WOS: 000352154400001 ; A search is performed for long-lived particles that decay into final states that include a pair of electrons or a pair of muons. The experimental signature is a distinctive topology consisting of a pair of charged leptons originating from a displaced secondary vertex. Events corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.6 (20.5) fb(-1) in the electron (muon) channel were collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC in proton-proton collisions at root s TeV. No significant excess is observed above standard model expectations. Upper limits on the product of the cross section and branching fraction of such a signal are presented as a function of the long-lived particle's mean proper decay length. The limits are presented in an approximately model-independent way, allowing them to be applied to a wide class of models yielding the above topology. Over much of the investigated parameter space, the limits obtained are the most stringent to date. In the specific case of a model in which a Higgs boson in the mass range 125-1000 GeV/c(2) decays into a pair of long-lived neutral bosons in the mass range 20-350 GeV= c(2), each of which can then decay to dileptons, the upper limits obtained are typically in the range 0.2-10 fb for mean proper decay lengths of the long-lived particles in the range 0.01-100 cm. In the case of the lowest Higgs mass considered (125 GeV/c(2)), the limits are in the range 2-50 fb. This dissertation argues that the psychic force that Freud named "the death drive" would more precisely be termed "the disability drive." Freud's concept of the death drive emerged from his efforts to account for feelings, desires, and actions that seemed not to accord with rational self-interest or the desire for pleasure. Positing that human subjectivity was intrinsically divided against itself, Freud suggested that the ego's instincts for pleasure and survival were undermined by a competing component of mental life, which he called the death drive. But the death drive does not primarily refer to biological death, and the term has consequently provoked confusion. By distancing Freud's theory from physical death and highlighting its imbrication with disability, I revise this important psychoanalytic concept and reveal its utility to disability studies. While Freud envisaged a human subject that is drawn, despite itself, toward something like death, I propose that this "something" can productively be understood as disability. In addition, I contend that our culture's repression of the disability drive, and its resultant projection of the drive onto stigmatized minorities, is a root cause of multiple forms of oppression."The Disability Drive" opens with a question: "What makes disability so sexy?" This is a counterintuitive query; after all, the dominant culture usually depicts disability as decidedly unsexy. But by performing a critical disability studies analysis of Freud's writings about sexuality and the death drive, I theorize sex as an intrinsically disabling experience and suggest that fantasies of disability may have an unrecognized sexual appeal. These possibilities lead me to introduce a new interpretive framework, "the sexual model of disability," which I posit as an alternative to disability studies' prevailing analytic paradigm, the social model of disability. While the social model defines disability as a system of oppression that isolates and excludes disabled people, the sexual model of disability goes deeper than this, locating the impetus for these exclusions in our culture's repression of the disability drive. Because disability may provoke an erotic excitement that the ego cannot bear to acknowledge, ableist culture is often torn between an urge to witness disability (e.g., by staring at disabled people) and an impulse to hide disability from view (e.g., by confining disabled people to institutions). The sexual model of disability has the potential to make interventions not only in disability studies but also in a range of other disciplines. In Chapter 1, I bring my account of the disability drive to bear on signal texts in queer theory. In doing so, I proffer an answer to a question that has long troubled disability scholars: given the many similarities between ableism and homophobia, why have queer theorists often been reluctant to engage with disability studies? Observing that founding texts in queer theory repudiate "feminist identity politics" and liken this discourse to madness and to figurative states of blindness and paralysis, I argue that these texts project the disability drive onto feminism, thus allowing queer theory to portray its own erotics as mobile, playful, and physically and mentally able. In Chapter 2, I show that the sexual model of disability can subvert a foundational concept in psychoanalysis: the disease category "hysteria." Analyzing Freud's case history Dora, which was published in 1905, in conjunction with Beyond the Pleasure Principle, which was published in 1920, I argue that Freud's notion of hysteria adumbrates his later theorization of the drive. The diagnostic category of hysteria, I contend, constitutes a projection of the disability drive onto people with what I call "undocumented disabilities," that is, nonapparent impairments for which mainstream western medicine cannot identify biological causes. One effect of this projection is that people with undocumented disabilities are figured as epistemologically disabled; that is, we are seen as distinctively lacking in the capacity to know ourselves.The social position of people with undocumented disabilities differs from that of the paradigmatic subject of disability studies: while people with undocumented impairments are often denied recognition of the disabling suffering that shapes our lives, people with disabilities that are visible and/or documented are frequently subjected to unwanted displays of pity. For this reason, "no pity" has long been a rallying cry of the disability rights movement. But is it possible to proscribe pity? In Chapter 3, I argue that instead of seeking to banish the affect of pity, disability scholars might do better to attend to the complex ways in which this affect can be incited and expressed. Toward this end, I propose a distinction between what I call "primary pity" and "secondary pity." The term "secondary pity" accords with the everyday understanding of pity, in which a person who feels pity is assumed to occupy a position of superiority in relation to a person who is pitied. Primary pity refers to a very different affective process, which is profoundly destabilizing to the ego of the person who feels pity. Derived in part from Freud's notion of "primary narcissism," my concept of primary pity occupies a liminal position between the erasure of the ego that primary narcissism entails and the buttressing of the ego involved in secondary narcissism. Because primary pity involves a complex process of identification, in which the subject and the object of pity risk becoming fantasmatically indistinguishable, this emotion threatens the ego's belief in its self-sufficiency and autonomy. I argue that primary pity's threat to the ego can be understood as a manifestation of the disability drive, and I suggest that the "no pity" position taken up by disability activists and scholars may be invested in a fantasy of overcoming the disability drive.This dissertation argues that rather than seeking to overcome the disability drive, cultural critics and activists should work to acknowledge the myriad ways in which the drive determines us. It is important to recognize and acknowledge one's determination by the disability drive because denying or repressing the ways in which this psychic force governs us will inevitably lead to the drive's being abjected onto groups of stigmatized others. In Chapter 4, I argue that in contemporary US American culture fat people constitute one such group. This chapter focuses on the drive to eat, a compulsion that I define as inseparable from the disability drive. Dependence, (on food), loss of mastery (over the intensities of the pleasures of eating), and failures of control (over what, and how much, one eats) combine to make hunger a fundamentally disabling drive. But instead of acknowledging that we are all disabled by the drive to eat, our culture abjects this drive onto fat people, whom it depicts as being driven, in ways that thin people are assumed not to be, by an out-of-control compulsion to eat. US American culture's projection of the disability drive onto fat people is intensified by racially inflected assumptions about "primitive" versus "civilized" forms of embodiment and by heteronormative constructions of "perversion." Resisting fatphobia therefore necessitates an intersectional analysis of the disability drive, an approach that takes measure of the ways in which repressing the drive reinforces multiple forms of prejudice.The central aim of this thesis is to show that the disability drive is a force that we must understand if we are to effectively challenge the many intersecting and overlapping modalities of oppression that define present-day cultural and social relations. "The Disability Drive" offers an invitation, to scholars and activists in a variety of cultural locations, to consider the ways in which our own beliefs and practices may be implicated in a hegemonic cultural endeavor whose goal is to overcome the disability drive. Because denying the drive results in the reentrenchment of oppressive social structures, I maintain that it is imperative to develop political strategies that resist the impulse to overcome the disability drive.

