Dawit I has received far less attention than either his grandfather ʿAmdä Ṣǝyon I or his son Zärʾa Yaʿǝqob. This comparatively brief article attempts to partially redress the balance. During the more than three decades during which he reigned, Dawit strengthened the religious and political fabric of Ethiopia. By promoting devotion to both the Cross and the Virgin Mary, he provided the Church with two pan-Christian symbols which transcended local rivalries and regional loyalties. These were, moreover, symbols particularly suited to visual representation and hence comparatively easy to propagate among Ethiopia's largely illiterate population. He did not, however, neglect the role of religious texts. His reign is remembered both for the important translations initiated, most notably Täʾammǝrä Maryam and for original works composed by his close associate Giyorgis of Sägla. Dawit also made great strides in solidifying Church state relations, particularly through his generous land grants, and although he did not succeed in resolving the Ewosṭatian controversy, in the last decade of his rule, he moved towards a pragmatic accommodation. All this would by itself, qualify Dawit as one of the outstanding leaders in Ethiopian history. His military successes, particularly against the Muslims of Adal, can only further cement his reputation.

Taiwan's financial institutions, like their counterparts in other East Asian countries in recent years, have been bogged down by bad loans, deteriorating asset quality, & mismanagement. Government efforts to reform the financial system are at best piecemeal. This paper analyzes the political, social, & economic context of Taiwan's local financial institutions, a body whose problems are symptomatic of the general banking sector in Taiwan. The paper finds that Taiwan's local financial institutions are deeply embedded in the Kuomintang (KMT)-centered political economy, & are thus not easily subject to large-scale reforms. The ascension to power by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) since the 2000 presidential elections should pave the way for more serious reforms. However, difficulties still abound. The development of purposeful and principled programs meant to improve the scientific level of countries requires the assessment and measurement of research, and oil industry research is no exception. Therefore, examining the quantitative and qualitative growth trend of products in petroleum engineering ‌can be a guideline for decision-makers and politicians to develop and advance this field. This research is a scientometric study conducted using the co-citation analysis technique. The statistical population of the present study includes all articles in the field of petroleum engineering indexed in the Web of Science database from January 1, 1985, to December 31, 2019. All full record and cited references with tagged format were marked as plain text files to performing analysis. Ravar PreMap, UCINET and NetDraw software were used to identify countries and researchers in question and do a co-citation study. The annual growth trend of articles in petroleum engineering has had an upward trend between 1985 and 2019. Finally, by examining the research in this area, it was found that based on centrality indices, "BAHADORI, ALIREZA" from New South Wales Oil and Gas Company of Australia and "MOHAMMADI, AMIR H." from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa have played a more important role in scientific production in the field of petroleum engineering according to rank and intermediate centrality indices. Co-citation analysis of articles can show the most important articles and their relationships. Political development in postcommunist Lithuania is described as a "negotiated transition," with 3-5 major political parties moving the country toward democratic consolidation. The history of competitive party politics in the country is traced from the end of WWI, through its suppression under Soviet rule, to the revival of a multiparty system with independence in 1990. Different methods of party development are identified, party ideologies are compared, & the performance of each major party in parliamentary elections, 1990-2000, is analyzed; voter turnout & party attachment are also assessed. In this article, we classify and evaluate the accuracy of the predictions issued by members of The McLaughlin Group, a Washington-based, syndicated public affairs discussion program with a sizable following among political elites. We conclude that the influence of John McLaughlin and his colleagues must be based principally on the interests and perceptions of their audience rather than on the clarity and accuracy of their predictions, both of which are lacking. We argue, however, that this does not make the program any less important a component of political discourse in the nation's capital.
