during prograde subduction metamorphism. Thermodynamic modelling considering electrolytic fluids reveals that H2O and molecular CO2 are the main fluid species and charged carbon‐bearing species occur only in minor amounts in equilibrium with carbonate–silicate rocks in warm subduction settings. Consequently, accounting for electrolytic fluids at these conditions slightly increases the solubility of carbon in the fluids compared with predictions by classical binary H2O–CO2 fluids, but does not affect the topology of phase relations in serpentinite‐hosted carbonate‐ rocks. Phase relations, mineral composition and assemblages of Milagrosa and Almirez (meta)‐serpentinite‐hosted carbonate–silicate rocks are consistent with local equilibrium between an infiltrating fluid and the bulk rock composition and indicate a limited role of infiltration‐driven decarbonation. Dottorato di ricerca in Scienze Storiche e dei Beni Culturali ; Il presente elaborato espone i risultati ottenuti applicando le metodologie di indagine legate all'analisi, all'elaborazione e all'interpretazione delle immagini aeree e satellitari per lo studio e il monitoraggio del sito di Falerii Novi e del suo territorio. Lo studio rientra nell'ambito del più ampio progetto europeo CLIMA (Cultural Landscape risk Identification, Management and Assessment)1, dal carattere interdisciplinare e il cui scopo ultimo è stato quello di sviluppare un webGIS funzionale alle politiche di pianificazione per la conservazione e il monitoraggio del patrimonio archeologico, con particolare attenzione all'impatto delle lavorazioni agricole sui resti antichi sepolti; in particolare, la presente ricerca rientra in quanto previsto dal progetto nelle attività di Mapping and Detection, ovvero di identificazione e mappatura, mediante dati telerilevati selezionati, delle evidenze archeologiche sepolte relative a questo caso studio. Il lavoro qui presentato trae spunto dai fruttuosi risultati ottenuti in uno studio del 2004, in cui l'esame di una fortunata serie di fotogrammi aerei storici scattati nel 1958 e 1960 ha consentito di individuare tracce pertinenti a diverse strutture sepolte del suburbio settentrionale di Falerii Novi, permettendo di ricostruire una planimetria dell'area molto più dettagliata di quanto fosse stato ottenuto dalle prospezioni geofisiche condotte dai ricercatori della British School at Rome negli anni 1997-1998 e 2007-2008, le quali, d'altro canto, sono state invece utili per la ricostruzione dell'assetto dello schema urbano della città. Le grandi potenzialità offerte dall'utilizzo delle foto aeree hanno pertanto indirizzato questa ricerca ad allargare il raggio di indagine al contesto territoriale in cui la città romana fu fondata, e si è successivamente sviluppata, e a esaminare tutte le riprese aeree disponibili, sia storiche (voli S.A.R.A. degli anni Trenta del XX secolo, R.A.F. del 1944, A.M. e S.A.F. degli anni Cinquanta-Sessanta e Lisandrelli della metà degli anni Settanta) che recenti (ortofoto A.G.E.A., 1988-2012). Allo studio poi di questi dati telerilevati, si è aggiunto quello di cinque immagini satellitari ottiche ad alta risoluzione (una QuickBird-2 del 2003, due GeoEye-1 del 2010 e 2013 e due WordView-2 del 2011 e 2014), per le quali sono state approfondite e applicate diverse tecniche di processing dei dati pancromatici e multispettrali mediante l'utilizzo del software ENVI di elaborazione dei dati satellitari con lo scopo di agevolare la lettura e la fotointerpretazione delle tracce archeologiche. La ricerca è stata quindi finalizzata, da una parte, ad acquisire nuovi dati utili alla comprensione della topografia antica della città e del territorio (soprattutto sulla viabilità) e, dall'altra, a produrre una cartografia tematica di dettaglio costruita in ambiente GIS e contenente la georeferenziazione sia delle tracce archeologiche individuate mediante fotointerpretazione, sia delle strutture archeologiche note, mancando una carta archeologica a grande scala dell'area esaminata. 1 Progetto coordinato dall'Università della Tuscia, sotto la direzione scientifica del Prof. Stefano De Angeli. ; This work highlights the results of remote sensing application in the study and monitoring of the Falerii Novi site and the surrounding area, throught the analysis, processing and interpretation of aerial and satellite images. It is part of the CLIMA European project (Cultural Landscape risk Identification, Management and Assessment), whose final aim was to develop a webGIS for cultural heritage policies, such as the territorial planning, the conservation and monitoring of archaeological site, with a particular focus on the impact of agricultural work on ancient buried structures. In particular, the present research falls within the "Mapping and Detection" activities of the project, ie identification and mapping of the marks related to buried archaeological structures by the examination of selected remote sensing data. This study is inspired by an interesting research of 2004, where the examination of various unpublished historical aerial photos taken in 1958 and 1961, allowed a detailed reconstruction of the northern suburb plan of the city; this plan has been found to be much more detailed than that obtained through geophysical surveys conducted by researchers of the British School at Rome in the years 1997-1998 and 2007-2008 (on the other hand, these activities were very useful for the reconstruction of the urban layout of Falerii Novi). So, the potential offered by the use of aerial photos has directed the present research to expand this type of investigation into the surronding area context where the Roman city was founded and developed, and to examine all the available aerial photos, both historical (S.A.R.A. flights of 1937, R.A.F. flights of 1944, A.M. and S.A.F. flights of the fifties-sixties and Lisandrelli flights of 1975) and recent ones (orthophotos of AGEA taken between 1988 and 2012). The examination of five very hight resolution satellite images (one QuickBird-2 of 2003, two GeoEye-1 of 2010 and 2013 and two WordView-2 of 2011 and 2014) has been added: for each image different processing techniques have been studied and applied by the use of ENVI software in order to facilitate and improve the reading and photo-interpretation of archaeological marks. The research was useful, on the one hand, to acquire new data about ancient topography of the city and its surrounding area (especially about ancient road system) and, on the other hand, to produce a detailed archaeological map using a GIS platform with georeferenced archaeological marks, ancient buried structures and ancient exposed structures.

Introduction. The socio-philosophical and philosophical-legal analysis of the processes of law components exchange (legal norms, articles, prin­ciples, parts of legislation, legal ideology, etc.) be­tween legal systems (legal spheres) of different coun­tries has shown that this exchange takes place both in history and modernity. Its comprehension first of all began in Western law, starting from the Middle Ages. The assimilation of law components by some coun­tries from other countries is called the legal recep­tion. Historically, from the Middle Ages to the present day, the reception of Roman law componets by Euro­pean states has been the first and most widespread. But in the XX and especially at the beginning of the XXI centuries (in the era of globalization), the recep­tion of the components of law in the system of inter­actions of simultaneously existing states, as well as the interactions of countries and the international le­gal environment, developed significantly. In this case, it became necessary to study the legal mechanisms and patterns of legal interchange of the law compo­nents on an international interaction scale, in the era of globalization. The purposes of the article are: to consider some patterns of interactions between legal systems of different countries and other legal enti­ties, in the context of globalization (including legal receptions) from the standpoint of social philosophy; to identify the necessary categorical apparatus, to show the significance of introducing the results into professional legal (law) education. Methodology and research methods: dialectical and system-philosoph­ical approaches, methods of legal comparative studies, induction and deduction, analysis and synthesis, integration of the results. Results. There have been investigated the interstate processes of legal systems components interchange which lead to carrying out the reception of law by some countries and donation of legal components from other countries and legal entities. This type of diverse supranational legal rela­tions is designated and investigated in the article as the dialectic of the processes of legal receptivity and legal donation. Legal entities, participants in these processes, are designated as legal recipients and le­gal donors. The historically formed stages of legal re­ceptivity are defined: in time parameters from the past to the present; in the time parameters of the present. Different types of classifications of legal receptions have been grouped (ten such types have been iden­tified). The process of legal donation from leading countries and from international law has also been investigated; its main forms are defined as friendly, aggressive-aggressive, manipulative and competitive legal donation. It is shown that countries – non-inde­pendent legal recipients – are in the most dependent position. The specifics of legal reception – donation processes in modern Russian constitutionalism and in Russian law as a whole have been identified. Conclu­sion. The relevance of including the main laws of le­gal receptivity and legal donation as separate topics in professional legal education in the era of global­ization is substantiated. ; Введение. Социально-философский и философско-правовой анализ процессов обме­на компонентами права (юридическими нормами, статьями, принципами, частями законодатель­ства, правовой идеологии и пр.) между правовыми системами (правовыми сферами) разных стран показал, что этот обмен имеет место в истории и современности. Его осмысление раньше всего началось в западном праве, начиная со Средневеко­вья. Ассимиляция одними странами компонентов права от других стран получила название правовой рецепции. Исторически первой и наиболее распро­страненной стала рецепция государствами Европы, начиная со Средневековья и вплоть до настоящего времени, компонентов римского права. Но в ХХ в. и особенно в начале ХXI в. (в эпоху глобализации) зна­чительное развитие получили рецепции компонентов права в системе взаимодействий одновременно су­ществующих государств, а также взаимодействий стран и международно-правовой среды. В этом слу­чае появилась необходимость исследовать правовые механизмы и закономерности правового взаимооб­мена компонентами права в масштабах междуна­родных взаимодействий в эпоху глобализации. Цель статьи: с позиций социальной философии рассмо­треть некоторые закономерности взаимодействий правовых систем разных стран и др. правовых субъ­ектов в условиях глобализации (включающие пра­вовые рецепции), выявить необходимый для этого категориальный аппарат, показать значимость внедрения полученных результатов в профессио­нальное правовое (юридическое) образование. Методология и методы исследования: диалектический и системно-философский подходы, методы право­вой компаративистики, индукции и дедукции, анали­за и синтеза, интеграции полученных результатов. Результаты. Исследованы межгосударственные процессы взаимообмена компонентами правовых систем, в результате которых осуществляются рецепции права одними странами и донорство пра­вовых компонентов от других стран и правовых субъектов. Этот вид разнообразных надгосудар­ственных правовых отношений обозначен и иссле­дован в статье как диалектика процессов правового рецепторства и правового донорства. Правовые субъекты, участники данных процессов, обозначены как правовые реципиенты и правовые доноры. Опре­делены исторически сложившиеся этапы правового рецепторства: во временных параметрах от про­шлого к настоящему; во временных параметрах настоящего времени. Сгруппированы разные виды классификаций правовых рецепций (выявлено десять таких видов). Также исследован процесс правового донорства от лидирующих стран и от междуна­родного права; определены его основные формы: содружественное, агрессивно-захватническое, ма­нипулятивное и конкурентное правовое донорство. Показано, что в наиболее зависимом состоянии ока­зываются страны – несамостоятельные правовые реципиенты. Выявлениа специфика процессов пра­вового рецепторства – донорства в современном российском конституционализме и в целом в россий­ском праве. Заключение. Обоснована актуальность включения основных закономерностей правового рецепторства и правового донорства в эпоху гло­бализации в качестве отдельных тем в профессио­нальное юридическое образование.

