Purpose: The objective of this study involves the determination of cyclical characteristics that occur on the European construction market. Design/Methodology/Approach: In the research implementation process, time-frequency analysis was used to identify and analyze cyclicalities in the construction market. Findings: The results clearly demonstrate the absence of a homogeneous construction market in the investigated countries. The diversity of the European construction market is revealed by the various responses to the periods corresponding to the ups and downs of the economy. Practical Implications: The present research provides grounds for the clear indication of specific countries and cyclical characteristics on the construction market in them to define guidelines suitable for the identification of adequate scenarios for the development of construction markets in them. Originality/value: The conclusion derived from the study is associated with the classification of construction markets and identification of various responses of individual markets to the occurrence of macroeconomic or microeconomic stimuli. ; peer-reviewed

Having in mind the various effects of an Economic Union with a common currency such as the EMU, we examine the existence of Real Interest Rate Parity conditions, as these are defined by the general theory of Purchasing Power Parity theory, among several European Union member states since after the introduction of the Euro an ideal setting has emerged for existence of such a parity (common currency, one central bank that regulates the markets and sets the reference interest rate for the participating members, introduction of common legislative guidelines for tax setting, removal of trade and fund transfer barriers etc.).The study contains three main sections. In the next section, we describe the establishment of the economic and monetary union. Moreover it is examined whether financial structures across European countries have become more similar after the introduction of the single currency. Section 2 assesses the progress toward financial integration in the major euro-area financial segments, namely money markets, bond markets, equity markets and banking. This section also describes some of the most interesting financial developments that occurred alongside with the integration process, partly spurred by the euro. In section 3 we present the general theory of PPP and a literature review of the previous studies in the subject of Real Interest Rate parity. In section 4 we present and our empirical analysis and the results that were derived and we conclude with Section 5.

"After decades of economic integration and EU enlargement, the economic geography of Europe has shifted, with new peripheries emerging and the core showing signs of fragmentation. This book examines the paths of the core and peripheral countries, with a focus on their diverse productive capabilities and their interdependence. Crisis in the European Monetary Union: A Core-Periphery Perspective provides a new framework for analysing the economic crisis that has shaken the Eurozone countries. Its analysis goes beyond the short-term, to study the medium and long-term relations between 'core' countries (particularly Germany) and Southern European 'peripheral' countries. The authors argue that long-term sustainability means assigning the state a key role in guiding investment, which in turn implies industrial policies geared towards diversifying, innovating and strengthening the economic structures of peripheral countries to help them thrive.Offering a fresh angle on the European crisis, this volume will appeal to students, academics and policymakers interested in the past, present and future construction of Europe."--Provided by publisher.
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine agricultural trade competitiveness of EU candidate countries (CCs) and Eastern Partnership countries (EPCs) compared to Polish agriculture, based on available 1992–2017 EUROSTAT and FAOSTAT data. Design/Methodology/Approach: This paper uses selected indicators of trade competitiveness. Findings: The study attempts to tell which of the countries covered are in a position to become competitive in European Union (EU) markets. As shown by the calculated competitiveness indicators, compared to Polish agriculture (which is competitive in respect of many agri-food products), some of the countries surveyed are also likely to become competitive players in the Union market. Due to increasing specialization indicator, Belarus and Ukraine are well positioned to become competitive in the dairy market. The market for cereals is dominated by three countries: Moldova, Ukraine and Serbia which demonstrate high levels of SI, CR and XRCA. In turn, the largest group of countries covered by this analysis specialize in fruit and vegetable exports, and are likely to attain the highest competitiveness levels in that very market. Practical Implications: The study of the foreign trade competitiveness using statistical methods is an important element in testing economic theories in the field of competitiveness research in the CCs and EPCs and it shows which countries may become competitive in the future in the EU market. Originality/Value: Showing the importance of foreign trade in the CCs and EPCs with the EU we can observe its impact on the future integration process of the CCs and EPCs. The results of the research are important from the point of view of the contribution to the economy of European integration, both in theoretical and empirical terms, but above all in the field of sectoral policy, which is the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). A comprehensive approach to the subject of research and its multidirectional nature, as well as the obtained results will be important both for the agricultural policy of the studied countries, as well as for the CAP and for the Polish agriculture. ; peer-reviewed