2-s2.0-85040831449 ; Results are reported on a search for decays of a pseudoscalar A boson into a Z boson and a light scalar h boson, where the Z boson decays into a pair of oppositely-charged electrons or muons, and the h boson decays into bb?. The search is based on data from proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy s=8 TeV collected with the CMS detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb?1. The h boson is assumed to be the standard model-like Higgs boson with a mass of 125 GeV. With no evidence for signal, upper limits are obtained on the product of the production cross section and the branching fraction of the A boson in the Zh channel. C'est dans cette optique que nous nous sommes demandés comment répondre aux objectifs européens à l'horizon 2050. Dans un premier temps, nous avons tenté d'établir les faiblesses inhérentes aux logements vis-à-vis de leurs consommations d'énergies. La moyenne d'âge des bâtiments résidentiels s'est révélée être une caractéristique importante du pays. Nous nous sommes alors interrogés sur la relation entre la vétusté des bâtiments et leur consommation. Sachant que l'utilisation du chauffage dans la consommation des ménages compte pour 70% et que les technologies d'isolation des murs ont commencé à se développer après 1945. Nous en avons conclu que s'attaquer à l'ancienneté du parc résidentiel revenait à saisir l'opportunité de satisfaire les objectifs européens. C'est alors que nous avons envisagé les techniques de rénovation et de démolition pour une remise à niveau de celui-ci. Dès lors, étudier le contexte dans lequel s'inscrit la rénovation et la démolition dans la thématique de l'efficience énergétique était opportun. Cela nous a permis de développer les freins théoriques relatifs à leur adoption pour enfin réaliser une comparaison théorique des deux méthodes. Enfin, nous avons voulu démontrer de manière empirique cette fois, dans quelle mesure chacune des options permettra l'atteinte des objectifs au niveau national et plus précisément, au niveau régional. Notre question de recherche se présentait ainsi ; laquelle des options entre la rénovation et la démolition/reconstruction des bâtiments ayant plus de 30 ans à l'heure actuelle pour 2050 satisferaient les objectifs européens. A nos yeux, cette problématique se justifie par les récents problèmes budgétaires rencontrés en Belgique, au niveau des incitants à la rénovation. En Wallonie par exemple, la popularité des primes et subsides relatifs à l'installation de panneaux photovoltaïques a épuisé le budget y étant consacré. Elles ont d'ailleurs été réformées afin de permettre des travaux de rénovations pour tous les ménages. Ces faits soulignent l'attention particulière accordée par l'Etat à notre problématique. La méthodologie poursuivie dans les différents chapitres s'organise comme suit ; dans le chapitre 1, nous présenterons la vision générale et les objectifs de l'Europe visant à redessiner le modèle énergétique à long terme. Dans le chapitre 2, nous démontrerons l'ancienneté des bâtiments résidentiels belges. Ce constat sera établi communément par l'industrialisation précoce, la périurbanisation ainsi que le retrait progressif de l'État dans la production de nouveaux logements. En outre, nous démontrerons également que la principale source de consommation en énergie du ménage est le chauffage (75%). En partant du postulat qu'un immeuble plus vieux aura profité de technologies moins efficientes en termes d'isolation, agir sur l'état physique du parc de logements semble donc pertinent afin de répondre aux objectifs. Dans le chapitre 3, nous définirons l'efficacité énergétique inhérente au secteur des bâtiments et ses freins. Nous présenterons premièrement les cinq principes d'efficacité énergétique afin de les contextualiser à notre étude. Ensuite, nous nous intéresserons la théorie concernant les investissements en efficience énergétique des bâtiments résidentiels. En outre, un paradoxe semble avoir été confirmé par différents auteurs. En effet, malgré des bénéfices équivalents, sinon supérieurs à d'autres alternatives, ceux-ci ne sont toujours pas adoptés par les ménages. Dans le chapitre 4, nous comparerons d'une manière théorique les deux méthodes : la rénovation et la démolition/reconstruction. Nous discuterons pour chacune, des bâtiments à cibler et des avantages aussi bien financiers, énergétiques et environnementaux qui les accompagnent. Dans le chapitre 5, nous tenterons de déterminer d'une manière empirique laquelle des options entre rénovation et démolition permettra d'atteindre les objectifs de réduction de GES. Pour ce faire, nous créerons un outil basé sur une modélisation des consommations énergétiques des maisons wallonnes, en fonction de leurs années de construction. L'outil permettra l'étude de trois scénarios jusque 2050, visant à comparer les deux alternatives. Le scénario « Statu quo », servira de repère pour comparer la rénovation et la démolition par rapport à la situation où aucune action physique n'est menée sur le parc. Le scénario « Rénovation » et enfin, le scénario « Démolition », dans lesquels nous modéliserons l'évolution physique du parc jusque 2050 pour ensuite projeter l'évolution de la consommation et des émissions de GES. Dans le scénario « statu quo », la consommation augmente de 4% entre 2010 et 2050. Ce constat semble logique. Cependant un taux aussi bas sur une période de 40 ans parait léger aux vues des tendances du secteur entre 1990 et 2010 (+6%). Ce fait est attribuable à la prise en compte des nouvelles normes requises à partir de 2020 via la directive PEB. Les émissions de CO2 sont quant à elles en baisse de 20% sur la période 1990-2050. Cette réduction n'est attribuable qu'aux transitions d'énergies utilisées pour le chauffage. Dans le scénario « rénovation », pour 901 179 bâtiments rénovés entre 2010 et 2050. La consommation énergétique du parc est réduite de 60% (2010-2050) pour une réduction de 70% des émissions de GES sur la période 1990-2050. Près de 50% de cette variation est attribuable aux actions de rénovations. Dans le scénario « démolition » c'est une réduction de 87% de la consommation qui est observable. Les émissions, sont quant à elles réduites de 93% sur la période 1990-2050. La méthode de la démolition permet donc d'atteindre les objectifs. Pour une meilleure interprétation des résultats, nous avons analysé et comparé les coûts financiers, énergétiques et environnementaux des deux méthodes. Les deux options se chargent d'une remise à niveau de 901 179 bâtiments sur une période de 40 ans. L'option de la rénovation nécessite un investissement de près de 100 milliards d'euro, correspondant à un coût de réduction à la tonne equ. CO2 de 512€. L'option de la démolition, reviendrait elle à près de 200 milliards d'euro, correspondant à un coût de 891€ la tonne. En outre, le calcul de la VAN nous apprend que les deux options ne sont pas rentables financièrement, cependant c'est la rénovation qui semble plus avantageuse en ces termes. En outre, nous en avons comparé le coût pour la collectivité, et donc l'impact en termes de pollution. Pour cela, nous avons définit la « rentabilité environnementale » qui a été calculée sur la période d'investissement de 40 ans. En comparant d'une part l'énergie économisée par la rénovation ou la démolition et d'autre part l'énergie dépensée, attribuable à chacune des options. La rénovation entraine une rentabilité environnementale de 640TWh par rapport à la situation où aucune action n'est menée. Pour la démolition, la rentabilité environnementale est de 400TWh. Les deux options restent rentables de ce point de vue cependant, c'est la rénovation qui pèse le moins en termes de pression sur l'environnement. Nous nous sommes alors demandés dans quelle optique les incitants de l'Etat était dirigés vers la rénovation, sans attention plus particulière à la démolition. Nous comprenons à présent, pourquoi l'option de la démolition est bien moins représentée que la rénovation. Elle nécessite des coûts financiers et une consommation sous-jacente importante par rapport aux avantages qu'elle confère. Cependant, bien sélectionner les cibles à démolir en fonctions des entités qui amélioreraient le plus leur économies d'énergies est une option. En effet, dans ce mémoire, l'étude des deux projets a été mené de manière indépendante. La era digital demanda de las instituciones educativas públicas la inclusión de las Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC) en su proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje; esto, para brindar al estudiante ambientes agradables que permitan generarle disposición para el aprendizaje, además con ello coadyuvar a disminuir la brecha social existente entre los estudiantes de instituciones públicas y privadas. La utilización de recursos tecnológicos en la educación pública Colombiana hasta hace poco estaba reducida al área de informática y tecnología y sectorizada en la educación básica secundaria; los proyectos desarrollados por el gobierno para la implementación de las TIC en la educación y en especial para el área de matemáticas son escasos, al igual que los recursos desarrollados para la ejercitación de los contenidos de dicha área, sobre todo en el nivel de básica primaria. La presente investigación surge a partir de la necesidad de lograr que los estudiantes en grado segundo se aprendan las tablas de multiplicar, ya que se ha evidenciado que los estudiantes de grados superiores de educación básica, media e incluso superior no dominan esta información básica y relevante en todo el proceso de aprendizaje de la matemática y de su aplicación en la vida cotidiana. Pero además, también se reconoció que dicho aprendizaje no es fácil de lograr y que necesita de unas condiciones mínimas para que la información quede guardada en la memoria de largo plazo para luego ser utilizada. La creación de ambientes agradables para el niño lo motiva a la realización de actividades que ayudan a la disposición para el aprendizaje, por lo que aprovechando el gusto de los niños por la utilización de los computadores, se buscó un Recurso Educativo Abierto (REA) que sirviera como medio en la ejercitación de las tablas de multiplicar; esto para su uso después del proceso de conceptualización de la operación y construcción de las tablas de multiplicar del 1 y del 2, logrando resultados positivos a favor de su aprendizaje. La Mittel- Osteuropa constitue à la fois un espace géographique et une construction historico-culturelle. Cet espace est formé de plusieurs pays qui ont appartenu à l'empire austro-hongrois et dont la religion catholique majoritaire représente un critère d'unité. La catholicité de cet espace justifie l'intérêt que le Saint-Siège porte à la plupart de ces pays qui deviendront après 1945 des satellites de l'Union soviétique. Les régimes d'inspiration communiste