In this text reading and writing are considered as socio-cultural practices. Within this context, some aspects related to reading and writing are defined as necessary conditions for democratic life functioning and citizenship participation. Thus, some reflections are developed about school functions that in the language field involve an orientation beyond pedagogy and didactics, and addresses the political sphere.Further more, some explanations are given about the prevailing development of reading and writing as linguistic and psycholinguistic approaches rather than socio-cultural practices.The text concludes with the need for further developing the discussion about the characteristics of public policies on reading and writing, policies which, in Colombia, do not exist yet. ; En el texto se conciben la lectura y la escritura como prácticas socio-culturales. En este marco se establecen algunas tensiones claves referidas a la lectura y la escritura como condiciones delfuncionamiento de la vida democrática y del ejercicio de ciudadanía. En concordancia con lo anterior, se plantean reflexiones en torno a las funciones de la escuela que, en el campo del lenguaje, implican una orientación que va más allá de la pedagogía y la didáctica y se sitúan en el ámbito político.Por otra parte, se desarrollan explicaciones al hecho de que en la escuela no se hayan abordado la lectura y la escritura como prácticas socioculturales, prevaleciendo orientaciones dominantes desde la lingüística y la psicología. El texto se cierra señalando la necesidad de avanzar en la discusión amplia sobre las características de una política pública de la lectura y la escritura, política que en Colombia, aún, no existe.

La comunidad como concepto socio-antropológico surgió a la par de la Ciencia Social. En este artículo estableceré un recorrido histórico del término para reflexionar sobre los alcances contemporáneos del mismo en la investigación y pedagogía socio-antropológicas. La revisión bibliográfica es necesariamente sintética. El criterio de selección de esta ha sido tomar a varios autores clásicos, los más representativos de cada paradigma socio-científico: evolucionismo, sociología comprensiva, estructural-funcionalismo y marxismo. Finalmente, una mención al transnacionalismo y otras visiones actuales. El resultado es un compendio pedagógico que por su poder analítico permite considerar al concepto tratado como ambivalente en tanto método pero como herramienta política en tanto implica un modelo social utópico. ; The Community, as socio-anthropological concept, emerged along with Social Science. A historical tour of this concept is established in this paper to reflect on its contemporary scope in the socio- anthropological pedagogy and research. The bibliographic review is necessarily simplified. The criterion to select it has been the selection of several classic authors, the most representative of each socio-scientific paradigm: evolutionism, comprehensive Sociology, structural functionalism, Marxist theory. Finally, a mention of transnationalism and other current perspectives is presented. The result is a pedagogical compendium that, due to its analytical power, allows considering the concept dealt with as an ambivalent concept as a method and as a political tool insofar as it implies a utopian social model.

حلب في الشعر المعاصر والحديث (المجلد الثاني من موسوعة حلب الشهباء في عيون الشعراء ) وثيقةٌ تاريخيّة وأدبيّة يستعرض فيها حسن قجّـة 035 قصيدة كُتبتْ عن مدينة حلب أو ذكرَتْها بين مطلع القرن العشرين ومطلع القرن الحادي والعشرين، معبّرةً عن الأوجُه الحضارية المتعددة للمدينة العريقة، بتاريخها المديد وتراثها الغنّي وطبيعتها الكوسموبوليتية. يُستهلّ الكتاب بوصفٍ موجز لمدينة حلب في القرن العشرين من الجوانب الاجتماعية والفكرية والأدبية، ويتضمن 01 فصول، يستقصي خلالها القيمة الفعليّة والرمزيّة لمدينة حلب في عيون مئات الشعراء، ومدى انعكاس ذلك في حضورها بقصائدهم، كما يهدف إلى التأكيد على المساهمة التي قام بها الشعر المعاصر، في التعرّف على المدينة، من النواحي الموضوعية (كعمرانها وتراثها وصفات سكانها ودورها الوطني) ومن النواحي المعنوية (كسمعتها وقيمتها الحضارية وفخر أبنائها بها وشوقهم إليها)