The purpose of the article is to investigate postcolonial discourse in theatrical art, in particular in the dramatization of contemporary Ukrainian prose. The article is devoted to a study of the postcolonial discourse in Ukraine's theatrical art, something that makes for an essentially untapped research field yet. This is because in the traditions of European and American theatre postcolonial studies normally relate to studies of theatrical processes in countries that have emerged from the colonial dependence of Britain and France. However, today there are good reasons, and a capability, to clearly distinguish postcolonial discourse in Ukrainian cultural life. Research methods. In exploring this problem the author relies on Edward Said's fundamental work "Orientalism", which outlines the main aspects of the postcolonial discourse: colonial, with a focus on influence being made on dependent cultures, and anti-colonial, meaning what we might call a reproduction of resistance to imperial influence. Such sources as political writings by Roman Szporluk, books by Eva Thompson and Alexander Etkind were also important for the author. The academic novelty of the article lies in the fact that for the first time ever the postcolonial discourse in Ukrainian culture is explored on the basis of theatrical works derived from bringing modern Ukrainian prose to stage. In the opinion of local literary critics, initially the colonial discourse was most clearly manifested in the texts of Oksana Zabuzhko, Yuri Andrukhovych and Maria Matios, which all gave much thought to the traumatic consequences of the Soviet repressions and the Second World War, activities of so called people of the 1960s Ukrainian Sixties, dependences on the totalitarian regime's cultural and historical myths. Accordingly, in its search for proper texts, the Ukrainian theatre began to actively turn to prose in the early 2000s. Among direct research materials are numerous pieces of stage work made of prose belonging to such Ukrainian cult writers as Oksana Zabuzhko, Yuri Andrukhovych, Maria Matios, Vasyl Kozheljanko, Sergii Zhadan and some others, all of whom provided an opportunity for publics to get acquainted with previously tabooed political and ethical issues. The author pays special attention to the performance called "Gagarin and Barcelona" presented in the Kyiv Young Theatre, which represents a stage interpretation of six short stories by contemporary Ukrainian writers. In conclusion, author points out that thanks to the performance "Gagarin and Barcelona" the postcolonial discourse has found in many ways its unique performance-based manifestation in Ukrainian culture. ; Цель статьи – исследовать постколониальный дискурс в театральном искусстве, в частности в инсценизациях современной украинской прозы. Методология исследования. Изучение постколониального дискурса в театральном искусстве Украины, по сути, является неосвоенным полем для науки. Исследуя данную проблематику, автор руководствовался фундаментальной работой Эдварда Саида «Ориентализм», в которой сформулированы главные аспекты постколониального дискурса: колониальный – влияние на зависимые культуры и антиколониальный – воспроизведение сопротивления имперскому влиянию. Также принципиально важными для автора были политологические труды Романа Шпорлюка, книги Евы Томпсон и Александра Эткинда. Научная новизна статьи заключается в том, что здесь впервые постколониальный дискурс в украинской культуре исследуется на материале инсценизаций современной украинской прозы. Согласно мнению украинских литературоведов, постколониальный дискурс поначалу очень мощно проявился в текстах Оксаны Забужко, Юрия Андруховича, Марии Матиос, где осмыслялись травматические последствия советских репрессий, опыт второй мировой войны, деятельность украинских шестидесятников, зависимость от культурно-исторических мифов тоталитарного режима. Соответственно, в поисках актуальных текстов украинский театр в начале 2000-х годов стал активно обращаться к отечественной прозе. Фактическим материалом данного исследования стали многочисленные инсценизации прозаических произведений культовых украинских писателей: Оксаны Забужко, Юрия Андруховича, Марии Матиос, Василия Кожелянко, Сергея Жадана и других, предоставившие публике возможность ознакомиться с ранее табуированной политической и этической проблематикой. Отдельное внимание автор уделяет спектаклю «Гагарин и Барселона» Киевского Молодого театра, в основе которого положена инсценизация сразу шести рассказов современных украинских писателей. В заключении исследователь утверждает, что в спектакле «Гагарин и Барселона» постколониальный дискурс обрел в украинской культуре уникальное перформативное проявление. ; Мета статті – дослідити постколоніальний дискурс у театральному мистецтві, зокрема в інсценізаціях сучасної української прози. Методологія дослідження. Робота присвячена дослідженню постколоніального дискурсу в театральному мистецтві України, що, по суті, є неосвоєним дослідницьким полем. The article is devoted to a study of the postcolonial discourse in Ukraine's theatrical art, something that makes for an essentially untapped research field yet. This is because in the traditions of European and American theatre postcolonial studies normally relate to studies of theatrical processes in countries that have emerged from the colonial dependence of Britain and France. However, today there are good reasons, and a capability, to clearly distinguish postcolonial discourse in Ukrainian cultural life. Research methods. In exploring this problem the author relies on Edward Said's fundamental work "Orientalism", which outlines the main aspects of the postcolonial discourse: colonial, with a focus on influence being made on dependent cultures, and anti-colonial, meaning what we might call a reproduction of resistance to imperial influence. Such sources as political writings by Roman Szporluk, books by Eva Thompson and Alexander Etkind were also important for the author. The academic novelty of the article lies in the fact that for the first time ever the postcolonial discourse in Ukrainian culture is explored on the basis of theatrical works derived from bringing modern Ukrainian prose to stage. In the opinion of local literary critics, initially the colonial discourse was most clearly manifested in the texts of Oksana Zabuzhko, Yuri Andrukhovych and Maria Matios, which all gave much thought to the traumatic consequences of the Soviet repressions and the Second World War, activities of so called people of the 1960s Ukrainian Sixties, dependences on the totalitarian regime's cultural and historical myths. Accordingly, in its search for proper texts, the Ukrainian theatre began to actively turn to prose in the early 2000s. Among direct research materials are numerous pieces of stage work made of prose belonging to such Ukrainian cult writers as Oksana Zabuzhko, Yuri Andrukhovych, Maria Matios, Vasyl Kozheljanko, Sergii Zhadan and some others, all of whom provided an opportunity for publics to get acquainted with previously tabooed political and ethical issues. The author pays special attention to the performance called "Gagarin and Barcelona" presented in the Kyiv Young Theatre, which represents a stage interpretation of six short stories by contemporary Ukrainian writers. It is difficult to categorize the concept of Prodigality: between madness, weakness of mind or a simple trait of character. The legislator hesitates not only about the solution to be adopted but also about the need to intervene.The Romans were undoubtedly the first to define and codify the curatorship of the prodigals in the law of the XII Tables by implementing the legal inability of the prodigal.The society of the Ancien Régime is a fertile ground for the development of prodigality. Indeed, both the bourgeoisie and the nobles wish to protect their wealth from the voracity of an heir. The former legal inability due to prodigality is then exhumed alongside other devices, constituting a real arsenal available to families.The relatives are ruthless, sometimes using very easily the legal measures at their disposal against the one who endangers the durability of the family inheritance. With prodigality, often associated with other failings such as gambling, debauchery, drunkenness or idleness, modes of neutralization become privileged tools not only to put an end to excessive spending but also to control attitudes that disturb the social order on which Ancien Régime society is based. The extension of the legal inability to "madly" remarried widows to persons too far from their social condition (article 182 of the Blois Ordinance of 1579), regardless of any prodigality, is a perfect illustration of this.Despite the changes made to the legal inability during the Ancien Régime, this provision has critical flaws (cost and length of the procedure, humiliating nature, difficulty in providing proof of prodigality, uncertain outcome) which will lead families to turn away from it. Thus, the excesses of the prodigals are sometimes curbed by a separation of property between husband and wife, an unofficial disinheritance , a fideicommissum , a promise to keep the succession or a confinement.The excesses of families are denounced by the Enlightenment. Thus, the royal power supervises certain devices more strictly and the magistrates themselves are reluctant to pronounce prohibitions for simple prodigals. To compensate for this lack, they are even at the origin of an original provision: the judicial council.With the Revolution, the question arose whether to continue interfering with the prodigal's affairs. Avec la prodigalité, souvent associés à d'autres travers comme le jeu, la débauche, l'ivrognerie ou l'oisiveté, les modes de neutralisation deviennent des outils privilégiés non plus uniquement pour mettre un terme aux dépenses excessives mais également pour contrôler des attitudes qui dérangent l'ordre social sur lequel la société d'Ancien Régime repose. L'extension de l'interdiction aux veuves « follement » remariées à des personnes trop éloignées de leurs conditions (article 182 de l'ordonnance de Blois de 1579), indépendamment de toute prodigalité, en est une parfaite illustration.Malgré les modifications apportées à l'interdiction au cours de l'Ancien Régime, cette disposition porte en elle des vices rédhibitoires (coût et longueur de la procédure, caractère humiliant, difficulté de rapporter la preuve de la prodigalité, issue incertaine) qui conduiront les familles à s'en détourner. Ainsi, les excès des prodigues sont parfois jugulés par une séparation de biens entre mari et femme, une exhérédation officieuse, une substitution fidéicommissaire, une promesse de garder succession ou un enfermement.Les excès des familles sont dénoncés par les Lumières. Ainsi, le pouvoir royal encadre plus strictement certains dispositifs et les magistrats eux-mêmes rechignent à prononcer des interdictions pour de simples prodigues. Pour pallier à ce manque, ils sont à l'origine d'une disposition originale : le conseil judiciaire.Avec la révolution, la question se pose de savoir s'il faut intervenir dans les affaires du prodigue. En tout état de cause si mesure de neutralisation il y a, il faudra qu'elle respecte les libertés individuelles et le droit de propriété. Les travaux préparatoires du code civil révèlent, qu'après d'âpres débats, le prodigue continuera de bénéficier d'une protection juridique transposant dans le code la création jurisprudentielle du conseil judiciaire.Cette étude propose d'examiner les différentes techniques juridiques mises en place mais également les fondements qui ont innervé législation, activité juridictionnelle et doctrine.