combattront l'autorité spirituelle de Rome, exerceront le contrôle de la vie religieuse et restreindront ainsi les libertés confessionnelles. Face à cette politique antireligieuse et à ce contrôle étroit de la sphère religieuse, le Saint-Siège se devait de réagir et de développer une stratégie de contre-offensive. Dans cette optique, l'Autriche a joué un rôle important dans les orientations de politique étrangère et religieuse du Vatican. Le pays avait encore de nombreux contacts avec les anciens pays de la monarchie des Habsbourg dont la fin était relativement proche. Par ailleurs, Vienne occupe une position avancée en Europe centrale. L'expérience centre-européenne riche de l'Autriche tant sur un plan culturel que linguistique représentait un bien précieux pour la Rome papale, pour qui Vienne pouvait servir de porte d'entrée vers la Mittel- Osteuropa. Le pape Pie XII a parlé d'une mission historique de l'Autriche qui sera considérée comme un phare catholique face à un océan marxiste athée. Malgré cette identité d'intérêts, les relations entre l'Autriche et le Vatican n'ont pas été exemptes de tensions, particulièrement à cause de la controverse sur la remise en vigueur du concordat de 1933. La question du mariage devient un élément de crispation, d'autant plus que la société autrichienne de l'après-guerre était déjà plus sécularisée que celle de l'entre-deux-guerres. L'Autriche saura tirer des avantages spécifiques de la neutralité qui lui a été imposée en échange de sa souveraineté retrouvée. La « neutralité active » va lui permettre de mettre en œuvre une Ostpolitik dans laquelle l'Église prendra une place importante qui apparait clairement dans différents exemples : le voyage d'un théologien de l'université de Graz en Union soviétique en 1955, et plus tard les visites du cardinal Franz König aux épiscopats derrière le rideau de fer mais aussi la création de la fondation Pro Oriente en 1964. La guerre froide fut avant tout un conflit idéologique entre deux systèmes très différents tant sur le plan social que politique et économique, avec le capitalisme ou le libéralisme d'une part, et le communisme ou le socialisme d'autre part. En outre, un autre conflit idéologique est aussi apparu entre le catholicisme romain et le communisme athée, deux systèmes de pensée totalement opposés. Le Saint-Siège devint alors un acteur de la guerre froide. Pie XII défendait l'idée que « le communisme est intrinsèquement pervers et l'on ne peut admettre sur aucun terrain de collaboration avec lui ». Pourtant, il existait par la force des choses des relations entre les communistes et l'Église catholique dans les pays situés derrière le « rideau de fer ». La Curie romaine n'était pas toute entière hostile au dialogue avec les communistes. Abstraction faite d'un climat d'intransigeance doctrinale, il se trouvait aussi des prélats qui pensaient que toutes les portes du dialogue ne devaient pas rester irrémédiablement fermées. Les années d'après-guerre renvoient aussi à une période de renouvellement de la pensée chrétienne sur les plans philosophique, théologique et social. Les tendances à l'ouverture, annonciatrices d'un « printemps religieux », se heurtaient toutefois à la raideur dogmatique de la Curie romaine sous Pie XII. Les rapports des ambassadeurs autrichiens au Saint-Siège de 1946 à 1958/61 fournissent des informations précieuses sur les grandes thématiques du conflit Est-Ouest, qui touchaient d'une part les relations entre le Vatican et l'Autriche, et d'autre part le Vatican et son rapport avec la Mittel- Osteuropa. L'analyse et la présentation de ces rapports constituent la base de ce travail et mettent en évidence le regard que portait le Saint-Siège non seulement sur l'Autriche mais aussi sur la Mittel- Osteuropa pendant cette période de forte tension politique. Avec l'arrivée de Jean XXIII comme pape en 1958 commence un nouveau chapitre de l'Église dans la guerre froide. Le Saint-Siège se transforme alors en acteur de la détente. ; Mittel- and Osteuropa form a geographic region and also a historical and cultural construct. This area consists of several countries that were part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Their predominant Catholic religion represented a criterion of unity. The Catholic character of this region justifies the interest which the Holy See had in the majority of these countries that became, after 1945, satellite states of the Soviet Union. The regimes shaped by the ideology of communism fought against the spiritual supremacy of Rome, control religious life and thus limit the denominational freedoms. The Holy See reacted to these anticlerical policies and to the rigid control over religious spheres by developing counter-strategies. In this respect, Austria has played an important role in conception of the foreign and church policies of the Vatican. It still had numerous contacts in the countries of the former Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, which had ended not such a long time ago. Vienna had a leading role in Central Europe. Austria's numerous cultural and linguistic experiences in Central Europe represented a treasure to Papal Rome intending to use Vienna as a door opener towards Mittel- Osteuropa . Pope Pius XII spoke of Austria's historic mission, which was considered the flagship Catholic country against the "atheist" and "Marxist ocean". Despite this identity of interests, relations between Austria and the Vatican were not free of tensions, particularly due to the controversy of entry into force of the Concordat of 1933. The question of marriage was another disturbing factor, since the post-war Austrian society was already more secularized than the interwar period society. Austria took specific advantages of the neutrality, which it had acquired in exchange for the regained sovereignty as an obligation. The "active neutrality" allowed an Ostpolitik in which the Catholic Church occupied an important place, which became clear by the examples of the journey of a theologian at the University of Graz in the Soviet Union in 1955, much later by the visits of Cardinal Franz König at the episcopates behind the Iron Curtain, but also by the creation of the Pro-Oriente Foundation in 1964. The Cold War was primarily an ideological system conflict between two very different social, political and economic camps, capitalism or liberalism on the one hand and communism or socialism on the other. In addition, there was the ideological conflict between Roman Catholicism and the atheistic Marxism - two completely opposite doctrines. The Holy See became a actor in the Cold War. Pius XII advocated the view that "Communism is intrinsically wrong, and no one may collaborate with it in any undertaking whatsoever". Nevertheless, there were inevitably relations between the Communists and the Catholic Church in the countries behind the "Iron Curtain". The Roman Curia was not unanimously against a dialogue with the Communists either. Apart from a doctrinal intransigence there were prelates who had the opinion that not all doors of dialogue should be closed. The post-war years also reflect a renewal period of Christian thought on a philosophical, theological and social level. These opening trends, - signs of a future "religious spring" -, however, encountered the resistance and the dogmatic rigidity of the Papal Curia under Pope Pius XII. The Austrian ambassadors' reports to the Holy See from 1946 to 1958/61 provide valuable information about the major themes of the East-West conflict, that concerned, on the one hand, the relations between the Holy See and Austria, and on the other hand the Vatican and its relationship with Mittelosteuropa. The analysis and presentation of the reports form the basis of this work and examine the view of the Vatican not only on Austria but also on Mittelosteuropa during this politically highly tense period. The arrival of John XXIII as Pope in 1958 opens a new chapter of the Church in the Cold War. The Holy See turned into an actor of the policy of détente.

Cette étude sémiotique de l'Université de Vilnius s'articule en deux composantes intimement liées: l'objet d'étude d'une part, la méthode mise en oeuvre d'autre part. L'image qui se dégage de l'objet dépend de la méthode descriptive, et la méthode descriptive a été adaptée pour la prise en compte de certains caractères spécifiques de l'objet donné. Par commodité, ces deux composantes seront abordées séparément dans ce résumé.L'objet d'étude est constitué par l'Université de Vilnius, considérée d'un point de vue spatial. Si l'état actuel des bâtiments est directement accessible à l'observation, plusieurs états antérieurs sont décrits par une collection de plans conservés dans les archives du département de l'héritage culturel du Ministère de la Culture Lituanien. La Bibliothèque Nationale de France conserve en outre une collection de projets dessinés pour l'Université de Vilnius au sein de la Compagnie de Jésus. L'analyse sémiotique de ce corpus syncrétique (bâtiments, plans techniques, projets) impose la prise en compte d'acteurs sociaux (enseignants, étudiants, techniciens) et d'acteurs environnementaux (froid, feu, intempéries, vieillissement) dont les interactions avec les lieux sont productrices de sens.Le caractère spécifique d'un tel corpus pourrait laisser croire que l'analyse n'aurait d'intérêt que pour des lecteurs lituaniens motivés par des liens affectifs locaux. Sans remettre en cause les qualités indéniables du corpus retenu, l'utilisation de la méthode sémiotique donne à l'analyse un intérêt méthodologique dont la généralité ne se restreint pas au cas considéré. Pour l'étude des plans de l'Université de Vilnius, l'approche sémiotique est amenée à effectuer un bond qualitatif par rapport aux études initiées en 1974 par le Groupe 107, et l'approche discursive Greimassienne remplace une approche linguistique trop attachée au modèle Hjelmslevien. La consécution diachronique des plans permet de reconnaître plusieurs transformations de l'espace universitaire, chacune d'entre elles distinguant un avant d'un après. L'aménagement des cours autour desquelles se déploient les salles, la concaténation des cours, leur orientation, leurs degrés d'ouverture, permettent de reconnaître des effets de sens successifs qui informent l'opération globale par laquelle l'Université tend à occuper la totalité de l'îlot urbain dans lequel elle est inscrite, et dont elle n'occupait initialement qu'une partie réduite. L'apparition des portiques au dix-septième siècle, leur mode d'implantation, leur organisation modifient profondément l'espace universitaire, tant dans son allure visuelle que dans son fonctionnement pragmatique. La substitution des voûtes aux plafonds change l'allure de l'intérieur des locaux, tout en assurant une meilleure résistance aux éventuels incendies, dont l'occurrence répétée