What causes growth and development of a Croatian island? Could preferential tax regimes be one of the solutions to the challenges of Croatian islands without leading to base erosion and profit shifting? The primary goal of this thesis was to analyse the factors that influence the growth of Croatian islands and suggest possible solutions for increasing that growth within the international scope. The literature review performed identifies the several factors influencing the growth of a Country or an Island. A multivariate regression analysis of specific factors was used to develop a parsimonious model. The results show that tax, political, demographic factors affected the GDP of a Croatian island, with certain limitations. The possible solutions for increasing growth within these factors using preferential tax regimes included decentralisation, incentives for population growth, and changes in fiscal regulations.

The COVID-19 pandemic associated with health fear has severely affected Malaysia's tourism industry. The domestic tourism segment is expected to have a speedier recovery than international tourism due to travel restrictions. Accordingly, the principles of Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) and the government's role were utilised in investigating the Millennial's domestic travel intention in this study. This study is a preliminary investigation in nature. It involves responses from the first 60 participants of the fieldwork being carried out for the actual research. The gathered data were analysed using the structural equation modelling (SEM) technique with SmartPLS software. The findings showed that Millennial's Perceived Self Efficacy and (through) Government Intervention have a significant relationship with their domestic travel intention post-pandemic. Practical implications were then provided to the stakeholders in reviving Malaysia's tourism industry.

US government communication about the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly the 'Chinese virus' discourse adopted by Donald Trump and his administration, has led to real-world violence and triggered heated discussions across social media sites, including Sina Weibo (aka Chinese Twitter). The current study explores the relationship between populism and social media by examining how Sina Weibo users respond to Trump's communication on the virus. Employing multimodal critical discourse analysis, we examine both visual and verbal strategies used to build counter-discourses that challenge the use of terms such as 'Chinese virus'. Findings demonstrate the potential of Weibo as a platform of resistance and site where users contest social injustice and racism, but also as a dangerous space in which populist discourses can yield more populist discourses which influence public sentiment and potentially government policies and international relations.

The sensory profiles of thyme honey from the Greek islands with different thymus pollen grain contents (A: > ; 60%, B: 40–60%, and C: 18–40%) were studied. The results of the physico-chemical analyses fulfilled the criteria set by international quality standards and, specifically, Greek legislation (moisture content < ; 18%, hydroxymethylfurfural < ; 10 mg/kg, and diastase activity > ; 20 DN). The sensory results showed that there were significant differences between groups with different pollen grain contents (p < ; 0.01) for all attributes except for floral aroma, with the Group A samples being the lightest in color (4.9 ± 1.8) and having the highest floral odor intensity (5.0 ± 2.0) and salty taste (3.5 ± 1.1). Additionally, samples with the highest pollen grain content (i.e., Group A) had olfactory notes of wood/wax/resin and a chemical aroma.

International audience ; This article explores how key stakeholders of an open innovation ecosystem interact in the digital context to overcome a public health emergency. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, comprehensive, accurate and timely community-based digital contact tracing serves as a decisive measure in curbing viral transmission. This strategy integrates agile government decision-making, corporate innovation, community coordination, and citizen participation. In the process of big data analytics, communities play the crucial role of the middleground that moderates the interactions between organizational upperground (government and enterprises) and individual underground (citizens) on the digital platform. To demonstrate the application, we study the three stages of "closed-end community management" in Wuhan, which represents China's "virus exceptionalism" amid the pandemic. Finally, we raise several ethical concerns related to this model for future R&D management research on digitization.

International audience ; In July 2001, that is, one month after the creation of the Truth and ReconciliationCommission in Peru, the women political prisoners of the Communist Party of PeruShining Path in the high-security jails of Chorrillos (Lima) and Yanamayo (Puno) produced testimonies and drawings about their living conditions in jail under thedictatorship of Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000), with the purpose of participating in theconstruction of an "Authentic Truth Commission." From critical victimology andcritical feminist criminology, Anouk Guiné proposes and elaborates the conceptof strategic victimity to understand the way the inmates operationalize their stories inorder to contribute to the political objectives of their party and to the construction ofwomen's collective memory in the face of State violence, mainly through a focus on thepolitization of the body (of women prisoners and their women relatives) via torture,illness, labor and maternity.

