While there has been a regional and international focus on large reservoirs in Central Asia, smaller transboundary reservoirs within the Ferghana Valley have been overlooked. The valley is shared by Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, three riparian countries of the upstream Syr Darya. Located within the valley are many small transboundary tributaries and reservoirs. An analysis of the initial proposals and documented negotiations for four of these reservoirs reveals a changing pattern of benefit sharing. These past approaches call into question the argument that the boundaries set by the Soviets did not matter, as well as the assumption that Moscow as a hegemon planned infrastructure in order to divide and rule Central Asia.

Late Bronze Age imported vessels have been found throughout Egypt during the New Kingdom. Their presence is a tangible testament to the international trade carried out throughout the eastern Mediterranean during this period. Those found at Piramesses/Qantir are particularly important as they represent what was acquired by the royal court in the Nineteenth Dynasty. A petrographic study aimed to clarify the origin of the LBA Canaanite jars and some other imports at Qantir based on a fabric classification system. Examining the prevalence of fabrics from two contexts at the site suggests those areas that were likely key exporters, but also indicates other minor producers may have been involved.

Beginning with an off-color and seemingly off-topic parenthetical joke near the conclusion of Elfriede Jelinek's novel Gier (2000), this article reads that book beside a draft fragment of Ingeborg Bachmann's 1971 novel Malina called "Besichtigung einer alten Stadt" in order to reveal how both authors simultaneously resist but neverthe-less participate in international literary tourism relating to their native Austria. Both authors grapple with what it means to write of a national home in an apparently postnational era, but whereas Bachmann's work is still marked by a nostalgia for the inherently transnational Austro-Hungarian Empire, Jelinek comes to understand the postnational as the very occasion for the construction of national identity.

This educational programme in form of a multiannual summer school includes activities divided into two modules: one on Scandinavian, Finnic and Baltic languages (Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Finnish, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian taught in 2014), and the other one on culture, history, geography, law and economy courses related to the North. It also includes workshops both for the students and the staff with a focus on the exchange of good practices and transfer of expertise between the Romanian trainers and the Norwegian partners. The educational programme will be followed by an international conference which will approach some of the topics debated during the summer school from the perspective of scholarly research.

L'auteure analyse la politique extérieure du Brésil, et en particulier la politique africaine, du début des années 2000, avec l'arrivée au pouvoir de Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva en 2003, jusqu'à nos jours avec Dilma Rousseff. Le contexte difficile de la prise de pouvoir de cette dernière l'a contraint à décider les réductions budgétaires de la politique extérieure au profit de la politique intérieure et à orienter de manière plus marquée la politique extérieure vers un appui aux exportations. Dans une concurrence vive entre le Brésil et la Chine sur le plan du commerce et des investissements notamment, l'Afrique subsaharienne représente un marché important pour le Brésil et un allié potentiel sur la scène internationale.

Alors que le cyberespace est devenu un sujet incontournable des agendas diplomatiques internationaux, il existe peu d'études dédiées à l'analyse de l'adaptation des organisations internationales, et plus particulièrement européennes, à ce phénomène. Cet article propose ainsi une étude comparée des transformations bureaucratiques, institutionnelles et politiques de l'Otan et de l'Union européenne relatives à l'intégration des enjeux de cybersécurité et de cyberdéfense dans leurs missions. Le constat est mitigé, et si les deux institutions ont mis en place les moyens techniques et institutionnels nécessaires pour protéger leurs infrastructures et leurs réseaux, la coopération politique intergouvernementale se heurte au principe de souveraineté, limitant de facto la portée des actions de l'Otan comme de l'UE dans le domaine militaire.

This paper exhibits the historical evolution of the balance sheet in the People's Republic of China. In particular, we examine three major changes in the balance sheet (which reports the financial position of an economic or business entity) since the founding of the new China in 1949 and the political, social and economic changes during this period. The content, structure and presentation of the balance sheet (or alternative forms of the statement in use) are illustrated. The political and economic factors driving its evolution are analyzed to assist readers in understanding the rapid changes in Chinese accounting over the last six decades. The implications of the Chinese experience for international accounting convergence are also briefly outlined.