est notée par les archives.L'analyse discursive de l'espace impose la prise en compte d'acteurs sociaux qui agissent sur l'espace ou dans son cadre. Une première distinction différencie les Enseignants des Enseignés. Lors de la fondation de l'Université en 1586, l'enseignement est confié à la Société de Jésus, dont la fondation en 1540 était relativement récente, et dont la vocation à l'enseignement s'affirmait avec force non seulement en Europe, mais aussi au Nouveau Monde récemment découvert. La dissolution de l'Ordre Jésuite en 1772 eut des répercussions directes sur l'Université de Vilnius, en particulier sur l'organisation interne des locaux et sur leur attribution fonctionnelle (on peut noter que la différenciation fonctionnelle des lieux est inscrite sur les plans qui remontent au début du dix-septième siècle). Les espaces dévolus aux étudiants permettent de distinguer un groupe résidant (les internes) et un groupe non résidant (les externes) parmi une population que l'on suppose locale et régionale, car la situation géographique de la Lituanie était relativement périphérique par rapports aux centres du savoir qu'étaient Rome et Paris à la fin du seizième siècle et au début du dix-septième siècle. L'élaboration parisienne des plans pour l'Université de Vilnius témoigne du fait que l'on pensait l'espace comme un moyen d'action (que la sémiotique identifie, selon les cas, comme acte d'énonciation spatiale, ou comme acte de manipulation, au sens technique du terme).Différentes expressions matérielles (alignement des bâtiments sur les directions cardinales, allure italianisante des cours à portiques) véhiculent les valeurs profondes universelles du programme de base de l'Université, qui est celui de la diffusion (transmission) de valeurs abstraites d'un centre vers une périphérie. L'enseignement réservait un large part à la religion catholique, universelle par définition (c'est le Père de l'Église Clément d'Alexandrie qui promeut l'usage du terme grec Katholikos -universel- pour qualifier le Christianisme). Dans l'Italie de la Renaissance, les théoriciens Alberti et Vasari opposent les valeurs universelles de l'Humanisme, tirées de l'Antiquité Classique, aux valeurs particulières caractérisant la production de l'Europe « gothique » du Moyen-Âge, ce dernier étant défini négativement comme ce qui a séparé l'Antiquité de la Renaissance.Considérée comme énoncé spatial, l'architecture apparaît comme un dispositif matériel chargé de modalités destinées à réguler l'action des acteurs qui y accomplissent leurs programmes d'usage. La circulation physique des personnes s'avère jouer un rôle central parmi les actions reconnaissables. Le circuit des visites guidées, opposé à la latitude donnée aux étudiants et aux enseignants, permet de définir un secteur public (moderne) de l'Université, centré sur la bibliothèque, et opposable à un secteur privé centré sur le rectorat. Les portiques, installés aux différents étages pour résoudre des questions de circulation humaine, remplissent simultanément des fonctions d'éclairage et d'isolation thermique. En reconnaissant de telles superpositions fonctionnelles, l'analyse impose la reconnaissance d'acteurs sémiotiques non matériels tels que la lumière et le froid. La poursuite de la même logique d'analyse mène à la reconnaissance du feu et du temps comme acteurs jouant un rôle dans la détermination des formes architecturales, et donc dans la formation de l'énoncé spatial qu'est l'Université.Opposable aux processus évoqués ci-dessus, l'action qui coordonne l'homogénéisation de l'allure de la Grande Cour et celle de la Cour de l'Observatoire ne relève pas de l'énoncé spatial interne, mais d'une énonciation externe: elle témoigne d'une pensée plastique, géométrique, qui poursuit une fin identitaire: son action donne à l'Université, à un moment de son existence, une allure cohérente qui participe à la définition de son identité. Une démarche énonciative comparable est repérable, à l'époque récente, dans la mise en espace de deux espaces garnis de fresques: le vestibule balte et le vestibule grec. Par de tels actes énonciatifs, la direction de l'Université s'adresse à la communauté universitaire, définie ainsi comme un destinataire interne, pour lui transmettre des messages dont les valeurs profondes sont reconnaissables comme l'identité, la cohérence, l'universel, le particulier. D'autres transformations architecturales, en particulier celles qui sont menées au début du dix-neuvième siècle sur la cour de la bibliothèque, développent vis à vis du public extérieur à l'Université, un discours relatif aux savoirs qu'elle développe et diffuse dans la société.Le caractère diachronique du corpus impose de reconnaître des transformations, mettant dès lors l'accent sur des actes énonciatifs spatiaux, puisque tout acte de construction est interprétable comme un acte énonciatif. Ce qui fait beaucoup de place, dans l'analyse, aux effets de sens énonciatifs, aux dépens des effets de sens énoncifs. D'un point de vue méthodologique, ceci apporte la preuve, par l'exemple, de la pertinence de l'utilisation du concept d'énonciation pour une expression spatiale et non verbale. ; Darbe pateikiama Vilniaus universiteto kaip istorinio paminklo semiotinė analizė. Santykis su miestu nagrinėjamas tik tada, kai to reikalauja kuris nors Universiteto elementas, pvz. Šv. Jonų bažnyčios ir Bibliotekos–observatorijos tandemas. Dėmesys sutelkiamas į santykį su erdve kaip paveldu, atpažįstamu Universitete ir jo pastatuose. Įtrauktas į platesnį tautinės tapatybės formavimo kontekstą, figūratyviai šis santykis išreiškia visuomenės geismą pabrėžti įsišaknijimą žemėje ir materijoje, tai, ką galima vadinti autochtonijos geismu griežtąja šio termino prasme.

I) INTRODUCTIONLa nature même du cheminement heuristique et la construction du savoir scientifique, la concurrence entre divers paradigmes structurant la réalité et le débat épistémologique sur les méthodes requises pour son étude, font que tout phénomène puisse être l´objet d´approches cognitives et de théories explicatives complémentaires ou concurrentes, innovantes ou archaïques selon les défenseurs de chaque thèse. La réalité est ainsi décomposée, fragmentée en une multitude de sens et seul un positiviste endurci pourrait prétendre à l´unicité du savoir scientifique. Mais, si tout est ouvert au débat, comment faire sens parmi les différentes approches qui essayent d´étudier et expliquer les phénomènes et processus sociaux, politiques, religieux, etc. ? Si des lectures concurrentes existent et se développent, c´est en particulier car il n´y existe pas de réponse claire à cette question, ou, en tout cas, la réponse ne satisfait nullement une partie de la communauté scientifique.L´étude des mouvements sociaux ne fait pas exception à cette polymorphie épistémologique. Chaque auteur et chaque courant présentant différents postulats destinés à aider à comprendre et expliquer les mouvements sociaux. Ainsi, par exemple, les apôtres de la théorie des ressources défendront des positions différentes sur la nature, causes et conséquences de la mobilisation que les défenseurs de la théorie des structures des opportunités politiques. Néanmoins, ces approches peuvent être appliquées à l´étude du même phénomène.Dans cette optique, l´objectif de ce bref travail est de vérifier comment ces différentes théories peuvent s´appliquer à l´étude du même problème, non pas pour démontrer quelle approche s´ajuste mieux à la problématique en question, mais pour proposer que les problèmes sociaux peuvent être construits et expliqués par différents prismes théoriques.Le cas d´étude choisi sera celui du Mouvement des Sans Terre au Brésil. Après un bref résumé historique sur la genèse et les caractéristiques du mouvement, je tenterai d´appliquer les principales théories pour voir dans quelle mesure peuvent-elles, ou pas, aider à comprendre et expliquer le Mouvement des Sans Terre. II) HISTORIQUE ET CARACTÉRISTIQUES DU MOUVEMENT DES SANS TERRE.Selon leur propre définition, le Mouvement des Travailleurs Ruraux sans Terre (MST) est une organisation de paysans qui luttent pour la terre et la reforme agraire au Brésil. C´est un mouvement de masses autonome, à l´intérieur du mouvement syndical mais sans liens politico-partisans ou religieux . Pour accomplir la reforme agraire, le mouvement avance trois formes d´action principales :a. Organiser les paysans, véritables forces de base du mouvement, en construisant un vaste mouvement de masses qui revendique leurs droits. b. La reforme agraire est une lutte de toute la société. Il faut donc faire prendre conscience à l´ensemble des secteurs sociaux, urbains comme agraires, que la reforme implique des transformations politiques, économiques et sociales qui bénéficieront à toute la société. c. Développer toute forme de pression nécessaire pour garantir que le gouvernement déclenchera le processus de reforme agraire. Parmi les formes de pression ont peut citer les marches, les audiences publiques ou les occupations des latifundios.Mais le MST n´est pas un mouvement foncièrement nouveau dans l´histoire de la lutte pour la terre au Brésil. Trois antécédents historiques ont précédé et influencé sa genèse. Entre 1950 et 1964 trois organisations paysannes avec des revendications agraires se développent (Harnecker, 2003 :19) :1. Les ligues paysannes se forment en 1945, réunissant paysans et métayers tentant de résister à l´expulsion de leurs terres et au régime salarié. Ces ligues foisonnent dans tout les Etats et dépendaient directement du parti communiste. Mais, lors de la prohibition du parti communiste en 1947, les Ligues sont fortement réprimées. S´ensuit une période difficile jusqu´à leur disparition en 1964 lors du putsch militaire. Les ligues ont été influencées fortement par les idéologies et les partis de gauche. 2. En 1954, le Parti Communiste (suite au retour aux affaires), dans une volonté d´unir les travailleurs paysans et les ouvriers, fonde l´Ultab (Union des agriculteurs et travailleurs agricoles) afin de coordonner l´action des différentes associations paysannes. 