In den letzten Jahren hat die interdependente Mobilität von Menschen, Objekten und Informationen zunehmende Beachtung in wissenschaftlichen und populären Diskursen gefunden. Damit gehen vermehrt auch Fragen nach Machstrukturen, Auswirkungen und Barrieren dieser Phänomene einher. Als Disziplinen, die sich mit medialen Praktiken, deren Akteur*innen, historisch gewachsenen Machtungleichgewichten und deren Folgen befassen, können Postkoloniale Studien und Medienwissenschaften einen wichtigen Beitrag liefern, um über derartige Entwicklungen nachzudenken. In diesem Kontext verspricht der von Kai Merten und Lucia Krämer herausgegebene Sammelband Postcolonial Studies Meets Media Studies. A Critical Encounter eine bereichernde Begegnung dieser zwei Disziplinen. Erschienen in der Reihe "Postcolonial Studies", die Werke über (post)koloniale Kontexte sowie mit postkolonialen theoretischen Perspektiven auf diverse Forschungsgegenstände bzw. andere Disziplinen vereint, fügt sich der vorliegende Sammelband als Gesamtprojekt vor allem in letztere Kategorie ein. Die Zusammensetzung der Autor*innen zeigt ein leichtes Übergewicht an Beitragenden aus den Medienwissenschaften, wenngleich viele von ihnen postkoloniale Interessen in ihre Biographie integriert haben. Auf inhaltlicher Ebene wird zudem ersichtlich, dass die Beitragenden durchaus eine Auseinandersetzung mit postkolonialen Theorien und Konzepten praktizieren. In ihrer Einleitung argumentieren Merten und Krämer, dass es eines vertieften Austauschs zwischen Postkolonialen Studien und Medienwissenschaften bedürfe. Aus Sicht der Medienwissenschaften sehen sie den möglichen Beitrag Postkolonialer Studien in einer transdisziplinären und kontext-sensitiven Perspektive auf Machtstrukturen in der globalen Medienlandschaft. Gerade diese Perspektive macht auch ein zentrales, verbindendes Element der Beiträge aus. Das Ziel der Herausgeber*innen ist somit, Autor*innen aus beiden Disziplinen zusammenzubringen, um eine gegenseitige Anwendung der jeweiligen Perspektiven zu fördern – ein Ausblick, der große Lust macht, tiefer in die einzelnen Kapitel einzusteigen. In dem ersten Teil "Global Media" setzen sich die Beitragenden mit globalisierungstheoretischen Annahmen auseinander. Terry Flew und Bonnie Rui Liu zeigen mit ihrer kritischen Perspektive, dass ICT4D[1]-Projekte Ideen zu Medienkonvergenz mit modernisierungstheoretischen Paradigmen verbinden, indem sie den westlichen Umgang mit digitalen Medien als zu erreichende Norm darstellen und postkoloniale materielle Abhängigkeiten in der Medienindustrie verschärfen. Kai Hafez erklärt in seinem Beitrag anhand der Systemtheorie die Globalisierung von Massenkommunikation. Mit großer Aufmerksamkeit für diverse Einflussfaktoren und Widersprüche – aber leider mit wenig Berücksichtigung postkolonialer Fragestellungen – verweist er auf die Kontext-Abhängigkeit von internationaler Konnektivität und gesellschaftlichem Wandel durch Mediennutzung sowie auf Interdependenzen zwischen Mediensystemen und wirtschaftlichen, politischen und sozialen Systemen. Brian Creech und Anandam Kavoori zeichnen die wandelnde Stellung der Person Wael Ghonim als Informant über den Arabischen Frühling nach. Durch eine postkoloniale Perspektive auf transkulturelle Subjektivität betonen sie dabei Möglichkeiten für hybridisierte Identitäten als Alternative zu einem territorialen Verständnis von Kultur in transkulturellen Medienwissenschaften. Uriya Shavit verdeutlicht mit den Figuren der "Lonely Sojourners" und der "Passive Transnationals" (S. 85), dass die Globalisierung der Massenmedienlandschaft nicht automatisch zu mehr Kohäsion diasporischer Gruppen oder mehr Engagement im sogenannten Herkunftsland führt, sondern zu diverseren Beziehungsmustern zwischen Individuen und den jeweiligen Gesellschaften. Der Teil zu "Media Politics" eröffnet verschiedene Perspektiven auf politische Institutionen, deren Verbindung mit (post-)kolonialen Gesellschaftsstrukturen, oder deren Interaktion mit wirtschaftlichen Akteur*innen. Barbara Thomass beschreibt, wie postkoloniale Machtstrukturen zentrale Dimensionen der nationalen und internationalen Medienpolitik durchziehen. Diese reichen von der Bewertung und Regulierung von Mediensystemen, über die Berücksichtigung kultureller Diversität durch medienpolitische Akteur*innen bis hin zu der Integration von Belangen benachteiligter Gruppen in konkreten Medienpolitiken. Rinella Cere nutzt das Verständnis von Hegemonie nach Antonio Gramsci als verbindendes Element von Medienwissenschaften und Postkolonialen Studien. Sie zeigt, wie (gegen-)hegemoniale Repräsentationen und soziale Strukturen durch postkoloniale Konzepte (z.B. Subalternität) erklärt werden können. Lars Eckstein zeigt, wie eine postkoloniale Perspektive auf Piraterie Eurozentrismen in aktuellen Debatten entlarven und gleichzeitig eine differenzierte Analyse von "cultures of copy" (S. 174) in postkolonialen Kontexten bieten kann. Anhand der Reproduktion von Kassetten in Indien und Nord-Nigeria erläutert er, wie diese Perspektive auch universalistische Verständnisse von (geistigem) Eigentum und dem Selbst als westlich positioniert entlarvt. Oliver Lindner verweist auf die neokolonialen Mechanismen Exotisierung, imperiale Nostalgie und inszenierte Marginalität in den Inhalten und Vermarktungsstrategien postkolonialer Kulturprodukte wie Taiye Selasis Roman Ghana Must Go (2013) oder dem Film Slumdog Millionaire (2009). Ana Christina Mendes nutzt die New Sociology of Literature, um kommerzielle Dynamiken in englischsprachiger Erzählliteratur südasiatischer Autor*innen zu untersuchen. Hierfür verwebt sie plausibel internationale wirtschaftspolitische Entwicklungen mit dem Inhalt der Werke und deren Erfolg durch kontextbedingte Erwartungshaltungen westlich verorteter Leser*innen. Sven Werkmeister zeichnet schließlich im letzten Teil "Media History" die gegenseitige Bedingung von Imperialismus/Kolonialismus und der Stellung der Schriftsprache sowie das Auftreten von Gegenmomenten in dieser Entwicklung nach. Als Beispiele führt er die Erzählungen von ersten Begegnungen zwischen westlichen und nicht-westlichen Mächten an sowie die Versuche Carl Einsteins und Vertreter*innen des Dadaismus, nicht-westliche Kommunikationsformen in alphabetische Schrift zu konvertieren. Schließlich leitet er hieraus Implikationen für eine Postkoloniale Literaturwissenschaft und Mediengeschichte ab. Mit diesen vier Teilen zu Globalisierung, Politik, Industrie und Geschichte deckt der Sammelband wichtige Bereiche der internationalen Medienlandschaft ab. Noch bedeutender aber ist das breite Spektrum, das die einzelnen Beiträge auffächern, von einer Bewertung der Schriftsprache als solche, über Praktiken wie dem Medienkonsum von diasporischen Akteur*innen oder der Vermarktung postkolonialer Medienprodukte bis hin zur Analyse diverser Medienformate wie Film, Literatur und Musik. Dabei verbinden die Autor*innen – teils innerhalb ihrer Beiträge, teils durch ihre jeweilige Perspektive auf ähnliche Phänomene – Problematiken von Repräsentation und Materialität in postkolonialen und neokolonialen Kontexten. So tragen sie zu einer Perspektive bei, die Komplexität und Kontingenz mitdenkt und sich gegen einen Determinismus sowohl in medialen Praktiken als auch in internationalen und interkulturellen Beziehungen wendet. Dies wird noch verstärkt durch eine ausführliche sozio-ökonomische und historische Kontextualisierung medialer Praktiken, die viele Autor*innen in ihre Beiträge einfließen lassen. In diesem Sinne leistet der Sammelband zum einen einen Beitrag zu Postkolonialen Studien, die postkoloniale und neokoloniale Mechanismen in Repräsentation und Materialität durch eine medienwissenschaftliche Perspektive auf Konzepte wie Kommerzialisierung besser sichtbar machen können. Zum anderen ermöglichen die