حلب في شعر الرثاء المعاصر (المجلد الثالث من موسوعة حلب الشهباء في عيون الشعراء ) وثيقةٌ تاريخيّة وأدبيّة جمعتْ أكثر من 008 قصيدة من قارات العالم الخمس، كُتبت في رثاء مدينة حلب بين عامي 1102 و0202 إثْر الدمار الكبير والمؤسف الذي تعرّضتْ له جرّاء الحرب الدائرة في سورية. يتضمن الكتاب 7 فصول، يستقصي خلالها حسن قجّـة القيمة الفعليّة والرمزيّة لمدينة حلب في مراثي الشعراء، وكيفية انعكاس ذلك في قصائدهم، فمن البديهيّ أن يتفاعل شعراءُ العالم مع القضايا الكبرى التي تهمّ الإنسانيةَ بأسْرها، فكيف بمدينة حلب وهي المدينة المأهولة الأقدم في تاريخ الحضارة البشرية. يستهل الكتاب بلمحةٍ عن رثاء المدن في النصوص الشعرية، ودراسةٍ تحليلية عن مواضيع قصائد الكتاب، ثم تُسرد القصائد مصنفةً وفق نمط صياغتها الشعرية ولغاتها الأصلية

Exploring the complex dynamics of twenty-first century spatial sociality, this volume provides a much-needed multi-dimensional perspective that undermines the dominant image of Northern Ireland as a conflict-ridden place. Despite touching on memories of "the Troubles" and continuing unionist-nationalist tensions, the volume refuses to consider people in the region as purely political beings, or to understand processes of placemaking solely through ethnic or national contestations and territoriality. This research offers a unique opportunity to revisit the omnivore hypothesis under a unified method of cross-national analysis. To accomplish this, we interpret omnivourism as a special case of cultural eclecticism (Ollivier, 2008; Ollivier, Gauthier and Truong, 2009). Our methodological approach incorporates the simultaneous analysis of locally produced and globally known musical genres. Its objective is to verify whether cultural omnivourism is a widespread phenomenon, and to determine to what extent any conclusions can be generalised across countries with different social structures and different levels of cultural openness. To truly understand the scope of the omnivourism hypothesis, we argue that it is essential to perform a cross-national comparison to test the hypothesis within a range of social, political and cultural contexts, and a reflection of different historical and cultural repertoires (Lamont, 1992).

International audience ; In 2007, the city of Valparaiso (Chile) received a " donation " from the Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. It was a blueprint for a cultural centre, planned to be built on the grounds of an old prison. This project was never implemented and caused serious discussions in the Chilean public sphere. The conversion of this prison into the "Former prison cultural park " coincides with the last phase of government of the centre-left political coalition created to defeat Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship (1973-1989). This paper will focus on how the conflict set off by the Niemeyer project reveals an official representation for the country in which "cultural infrastructure" plays a crucial and symbolic role. This process starts as an implicit cultural policy, set forth by institutions without any relation to "explicitly" cultural issues. This project provides an analytical opportunity to gain insight into the articulations between cultural policies and the economic model that has been operating in Chile since the dictatorship.

Among Chinese writers of the 20th century, Xie Wanying 谢婉莹 (1900–1999), known with her pen name Bing Xin 冰心, has been considered by literary critics as "the writer of love" and "the philosopher of love". Nevertheless, this label seems to have ignored an element that could let us identify important conflicts within her works, that can be attributed to her contacts and relations with people and institutions linked to the Christian faith. Therefore, in the first period of Bing Xin's literary production (1920–1930), this peculiar aspect of Western culture, the Christian belief, seems to be for her the expression of a definitely alternative and unconventional way to achieve truth in the early 20th century China.