3. Enfin, le Master (mouvement des travailleurs sans terre) eut une portée très limitée (Etat du Rio Grande do Sul). Il disparut également avec l´avènement des militaires au pouvoir.On constate donc que le mouvement paysan ne résista pas à la forte répression exercée à leur égard par le pouvoir militaire dans les premières années de vie du régime. A coté de la répression physique, les militaires mirent sur pied une loi fédérale, Le Statut de la Terre, avec la volonté de démobiliser les paysans et de limiter le débat national sur la question agraire. Cette loi réglementait la possession, l´occupation et le morcèlement des terres (Fernandes, 1996).Il fut nécessaire un assouplissement progressif de la dictature vers la fin des années 70 et début 80 pour voir l´émergence et la création du MST. Celui-ci est le produit d´un triple contexte particulier sur le plan économique, sociopolitique et idéologique (Harnecker, 2003 :23) :a) Le contexte économique est marqué à partir des années 60 par une rapide modernisation capitaliste et mécanisation du travail et de l´exploitation agricole dans le but de dynamiser une production destinée en sa majorité à l´exportation. Cette logique, prônée à partir des années 60 par la CEPAL et sous l´influence de travaux de Raúl Prebisch, cherchait à mettre en place le Modèle Substitutif des Importations et où les devises reçues servaient à financer le développement du secteur industriel. Cependant, cette politique de modernisation eut des conséquences graves pour les paysans, métayers et petits producteurs. La production se déplaçait des cultures traditionnelles vers des cultures à haut rendement et faible main d´œuvre, comme le soja. Les paysans sans terre et sans emploi émigrèrent vers les villes qui n´embauchaient que très peu suite à la crise économique de la fin des années 70, ou vers des nouvelles zones à coloniser. Mais ces nouvelles terres à coloniser manquaient des conditions nécessaires (infrastructure, peu de moyens de production, absence d´aide sociale, etc.) permettant aux paysans de vivre de leur terre. Au fur et à mesure se développèrent des mouvements de contestation et résistance qui formèrent les premières bases du MST. b) Deux processus marquèrent fortement le contexte sociopolitique. Le premier fut le processus de démocratisation entamé à la fin des années 70 suite à l´échec du "miracle économique" Brésilien. Le deuxième facteur fut la syndicalisation du combat rural, qui s´organisa à partir des années 80 et en résistance aux syndicats officiels, cooptés par le pouvoir. Le mouvement syndical de combat, fondé sur les bases de la lutte sociale, fut l´un des premiers supporters du naissant MST. c) Le contexte idéologique fut fortement influencé par le rôle de l´église catholique et des pastorales ecclésiastiques. On prônait la théologie de la libération et les prêtres incitaient les paysans à s´organiser et à lutter pour leur salvation sur cette terre.Ces trois contextes conduisent de la période de gestation du mouvement à partir de 1978 (où se multiplient les actions de certains groupes paysans qui réussissent à se faire octroyer certaines terres par les autorités), à la fondation institutionnelle du MST en janvier 1984. Lors de la première rencontre nationale des travailleurs sans terre du Brésil, plus de 100 représentants de 13 Etats et divers dirigeants syndicaux étaient présents à cette réunion. Le mouvement se voulait un mouvement autonome de masses qui lutte pour la terre et la reforme agraire. Introduction:The Bachelor of Nursing program, in an answer to international policies and strengthen links with the population. It has in its educational program the subject of Nursing Practice in Community Health, its students and teachers identify health risks in the community, they conducted a diagnosis of health, This is the first step in the process for planning a health intervention. The problems and needs of the population are factors and it has influence positively and / or negatively on the health status of the community. Methods and Materials:We conducted a field's investigation, a diagnosis of health in the community of TheBotho, in the municipality of San Agustin Tlaxiaca, Hidalgo. We identified risk factors of health. Results:BothoTownshiphas 352 of population, whom 193 are men and 159 women, representing 1.6% of population of the municipality of San Agustin Tlaxiaca, Hidalgo. The population of this town is rural and it shows an average degree of marginalization. The people have a range between from 20 to 30 years old, indicating that most of the population is economically active. The community has 22 professionals, with 6 people who made technologic career, 40 people have completed their high school, and 158 have elementary school. The water is carried in tubes to their house, rainwater is available and also through pipes. For human consumption, they use purification water, they always refer to consume treated drinking water. Sanitation in this community is not a common practice, there is a good waste management and also lacks entirely with access to public services for lighting, paving, and drainage and sanitation service system. The community has a Medical Home, which is staffed by a community health promoter. This person measure and record the blood pressure, injections. He/she provides of glucose testing and cures. For the supply of drugs, the town has a pharmacy at the suburbs of the community. The economically active population is 100 persons of both sexes; the minimum wage is 64 pesos per day. The economic activities of the population are: Trade, livestock, mainly agriculture. 96% of population always cleans their teeth and the results are 4% often clean their teeth only 1% said occasionally, so most of them have good oral hygiene habits. 50% of the elderly population has chronic degenerative diseases (diabetes and hypertension). 80% of women of childbearing age have definitive method of family planning. 4% of the population regards drinking alcohol and 2% of the population smoke. Conclusion and discussion:The recognition, protection and guarantee of human rights, including the right to health to the people, these rights have to go through a critical state and its social and political challenge exclusionary and hegemonic discourse of neoliberal policy of human rights; The same towns and communities as this study, must fight every day to make fundamental rights a reality and not harmed their health. Decision makers, planners and implementers of social policy, we must work for the benefit of the construction of an urgent intersectional in health policy with the participation of all. ; Introducción:El Programa de la Licenciatura en Enfermería, para dar respuesta a políticas Internacionales y fortalecer la vinculación con la sociedad, dentro de su programa educativo se encuentra ubicada la asignatura de Práctica de Enfermería en la Salud Comunitaria, en donde los alumnos y docentes identifican riesgos de salud de la comunidad, mediante la elaboracióndel diagnóstico de salud, el cual es el primer paso en el proceso de planificación de una intervención sanitaria, mediante el análisis de los problemas y las necesidades de cada población así como los factores que influyen positiva y negativamente sobre dicho nivel de salud. Métodos y materiales:Se realizó una investigación de campo, un diagnóstico de salud en la comunidad de El Botho, perteneciente al municipio de San Agustín Tlaxiaca, Hidalgo. Se identificaron factores de riesgo para la salud. Resultados:El municipio del Botho cuenta con una población total de 352 habitantes, de éstos 193 son hombres y 159 mujeres, representando el 1.6% de la población total del municipio de San Agustín Tlaxiaca, Hidalgo. La población de esta localidad es totalmente rural y muestra un grado de marginación media. Los habitantes están en un rango de edad de entre los 20 a 30 años, indicando que la mayoría de la población es económicamente activa. La comunidad cuenta con 22 profesionales, con 6 personas que realizaron carrera técnica, 40 personas han concluido el bachillerato, 104 la secundaria y 54 la primaria. El abastecimiento de agua es por agua entubada dentro de la vivienda y fuera de la misma, disposición de agua de lluvia y también por medio de pipas. Para el consumo humano, recurren a la potabilización del agua, por lo que refieren consumir siempre agua potable tratada. El saneamiento en esta comunidad no es una práctica común, no existe un buen manejo de desechos y tampoco cuenta en su totalidad con acceso a los servicios públicos de alumbrado, pavimentación, el sistema drenaje y servicio de limpia. La comunidad cuenta con una Casa de Salud, que es atendida por un promotor de salud comunitario, que presta servicios de medición y registro de la presión arterial, aplicación de inyecciones, dotación de vida suero oral, medición de glucosa y curaciones. Para el abastecimiento de medicamentos se cuenta con una farmacia a la salida de la comunidad. La población económicamente activa es de 100 personas de ambos sexos, el salario mínimo es de 64 pesos mexicanos al día. Las actividades económicas que realiza la población son: Comercio, ganadería, agricultura principalmente. Un 96% realiza siempre la limpieza de sus dientes, frecuentemente. Del 4% solo el 1% respondieron limpiar sus dientes ocasionalmente, por lo que en su mayoría tienen buenos hábitos higiénicos bucales. El 50% de la población de la tercera edad presenta enfermedades crónicas degenerativas (diabetes, hipertensión). El 80% de las mujeres en edad fértil cuentan con método definitivo de planificación familiar (OTB). El 4% de la población refiere ingerir bebidas alcohólicas y el 2% de la población fuma. Conclusión y discusión:El reconocimiento, protección y garantía de los derechos humanos, como el derecho a la salud a los pueblos, tendrá que pasar por un cuestionamiento crítico al Estado, sus políticas sociales y excluyentes, así como al discurso hegemónico de la política neoliberal de los derechos humanos; Los mismos pueblos y comunidades como la de este estudio, deben de luchar día a día para lograr que sus derechos fundamentales sean una realidad y no se vea perjudicada su salud. El Estado es fundamental en el cumplimiento. El debe garantizar protección y promoción del derecho a la salud, el se ha comprometido a garantizarlo, sin embargo, para saltar el vacío entre lo que se da en la teoría y se hace en la práctica, es necesario el promover y exigir el justo derecho a la salud, tanto entre los pueblos y comunidades como con la sociedad civil. Tomadores de decisiones, planeadores y ejecutores de las políticas sociales, debemos trabajar en beneficio de la construcción de una urgente política intersectorial en salud con la participación de todos