hier vorgestellten postkolonialen Perspektiven es Medienwissenschaftler*innen, ihre Gegenstände und theoretischen Annahmen aufbauend auf intensivem Kontextverständnis in Fragen von Ungleichheit einzubetten. Was den angekündigten Austausch zwischen Postkolonialen Studien und Medienwissenschaften angeht, so findet dieser also durchaus innerhalb der Beiträge statt. Allerdings hätte der Sammelband von mehr Interaktion zwischen ihnen profitiert. Auch wenn dies einen beträchtlichen Mehraufwand bedeutet, hätten mehr Bezüge und Dialog zwischen den Autor*innen dem Werk noch eine besondere Note gegeben. Zudem sind zentrale Begriffe wie 'postkolonial' oder 'Medien' in manchen Beiträgen ausführlich definiert, in anderen dagegen eher als gesetzt verwendet. In diesem Sinne wäre auch ein Index interessant, um beispielsweise Konzepte wie Orientalismus oder Eurozentrismus in ihrer jeweiligen Anwendung bei den verschiedenen Autor*innen nachschlagen zu können. Im Hinblick auf den Untertitel A Critical Encounter bleibt vor allem nach Lektüre der Einleitung die Frage offen, worin konkret der kritische Aspekt des Aufeinandertreffens von Postkolonialen Studien und Medienwissenschaften besteht. Gerade in dem kritischen Element liegt meiner Meinung nach jedoch der besondere Wert dieses Sammelbandes. So beinhaltet er einerseits kritische Hinterfragungen medienwissenschaftlicher Ansätze, Postkolonialer Studien und deren Gegenstände. Andererseits formulieren diverse Autor*innen sozial- und wissenschaftspolitische Ansprüche an Medienpraktiken und deren Erforschung. Zusammenfassend macht Postcolonial Studies Meets Media Studies. A Critical Encounter durch diese kritische Beschäftigung mit multiplen Perspektiven und Gegenständen auf die zahlreichen Interaktionspotentiale von Postkolonialen Studien und Medienwissenschaften aufmerksam und inspiriert dazu, diese Bereiche auch weiterhin in Dialog miteinander zu bringen. Following the new historiographical path focused on the urban dimension of the armed struggle, this research analyses the milieus and the forms of the political extremism in Rome after '68. By an interdisciplinary approach – which integrates the contribution of philosophy, of urban studies, of sociology, of urban geography, of political sciences – this study rebuilt the relation between urban territory and the implementation of a subversive violence, often lethal and terrorist, in the context of the national modernization activated by the "economic boom" (1958-1963) and of the "cold war" dynamics. A special attention is payed to the apprehension of the ideological and cultural evolutions - grown inside the "urban crisis" which affects the critical development of Rome in the post-war period – that transformed the biggest Italian metropolis in a perfect ecosystem for this extreme conflict, far beyond the only effects of the geopolitical (European crisis of the Atlanticism) and socio-economic factors (explosion of the social struggles claiming the fruition of goods and services created by for consumerist modernity). This study went back to the basic divisions of the structure, the society and the environment of Rome: the fundamental cleavages, appeared at the beginning of the republican time (1946), over which, after the "economic boom", a process of radicalization (due to the growing of the social struggles in the fields of the local community, work, school and the University, generated by a brutal and unbalanced modernization of the town) is established. Our research, so showed that the various "experiments of antagonism" matured within this vast social protest, were used finally as incubators where part of the roman extremist militancy, resulting from the end of '68 mobilization, was initiated with various subversive practices (in particular, the repertoires of the mass illegality and of the clandestine guerrilla). Considering of all these levels and these dimensions highlighted the characteristics of the political violence deployed in Rome after '68, while allotting the right proportion to the "weight" of the capital of Italy in the national deployment of the "strategy of the tension" (1969-1974) and the "years of lead" (1975-1982). This research thus strives to reconstruct a comprehensive historical framework, putting of diachronic connection the facts and the dynamic of the metropolis (social economic, cultural, ideological, political and urban factors) with the State system based in Rome – characterized by the pressures of the "iron curtain", the heavy after-effects of the fascist dictatorship and the civil war (1943-1945), the governmental frailty and the lack of national cohesion – along the years of modernization and of the entry in the age of abundance for Italy. ; En s'inscrivant dans le récent sillage historiographique consacré à la dimension métropolitaine de la conflictualité armée, cette recherche a analysé les milieux et les formes urbaines de l'extrémisme à Rome dans l'après-68. Par une approche interdisciplinaire - qui a intégré l'apport de la philosophie, de l'urbanisme, de la sociologie, de la géographie urbaine, des sciences politiques - cette étude a reconstruit la relation entre le territoire urbain et la mise en œuvre d'une violence subversive, souvent à caractère meurtrier et terroriste, dans le cadre de la modernisation nationale activée par le "boom économique" (1958-1963) et des dynamiques propres à la « guerre froide ».On a porté une attention particulière à l'appréhension des processus de transformation idéologique et culturelle, mûris au sein de la « crise urbaine » affectant le mauvais et difficile développement de Rome dans l'après-guerre, qui ont permis à la première métropole italienne de devenir l'écosystème unique et catalyseur de cette conflictualité extrême, au-delà des simples facteurs géopolitiques (crise européenne de l'idée d'atlantisme) et socio-économique (explosion des luttes sociales pour la revendication de biens et services propres à la modernité consumériste).Cette étude est remontée aux facteurs de division caractérisant la structure, le tissu et l'ambiance de Rome. Il s'agit des clivages fondamentaux, en place dès le début de l'époque républicaine (1946), sur lesquels s'implantent ensuite, au lendemain du boom économique, les processus de radicalisation qui accompagnent les multiples luttes revendicatives - dans les domaines du quartier, du travail, des écoles et de l'Université - engendrées par une modernisation de la capitale brutale et déséquilibrée. Notre recherche a, de ce fait, démontré que les différentes « expériences d'antagonisme » muries au sein de cette vaste contestation sociale, ont servi finalement d'incubateurs où une partie de la militance extraparlementaire romaine, issue de la mobilisation soixante-huitarde, s'est initiée à différentes pratiques subversives (notamment les répertoires de l'illégalité de masse et de la guérilla clandestine).La prise en compte de tous ces niveaux et ces dimensions a fait ressortir les particularités de la violence politique déployée à Rome dans l'après-68, tout en attribuant la juste proportion au « poids » de la capitale d'Italie dans le déploiement à l'échelle nationale de la « stratégie de la tension » (1969-1974) et des « années de plomb » (1975-1982).Cette recherche s'est donc engagée dans la reconstruction d'un cadre historique global, mettant en connexion diachronique les faits et les dynamiques internes à la ville (d'ordre social, économique, culturel, idéologique, politique et urbanistique) avec le système étatique centré à Rome – marqué par les pressions du « rideau de fer », les lourdes séquelles de la dictature fasciste et de la guerre civile, la fragilité gouvernementale et le manque de cohésion nationale – le long des années de la modernisation et de l'entrée dans la société d'abondance en Italie.