Cet article présente les premiers résultats des travaux de l'équipe française des Comptes de transfert nationaux. Appliquant une méthodologie internationale aux données françaises, cette équipe a construit les profils par âge des revenus du travail et de la consommation entre les années 1979 et 2005. Les profils de revenus du travail se sont déformés en faveur des plus âgés tandis que les profils de consommation sont restés relativement stables. Cela indique que d'importants transferts entre les générations ont eu lieu et que la tolérance pour l'inégalité entre les âges est faible. Néanmoins, la part des transferts bénéficiant aux plus âgés a augmenté tandis que celle des transferts bénéficiant aux plus jeunes a diminué.

L'article analyse l'application de la Loi sur la mémoire historique de 2007 à travers quatre grands quotidiens, ABC, El País, El Mundo, La Vanguardia, depuis la polémique sur le retrait ou non des symboles franquistes à la lente ouverture des fosses communes et la non annulation des sentences des tribunaux d'exception. Répondre à la demande de justice des familles supposait de revenir sur la loi d'amnistie de 1977. Or, l'exclusion de la magistrature du juge Garzón a montré le refus de la justice espagnole de le faire, obligeant les familles à se tourner vers la justice internationale. La deuxième partie de cet article est consacrée aux demandes en cours auprès de la justice argentine.

AbstractWhen contagion is defined as a significant increase in market comovement after a shock to one country, we propose a test for financial contagion based on a nonparametric measure of the cross‐market correlation. Monte Carlo simulation studies show that our test has reasonable size and good power to detect financial contagion, and that Forbes and Rigobon's test (2002) is relatively conservative, indicating that their test tends not to find evidence of contagion when it does exist. Applying our test to investigate contagion from the 1997 East Asian crisis and the 2007 Subprime crisis, we find that there existed international financial contagion from the two financial crises.

The article discusses the principles of the Polish foreign policy and tries to identify the shared principles with the diplomacy of the Holy See. Author concentrates on the three major issues. The first one is devoted to the recognition of the role of morality in international relations which should be clearly distinguished from being confused with any ideology. The second one deals with the human rights and basic liberties in the light of the results of the Second Vatican Council which identified the notion of human dignity as their basis. The third one shared principle is the strong support for the idea of European integration and unity.

Toutefois, la magnificence architecturale et la vaste entreprise d'intervention urbaine qui l'accompagne ont leur revers : inspirés des principes de la prévention situationnelle, les techniques sollicitées et les dispositifs mis en place sont davantage mobilisés pour garantir des impératifs sécuritaires drastiques que pour célébrer, dans la liesse, la fête « do futebol ».

De nombreuses recherches empiriques démontrent que des valeurs et attitudes telles que la confiance en l'autre, l'empathie, le respect, la coopération, etc., peuvent avoir un impact non seulement sur les relations interpersonnelles mais, plus largement, sur la vie sociale. Elles peuvent influer sur des domaines de politique publique aussi divers que l'économie, la santé, l'éducation, la politique familiale, l'emploi, l'environnement, la justice, et même les relations internationales. Cet article détaille ce fait dans trois domaines : l'enseignement humaniste, la justice restauratrice et les organisations « positives ». Il conclut sur l'attitude pertinente à adopter à l'égard des « cavaliers seuls », en s'appuyant sur le modèle de la pyramide régulatrice de Braithwaite.

This paper analyzes Vietnamese online media coverage of recent social movements in Egypt, Thailand and Burma to examine how the communist party-state's media covers events abroad that could be seen as having metaphorical significance or potential for political change in Vietnam. It shows that different social movements receive varying levels of coverage with different emphases in terms of content. While commercialization of the state-run press in Vietnam has perhaps opened a neoliberal space for alternative representations of information, resulting in press coverage of international social movements that largely mirrors Western coverage, the Vietnamese media still carefully steers clear of any metaphorical meanings that these events may evoke for the party-state.

With the changing demographics of the labor force, management of work and family role boundaries has become an important area of research. However, the literature surrounding boundary theory – one of the most prevalent theories of work–family role management – has evolved too narrowly. Although early boundary theory development acknowledged the importance of higher level social institutions, they have been largely omitted from the current research, which is predominantly individual-focused. The present article further develops the role of international regulative institutions in managing work and family role boundaries, including the consequences of their omission in the current literature for individual employees, organizations and the fit between them.