During the Battle of Hong Kong fought in December 1941, Wong Nai Chung Gap was a major battlefield as it was a strategic location. Like almost all battlefields in this Battle, however, the defensive military installations within the subject area, most in ruins nowadays, have never been professionally surveyed with the purpose of mapping the military buildings of the battlefield apart from those reported in Lai et al (2011) to better fathom the flow of battle. Indeed, the only professionally surveyed military relics were those by Lai and Ho for Devil's Peak and Lai, Davies, Ching, Tan and Wong (2011) for Shing Mun Redoubt. All existing historical researches suffer from a lack of accurate mapping information, if at all, essential for understanding the conduct of military hostilities. This thesis illustrates how an accurate exercise locating and mapping of three pillboxes (PB 1, PB2 and PB3), among other war relics in the vicinity, near Wong Nai Chung Gap in Hong Kong Island was performed; and addresses historical and conservation issues using direct on-site measurement by professional mapping techniques. GIS was used as the key tool for analysis and interpretation. The survey results were then used to identify the configurations and distribution of the war relics in Wong Nai Chung area and to verify the authenticity of war diary records provided by the defender on the battle. Precise arcs of fire of key permanent defence structures in relation to the surrounding topography were accurately determined. They help explain and reconstruct a prominent battle that took place some 70 years ago. It should provide a solid referent for war historians, relics' enthusiasts as to how the state-of-art GIS technology can be used in probing key intriguing historical questions. Those addressed in this thesis, in relation particularly to three pillboxes, the observation post (OP) on the summit of Jardines' Lookout and Stanley Gap, are: (1) Did PB 1 really kill that many enemies? (2) Why didn't PB2 report to have fired at enemies along the Ride or Wong Nai Chung Gap? (3) Why didn't PB 3 fire at all? (4) What were the daylight vision of the three PBs and the OP on the 18/19 December 1941? (5) What was the defence philosophy of the pillboxes? (6) Was the Japanese portrait on the battle correct in terms of details? (7) What was the role of the OP on the summit of Jardine's Lookout? (8) Were Brigade Lawson's Headquarters protected by any PB? (9) What were the locations of the military installations now destroyed or buried? (10) What were the locations of the military installations near Stanley Gap? To address the ten questions above, three working hypotheses are established for questions (1) to (3) while accurate on site measurements could be applied in finding the rest of the questions. For question (1), the hypothesis is: PB1 could not kill that many enemies because of faulty or unsatisfactory design. It would be refuted if the beaten zones of machine guns mounted inside the pillboxes could cover the major military strongholds of Wong Nai Chung Gap area. The hypothesis for question (2) is: PB2 did cover all routes of attack but only no information about fires was reported in the war diary. It would be refuted if PB2 had any blind-spot in shooting. The hypothesis for question (3) is: the beaten zones of PB3 could cover most of the important fighting areas, e.g. PB1; PB2; the Ride across the valley; the West Brigade HQ as well as the upper reach of Blue Pool Road (then existing) etc. It would be refuted if PB3 had certain blind-spots. The questions from (4) to (10) could be decoded through the onsite accurate measurements. This thesis is an empirical analysis of how the professional mapping techniques are used to plug some gaps in the history of the battle of Wong Nai Chung. The aim of the thesis is to find out some enigma by means of on-site and desk top study. This thesis reports on a number of key findings: the main conclusions drawn from this research showed that, first, PB1 could cover the major military strongholds and both PB2 and PB3 had a certain areas of shooting blind-spots. Nevertheless, the OP together with the three PBs, could cover most of the southern side of today's Deep Water Bay Road; the eastern side of Repulse Bay Road as well as the almost the entire northern dam of Wong Nai Chung Reservoir except the southern side of the reservoir. The results of the thesis show that the firing arcs of PB3 could not cover the major fighting areas in 19th December 1941 but it could have, apart from delayed the capture of the Wong Nai Chung Gap by the Japanese, inflicted heavier casualties on the enemies because it covered the Police Knoll and the reservoir dam which formed part of the Stanley Gap Road. Secondly, by identifying the surviving war relics in Wong Nai Chung Gap, this thesis should contribute to better conservation research through on-site surveying of these features in a relative large scale which are not documented in any previous literature before. Upon finding out the accurate geographical locations of these surviving war relics, we could appreciate the rest of our research questions; i.e. the truthfulness of the inferred position on the Sir Cecil's Ride below PB2 from the barbed wire stand which shown in the Japanese portrait; Brigade Lawson's Headquarters was indeed protected by PB1 but not PB2; there are bunkers and water closets still remain intact in Stanley Gap. In addition, this thesis offers constructive thoughts on how mapping techniques could be contributed to the conservation of historic war heritages. Overall, the findings of this research proved that on-site measurements, together with contemporary GIS technology, can be used as a major tool of explaining the mysterious matters during the war. This thesis comprises of five chapters and the style follows the norms in Kate L. Turabian. Chapter 1 is the introduction. It serves as a general introduction to the thesis. It will commence by a historic review of the battle of Hong Kong in 1941. By describing the background of the battle of Wong Nai Chung Gap, it will points out some enigmatic problems found in war diaries. This chapter states the aims and hypotheses of this study and identify the scope of the research. Specifically, it raises ten specific research questions. Chapter 2 is a literature review. It shows that the "state of art" of battle history is one of written records, collection of photos and small scale sketches without the help of accurate mapping inputs. Where plans/maps were produced in history texts, they were in small scale and hence of limited use for forensic or conservation purposes. In other words, historians are handicapped by a lack of sensitivity to the importance of spatial analysis. This review shows the significance and potential contribution of land surveying in military heritage research and policy development. Chapter 3 describes the methodology of the land survey conducted. It commences by examining the theoretical basis as well as the principles of the technology used and will also present how mapping as well as the state-of-the-art Geographical Information Systems (GIS) techniques were actually used to perform terrain analysis based on the accurate surveyed positions of the war relics. Ten hypotheses in relation to the questions specified in Chapter 1 are formulated. Chapter 4 provides the survey findings and analysis for the ten hypotheses. Chapter 5 is the conclusion. This chapter summarises the thesis and discusses its methodological limitations and significance for heritage research and policy. España ha sido uno de los principales destinos elegidos en los proyectos migratorios internacionales de los ciudadanos que han partido de Ecuador. Las similitudes culturales y las perspectivas de empleo han permitido contrarrestar la distancia geográfica que separa ambos países. El éxito de unos atrajo a otros, entrando en funcionamiento los postulados de la teoría de redes. De esta forma, especialmente a partir de la década de 1990, los ecuatorianos se han convertido en uno de los colectivos de mayor peso en España, ocupando puestos en la construcción, las actividades agrícolas y el sector servicios, entre ellos en el servicio doméstico. Con el paso del tiempo se han ido consolidando en el país. Los procesos extraordinarios de regularización aprobados por los distintos Gobiernos españoles han contribuido a promocionar su seguridad jurídica en España, aunque en algunos casos solo ha sido de manera temporal. También han aprovechado y contribuido al dinamismo mostrado por la economía española, que se traducía en una importante creación de empleo. En base a esta estabilidad han adquirido viviendas y se han acogido en muchos casos a la reagrupación familiar, trayendo a sus parejas, descendientes y ascendientes. Estos procesos dotaron al colectivo de una mayor vocación de permanencia en España, reforzado aún más si cabe por el hecho de que en muchos casos se han nacionalizado español. No obstante lo suelen hacer sin renunciar a su nacionalidad de origen y con el objeto de aprovechar los beneficios, la seguridad jurídica, que les reporta el ser considerado ciudadano de la Unión Europea. La situación descrita de consolidación y crecimiento de la colonia ecuatoriana ha encontrado un punto de inflexión en los últimos años. La crisis económica que atraviesa España ha provocado que parte de la población ecuatoriana haya perdido su empleo. Los propios españoles vuelven a tomar el camino de la emigración ante el deterioro de la situación sociolaboral y la falta de perspectivas profesionales. En esta línea el Gobierno de España ha puesto en marcha diversos programas de retorno voluntario dirigidos a los extranjeros que se encuentran en el país, al objeto de relajar la presión sobre el mercado de trabajo y reducir la competencia laboral. En un primer momento estos programas de retorno han tenido poco eco entre sus destinatarios. Sin embargo, la prolongación en el tiempo de la recesión, e incluso la acentuación la misma, ha llevado a que muchos hayan agotado las prestaciones por desempleo a que tenían derecho por el tiempo trabajado. Como resultado carecen de recursos económicos para hacer frente a las hipotecas que suscribieron para adquirir sus viviendas, son desahuciados y las perspectivas laborales no son nada halagüeñas a corto plazo. Ante esta situación el regreso al país de origen comienza a ganar adeptos. A ello hay que sumar que al contrario de lo que sucede en España, la economía de Ecuador se muestra dinámica, crece, y el Gobierno del país adopta también medidas para hacer atractivo el regreso de sus nacionales. Entre las citadas medidas se encuentra el Plan Tierra, dirigido a realizar una reforma agraria y dotar de tierras a la población para su puesta en valor. La presente comunicación se centrará en analizar la incidencia de este Plan entre los ecuatorianos que se encuentran en España. Este documento recoge parte del trabajo realizado por los autores en la ejecución del proyecto I+D+i Gestión colectiva de contrataciones agrícolas en origen y sus soportes territoriales en España y Marruecos: propuesta de concatenación de campañas e implicaciones en el codesarrollo. Cultural similarities and employment prospects have offset the geographical distance separating the two countries. The success of some attracted others to come on stream the tenets of network theories. In this way, especially since the 1990s, Ecuatorians have become one of the groups with more weight in Spain, holding positions in construction, farming and the service sector, including domestic servants. With the pass of time they have been consolidated in the country. The extraordinary regularization process approved by the various