Der 2016 erschienene Sammelband Beseelte Dinge. Design aus Perspektive des Animismus dokumentiert das gleichnamige Symposium am Fachbereich Design der Hochschule Niederrhein vom 10. Juli 2015. Dieser interdisziplinär ausgerichtete, schwerpunktmäßig design-orientierte Band umfasst Beiträge von Designer_innen sowie Kultur- und Designwissenschaftler_innen, die sich mit Phänomenen, Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten, Reflexionspotenzialen und Herausforderungen dinglicher 'Beseeltheit' auseinandersetzen. Dass animistische Vorstellungen einer beseelten Dingwelt mitnichten irrationale Phantastereien darstellen, da sie selbst den hochtechnologischen Geräten von heute eingeschrieben sind, skizziert Judith Dörrenbächer in ihrer reich annotierten Einführung. Gerade nämlich die durch solche Geräte ermöglichten Immersions- und Interaktionserfahrungen lassen die vermeintlich kategorialen Differenzen beseelt/unbeseelt oder Mensch/Ding diffus werden. Vor diesem Hintergrund und von der Annahme einer "formative[n]", ihre Gebrauchsweisen bestimmenden "Macht" (S. 16) der Dinge ausgehend, setzen sich die Designforschung und -wissenschaft mit der Gestaltbarkeit und Handlungsfähigkeit interaktiver Objekte auseinander. Mit eben den Problemen und Potenzialen dieser Gestaltbarkeit und Handlungsfähigkeit befassen sich auch die Einzelbeiträge dieses Bandes, für die Dörrenbächer je prägnante Abstracts bereitstellt. Dass es dem dualistischen Weltbild, das die Unterscheidbarkeit von Mensch und Ding postuliert und allein ersterem Handlungsfähigkeit zuspricht, an Konsistenz mangelt, argumentiert Hartmut Böhme zu Beginn seines mit rhetorischer Verve verfassten Beitrags Agency, Performativität und Magie der Dinge philosophie- und kulturhistorisch. Sein Interesse gilt dem Aspekt der Agency der Dinge, für die er den Begriff der Magie (im Sinne von Eigenaktivität) ins Feld führt. Die Schattenseiten dinghafter Agency sieht Böhme zumindest in "ästhetischer Evidenz" (S. 28) in Émile Zolas Roman Au Bonheur des Dames, Franz Kafkas Tagebuch-Schrift Konvolut 1920 und Herbert J. Wimmers Buch Nervenlauf. Die Tücke der Objekte verschiedenartig bezeugt. Als positive Verkörperung dinghafter Magie in konkreter Evidenz hingegen betrachtet er das Automobil, das, weit über seine eigentliche Funktion hinaus, eine "komplexe soziokulturelle Figuration" (S. 45) von Sehnsüchten und Aneignungen innerhalb unserer performativen Konsumgesellschaft darstellt. Vom Automobil abstrahierend plädiert Böhme emphatisch für die Untrennbarkeit und Gleichwertigkeit der Funktionen und Bedeutungen von Dingen. Andreas Muxel reflektiert in Der Aufstand der Dinge über die Widerständigkeit des Materials und deren Potenzial für die Designforschung. Sein Fokus richtet sich zunächst auf die Gestaltbarkeit der Wechselwirkungen zwischen dem programmierbaren Verhalten und der stofflichen Erscheinung technischer Geräte. Hierzu stellt er "hybride Dinge" (S. 57) aus der Designforschung vor – u.a. reaktive Metallfolien und programmierbare Textilien –, die diese Wechselwirkungen in Form von Bewegung sichtbar machen. Über die Gestaltung solcher Artefakte hinaus interessiert Muxel aber auch das Design ganzer Handlungsnetzwerke zwischen Dingen und ihrer Umwelt, für welches er Agustina Andreolettis "künstliches Ökosystem" (S. 66) Ultima Materia exemplarisch anführt. Muxels interaktionsgestalterischer Ansatz, der eine "'Co-Kreation' mit den Dingen" (S. 68) vorsieht, gründet dabei auf der Maxime, dass hybride Dinge bzw. Handlungsnetzwerke nicht aus einem rationalistischen Anspruch auf Beherrschbarkeit des Materials heraus zu entwickeln sind, da erst in der experimentellen Entdeckung der Widerständigkeit des Materials Potenziale für dessen Gestaltung sichtbar werden. In ihrem theoretisch fundierten Aufsatz Design zwischen Anthropomorphismus und Animismus. Mimesis als relationale Designpraxis befragt Judith Dörrenbächer "das wachsende Interesse" von Designprojekten "an experimentellen Formen der Subjektivierung von Nicht-Menschen auf Ursachen, Potenziale und Grenzen" (S. 72) hin. Die Ursache liegt ihr zufolge in einer Paradoxie westlicher Epistemologie begründet. Während nämlich der Objektivitätsanspruch der modernen Wissenschaft die Trennung von Subjekt und Objekt voraussetzt, bringt der durch sie ermöglichte technologische Fortschritt Dinge hervor, die diese Trennung unterwandern. Auf alternative subjekt- und erkenntnistheoretische Positionen, mithilfe derer diese Paradoxie umgangen werden könnte, macht die jüngere ethnologische Forschung unter dem Begriff des 'Neuen Animismus'aufmerksam: Als eine, verschiedenen Kulturen gemeinsame, Praxis stellt dabei die Mimesis als kontrollierte, differenzfokussierende, empathische Einfühlungstechnik dar. Dörrenbächer veranschaulicht anhand dreier Fallbeispiele aus dem Bereich Design, wie diese kulturelle Praxis einerseits angewendet wird, um auf performative Weise die Interdependenz zwischen Menschen und Dingen auf ihre moralischen, politischen und ökologischen Implikationen hin zu befragen, und wo die Anwendung dieser Praxis andererseits die Grenzen einer unumgänglich anthropozentrischen Perspektive aufzeigt. Ihren anspruchsvollen Aufsatz Immanente Relationen. Von der Handlungsmacht der Dinge zur nicht-repräsentionalistischen Kunst und relationalem Design leitet Susanne Witzgall mit einer Problematisierung netzwerktheoretischer Ansätze ein, die jeweils entweder Dinge oder Netzwerke als ontogenetisch vorgängig betrachten. Diesen Ansätzen stellt sie zwei sich in ihren Grundgedanken ähnelnde Modelle entgegen: Das des Philosophen Brian Massumi, demzufolge Dinge und Netzwerke gleichermaßen als Effekte seins-immanenter Relationen zu verstehen sind, und das der Physikerin Karen Barad, demzufolge jegliche Phänomene sich erst in dynamischer "Intraaktion" untereinander als solche konstituieren. Ausgehend hiervon betrachtet Witzgall Relationen bzw. "Intraaktionen" als "Voraussetzung und Ursprungsort [.] der 'Handlungsmacht' der Dinge und Menschen" (S. 103), wobei sie Handlungsmacht als Attribut mit Abstufungen betrachtet, je nach Grad der in der jeweiligen Handlung zum Ausdruck kommenden Intentionalität. Nach den gesellschaftspolitischen Konsequenzen und ethischen Bedingungen einer solcherart konzipierten relational-intentionalen Handlungsmacht fragend, schlägt die Autorin mit Bezug auf Rosi Braidotti vor, diese könnten im "offene[n] Experiment der [.] Verschränkungen von Menschlichem und Nichtmenschlichen" (S. 106) erprobt werden. Als paradigmatisches offenes Experiment betrachtet Witzgall die Arbeit der zeitgenössischen Künstlerin Nora Schultz, in welcher Dinge weniger weltabbildend-repräsentionalistisch denn werkerzeugend-bedeutungsgenerierend wirken. Hiervon abstrahierend optiert Witzgall für eine "Designpraxis, die sich ihrer direkten materiellen Involvierungen mit der Welt bewusst ist und ihre 'Intraaktionen' mit einer Vielzahl menschlicher und nichtmenschlicher Akteur_innen offenlegt" (S. 114), statt ihre Erzeugnisse als "funktionale und kulturelle Symbolträger" (S. 114) zu behandeln. In ihrem weniger theoretischen, dafür umso plastischer geschriebenen Essay Acting Things. Oder kann die Gestaltungsdisziplin von den performativen Künsten lernen? gibt die Designerin Judith Seng Auskunft über ihr eigenes künstlerisches Schaffen, das sich mit Fragen nach "neuen Formaten, Werkzeugen und Methoden der Gestaltung" befasst, "die in der Lage sind, materielle und immaterielle Akteure zu integrieren und in ihrem Zusammenspiel sichtbar und erfahrbar zu machen" (S. 119). Seng stellt fünf innerhalb der Projektserie Acting Things entstandene Produktionen vor, in denen das jeweils zu verarbeitende Material (wie etwa Holzleisten oder Wachs) "Handlungen in Form von Performances hervorruft, die wiederum das Material in Form bringen" (S. 119). In Beantwortung der im Titel ihres Beitrags gestellten Frage schlägt Seng vor, den theatralen Modus des So-Tuns-als-ob bei der "Gestaltung komplexer Interaktionen von Menschen, Objekten, Räumen und immateriellen Aspekten" (S. 133) anzuwenden. Solcherart Interaktionen oder "dynamische Prototypen" (S. 134) könnten dann, als "Neuinterpretation des Rituals" (S. 134) verstanden, Erfahrungsräume öffnen, in denen "kollektive Werte kontinuierlich aktualisiert" und "Praktiken und Formen gemeinsam neu verhandelt" (S. 134) würden. Gewissermaßen eine Sonderstellung innerhalb des Bandes nimmt der Aufsatz Beseelte Gegenstände oder intentionale Systeme? Ein Beitrag zur Handlungsfähigkeit der Dinge von Georg Kneer ein, der begründete Zweifel an der vermeintlichen Universalität des dualistischen Verständnisses der Moderne äußert (welches in den übrigen Beiträgen weitestgehend als gegeben vorausgesetzt wird). Konkret führt er drei Argumente gegen die Modernitätskritik nach Bruno Latour ins Feld: Erstens sei sie reduktionistisch, da sie die "Vielzahl an Theoriesprachen, Semantiken und Beobachtungsperspektiven" (S. 138) der Moderne negiere zugunsten einer "Einheitsfiktion" (S. 138) derselben als dualistisch strukturiertes Weltbild. Zweitens begehe sie einen "intellektualistischen Fehlschluss" (S. 139), da sie die Bedeutung der cartesianischen Trennung von Subjekt und Objekt für die "Anfertigung moderner Selbstbeschreibungen" (S. 139) überschätze. Und drittens unterlaufe ihr ein "fundamentalistische[r] Fehlschluss" (S. 140), weil sie "der philosophischen Frage nach der ontologischen Einteilung der Welt Vorrang vor allen anderen Fragen" (S. 140) einräume. Als Beispiel für ein weithin ignoriertes nicht-dualistisches Weltverständnis führt Kneer den Philosophischen Naturalismus an, demzufolge die Welt von "vielfachen Abstufungen, graduellen Übergängen und evolutionären Prozessen" (S. 141) durchzogen ist. Abschließend stellt Kneer ein überzeugendes alternatives Handlungsmodell vor, "das nicht allein Menschen als Handlungsakteure begreift, also nicht den Denkzwängen des Dualismus folgt, sich aber umgekehrt auch nicht in den Fallstricken des Animismus verfängt: das Modell der Handlungsfähigkeit intentionaler Systeme" (S. 137). Abgeschlossen wird diese Sammlung lesenswerter und differenzierter Beiträge – deren gemeinsamer (wenn auch nicht von den Herausgeberinnen als solcher diskutierter) Tenor das Interesse an performativen Strategien animistischen Designs zu sein scheint – mit einer als Autopsie der Dinge betitelten Bilddokumentation studentischer Arbeiten, die im Rahmen eines im Juni 2015 am Fachbereich Design der Hochschule Niederrhein gehaltenen Workshops entstanden sind.

