As multinational corporations have become truly globalised, demands for global standards on their behaviour are increasingly difficult to dismiss. Work conditions in sweatshops, widespread destruction of the environment, and pharmaceutical trials in third world countries are only the tip of the iceberg. This timely collection of essays addresses the interface between the calls for corporate social responsibility and the demands for an extension of international human rights standards

Relevance of research. In the conditions of globalization of economy and integration of Ukraine into the European space, the introduction of business practices of European countries, in particular realization of the principles of corporate social responsibility (CSR) as a guarantee of stable development of society and the state becomes more and more important. The purpose of this study is to analyze the practice of CSR implementation by Ukrainian enterprises, to identify the problems and obstacles to the implementation of CSR policy by Ukrainian business and to generate proposals of overcoming the existing problems. Research methods: generalization, induction and deduction, analysis and synthesis, graphical methods. Results of work. Practical aspects of CSR policy implementation in Ukrainian business are analyzed. The main reasons for CSR implementation by Ukrainian business entities are systematized and the main reasons for refusing such implementation are discovered. Aspects of understanding of CSR essence by Ukrainian business entities are investigated, consistency of this understanding with the goals of sustainable development formulated by UN Global Compact is analyzed. Obstacles to the implementation of CSR principles are identified and ways to overcome them are proposed. Conclusions. The main problems in the implementation of CSR principles in the activities of Ukrainian companies are the lack of funds to implement such measures and the lack of awareness of the importance of CSR to both business and consumers. Among the ways of overcoming the problems of CSR implementation by Ukrainian companies are the following: 1) developing a system of measures to stimulate CSR from the state (material incentives, legislative framework, promotion of CSR principles, own example); 2) implementing large–scale CSR principles; 3) formation of a new, socially responsible consciousness among consumers and their demand for socially responsible, ethical products.
Since the early 2000s, corporate social responsibility (CSR) has rapidly gained significance in India, both among large companies and as a policy instrument formally intended to foster corporate contributions to the country's development goals. This book analyses this phenomenon in relation to broader political and economic changes induced by India's 'pro-business' development strategy. Using a systems-theoretical approach, the analysis shows that 'pro-business' policies have led profit-driven economic processes to increasingly override collective aspirations for social welfare, environmental protection, and democracy. In order to decipher how CSR changes the interplays between profit-making and developmental aspirations, the book provides detailed analyses of CSR in the cement industry and in regulatory policies adopted by the central government. It shows that CSR operates as an 'intermediary institution' which further enhances the autonomy of the economic system, as it makes profit-making more responsive to risks arising from competing collective values and interests.
Corporate Social Responsibility is more crucial now than ever, as society as a whole responds to challenges on a global scale - from the continuing strife nationalism causes to international supply chains, to the problems posed by the climate change crisis, to the continuing issue of slavery in the modern age. The Palgrave Handbook of Corporate Social Responsibility is a comprehensive, authoritative overview of CSR in all its forms, providing a multiplicity of interdisciplinary tertiary research from esteemed academics in their fields. It will cover everything from the theoretical basis for CSR, to environmental aspects of CSR, including responses to climate change and resource depletion; society and CSR, including work-life balance and modern slavery; regional aspects of CSR (reviewing CSR in both developed and developing countries, and providing an in-depth examination of Latin America, Africa and the Middle East). It is aimed as a resource for a global scholarly audience looking for a detailed presentation of major accounts of corporate social responsibility on an international scale.
