In this paper I explore the conditions and consequences of the isolation of film scholarship in Latin American universities. This isolation is threefold: (1) internal isolation between the countries of the region, not only in the distribution of films in any format, but mostly a bibliographic isolation between researchers, books, and scholarly journals between these countries; (2) external isolation between Latin American scholars and colleagues in English-speaking countries (U.S, Canada, and England), and therefore an isolation of a very strong didactic and casuistic tradition in scholarly research, teaching, and formation of researchers; and (3) professional isolation between humanistic research on film and the research in social sciences (where the latter is over 90% of all film research projects in the region). In the last section of the paper I point out some strategies that might counterbalance this general situation. ; En este trabajo se exploran las condiciones que determinan la insularidad de los estudios sobre teoría y análisis del cine en la región iberoamericana, que explican la ausencia de teorías del cine de alcance universal producidas en la región. Endorsing the perspective of democratization studies, this article examines the postcommunism itinerary of the institutional infrastructure of Romanian cinematography. Special emphasis is given to the National Center of Cinematography (NCC) as a privileged locus disclosing both the commerce between institutional continuity and change, and the predicaments of cinematography, squeezed between market and state control.

In this important contribution to nationalism studies, Dave Poitras explores how nationhood and the idea of living in a world of nations are experienced in the cities of Montreal and Brussels. Drawing on ethnographic research, he identifies three typical ways of enacting nationhood, thereby capturing the various dynamics through which non-political actors "do nationhood". This book considers a burgeoning social phenomenon, compensated dating in Hong Kong, that facilitates direct commercial sex exchange between consenting females from their mid-teens through the late 20s and males from their early 20s to mid-adulthood. Informed by the transformation of intimacy, the breakdown of institutional constraints, the emergence of a new female sexual autonomy and the advancement of information technology, this book moves beyond stereotypes of sex work to look at the complexities of compensated dating. The phenomenon of compensated dating is distinctive from most other sex trades in that it involves intense emotional interactions and often extends beyond the commercial boundary. Given the dynamic, flexible and ambiguous nature of compensated dating, it has become more of a space for sexual explorations and less of a rigid model of commercial sex, at least in the eye of the participants. This book walks through how men become involved in compensated dating and also sheds lights on how gender relations are negotiated, with important implications on what it means to be a man and a woman in contemporary Hong Kong society. It also speaks to the broader transformations of some of the key social structures and elements, particularly gender and sexualities, in the era of late modernity.--

The author claims that Haberle's theory of the constitution is a science of culture, opposed to formalism, decisionism, positivism, & statism. It is based on the continuity & the relationship among culture-building, law, & state. The subjects of the constitution-formative authority are mutually culturally linked citizens who decide on the objectively given subject-matter & procedures. The theory of the constitution as a science of culture is based on the assumption that serious conflicts among the open societies of Western Europe are highly unlikely. This represents a significant departure from the positivist theory of the state grounded in the conflict of interests & opinions as well as the strong regulatory role of the state. The author challenges Haberle's disregard for the crisis potential of modern societies & proposes that these two opposed theories should complement each other. The author goes on to describe Haberle's research method, which includes an analysis of both the cultural context & the normative/constitutional solutions. He applies this research method to the constitutional laws of Germany, Switzerland, & Austria, & also when comparing large & small states, or developed & underdeveloped ones. Haberle espoused Taylor's definition of culture: culture & civilization are equated so that the systems of culture are on the one hand products of activity, & on the other the conditioning element of future activity. According to Haberle, the culture of a community starts from the traditional, innovative & pluralist aspects that are the orientation points for constitutional science as a science of culture. Regarding tradition, culture is mediation of things past. The innovative aspect is based on the idea that culture is a further development of things past. Since culture is not uniform, its pluralist aspect should not be forgotten. Thus the citizens of a democratic constitutional state make up the cultural/anthropological premise, while the state is only one aspect of the constituted res publica. The constitutional state today goes beyond the scope of the national state since the regional European constitutional state has been evolving together with the outlines of "the world community of constitutional states.". 9 References. Dutch anthropology is a rich field of studies of culture and society in Europe and beyond, with hundreds of participants, today and for the past two centuries.1 It is the result of a complex interaction between scholarly interests in distant peoples, several centuries of colonialism and international trade, and political decisions on the structuring of higher education and research in the Netherlands and its former colonies.2 To a large extent, this historical background has shaped the way research is organised and funded nowadays.

The article considers some topical issues of interaction between the civil society, government and business on implementation of the Bases and Strategy of state cultural policy. Author pays special attention to the analysis of experts and specialists' speeches at the Second Cultural Forum of Russian Regions, that took place in Moscow and Yakutsk on September 25, 2015 with the participation of the Council of Civic Chambers of Subjects of the Russian Federation, the Ministry for Development of the Far East of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Federal Agency on Affairs of Nationalities, the Government, the Civic Chamber of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), leading cultural experts, leaders of education, youth, national, information policy, specialists in social entrepreneurship, representatives of higher education institutions, etc.

A borderline state of the culture is reflected today in human social practices, revealing some new meanings. They are connected not only with the external reality but also with the spiritual state of society; they go into a special sphere of otherness in relation to the previous stages of human development. The transition beyond the bounds of actual existence into the space of consciousness objects creates a new type of otherworldly (average) man. The otherwordliness is, first of all, a classical characteristic, often forgotten and unclaimed by the young generation of Russians. When we say classics, we mean not only the art but also the manners, perceptions and, especially, ethics. The otherscopeness is a goal of the innovational development; it is reflected in the new ideal transmitted and created by the modern education, whose specifics the article is devoted to.