Spanish governments have helped to promote legal security in Spain, although in some cases has only been temporary. They have also benefited and contributed to the dynamism of the Spanish economy, which resulted in significant job creation. Based on this stability they have acquired properties and have been welcomed in many cases of family reunion, bringing their partners, descendants and ascendants. These processes endowed the collective greater degree of permanence in Spain, enhanced even further by the fact that in many cases have been nationalized as Spanish. Notwithstanding usually they do not renounce their nationality of origin in order to reap the benefits, legal security, reporting them to be considered a citizen of the European Union. The described situation of consolidation and growth of the Ecuadorian colony has found a turning point in recent years. The economic crisis in Spain has caused part of the Ecuadorian population to lose their jobs. The Spaniards themselves retake the path of emigration to the deterioration of social and working conditions and lack of career prospects. In this vein the Government of Spain has implemented various voluntary return programs targeting foreigners in the country, in order to ease the pressure on the labor market and reduce labor competition underway. At first these return programs have had little echo among the recipients. However, the extension in time of recession, and even stress it, it has led many to have exhausted unemployment benefits they were entitled for the time worked. As a result, they lack the financial resources to meet the mortgages signed to acquire their homes, they are hopeless and job prospects are not bright in the short term. In this situation they return to the home country begins to gain followers. To this must be added that, contrary to what happens in Spain, Ecuador's economy is dynamic, is growing, and the government of the country also takes steps to appeal the return of their nationals. Among those measures is the Land Plan, aimed at making land reform and give land to the population for its value. This communication will focus on analyzing the impact of this plan among Ecuadorians who are in Spain. This document contains part of the work done by the authors in the project implementation R & D + i collective management of agricultural contracts in origin and territorial supports Spain and Morocco: concatenation proposed campaigns and co-development implications. La Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad El Bosque, encausa la formación de odontólogos integrales, fundamentada en una concepción holística coherente con el Modelo propuesto por Engel en 1977, e implementado como modelo biopsicosocial y cultural. Esta tesis se enmarca en la línea de investigación del doctorado: "Bioética y Educación". Se realiza un análisis de los conflictos y de los dilemas que surgen de las tensiones que se generan entre el Enfoque de formación que se nutre de la bioética, y la problemática que se suscita, en el desarrollo de las prácticas formativas del estudiante de Odontología, a causa de las dificultades que enfrentan los estudiantes para conseguir pacientes y cumplir con los objetivos de formación clínica. Si bien esta disconformidad se reporta en la revisión de literatura relacionada con la problemática planteada en esta tesis, parece todavía ser un aspecto de poca trascendencia, en los espacios de formación de las facultades de Odontología del país, en razón a que las clínicas en las que se lleva a cabo estas prácticas se encuentran en un ambiente educativo y no de prestación de servicios. Este estudio se realizó bajo la metodología empírico-exploratoria de carácter cualitativo en tres fases. En la primera fase, se revisaron los programas académicos con el fin de determinar si en estos existe apropiación del modelo biopsicosocial y la bioética, en tanto que son dos áreas que se han estructurado de forma transcurricular. En la segunda fase se realizaron cuestionarios autodireccionados a docentes, estudiantes y pacientes, con el fin de indagar sobre la apropiación del enfoque de formación biopsicosocial cultural y bioético y si se generan tensiones o conflictos que lleven a desvirtuar el modelo. En la tercera fase se estructuraron 6 grupos focales para un total de 30 participantes: 10 docentes, 10 estudiantes y 10 pacientes, para profundizar en los hallazgos encontrados en la segunda fase y explorar la posible existencia de conflictos que conlleven a la conformación de dilemas en las prácticas formativas docente asistencial. Entre los hallazgos más destacados en la revisión de los programas se vislumbró que el área comunitaria es el que tiene mayor claridad en la aplicación del enfoque de formación Biopsicosocial Cultural y Bioético. Los docentes y estudiantes de la Facultad de Odontología reconocen con suficiencia el modelo Biopsicosocial, el cual es concebido como un modelo holístico de calidad de vida, como un modelo de atención centrado en el paciente y como un paradigma de formación de carácter integral. Se evidenciaron tensiones entre el modelo de formación bajo el enfoque biopsicosocial propuesto por la Universidad El Bosque y el modelo de atención en las clínicas odontológicas, en razón a la presencia de conflictos en la relación docente- pacienteestudiante debida principalmente a la exigencia académica del cumplimiento de requisitos prácticos durante la atención de los pacientes, conflictos que pueden desencadenar en dilemas de diversas categorías. Esta realidad invita a un análisis juicioso al interior de los programas de Odontología del país que determine la necesidad imperiosa de plantear desde la bioética nuevas propuestas de formación integral, enmarcadas en la construcción de consensos que permitan dar un abordaje bioético, plural, multidisciplinario, social y humanístico en los espacios reales del sistema de prestación de servicios en salud, en donde se acojan y se contemplen unas prácticas docencia-servicio dirigidas a la solución de la necesidad real del paciente y a la vez, que el estudiante en formación guiado por su tutor colabore en dar cobertura en salud a la población. Se proponen lineamientos para una recontextualización del enfoque de formación biopsicosocial teniendo como eje transversal la bioética. Se plantea una integración de las áreas a partir de núcleos temáticos que le permitan al estudiante asociar y aplicar progresivamente los conocimientos básicos adquiridos en los contextos de las prácticas formativas intra y extramurales, mediante un modelo de atención centrado en el paciente a partir de una pedagogía crítica que asegure el aprendizaje significativo y la creación de conciencia social. Se invita a establecer diálogos para una construcción colectiva desde la autorreflexión de otros programas de Odontología, que lleven a repensar y redimensionar la formación de los futuros Odontólogos. Por último, se hace un especial énfasis en que ésta es una responsabilidad que compete no sólo a las Universidades sino también a los Ministerios de Salud y de Educación, de tal forma que se establezcan acuerdos y compromisos que tiendan a mejorar las condiciones de formación de los futuros Odontólogos, permitiéndoles asumir como propia una perspectiva ética para la humanización de la atención, ejercer con responsabilidad social y colaborar con el sistema de salud, ampliando su cobertura. ; Doctor en Bioética ; Doctorado ; The Dental School at El Bosque University, bases its duty to be on a comprehensive training of dentists with a holistic philosophy consistent with a biopsychosocial model proposed by Engel (1977) and implemented as biopsychosocial and cultural approach at El Bosque University (Escobar Triana, 1991; Ovalle, 2010). This research, based on a qualitative model, was conducted with the participation of students, teachers and patients, attending dental clinics at the university. Similarly, elements of analysis arising from the review of curricula were integrated. This thesis is part of the doctoral research line : "Bioethics and Education" as an analysis of conflict and / or Bioethical dilemmas that arise during the practical training of dental students, something demonstrated in the literature as a problem which has not been given the importance. Deserves discussion and make a true diagnosis within dentistry programs in the country, in order to determine whether there is a need to put forward new proposals for training in teaching- assistance practices which come to improve the health and quality of life impacting social responsibility to the Colombian population. This study was conducted under an exploratory qualitative methodology in three phases in which in a first stage academic programs were reviewed in order to determine the ownership right of the biopsychosocial model and bioethics. A second phase in which there were made autodireccional questionnaires that included teachers, students, patients and a third phase by focus groups with teachers, students and patients to determine at a glance bioethics existence of tensions, conflicts and dilemmas between the training model under the biopsychosocial approach and cultural and the training practice teaching assistance . Among the most important findings is envisioned that the community area is the one that most clearly has the training approach. Teachers and students of the dental school recognized with suffiency the biopsichosocial model, which is conceived as a holistic quality of life model, as a model of care focused on the patient and as a paradigm of integral charácter formation Among the most significant findings was glimpsed, in vocational training practices are tensions between academic rigor with practical compliance requirements for patient care and the training approach involving humanized and comprehensive care, giving rise a bioethical dilemma. Guidelines are proposed for a recontextualization of the biopsychosocial approach model having as axis bioethics. There is a proposal of an integration of the areas starting from thematic cores that allow student associate and progressively apply the basic knowledge acquired in the contexts of formative practices intra and outside through a model of care focused on the patient from a critical pedagogy ensuring meaningful learning and social awareness inviting to a collective construction and an invitation for self-reflection of other Dental programs, to rethink and reshape the formation of the dentists, along with the Government sectors as the Ministry of Health and Welfare as well as Education. All this, in order to establish agreements and commitments with the purpose of improving the training of future dentists, allowing them to take as their own, ethical perspective for the humanization of care, exercise social responsibility and work with the health care system to expand its coverage.

