This article examines the advocacy tactics of Russian nonprofits. While Russian nonprofits and their activities have been widely researched, specific insight into their use of advocacy tactics remains limited. In this article, we address this gap by broadening the understanding of how Russian nonprofits engage in advocacy. To do so we engage both Mosley's indirect/insider framework and qualitative data collected from health and education nonprofits (HEnonprofits) in three Russian industrial regions. We demonstrate that Russian HEnonprofits, while having access to various advocacy tactics, fail to use them effectively. They are instead used for organizational maintenance and case/client advocacy. In conclusion, we discuss a potential typology of advocacy tactics in Russia, the usefulness of Mosley's framework in this context and the implications of the failure to advocate for democratization within the Russian Federation.

This is a personal account of the past six years of my life after I was convicted of a serious criminal offence and imprisoned in the United States of America. I describe the reasons for my arrest and my time in detention, where I discovered that I was pregnant. The article is, however, mainly about the impact my criminal record has had on my life and on my employment opportunities in particular. Acquiring a serious criminal conviction seriously damaged my opportunities to secure employment suited to my skills and capabilities. I conclude with a discussion of the STRETCH project I set up, which aims to widen participation of offenders and ex-offenders in museums and galleries.

Background: Regional variations in rates of drug use have been described previously in relation to adolescents. However, reasons for these differences are not clear. Previous publications pointed to higher rates of drug use by Glasgow children compared to children living in Newcastle upon Tyne. This paper explores the hypothesis that a higher rate of drug use in Glasgow is due to higher availability there. Method: School surveys were conducted in Glasgow and Newcastle upon Tyne on a total of 2,318 children aged 10–12. These concerned aspects of behaviour, lifestyle, family life and drug use. Findings: The data indicate that the higher rate of drug use by Glasgow children was attributable to greater opportunities for children to gather at leisure centres and other venues and activities facilitating exposure to more drug-experienced young people.