According to the Italian historiography, from Alessandro Manzoni (1822) to the two major Italian historians who studied the Lombards at the middle of the twentieth century, Gian Piero Bognetti and Ottorino Bertolini, the Lombards remained always separated from the Roman population, of which the pope was the natural leader; the Lombards, too, became very late Catholics, in time, though, to experience the "drama" of having to fight against the pope, whose supreme spiritual authority the Lombards themselves at that point recognized. Consequently, the fall of the independent kingdom by the hands of the Franks would be logical and inevitable. This is an old and outdated position: the end of the independent Lombard kingdom wasn't inevitable. At the time of the Frankish conquest, the kingdom was politically solid inward, in economic growth and very dynamic outward. During the reigns of Liutprand, Ratchis and Aistulf (712-757), the kingdom exercised its hegemony over the whole Italy. In this period no strong elements of internal weakness emerged. Therefore, the defeat of 774 was substantially caused by external factors, ie the alliance between the Franks and the papacy. However, the attitude of the popes against the Lombard kingdom was not always hostile. Things changed only with Stephen II, because of two simultaneous events occurring in 751: the royal anointing of Pepin in the Frankish kingdom and the conquest of the Exarchate by Aistulf. Italian political balance broke and caused the decisive rapprochement between Rome and the Franks. But there were still many uncertainties, as proved, for example, by Charlemagne's marriage with a daughter of Desiderius. Carloman's death in 771 and, the following year, the election of the new pope Adrian I caused the repudiation of the Lombard bride by Charlemagne, his descent into Italy in 773, and the capture of Pavia the year after: Desiderius was exiled in France and Charlemagne became rex Langobardorum. The very rapid epilogue of the story of the kingdom, however, depended on contingent factors: to the last, the story could take a different direction. Rather different was the situation on the military front. In fact the Lombard army was not quite able to compete with the Frankish one, accustomed to the seasonal war and to the looting along the borders of the kingdom. This fact alone explains the rapid defeat of the Lombard at the Clusae against the Franks. The structures of the Lombard kingdom were not at all upset by the Frankish conquest. Already around 780, the Italian capitularia mention the Lombards counts alongside the Frankish ones; in the same period the Lombards fit into the vassals' files. All this indicates a transition without any major shocks from the old system, previous to the 774, to the next Frankish rule. ; Secondo la storiografia italiana, da Alessandro Manzoni (1822) ai due maggiori storici italiani che si sono occupati dei longobardi alla metà circa del XX secolo, Gian Piero Bognetti e Ottorino Bertolini, i longobardi rimasero sempre separati dalla popolazione romana, di cui il papa era il capo naturale; inoltre i longobardi diventarono cattolici molto tardi, in tempo però per vivere il "dramma" di dover combattere contro il papa, la cui altissima autorità spirituale i Longobardi stessi ormai riconoscevano. Di conseguenza la fine del regno indipendente per mano dei franchi sarebbe stata logica e inevitabile. Si tratta però di una posizione ormai superata. Non c'era niente di inevitabile nella fine del regno longobardo che, al momento della conquista franca, era una realtà salda al suo interno, in crescita economica e dinamica verso l'esterno. Sotto Liutprando e i suoi successori Ratchis e Astolfo, tra il 712 e il 757, il regno esercitò la sua egemonia su tutta l'Italia. In questo periodo non emerse alcun elemento di debolezza interna. La sconfitta del 774 dunque fu causata da fattori esterni, ossia dall'alleanza franco-papale. Tuttavia l'atteggiamento dei papi nei confronti del regno longobardo non fu sempre ostile. Fu solo con Stefano II che le cose cambiarono, a causa di due fatti contemporanei avvenuti nel 751: l'unzione regia di Pipino nel regno franco e la conquista dell'Esarcato da parte di Astolfo. Gli equilibri politici italiani saltarono e provocarono l'avvicinamento definitivo tra Roma e i franchi. Ci furono però ancora molte incertezze, provate ad esempio dal matrimonio di Carlo con una figlia di Desiderio. La morte di Carlomanno nel 771 e l'elezione l'anno dopo del papa Adriano I portarono al ripudio della sposa longobarda da parte di Carlo, alla sua discesa in Italia nel 773 e alla presa di Pavia l'anno dopo: Desiderio finì in Francia e Carlo divenne rex Langobardorum. Il rapidissimo epilogo della vicenda del regno dipese però da fattori contingenti: fino all'ultimo, la storia poteva prendere una direzione diversa. Diversa invece era la situazione sul fronte militare. Infatti l'esercito longobardo non era assolutamente in grado di fronteggiare quello franco, abituato alla guerra stagionale e al saccheggio lungo i confini del regno. Questo fatto, da solo, spiega la rapida sconfitta dell'esercito longobardo alle Chiuse davanti ai franchi. Dopo la conquista franca non cambiò molto. Le strutture del regno non furono affatto sconvolte dalla conquista franca. I capitolari nominano dei conti longobardi accanto a quelli franchi già intorno al 780; nello stesso periodo anche gli stessi longobardi si inseriscono nelle file dei vassalli. Tutto ciò indica una transizione senza grandi scosse tra il regime precedente al 774 e quello successivo.

Im Rahmen des 14. goEast-Festivals für mittel- und osteuropäischen Film des Jahres 2014, das jährlich vom Deutschen Filminstitut (DIF e.V.) in Wiesbaden veranstaltet wird, fand das von Margarete Wach kuratierte filmhistorische Symposium ''Nouvelle Vague Polonaise? Auf der Suche nach einem flüchtigen Phänomen der Filmgeschichte'' statt. Aus diesem deutsch-polnischen Projekt resultiert das vorliegende Buch. Margarete Wach beschäftigt sich vorwiegend mit der polnischen Filmgeschichte; ihr sind umfangreiche Veröffentlichungen zu diesem Thema, das bisher in der deutschsprachigen Fachliteratur rar gestreut ist, sowohl als Autorin wie auch als Herausgeberin zu verdanken. Beispielhaft zu erwähnen sind dabei ihre MonographieKrzysztof Kieślowski(2014, 2.Auflage) und das von ihr mit herausgegebene WerkDer Polnische Film. Von seinen Anfängen bis zur Gegenwart(2012). Eine immer wiederkehrende Frage lautet, ob bei den neuen Strömungen im osteuropäischen Nachkriegskino von 'Neuen Wellen' gesprochen werden kann – vor allem in Bezug auf die diversen Strömungen im polnischen Film. Lutz Haucke fragte dies im Titel seines WerksNouvelle Vague in Osteuropa?(2010) und Andrzej Gwóźdź stellte – im von Wach mit herausgegebenenDer Polnische Film– mit seinem Beitrag ''Über eine neue Welle, die es vielleicht gar nie gab'' diese Thematik zur Debatte. Nun wird auch hier die Frage aufgeworfen:Nouvelle Vague Polonaise? Es bedarf einer kurzen Erklärung: Man spricht in der polnischen Filmgeschichtsschreibung von drei großen Strömungen zwischen dem Beginn der Tauwetterperiode (1954) und der Verhängung des Kriegsrechts als Antwort auf die Forderungen und Aktionen der Gewerkschaft Solidarność (1981). Die erste Strömung ist bekannt unter der Bezeichnung 'Polnische Schule', welche von 1954 bis 1960 datiert ist und zu deren bekanntesten Filmautoren u.a. Andrzej Wajda und Andrzej Munk gezählt werden. Für jene Filme der zweiten Strömung, die bis 1975 entstanden, sind drei Begriffe ohne präzise Abgrenzungskriterien parallel im Umlauf: 'Neue Welle', 'Drittes Polnisches Kino' und 'Kino der Jungen Kultur'. Die am häufigsten verwendete Bezeichnung ist jene der 'Neuen Welle', datiert auf die frühen sechziger Jahre, die vor allem die Werke der beiden Regisseure Jerzy Skolimowski und Roman Polański meint. Nachdem Polański 1963 Polen verließ und Skolimowski 1967 seinen letzten Film