This monograph traces the intellectual history of the international legal personality of individuals. It demonstrates how many international lawyers still rely on the idea that states are the only subjects of international law, whereas practice shows that the question of the international legal rights and duties of any entity is strictly empirical.

Sixty-five men and fifty-one women took part in a study of attitudes toward feminism. The question of attitude similarity mediated error in perceived attractiveness was addressed, and the relationship between selected personal characteristics and attitudes toward feminism was assessed. Results confirmed that men and women view people with attitudes similar to their own as more attractive. Best predictors of negative attitudes towards feminism among men were conservativism and limited familiarity with feminist issues, whereas among women, trait-anxiety was the best predictor.
Measures of racial attitude, conceptual style, commitment to candidate and to the electoral process, social-political orientation, candidate evaluation, and voting intentions, were administered to white college students in 7 geographical areas shortly before the 1972 Presidential election. Persons intending to vote for Nixon showed significantly more negative racial attitudes, more concrete conceptual functioning, greater commitment to the electoral process, more conservative social-political orientations, and more positive evaluations of Nixon, than did McGovern voters. Subsequent regression and path analyses indicated that only racial attitude and candidate evaluation were strong, direct predictors of voting intentions; the effects of the remaining independent variables appeared to be indirect. These results suggest that the prediction of behavioral intentions becomes more powerful as the attitudinal measures are made more directly relevant to the behavioral act.
Interpersonal relationships are a very important part of the university life of a person. To explore the relationship between interpersonal difficulties and personality traits, a sample of 300 students in the age range of 18-28 years (M=22.04) was taken from different government and private universities. To measure the Machiavellian Personality Tendencies among students an indigenous tool was developed rooted inthe Pakistani culture. Interpersonal Difficulties Scale (Saleem, Ihsan, & Mahmood, 2014) was used. It was revealed that students with high Machiavellian Personality Tendencies have more interpersonal difficulties and Machiavellian Personality Tendencies, gender, family system and birth order are significant predictors of interpersonal difficulties in university students. These results are discussed in the Pakistani cultural context and their implications are stated for future research and therapeutic work.
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the role of supervisor and subordinate personality in high quality supervisor-subordinate (leader-member exchange; LMX) relationships.Design/methodology/approachIn this field study, 142 supervisors drawn from a leadership development program, and 509 of their subordinates, completed a personality survey and reported on the quality of their relationships.FindingsSelf and partner personality (agreeableness and extraversion), and the match between them were predictors of LMX. Consistent with approach/inhibition theory of power, personality traits of relationship partners had a stronger effect when the partner held a position of power (i.e. supervisors) than when the partner was a subordinate.Practical implicationsThe results inform organizational selection by showing the importance of supervisory traits for the formation of high quality supervisor-subordinate relationships. They may also help organizations facilitate the development of high quality supervisory relationships. The findings also suggest that it is critical to consider the balance of power when assessing LMX, along with factors that lead to its development, or benefits that ensue from it.Originality/valueTo date, there is an assumption that certain traits predict the development of high quality relationships between supervisors and subordinates. The results point out the importance of considering the role of power in LMX relationships. The paper shows that the effects of supervisory traits, which are rarely examined in the context of LMX relationships, more strongly predict LMX than do the traits of subordinates.