Conference given in may 2012 at the university of Alberta (Canada) Media in minority contexts ; Never before has "cultural diversity" been such popular topic, not just among international institutions, but also in the field of cultural industries or for the defenders of world cultures. According to Armand Mattelart, who analysed the genesis of "Cultural diversity", it has become a real hotchpotch with, as time goes by, a loss of its meaning and heuristic scope, thus making it difficult to understand the main issues at stake when dealing with the relationships between cultural matters, public policies and economy. [Mattelart, 2005] "Cultural diversity" includes "language diversity" which is similarly subjected to contradictory and paradoxical discourses. Indeed, as linguistic minorities and researchers already know, the variety of the languages spoken in the world is declining [Crystal, 2000; Hagège, 2000; Moseley, 2010]. The hegemony of two or three international languages (above all the Anglo-Saxon/varieties of English) leading to a language market [Calvet, 2002]; the globalization of media and cultural industries; economic exchanges; and, population flows due to mass tourism and migrations, are some of the majors factors that contribute to marginalizing linguistic idiosyncrasies. These main trends keep on developing and therefore threaten language diversity, all the more so when minority languages are only spoken within the scope of the private sphere and kept away from media, education, justice and administration. At the dawn of the XXI° century, the awareness that language diversity is a precious heritage is grudgingly be faced by many State authorities throughout the world in planning linguistic policies for minorities. Even though many countries signed the international conventions promoted by the ILO (International Labour organization), UNESCO or the European Union, and sometimes supported these decisions through constitutional changes, concrete measures to promote and foster minority languages usually go unheeded. This is the situation we would like to analyze from a socio-political viewpoint, comparing the case of European and Latin-American countries, on the basis of inquiries and a critical survey of legal texts in order to point out how national realities are reluctant to go beyond the balance of powers inherited from domination and colonialism. Special attention will be paid to printed and audio visual media; in this particular field, more than constitutional frameworks securing the right to information, what linguistic minorities need to exist within the democratic public sphere is the right to communicate: this challenge is presently becoming a reality in some Latin-American countries like Argentina.

Cultural mapping reflects a spatial turn broadly taken in related areas of urban studies, all of which, in different ways, care about the interaction between social and material space. This article will contribute to this emerging interdisciplinary field by exploring applications of cultural mapping as tools for more inclusive forms of urbanism. The main argument holds that particular forms of cultural mapping can help bridge certain constraints of ethnographic methodologies of social sciences, on one hand, and spatial analysis and design methodologies, on the other hand, as they can operate in the same interstices of social and material space. This article is the result of a three-year and ongoing collaboration between the Research Group on Urbanism and Architecture of the University of Leuven and theatre company Teatro Oficina, located on a highly contested urban site in São Paulo's central neighbourhood of Bixiga, which for thirty years has been part and parcel of a Lute Urbaine ('urban battle') between the cultural group and a major real estate development firm. Both the theatre building and the surrounding terrain present themselves as pars-pro-toto for a theatrical city paradigm, offering insights on the dialectic vicissitudes of socio-cultural actions vis-à-vis the material transformation of the city.Keywords: urban activism, participatory urban design, modernism, urban stage, theatre cultureRésumé: La cartographie culturelle reflète un tournant spatial dans le champ des études urbaines et disciplines associées qui sont à tout le moins toutes concernées par les interactions entre les espaces sociaux et les espaces matériels. Cet article tente d'apporter une contribution à ce débat interdisciplinaire en explorant les applications de la cartographie culturelle dans le cadre des projets d'urbanisme participatif, voire d'urbanisme plus socialement inclusif. Certaines formes de cartographie culturelle peuvent permettre de répondre à certaines contraintes émanant des méthodologies ethnographiques en sciences sociales et ce, en comblant les lacunes découlant de la rencontre des espaces sociaux et matériels. Les résultats de cet article découlent de trois années de collaboration entre le Research Group on Urbanism and Architecture de l'Université de Leuven et le Teatro Oficina, situé dans un espace contesté du quartier Bixiga, au coeur de São Paulo. Ce quartier en question a été au coeur de plusieurs luttes urbaines (Lute Urbaine) entre groups sociaux culturels et promotteurs immobiliers. L'immeuble du théâtre et ses environs se présent en tant que pars-pro-toto pour le paradigme de la ville théâtrale, offrant des points des perspectives sur la dialectique de l'action culturelle vis-à-vis la transformation matérielle de la ville.Mots clé: l'activisme urbain, dessin urbain participative, modernism, scène urbaine, culture théâtrale
