Over the previous two decades, many OECD countries have lowered the degree of progressivity in their tax structures. In this paper, I investigate labour tax progression in a world characterised by a segmented labour market where the higher-paying jobs are rationed due to (i) oligopolistic market structures, (ii) insider-oriented unions and (iii) international offshoring. In this second-best world, a revenue-neutral decrease in the progressivity of the tax schedule promotes higher domestic (net-of-tax) wage inequality where a shrinking fraction of workers provides the tax revenue to finance the redistribution to an increasing share of lower-wage workers. However, as the tax reform involves an increase in the offshoring intensity, which may translate into a cost advantage for the domestic average consumer, the overall welfare effect is ambiguous. It is shown that the negative effects dominate if trade unions are sufficiently insider-oriented.

In der wirtschafts- und sozialwissenschaftlichen Literatur nimmt die Abhandlung über chinesische Wanderarbeiter einen breiten Raum ein. Bedauerlicherweise setzt sich diese nur aus ökonomischer, soziologischer oder migrationspolitischer Sicht mit dem Thema auseinander und vernachlässigt eine organisationstheoretische Betrachtung. Die folgenden Ausführungen sind daher eine organisations-theoretische Analyse der chinesischen Wanderarbeiter mit Fokus auf deren organisationale Kontrolle. Nach der Darstellung der theoretischen Grundlagen und verwendeten Organisationstheorien von Harry Braverman, Richard Edwards und Stewart R. Clegg wird die organisationale Kontrolle der chinesischen Wanderarbeiter am Beispiel des Unternehmens Foxconn mittels einer Sekundäranalyse untersucht. Die Untersuchung zeigt, dass es Überwachungselemente im Produktions- und Arbeitsprozess sowie im gesellschaftlichen bzw. staatlichen Umfeld gibt, die die organisationale und außerorganisationale Kontrolle der chinesischen Wanderarbeiter prägen und beeinflussen. Sie schließt damit einen Teil des Forschungsdefizits, belegt aber gleichzeitig die Nachteile einer einseitigen theoretischen Betrachtung und gibt Empfehlungen für zukünftige Untersuchungen. Holy places are common to many religions beyond national or religious affiliation; they are meeting places within the same religion but also places of power and conflict. The notion of holy places was laboriously defined in Antiquity and the Middle Ages. It means different things to different religions and faiths. The proposed volume thus presents examinations of diaries and reports, iconography and cartography, theological or liturgical meanings of places visited during pilgrimages. Moreover, the holy places are often very remote or inaccessible for reasons of international relations; there are still substitutes in the form of replicas or national shrines and their roles in the religious and political consciousness.
