Recent studies conducted around the world have revealed a clear link between the instructional position of principal leadership and school improvement. Instructional leadership, which aims to foster a teaching and learning community, is seen as a key component of successful teaching and long-term school improvement. The rise in site-specific management roles, which are based on instructional leadership experiences, is one of the initiatives launched by the South African government to reform education. In South Africa, school principals are responsible for academic development. This qualitative research aimed to learn more about the role of principals in sustaining school improvement in the North West Province of South Africa. Premised in the qualitative research approach, a purposive sampling technique was used to select six schools that had sustained school improvement for some years. Findings from the study revealed that principals play a crucial role in sustaining school improvement. The study findings reinforce recent literature that identifies instructional leadership as a cornerstone for school improvement.

Gandhi returned for India on 9th January in 1915 from South Africa. Gandhi noticed the status of the Indians is like the South African Indians. At that moment, British Government applied their theory and politics in Indian society and a handful educated Indians were protesting against the British power in disunited. There was no communication among the Indian leaders and not in touch with the masses. As a result, Indian National Leaders were isolated from the masses. Gandhi had seen the same scenario in South Africa. He travelled in different parts in India and contacted with the local leaders and also the peoples in any level of the society. He organized different peasant and worker movements and built a relation with the Indian National Congress in various issues. Gandhi organized Non-cooperation movement during the year of 1920-22 with the Indian National Congress. At that moment, he turned as spokesman of the Indian National Congress. The Indian Congress to be led by Gandhi then. Thus he became a pioneer leader of the Indian National Congress.

In this collection of studies, environmental, institutional, social and cultural aspects of sustainability are considered in a variety of towns and cities in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Central and South America. Many of the contributors focus particularly on meeting the needs of the urban poor. The main themes are: urban environmental management with particular reference to economic activities and housing; achieving institutional, social and cultural sustainability; and managing urban development processes to reduce their environmental impacts, to improve the produced built environments and sustain improved practices. Drawing on case studies of individual cities (Lahore, Shanghai, Medellin, Florianopolis, Hofuf, Cairo) and countries (South Africa, Mozambique, Iran) as well as comparative research and analytical procedures, the international group of contributors evaluate government policies and practices and make suggestions for improvements.

Abstract
This paper investigates the determinants of access to formal credit by poor households in South Africa. Despite some progress in poverty reduction in the recent years, it remains astonishingly high by historical and international standards. Access to credit is believed by some scholars to be a primary means to address poverty and improve the standards of living of poor households. Thus, it is necessary to identify the determinants of the propensity to borrow and of the amount that is borrowed. Using 2008-2012 data from the National Income Dynamics Study (NIDS), a Heckman Selection model was estimated. The results from this study suggest that age of the household head, race, educational level, gender, employment, geographic location of households affect the propensity to borrow by poor households in South Africa.

Afrika'da ulusal kurtuluş mücadeleleri İkinci Dünya Savaşı'nın ardından -özellikle 1960'lı yıllarla birlikte- yoğunlaşmıştır. Bu ulusal kurtuluş mücadelelerini anlamak açısından küresel, bölgesel ve yerel şartlara bakmak gerekmektedir. Küresel bağlamda Soğuk Savaş'ın etkisiyle birlikte Afrika'daki sömürgeciliğe maruz kalan halklar SSCB ve Çin Halk Cumhuriyeti'nin etkisiyle önemli bir destek bulmuştur. Bölgesel bağlamda ise sömürgeciliğe karşı ortak bir fikriyat oluşmuş, bu ortaklık yer yer pratiğe dönüşmüştür. Yerel düzlemde ise uzun süredir sömürgeciliğe karşı mücadele eden toplumsal hareketlerin iktidarı ele geçirmeye başladıkları bir konjonktür oluşmaya başlamıştır. Çalışmada üç farklı sömürge devleti tarafından sömürülen üç ülke incelenmiştir: Kenya (İngiltere tarafından), Burkina Faso (Fransa tarafından) ve Yeşil Burun Adaları (Portekiz tarafından). Bu seçimin gerekçesi üç farklı dilin konuşulduğu bu ülkelerde devrim ve ulus-inşasının nasıl seyirler izlediğini bulgulamaktır. Her üç ülkede iktidarın farklı şekillerde devralınışı, iktidar pratikleri ve iktidardan ayrılma süreçleri farklı stratejiler göstermektedir. Ancak üç harekette de ortak olan kimi özellikler bulunmaktadır. Devrimci milliyetçilikle desteklenen bir Afrika sosyalizmi ideolojisi, popülist stratejinin kullanılışı ve birleşik bir Afrika tahayyülü. Karşılaştırmalı tarihsel analiz yönteminin kullanıldığı çalışmada ilk olarak devrimler tarihi incelenirken ikinci kısımda ise elde edilen bulgular analiz edilmektedir.
