This article examines the evolution of the threat perception and security conceptions in German foreign policy since the end of the Cold War within the framework of the Euro-Atlantic security architecture. It is argued that German security policy continues to be characterized by a comprehensive and preventive approach, which includes a diffuse threat perception, a norm-based multilateralism and a restrictive attitude towards the use of military force.