This study investigates factors that could explain why the association between the egalitarian gender-role attitudes and the attitudes toward the importance of marriage (marital centrality) differs across societies. Using data from the International Social Survey Programme for 24 countries in 2002 and 2012 and multilevel modeling, we explore whether the Gender Revolution and the Second Demographic Transition frameworks could explain the country-level differences in the association between gender-role attitudes and marital centrality. We find that the negative association between the egalitarian gender-role attitudes and marital centrality is stronger in countries with a higher gender equality level and a higher fertility level. This work highlights the importance of considering the progress of the gender revolution and the second demographic transition to understand the relationship between gender equality and family formation.

In this work, we present an overview of the historical development of socially responsible investing (SRI). We will argue that such a financial activity has been boosting in recent decades from a niche, mainly as a religious-led exclusionary practice, towards a mainstream strategy of risk analysis for institutional and retail investors. We also discuss the advances and possible drawbacks that regulatory activity and harmonization process on such industry have achieved at international level in recent years, with a special focus on the European Union. The study shows that the lack of a globally accepted taxonomy on what constitutes sustainable activities, of regulatory clarity and of high-quality data allowing for comparisons across industries and regions, together with practical and behavioural complexities are major critical issues that discourage SRI industry at the global level.

The worldwide epidemic of diabetes mellitus and hyperglycemia in pregnancy (HIP) presents many challenges, some of which are country-specific. To address these specific problems, parochial resolutions are essential. In India, the government, by working in tandem with (a) national groups such as the Diabetes in Pregnancy Study Group of India, and (b) global organizations such as the International Diabetes Federation, has empowered the medical and paramedical staff throughout the country to manage HIP. Additionally, despite their academic university backgrounds, Indian health planners have provided practical guidelines for caregivers at the ground level, who look up to these experts for guidance. This multipronged process has helped to negotiate some of the multiple problems that are indigenous and exclusive to India. This review traces the Indian journey to manage and prevent HIP with simple, constructive, and pragmatic solutions.

As the world continues to grapple with the COVID‐19 pandemic, the preparedness of governments to respond to it will likely undergo review. A key component is the legislative capacity and authority that governments had in place or could rapidly introduce to address the social, economic and health consequences of the emergency. We review Canada's legal preparedness for public health emergencies and the use of federal legislation to address the pandemic. We provide an overview of the concept of legal preparedness, summarize the federal statutes, regulations and orders enacted, and analyze the coherence of federal activity and its relevance to provinces, territories and international health regulations. We determine that the federal government has relied on spending power rather than constitutional authority over public health or existing legislation on influencing the course of the pandemic.

In 2013, China's growing economic capacities motivated Beijing to launch a multilateral bank to advance its diplomatic agenda. Scholars are still debating precisely what Beijing seeks to accomplish through the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). This article surveys the key literature on the AIIB, identifying twenty scholarly interpretations of Beijing's strategic goals. The purpose of this research is to understand Beijing's initial design for this bank and evaluate whether this new multilateral development bank can function as an effective instrument for Beijing's economic statecraft. Over its first five years, as an economic tool for Beijing, the AIIB has performed quite remarkably well. The bank not only operates smoothly, generating a reasonable amount in net income for its shareholders, but also serves Beijing's strategic purposes in expanding China's regional influence, enhancing its international status, and ascending toward global leadership. The Agence ivoirienne de régulation de la mutualité sociale (AIRMS) is the administrative body for social mutuality in Côte d'Ivoire. Its mission is to examine, register and monitor applications for approval of social mutual insurances and their umbrella organizations. In practice, AIRMS has positioned itself as a true partner of the Ivorian mutualist movement. Favoring an awareness-raising approach, the agency has encouraged mutual insurances to meet the standards set by the community regulation of social mutuality in the WAEMU zone to become credible players in the health financing landscape in Côte d'Ivoire. In addition, the Director General of the Agency, Ms. Koné Collette, is at the forefront of advocacy for the evolution of women's participation in the governance of mutualist structures. With the Programme d'appui aux Stratégies sociales (PASS), she is leading an ambitious program in this regard: the Réseau International des Femmes Solidaires (RIFES).

This essay presents the findings of the International Conference on Handling of Cultural Goods and Financing of Political Violence and introduces provenance research that examines the market in Europe for antiquities from Asia and the market in North America for antiquities from Europe. It summarises findings, such as the involvement of violent political organisations, transnational organised criminals and politically-exposed persons (PEPs) in illicit trafficking of cultural objects. It also highlights some foundations for progress, such as enhanced traceability and due diligence in the art market, plus action and cooperation to respond to illicit flows as regional problems.
