Tony E. Adams' (2011) book presents what could be considered a revolutionary, humanizing understanding of same-sex attraction. This is accomplished by providing a relational understanding of "the closet" and experiences of coming into, living in, and coming out of the closet. It is a production of significant social relevance, denouncing the marginalizing effects of the domains of heteronormativity. While highly scholarly, his evocative storytelling makes this book accessible to an interested reader regardless of his or her degree or area of specialization.

Purpose
This paper is a part of a series of papers seeking insight into a holistic perspective into the lives, experiences and vulnerabilities of male-to-female transgender persons (from here on referred to as "transgender persons"/"Ladyboys") within the sex industry in Southeast Asia. "Ladyboy" in Thai context specifically refers to the cultural subgroup, rather than the person's gender identity and is not seen as an offensive term. Among the minimal studies that have been conducted, the majority have focused on sexual health and the likelihood of contracting or spreading HIV/AIDS, while often ignoring the possibility of other vulnerabilities. The paper aims to discuss this issue.


Design/methodology/approach
The study interviews 60 transgender persons working within red light areas of Bangkok. The final research instrument was a questionnaire of 11 sub-themes, containing both multiple choice and open-ended questions.


Findings
This study found that 81 percent of participants had entered the sex industry due to financial necessity. There was also a high vulnerability among transgender sex workers to physical and sexual violence. This includes nearly a quarter (24 percent) who cite being forced to have sex and 26 percent who cite physical assault within the last 12 months.


Social implications
These findings can aid the development of programs and social services that address the needs of ladyboys, looking beyond gender expression and social identity to meet needs and vulnerabilities that often go overlooked.


Originality/value
This survey provides deeper understanding of the vulnerability of transgender sex workers, including their trajectory into sex work and potential alternatives.

In response to the predominance of heteronormativity in the studies on household work, this article explores how this work is organized and shared in same-sex couples. For this purpose, a qualitative study (twenty interviews with homosexual couples) was carried out, examining the imbalances,
negotiation process, level of satisfaction and gendered family legacy in the current organization of household work. It was concluded that the absence of the difference in sex in the couple contributed to a more flexible and egalitarian form of negotiating the organization of the tasks. The
women tend towards greater specialization in the tasks and the men towards greater delegation – a reflection of gender socialization.

In recent years some legal changes that seek a new deal towards LGBTI have occurred . However, the discussion on gay or same-sex marriage is stagnated in both the legislative debate and public opinion. From the perspective of the Appraisal theory (Martin and White, 2005), the aim is to identify the ideological stances of those in favor and those against this law through the analysis of two letters to the editor. Some of the main results include a) the notorious contrast of monoglossic and heteroglossic resources used in the letters: one referring to received truths and the other resorting to historical evidence; b) the recurrence of empowering and disempowering strategies to define institutional conflicts; and c) strategies that legitimize their own stances. ; En los últimos años se han producido cambios jurí­dicos que buscan un nuevo trato hacia la comunidad LGBTI (lesbianas, gay, bisexuales, transexuales e intersexuales) en Chile. Sin embargo, la discusión sobre el Matrimonio Igualitario sigue entrampada tanto en el debate legislativo como en la opinión pública. Desde la perspectiva del modelo de VALORACIí"N (Martin y White, 2005), se busca revelar los posicionamientos ideológicos de quienes promueven dicha ley y de quienes son sus detractores a través del análisis de dos cartas al director. Entre los principales resultados se puede mencionar la marcada contraposición de los recursos de monoglosia y heteroglosia en los textos en contra y a favor del Matrimonio Igualitario.

peer-reviewed ; The legal mechanism by which same-sex relationships are recognised has long been a contentious issue around the world. In many countries, same-sex marriage and civil partnership (CP) have been met with stark opposition emanating from assumptions of heterosexuality and the trope of the heterosexual family. However, these are not the only lines upon which tensions around same-sex relationships have settled. Key differences between CP and same-sex marriage have resulted in tensions among lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) organisations. This paper seeks to explore these tensions and ambiguities and argues that the weight of heteronormative expectation around same-sex relationship recognition results in the masking of a process that (re)produces societal norms and privileges.Firstly, I explore the emergence of same-sex marriage and CP1 through the examples of the U.S. and the UK. Secondly, in light of these examples, I turn to the case of Ireland to explore how CP has been received and to examine the politics of how the CP/same-sex marriage divide has been constructed within the LGBT political landscape. Finally, I deconstruct the CP/same-sex marriage binary that exists and assert that this false binary and the dominant 'gay agenda' of marriage (Rohrer 2009) have distracted from a normalising project that sanitises alternatives to the norm of heterosexuality
