Through this survey project, it is my intention to analyze the intersection of an individual's religiosity and their tendency to support or oppose governmental programs and Trump's political platform. From my personal experience and the information I have attained in my life, the more religious a person is, the more apt they are to hold conservative ideologies. Based on this information, it is safe to assume that the support for liberal-leaning programs would be considerably lower than their non-religious counterparts. However, based on my understanding of religion—specifically the Christian faith—an essential pillar is treating those around you with a love that reflects the love Jesus gives to his followers. Therefore, it should follow that federally funded programs would have an outpouring of support from this population considering they, generally, work to provide assistance to those in a low socio-economic range. This conflicting dichotomy is what encouraged me to study these two topics in conjunction with one another from a sample population at EIU. I am hoping that by evaluating the results of this survey I can gain a finer understanding of the way that religious people affect and are effected by governmental policies.

THIS ARTICLE INVESTIGATES THE INFLUENCE OF RELIGIOSITY ON ONE GROUP OF POLITICAL ACTIVISTS: PARTY AND PAC CONTRIBUTORS. THE AUTHORS FIND THAT THE RELIGIOUS TEND TO CLUSTER IN CONSERVATIVE PACS AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, AND MORE SECULAR ACTIVISTS PREFER LIBERAL PACS AND THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. AT THE INDIVIDUAL LEVEL, AS WELL, RELIGIOSITY IS ASSOCIATED WITH POLITICAL CONSERVATISM, ESPECIALLY ON SOCIAL ISSUES, BUT ALSO ON A WIDE VARIETY OF ECONOMIC AND FOREIGN POLICY QUESTIONS. FINALLY, RELIGION IS SHOWN TO HAVE CONSIDERABLE INDEPENDENT INFLUENCE, EVEN WHEN OTHER IMPORTANT VARIABLES ARE CONTROLLED. THE FINDINGS SUGGEST THAT RELIGION MAY BE AN IMPORTANT FACTOR DIFFERENTIATING CONSERVATIVE AND LIBERAL IDEOLOGIES AMONG POLITICAL ACTIVISTS.

This article explores the relationship between rules and politics in the intersection of the secular and the sacred. When identity in Europe was firmly fixed to Christianity, the rules governing the sacred and secular neatly meshed. With the onset of modernity, however, a cleavage arose between those two sets of rules, leading to theoretical and political conflict and confusion. Understanding the role of rules within modern religious traditions reveals the tension between symbols and authority, a conflict found in secular contexts as well. Hermeneutics, the study of interpretation which had its roots in biblical interpretation, also provides insights on rules and rule-making.

"This book presents critical engagements with the work of Hent de Vries, widely regarded as one of the most important living philosophers of religion. Contributions by a distinguished group of scholars discuss the role played by religion in philosophy; the emergence and possibilities of the category of religion; and the relation between religion and violence, secularism, and sovereignty. Together, they provide a synoptic view of how de Vries's work has prompted a reconceptualization of how religion should be studied, especially in relation to theology, politics, and new media. The volume will be of particular interest to scholars of religious studies, theology, and philosophy"--
International audience ; The deeply social and political significance of religion becomes apparent when looking at how different religious traditions can challenge coexistence and toler ance in everyday life.1 Ideology-expressed in discourse and doctrine/ religious meaning, and moral values3-undergirds identity politics. As such, it is import ant to understand the place of religion in the social organization and transform ation of a given society. 4 Above all, discriminatory and stereotyping ideologies behind the categorizing processes of religious affiliations are inherent to any context, whether local, regional, or international.5 Southeast Europe provides a colorful display of the relationship between religion and politics at the level of religious leaders, state actors, intellectual elites, and ordinary people in everyday interactions. Th e importance of native language in religious offices and the pas sion for historical incursions in the everyday life of public discussions-in print media and online networks-shows the intricate interconnectedness of religion and politics. In everyday conversation, people commonly raid history to their own end, convinced that religious movements and political movements have something in common. Historical Incursions in Everyday Life People often repurpose history to legitimate their view of how the world was, is, and should be. Though such forays into history may seem innocent, often their impact on political and everyday life is not. In February 2012, the Vati can organized a world conference to commemorate the 1,700th anniversary of the Battle of the Milvian Bridge (O ctober 28, 312) and the legacy of Emperor Constantine's conversion to Christianity. In October 2013, the Serbian Orthodox Church also organized in Nish, the birthplace of Constantine, an even larger world conference to commemorate the importance of the Edict of Milan, in which Constantine established th e Christian movement as another official reli gion of the Roman Empire. The st ory of Constantine's ...
