Der Zukunftsnavigator 2022: 20 Reflexionen zum 20-jährigen Jubiläum
Verlagsinfo: Deutschland, quo vadis?

BOOK DESIGN IN UKRAINE IN THE LATE 20th CENTURY
In Ukraine, the breakthrough of the 1980s and 1990s was characterized by book design development as a multi-faceted and indicative phenomenon, since at all times the art immediately reacted to any historical changes and reflected the socio-cultural processes. The purpose of this article is to define and compare special artistic features of the book design in Ukraine in the period of 1980s and 1990s. The article considers special aspects of book design development in the territory of modern Ukraine at the close of the 20th century, examines isolated and correlated artistic features of the Ukrainian book editions of the 1980s and 1990s as two qualitatively different periods, and describes the main characteristics of the relevant book products. Moreover, the leading book masters, whose work reflected specifics of this period and became trademarks of the abovementioned age, are determined. Consequently, book design development in Ukraine in the late 20th century looks rather ambiguous from an artistic point of view. The radical structural and political state reorganization in the early 1990s divided its history in two separate stages and influenced all art spheres without exclusion, including the book art. One of the main significant changes in the book design sphere was a transition from classical forms, which depended on the outdated production technologies in the Soviet era, to the electronic design and active computerization of all operations in the sphere of book production. This new environment influenced the worldview of artists and book designers. Put in other words, the mentioned circumstances influenced the restructuring and reformatting of the entire industry, and strengthened the role of a designer as a co-author of a book. This ensured access to new printing standards and contributed to the development of book publishing industry in Ukraine.

NEWLY FOUND MIDDLE PERSIAN INSCRIPTIONS OF ĀMĀRGAR DARIUŠ IN DERBENT
In: Istorija, archeologija i ėtnografija Kavkaza: History, archeology and ethnography of the Caucasus, Band 19, Heft 1, S. 173-187
ISSN: 2618-849X
Until recently, 32 Middle Persian inscriptions documenting the construction of the Derbent defensive complex and dating from the very end of the 560s. AD were known. Now the construction Middle Persian inscriptions of Derbent has been replenished with two more inscriptions - No. 33 and No. 34, opened by the authors in 2016 and 2021, respectively. Inscription No. 33 is located between towers 18 and 19 of the northern city defensive wall in the central part of the curtain, at a height of 1.5 m. It has poor preservation. But, nevertheless, its text is restored from the preserved fragments of letters and by analogy with other inscriptions similar in content. The inscription is three-line, vertical. Reconstructible text: [Da]r[iuš ī] Ā[durbādagān] ām[ārgar]. Inscription No. 34 is located between towers 14 and 15 of the northern wall, at a height of 2.15-2.6 m. The inscription is vertical, three-line, separate letters and parts of letters are preserved, and its text is reconstructed according to the surviving letters and analogies with other inscriptions. Its text reads: Dari[u]š ī [Ādurbādag]ān ām[ā]rgar.
Both inscriptions are composed on behalf of the āmārgar – a high official, chief financier and tax inspector of the vast Adurbadagan area, which during the reign of Shahanshah Khosrow I Anushirvan (531-579) included not only Adurbadagan proper, but all the Caucasian possessions of Sasanian Iran up to Derbent. The newly discovered inscriptions No. 33 and No. 34 belong to the subgroup b, group 1 of the Middle Persian inscriptions of Derbent, which represents the inscriptions of āmārgar Dariush. Now 19 (out of 34) inscriptions compiled on his behalf are already known, and all of them are carved on the northern wall of the city, where a total of 24 inscriptions are located.
Found in (Mis)translation, or the Magic of Foreign Words