in Polen drehte (bevor auch er 1970 ging), fanden die beiden anderen Begriffe Anwendung. Die dritte Strömung (1975 bis 1981) kennt man unter der Bezeichnung 'Kino der moralischen Unruhe'; sie beinhaltet u.a. die frühen Spielfilme von Krzysztof Kieślowski. Während sich alle in diesem Band vertretenen WissenschaftlerInnen darüber einig sind, dass es sich bei den Filmen des Beginns der sechziger Jahreum eine 'Neue Welle' handelte, gilt die titelgebende Frage vor allem der Diskussion, ob man bei der 'Polnischen Schule', den Werken des 'Dritten Polnischen Kinos' bzw. des 'Kinos der Jungen Kultur' sowie des 'Kinos der moralischen Unruhe' von 'Neuen Wellen' sprechen kann. Der vorliegende Band enthält 15 Beiträge, in denen es um diese Begriffsklärung geht, die sich aber auch mit der ost-westlichen Kontextualisierung und dem transnationalen Vergleich der 'Polnischen Neuen Welle(n)' mit zeitnahen anderen neuen Strömungen auseinandersetzen. In den ersten drei Texten wird der titelgebenden Frage intensiv nachgegangen. Den Anfang macht Herausgeberin Wach. Ihre Antwort ist allerdings schon aus ihrem Vorwort herauszulesen: ''Auf der Agenda des vorliegenden Bandes stehen die Begriffsklärung, […] und die (Neu-)Bewertung des Phänomens der polnischen 'Neuen Welle', wovon es mindestens zwei gab, bzw. die mindestens in zwei, wenn nicht sogar drei Etappen verlief'' (S.7). Interessant scheint, dass sich die beiden polnischen Wissenschaftler – Tadeusz Lubelski und Andrzej Gwóźdź – entgegen ihrer deutschen Kollegin einer Benennung dieser Bewegungen als 'Neue Welle' verwehren. Es wird immer wieder darauf hingewiesen, dass es keine genaue Definition der Begrifflichkeit 'Neue Welle' gibt, bzw. dass jene nur vage zu fassen sei. Deshalb liegt der Vergleich mit der französischen Nouvelle Vague nahe, die immer wieder als Maßstab herangezogen wird. Beispiele für die angewandten Kriterien sind die Auffassung vom Regisseur als Autor (politique des auteurs), genauso wie eine innovative (Film-)Sprache als Gegensatz zum klassischen Kino. Ein gewisser Widerstand gegen das politische Establishment, popkulturelle Posen und Chiffren des Aufbruchs werden auch dazu gezählt. Die Filme sind gegenwartsbezogen, die Hauptfiguren sind junge Menschen und es werden ihre alltäglichen Probleme behandelt. Spannend erscheinen diese Diskussionen über den Begriff 'Neue Welle' auch im Zusammenhang mit anderen osteuropäischen Strömungen jener Zeit. Bei der 'Tschechoslowakischen Neuen Welle' spielen diese Kategorien beispielsweise eine äußerst geringe Rolle. Für Lubelski handelt es sich bei den Filmen der 'Polnischen Schule' noch nicht um einen Neue-Welle-Umbruch, denn diese erzählten nach wie vor klassische Geschichten: ''Die Filme der Polnischen Schule brachen mit dem Kino des verlogenen Papas und boten dafür ein Kino des ernsten Gesprächs mit dem Geist des verlorenen Vaters'' (S.37). Für den Verfasser sind es einzelne Werke bestimmter Filmautoren aus allen drei Strömungen (Tadeusz Konwicki, Jerzy Skolimowski und Krzysztof Zanussi), die den beschriebenen Kriterien einer 'Neuen Welle' entsprechen. Gwóźdź bejaht die Einordnung als 'Neue Welle' dann, wenn man diese als ein langlebiges, periodisch wiederkehrendes Muster definiert, das mit wechselnden Merkmalen von Mitte der sechziger bis Anfang der siebziger Jahre vor allem im Umkreis eines Nachwuchskinos zu beobachten ist. Nach einer gewissen Zeit sei eine 'Neue Welle' nicht mehr 'neu' und verliere ihre Wellenkraft. Alles, was nachher kam (bis 1981), sieht Gwóźdź nicht als eigenständige 'Neue Welle', sondern als Erbe der vorangegangenen. Wie sich nach diesen drei Beiträgen herausstellt, behandelt dieser beeindruckend umfangreiche Band nicht nur die titelgebende Frage, sondern geht weit darüber hinaus. Neben filmästhetischen Fragestellungen werden in einem Großteil der Beiträge das aufkommende Konsumverhalten und dessen Folgen im damaligen Polen thematisiert. Aus der historischen Perspektive der 'Global Sixties' (die wichtige politische, gesellschaftliche, intellektuelle und technologische Veränderungen bezeichnen, die sich seit Mitte der fünfziger Jahre und in den darauffolgenden zwanzig Jahren ereigneten) betrachtet die Soziologin Małgorzata Fidelis den gesellschaftlichen bzw. soziokulturellen Hintergrund für die Herausbildung der 'Polnischen Neuen Welle' zu Beginn der sechziger Jahre. Vor allem die Begehren und Wünsche der polnischen Jugend seien durchaus vergleichbar mit denen westlicher Jugendlicher. Auf filmanalytischer Ebene wird diese Thematik anhand von Polańskis LangfilmdebütDas Messer im Wasser(1962) untersucht, da in diesem offen das Konsumverhalten dargestellt wird: Eine der Hauptfiguren ist Yachtbesitzer, westliche Autos werden mit Markennamen genannt und Elżbieta Ostrowska macht in ihrem Beitrag darauf aufmerksam, dass eine der männlichen Figuren sich mehr um einen ausgerissenen Hemdknopf sorgt, als um das titelgebende Messer, das ins Wasser fällt, welches er aber zu seiner Verteidigung braucht. Ostrowska veranschaulicht durch ihre Analyse die aufkommende Veränderung des Männlichkeitsbildes durch das Konsumverhalten. Der Brite David Crowley geht in seinem Beitrag über die polnischen Grenzen hinaus und beschäftigt sich mit der Verwendung von Werbeästhetik im Film. Dabei analysiert erPravda(BRD, FR 1970) von Jean-Luc Godards Dziga-Vertov-Gruppe (der in Prag produziert wurde) sowie neben polnischen Beispielen auch Filme der Tschechin Věra Chytilová und des Jugoslawen Dušan Makavejev. Die 'Neue Welle'-Thematik taucht auch bei dem auf Psychoanalyse spezialisierten Kuba Mikurda auf: Er beschäftigt sich "mit einer 'gewissen Tendenz im polnischen Kino' […], die sich in den Filmen Jerzy Skolimowski, Andrzej Żuławskis und Grzegorz Królikiewiczs offenbart und die ich [Mikurda] am liebsten als eine 'Nach-Neue-Welle-Tendenz' bezeichnen würde, denn sie radikalisierte und entwickelte Elemente weiter, die mit Filmen der Neuen Welle in Verbindung gebracht werden'' (S.186). Er untersucht ausgewählte Werke der drei Regisseure anhand der Theorien Jacques Lacans. Unter der Überschrift ''Bilder des Grausamen'' überträgt Marcus Stiglegger in seinem Beitrag Antonin Artauds 'Theater der Grausamkeit' auf das Medium Film. Er analysiert Beispiele von Żuławski und Królikiewicz in Hinblick auf deren radikales Spiel mit den Inszenierungskonventionen. Über im deutschen Sprachraum kaum bekannte Komödien der frühen siebziger Jahre, die in Polen Kultfilme sind, schreibt Iwona Kurz. Auch dieser Text befasst sich mit der Thematik des Konsumverhaltens und legt dessen Einfluss auf die Umgangssprache dar. Mit dem Essayfilm als Gattung der 'Neuen Wellen' befasst sich Margarete Wach anhand von Beispielen von Alexander Kluge, Krzysztof Zanussi und Dušan Makavejev. Sie arbeitet dabei die Komponenten und Techniken heraus, welche diese Filmgattung zum Teil der jeweiligen Strömung machen. Den Abschluss dieses beeindruckend informativen Werkes macht der Komponist Matthias Hornschuh mit einem sehr persönlichen und subjektiven Portrait von Krzysztof Komeda, der die stilbildenden jazzigen Soundtracks zu Filmen von Wajda, Polański, Skolimowski und anderen komponierte. Zu erwähnen ist auch das umfangreiche Bildmaterial, das dieses Buch enthält. Die auf beinahe jeder Seite vorhandenen Bilder verfolgen keinen Selbstzweck: Die Film-Stills innerhalb der Beiträge unterstützen die Analysen und die Abbildungen in den soziokulturellen Beiträgen veranschaulichen zusätzliche Facetten der polnischen Gesellschaft von damals. Zusätzlich gibt es zwei zehnseitige Bilderstrecken, die mit seltenen Filmplakaten und Werbefotos, Film-Stills und Plattencovern aus der besprochenen Epoche beeindrucken und einen noch umfangreicheren Einblick gewähren.Nouvelle Vague Polonaise?ist ein enorm bereicherndes Buch über ein Teilgebiet des osteuropäischen Kinos, das aufgrund der darin angewandten interdisziplinären Ansätze nicht nur für Filmwissenschaftler mit interessanten Zugängen und Neuigkeiten aufwartet.