The current work is devoted to estimating the term structure of interest rates based on a generalized optimization framework. To x the ideas of the subject, we introduce representations of the term structure as they are used in nance: yield curve, discount curve and forward rate curve. Yield curves are used in empirical research in nance and macroeconomic to support nancial decisions made by governments and/or private nancial institutions. When governments (or nancial corporations) need fundings, they issue to the public (i.e. the market) debt securities (bills, bonds, notes, etc ) which are sold at the discount rate at the settlement date and promise the face value of the security at the redemption date, known as maturity date. Bills, notes and bonds are usually sold with maximum maturity of 1 year, 10 years and 30 years respectively. Let us assume that the government issues to the market zero-coupon bonds, which provide a single payment at maturity of each bond. To determine the price of the security at time of settlement, a single discount factor is used. Thus, the yield can be dened as the discount rate which makes the present value of the security issued (the zero-coupon bond) equal to its initial price. The yield curve describes the relationship between a particular yield and a bond's maturity. In general, given a certain number of bonds with dierent time to maturity, the yield curve will describe the one-to-one relationship between the bond yields and their corresponding time to maturity. For a realistic yield curve, it is important to use only bonds from the same class of issuer or securities having the same degree of liquidity when plotting the yields. Discount factors, used to price bonds, are functions of the time to maturity. Given that yields are positive, these functions are assumed to be monotonically decreasing as the time to maturity increases. Thus, a discount curve is simply the graph of discount factors for dierent maturities associated with dierent securities. Another useful curve uses the forward rate function which can be deduced from both the discount factor and the yield function. The forward rate is the rate of return for an investment that is agreed upon today but which starts at some time in the future and provides payment at some time in the future as well. When forward rates are used, the resulting curve is referred to as the forward rate curve. Thus, any of these curves, that is, the yield curve, the discount curve or the forward rate curve, can be used to represent what is known as the term structure of interest rate. The shapes that the term structure of interest rates can assume include upward sloping, downward sloping, atness or humped, depending on the state of the economy. When the expectations of market participants are incorporated in the construction of these curves representing the term structure, their shapes capture and summarize the cost of credit and risks associated with every security traded. However, constructing these curves and the choice of an appropriate representation of the term structure to use is not a straightforward task. This is due to the complexity of the market data, precisely, the scarcity of zero-coupon bonds which constitutes the backbone of the term structure. The market often provides coupons alongside market security prices for a small number of maturities. This implies that, for the entire maturity spectrum, yields can not be observed on the market. Based on available market data, yields must be estimated using traditional interpolation methods. To this end, polynomial splines as well as parsimonious functions are the methods mostly used by nancial institutions and in research in nance. However, it is observed in literature that these methods suer from the shape constraints which cause them to produce yield curves that are not realistic with respect to the market observations. Precisely, the yield curves produced by these methods are characterized by unrealistic t of the market data, either in the short end or in the long end of the term structure of interest rate. To ll the gap, the current research models the yield curve using a generalized optimization framework. The method is not shape constrained, which implies that it can adapt to any shape the yield curve can take across the entire maturity spectrum. While estimating the yield curve using this method in comparison with traditional methods on the Swedish and US markets, it is shown that any other traditional method used is a special case of the generalized optimization framework. Moreover, it is shown that, for a certain market consistency, the method produces lower variances than any of the traditional methods tested. This implies that the method produces forward rate curve of higher quality compared to the existing traditional methods. Interest rate derivatives are instruments whose prices depend or are derived from the price of other instruments. Derivatives instruments that are extensively used include the forward rate agreement (FRA) contracts where forward rate is used and the interest rate swap (IRS) where LIBOR rate is used as oating rate. These instruments will only be used to build up the term structure of interest rates. Since the liquidity crisis in 2007, it is observed that discrepancies in basis spread between interest rates applied to dierent interest rate derivatives have grown so large that a single discount curve is no longer appropriate to use for pricing securities consistently. It has been suggested that the market needs new methods for multiple yield curves estimation to price securities consistently with the market. As a response, the generalized optimization framework is extended to a multiple yield curves estimation. We show that, unlike the cubic spline for instance, which is among the mostly used traditional method, the generalized framework can produce multiple yield curves and tenor premium curves that are altogether smooth and realistic with respect to the market observations. U.S. Treasury market is, by size and importance, a leading market which is considered as benchmark for most xed-income securities that are traded worldwide. However, existing U.S. Treasury yield curves that are used in the market are of poor quality since they have been estimated by traditional interpolation methods which are shape constrained. This implies that the market prices they imply contain lots of noise and as such, are not safe to use. In this work, we use the generalized optimization framework to estimate high-quality forward rates for the U.S. Treasury yield curve. Using ecient frontiers, we show that the method can produce low pricing error with low variance as compared to the least squares methods that have been used to estimate U.S. Treasury yield curves. We nally use the high-quality U.S. Treasury forward rate curve estimated by the generalized optimization framework as input to the essentially ane model to capture the randomness property in interest rates and the time-varying term premium. This premium is simply a compensation that is required for additional risks that investors are exposed to. To determine optimal investment in the U.S. Treasury market, a two-stage stochastic programming model without recourse is proposed, which model borrowing, shorting and proportional transaction cost. It is found that the proposed model can provide growth of wealth in the long run. Moreover, its Sharpe ratio is better than the market index and its Jensen's alpha is positive. This implies that the Stochastic Programming model proposed can produce portfolios that perform better than the market index.

El tema al ser claro y preciso es determinante sobre Modelo de aseguramiento de la calidad en la educación básica como contribución a la educación del buen vivir en el Colegio Pedro Carbo, Unidad Educativa Verbo Divino e Instituto Tecnológico Superior Angel Polibio Chaves del Cantón Guaranda, período 2011". La descripción del problema parte de lo evidente que es la educación al no disponer de ejes articulados a ningún plan nacional como tampoco de cada región en cuanto se refiere a la ejecución de políticas de Estado, lo que ocasiona que se continúe preparando hombres que no aporten a la sociedad, debido a la baja calidad de la educación, evidenciándose en la desarticulación del proceso de aprendizaje con el estudiante. El no disponer de estándares de calidad en la educación básica ha representado un indicador que permanentemente obstaculiza la evaluación, pues ello repercute notablemente a que los educandos se inmersen en los requerimientos del Estado a través de sus diferentes secretarias que le compete gerenciar la educación. En la Justificación demuestra su importancia debido a que procura identificar el modelo más adecuado para el aseguramiento de la calidad de la educación en la perspectiva de fortalecer la preparación de los futuros bachilleres y la factibilidad de la investigación se observa desde la tarea desarrollada que permite poner a disposición de las autoridades de turno en la educación esta herramienta de gestión, con la originalidad de este trabajo está evidenciado en la generación del Modelo que permitirá alcanzar el aseguramiento de la calidad la novedad científica se evidencia con el Modelo que asegurará la calidad de la educación, que permitirá acrecentar los conocimientos adquiridos y estará fortalecida con los argumentos técnicos metodológicos que contribuyó el programa de Maestría es por lo tanto viable esta investigación, desde la inclusión del sujeto, el objeto que está plenamente delimitado, y el aporte sustantivo de los medios que se emplearon para la realización del trabajo y por ende alcanzar los fines que perseguimos. 8 Los objetivos tanto general como específicos permitieron establecer claramente como se alcanzaron los resultados, con la generación de la hipótesis se plasmó su comprobación de las encuestas aplicadas a profesores y profesoras de las entidades educativas investigadas, apoyadas en las variables y su operacionalización.
