What might be the heuristic benefits for international relations of turning our attention to the concept of amity? This is the question addressed in the foregoing essay. At first glance, the notion of amity seems too irridecent, too elusive, too misleading, and above all perhaps too vivacious. Nevertheless, while the rhetorical use of amity in diplomatic relations has a great many connotations, it serves as a marker of transformations in political systems and in the international system to this day. With changing circumstances and contexts come different conceptions of amity, depending on whether we are considering political order and anarchy, war and peace or, more generally, relations between the self and others, between internal and external, domestic and foreign in and between human societies. Indeed, amity reveals all its richness in these manifold ambiguities, particularly nowadays in the era of globalization. Adapted from the source document.

Abstract
The discourse on migration and poverty has largely shown that international labour migration reduces monetary poverty for the migrant-sending households. With the international consensus that poverty is multidimensional and goes beyond income alone, many studies evaluate the nexus between migration and non-monetary aspects of life, such as education and health. These show mixed evidence. Far fewer studies assess whether suffering from simultaneous deprivations in multiple indicators of well-being is affected by migration—which would be a full multidimensional poverty analysis at the household level. To assess the value-added of the latter, we empirically compare three approaches to measure poverty and the effect of migration on the three. These are (1) a solely monetary approach, (2) a dashboard approach that considers several non-monetary well-being deprivations, and (3) a counting approach that evaluates whether the multiple deprivations manifest themselves jointly. Using household panel data for rural Bangladesh, we assess how the association between international labour migration and poverty among the stay-behind household members changes in light of the three approaches. The endogenous nature of migration in this connection is explicitly addressed by applying a Hausman–Taylor estimation procedure. We corroborate that poverty is related to a lower likelihood of being monetary poor, but we do not find that it is associated with an increased likelihood of exiting multidimensional poverty altogether. However, we do find that it is associated with a lower likelihood of facing simultaneous deprivations in terms of sanitation, electricity, and asset-ownership among those who live in multidimensional poverty.

This volume surveys the state-of-the-art of global international modeling. All 15 models included in the survey feature national or regional disaggregation of the world economy and interdependencies among the various nations and regions. A few are constructed for short-term forecasting, but the primary focus is on long-run models and applications. Macroeconomic, input-output, general equilibrium, trade and exchange rate, and several hybrid models are included. A cross-sectional analysis by the editor compares the structures, linkage mechanisms, methodologies and applications of the various models and concludes with some observations on prospective research trends.

In this paper an index of financial competitiveness is calculated that corresponds to the market-to-book ratio of inward FDI stocks. For a panel of five advanced economies from 1980 to 2006 it is shown that price competitiveness, stable inflation rates and registered patents have a positive impact on the index. Institutional factors like EMU membership or Anglo-Saxon legislation also play a role. Financial competitiveness in turn encourages FDI inflows whereas it benefits fixed investment relative to M&A. There is also some evidence inflows whereas it benefits fixed investment relative to M&A. There is also some evidence among investors. -- competitiveness ; foreign direct investment ; international integration

THIS ARTICLE IS ON SPEAKING THE LANGUAGE OF EXILE. IT STATES THAT EXILE IS IN ITSELF A FORM OF DISSIDENCE, SINCE IT INVOLVES UPROOTING ONESELF FROM A FAMILY, A COUNTRY OR A LANGUAGE. MORE IMPORTANTLY, IT IS A IRRELIGIOUS ACT THAT CUTS ALL TIES, FOR RELIGION IS NOTHING MORE THAN MEMBERSHIP OF A REAL OR SYMBOLIC COMMUNITY WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT BE TRANSCENDENTAL, BUT WHICH ALWAYS CONSTITUTES A LINK, A HOMOLOGY, AN UNDERSTANDING. THE EXILE CUTS ALL LINKS. AMBIGUITY, UNCERTAINTY, AND THE CEASELESS QUESTIONING OF IDENTITY-THESE ARE RESOURCES OF THE EXILES. THE PURPOSE OF THE ARTICLE IS TO PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A PUBLIC CELEBRATION OF WHAT DISSIDENT WORKS OF THOUGHT ALREADY CELEBRATE IN COUNTLESS SCATTERED LOCALES OF RESEARCH LABOR: DIFFERENCE, NOT IDENTITY; THE QUESTIONING AND TRANSGRESSIONS OF LIMITS, NOT THE ASSERTION OF BOUNDARIES AND FRAMEWORKS; A READINESS TO QUESTION HOW MEANING AND ORDER ARE IMPOSED, NOT THE SEARCH FOR MEANING AND ORDER ALREADY IN PLACE; THE UNRELENTING AND METICULOUS ANALYSIS OF THE WORKINGS OF POWER IN MODERN GLOBAL LIFE, NOT THE LONGING FOR A SOVEREIGN FIGURE THAT PROMISES DELIVERANCE FROM POWER; THE STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM, NOT A RELIGIOUS DESIRE TO PRODUCE SOME TERRITORIAL DOMICILE TO CALL HOME.

The ethnic conflict between the Serbs and the Albanians in Kosovo led to the outbreak of armed conflict accompanied by violence and acts of genocide. It forced international organizations to take decisive action to end the conflict, as well as start a process of building peace and stabilize the situation in the region. NATO, the UN, the OSCE and the EU played a major role in these activities. The author of the article has analyzed the role of these organizations in efforts to restore peace and stabilize the political situation in the region undertaken as part of Operation Allied Force, KFOR and the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).
Around the globe and starting in the affluent West, women have made major, even revolutionary, strides toward equality with men. However, while access to major social institutions has equalized dramatically, expanded participation in labor markets and educational systems often comes in the form of gender-differentiated roles within these institutions. This article reviews international trends on different indicators of women's economic status and considers explanations for observed patterns. The forms of equality that tend to persist in advanced industrial societies are those that are readily interpreted as outcomes of free choices by formally equal but innately different men and women.