The aim of this thesis is to show how Europe is constructed at the intersection between archaeology, money and politics within EU cultural actions. Ever since the 1970s, the European Community has invested money and prestige in the idea of a common cultural heritage for Europe. Alongside symbolic attributes such as the flag and anthem, archaeological sites have been used as rhetorical fuel to create a sense of European belonging, much like in national identity building. As a result, archaeologists and heritage professionals have benefitted from EU funding for restoration of sites, training schools and cooperation projects since 1976. In order to address this mutual engagement, the research in this thesis explores the ways that EU grant systems in culture have fostered specific approaches to Europeanness, and how supported projects have responded to notions about a common heritage. By considering EU officials, expert reviewers, consultants and archaeologists as co-creators of the frameworks they participate in, this study raises the idea of financial ties as a place of interaction. The study takes an ethnographic approach and uses discourse analysis and tools from Actor-Network Theory. The material consists of observations made during an internship at the European Commission, 41 interviews with different actors, as well as policy documents, budgets and collected information about 160 supported projects with archaeological themes. This research demonstrates how the expectations linked to archaeology have turned it into both a problem and a promise in the search for a 'usable past' for the EU. On the one hand, archaeology has functioned as an anchor, mooring the notion of a common heritage to something solid. On the other, because of its strong commitment to nationhood, what archaeology claims for its own has often undermined the very idea of a shared European inheritance. Projects benefitting from EU support have taken advantage of the expectations placed upon archaeology to help create a European identity, using buzzwords and 'application poetry' in their proposals. Many projects continuously used EU goals and symbols in their outputs. Sometimes a European past and present was connected by rhetorically tying archaeological periods (such as the Middle Ages and Roman Era) and phenomena (rock art or landscapes) to the EU political project. This link was more manifest in public settings than in academic ones. Taken together, the considerations brought up in this study show that funding matters. The EU strategy of vagueness, in which instructions and evaluation criteria foremost decide the frames but not the content of the projects, has inspired applicants to 'think Europe without thinking.' Once an application is written and submitted, a chain of translations by different actors works to depoliticise the act of constructing Europe. The EU, just as other funding bodies, has become entangled in the political ecology of archaeology. An entanglement which is unavoidable, but which needs to be critically addressed. Funding sources matter for the way we understand both the past and the meaning of archaeology in the present. ; Denna avhandling undersöker hur Europa skapas i gränslandet mellan arkeologi, pengar och politik inom den Europeiska Unionens kulturpolitiska finansieringsprogram. Vid sidan av symboliska attribut såsom flagga och nationalsång har företrädare för den Europeiska Gemenskapen och EU engagerat sig i idén om ett gemensamt europeiskt kulturarv, på ett metaforiskt såväl som ett materiellt plan. Politisk legitimitet har sökts med hänvisning till en mångtusenårig samhörighet. I samband med detta engagemang har arkeologer och kulturarvsarbetare sedan 1970-talet erhållit finansiellt stöd för restaureringsprojekt på platser av europeisk betydelse och transnationella samarbetsprojekt som kan skapa europeiskt mervärde. Studien undersöker banden mellan EU och arkeologi genom att lyfta finansiering som en plats för interaktion och meningsskapande. En etnografisk metod har tillämpats, där empirin består av fältobservationer från en praktikantperiod på Europeiska kommissionen, 41 intervjuer med olika aktörer, samt policydokument och arkeologiska texter. En databas med 160 arkeologiska projekt har även skapats. Diskursanalys och nätverksteoretiska begrepp såsom översättningar och svarta lådan har använts för att lokalisera och begreppsliggöra iakttagelser och meningsfulla skärningspunkter i materialet. Studien visar hur EU-tjänstemän, expertgranskare, konsulter och arkeologer alla deltar i utformandet av arkeologiska problemställningar och byggandet av professionella nätverk. EUs mjuka strategier, inom vilka instruktioner och utvärderingskriterier främst bestämmer ramarna men inte innehållet i de finansierade projekten, har inspirerat sökande att tänka Europa utan att tänka. När en ansökan skrivs och lämnas in startar en kedja av översättningar som leder till att olika aktörer avpolitiserar skapandet av Europa i samtiden. I resultaten framkom att arkeologiska projekt, genom att använda EUs målformuleringar i sina projektansökningar, ofta har utnyttjat EUs förväntningar på arkeologi om att skapa en europeisk identitet. I flera projekt knöts en europeisk samhörighet i det förflutna samman med dagens EUropa. Dessutom fortsatte många projekt att använda EUs mål och symboler i sina outputs. Här var EU-kopplingen tydligare i publika sammanhang än i akademiska. Sammantaget visar studien att val av finansieringskälla spelar stor roll. EUs finansieringsprogram har blivit en del av arkeologins politiska ekologi, en sammanflätning som är oundviklig men viktig att kritiskt uppmärksamma. Dessa band påverkar både vår syn på det förflutna och samhällets syn på arkeologi idag.

The aim of this thesis is to present an analysis of three novels by Late Victorian male novelists – Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles (1891), George Meredith's Diana of the Crossways (1885), and George Gissing's The Odd Women (1893) – in order to reveal the New Woman images within the framework of feminist literary theory. These three novels represent the New Woman images the development of which was particularly viewed in the 1880s and early 1890s in Late Victorian fiction. Since the Victorian Period produces the Woman Question and typifies woman as the "angel in the house," the New Woman images in Late Victorian fiction represent challenges against classifications, descriptions and stereotypes in fiction. Described as Novissima, anomalous, wild, socially ill and odd, the New Woman transgresses the boundaries drawn around her by patriarchy which prevail Victorian life and literature. In these three novels, the main female characters challenge the status quo and its patriarchal qualities and subvert the norms of clichés in order to realise their selves. Even though written by male authors in the Late Victorian Period, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Diana of the Crossways and The Odd Women impersonate diverse images of the New Woman who is able to change and even to eradicate the Victorian realities constructed by paternalistic structures. This study is motivated by three fundamental questions in order to examine the New Woman images in Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Diana of the Crossways, and The Odd Women: (1) "What/Who is the New Woman in the Late Victorian Period?" (2) "How do the New Woman images challenge norms and authorities of patriarchy that impose "angel in the house" onto women" in fiction? (3) "How do these novels of male writers associate the images of the New Woman to the contexts of sexuality, morality, death, marriage, work, independence, writing and politics in order to subvert the realities of women which depend on paternalistic traditions?" In order to answer these questions, this thesis relates the concepts of sexuality, morality and death to Tess; marriage, writing and politics to Diana, and marriage, work and independence to Rhoda, Mary and Madden Sisters, and bridges the images of the New Woman in diverse contexts all of which contribute to the feminist agenda that desires to emancipate women. The theoretical premise behind the argument is feminism in that the novels and novelists handle with the Woman Question and feminist thoughts for the representations of the New Woman images. In this thesis, the results of the discussion will provide enough evidence to prove writers' feminist perspectives and to enlarge the studies and visions in the New Woman literatures as three male writers contribute to the New Woman fiction in the Late Victorian Era. ; Bu tezin amacı Geç Viktorya erkek yazarlarının üç romanında – Thomas Hardy'nin Tess of the D'Urbervilles (1891), George Meredith'in Diana of the Crossways (1885) ve George Gissing'in The Odd Women – feminist edebiyat kuramı çerçevesinde, Yeni Kadın imgelerini incelemektir. Bu üç roman Geç Viktorya dönemi kurgusunda, gelişimi özellikle 1880'lerde ve erken 1890'larda görülen Yeni Kadın imgelerini temsil etmektedir. Viktorya Dönemi "kadın sorunsalı"nı içeren tartışmaların odak noktası olduğundan ve kadını "evdeki melek" olarak tek tipleştirdiğinden, Geç Viktorya romanında ortaya çıkan Yeni Kadın imgeleri kurguda var olan sınıflandırmalara, tanımlamalara ve basmakalıplara karşı çıkışı temsil eder. Novissima, ayrıksı, vahşi, sosyal olarak hasta ve tuhaf olarak tanımlanan Yeni Kadın, Viktorya edebiyatında hüküm süren ataerki tarafından çizilmiş sınırları aşar. Bu üç romanda, ana kadın karakterler statükoya ve statükonun ataerkil değerlerine meydan okurlar ve kendilerini gerçekleştirmek için klişeleşmiş düsturların düzenini bozarak devirirler. Geç Viktorya Dönemi'nde erkek yazarlar tarafından yazılmış olmalarına rağmen, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Diana of the Crossways ve The Odd Women eserleri, kurguda ataerkil yapılar tarafından inşa edilen Viktorya değerleri ile ilgili gerçeklikleri değiştirebilen ve hatta kökünü kurutabilen çeşitli Yeni Kadın imgelerine işaret ederler. Bu çalışma Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Diana of the Crossways ve The Odd Women eserlerindeki Yeni Kadın imgelerinin irdelenmesi için üç ana sorunsala odaklanır: (1) "Geç Viktorya Dönemi'nde Yeni Kadın nedir/kimdir?" Bu soruları cevaplamak için, bu tez, cinsellik, ahlak ve ölüm olgularını Tess ile; evlilik, yazma eylemi ve politika olgularını Diana ile ve evlilik, iş ve bağımsızlık olgularını Rhoda, Mary ve Madden Kız Kardeşler ile ilişkilendirir. Sonuç olarak bu çalışma Yeni Kadın imgelerini, kadını özgürlüğüne kavuşturmayı arzulayan feminist gündeme katkıda bulunarak çeşitli bağlamlarla açıklar. Tartışmaların ardında yatan kuramsal dayanak feminizm olarak belirlenmiştir çünkü bu romanlar ve romancılar "kadın sorunsalı" ile başa çıkmaya çalışarak Yeni Kadın imgelerinin temsilleri için feminist düşüncelerle ilgilenirler. Bu tezde, tartışmanın sonuçları, yazarların feminist bakış açılarını kanıtlamak ve üç Geç Viktorya erkek yazarının Yeni Kadın kurgusuna katkılarını düşünerek Yeni Kadın edebiyatlarındaki çalışmalar ve görme biçimlerini genişletmek için yeterli derecede kanıt sağlayacaktır.
