Este artículo analiza la evolución de la Unión Sindical Obrera en la provincia de Cádiz (España) durante los primeros años de Transición (1976-1981). Esta organización pasó en pocos años de ser la segunda fuerza sindical en España, detrás de Comisiones Obreras, a ocupar un papel secundario en la arena sindical. A partir de testimonios orales de sindicalistas en diferentes sectores industriales se reconstruyen los marcos, los dilemas y los conflictos internos de dicha organización sindical en el periodo que ha sido mencionado. Este análisis permite cubrir lagunas sobre una de las organizaciones sindicales que han sido menos estudiadas en la historiografía y en la sociología españolas. Asimismo, permite identificar los factores que han propiciado, históricamente, la hegemonía de los sindicatos mayoritarios a escala estatal. Finalmente, permite comprender cómo las representaciones sobre la autonomía sindical y el intercambio político juegan un papel importante en la configuración de la estrategia sindical en diferentes niveles. ; This article analyses the development of the Worker Labour Union in the province of Cádiz (Spain) during the first years of the Transition (1976-1981). This organisation passed in a few years from being the second most important trade union in Spain, after Workers Commissions, to play a secondary role in the labour arena. Drawing on oral testimonies of union organisers from different industries, the article reconstructs the frames, dilemmas and internal conflicts of this labour organisation during such a period. This analysis allows to fill in the historiographic and sociological gap about this trade union. In addition, it allows to identify the factors that have historically favoured the hegemony of the two Spanish major trade unions. Finally, the article contributes to understand how representations on trade union autonomy and political exchange play an important role in the making of trade union strategy at different scales.

Liberal international relations theory proposes that peace fosters democracy. This research note tests this & a related hypothesis, that defeat in war makes an authoritarian state's transition to democracy more likely. It uses Weibull event history models to analyze both the transition to & survival of democracy for states from 1960 to 1992, using the MID, COW, & Pearson/Baumann intervention data sets to measure international conflict. Important control variables such as economic prosperity are also included. It finds that lower levels of participation in international conflict do not facilitate democratic transition or survival, with the limited exception that participation in an international war blocks democratic transition. Also, in most models examined defeat in war does not make democratic transition more likely. The implications for liberalism are mixed: peace in general does not cause democracy, but spreading democracy is likely to spread peace. 2 Tables, 40 References. Adapted from the source document.

This article aims to analyze the figure of Alfonso Osorio and the idea of Spain that he maintained during the years of the democratic transition, studying the projects he tried to carry out to address the territorial problem. The issue has been approached through a biographical analysis, for which the diverse material deposited in his personal archive has been of special value, as well as the testimony of Osorio and other partners of his life experience. This has made it possible to know the main lines of his political thought, which, in this article, has been defined as «neoforalist». From this conception he tried to carry out different projects that, nevertheless, clashed with the position of Adolfo Suárez, without a definite idea of this problem and in favor of relegating the issue, being the different conceptions of the regional fact one of the causes of the political rupture between both politicians. ; Este artículo pretende analizar la figura de Alfonso Osorio y la idea de España que mantuvo durante los años de la transición democrática, estudiando los proyectos que trató de llevar a cabo para abordar el problema territorial. La cuestión ha sido analizada a través de un acercamiento biográfico al personaje, para lo cual ha sido de especial valor el diverso material depositado en su archivo personal, así como el testimonio del propio Osorio y otros copartícipes de su experiencia vital. In 1982 the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) came to power and put into place an ambitious cultural policy that had a considerable effect on the film industry. In 1983 the so-called "Miró Decree" was enacted. It offered generous measures to promote film production and establish a solid framework for the industry. At the same time, regional governments issued laws to boost the cinema. Both initiatives enabled debut directors to make more committed and personal films. Our work analyses the impact of this legislation on the films that addressed the dramatic theme of ETA terrorism; films that could be made thanks to committed support from central and regional governments. It also looks into how these projects were accepted by Spanish society. The films share common elements such as the way the directors distance themselves from displaying a heroic image of terrorists or a one-dimensional point of view on the Spanish police, while passing judgement on the social and economical crisis that coincided with the beginning of the Transition to democracy. Only four out of the twelve films shot during those six years did well at the box office, tripling their official costs. The rest did not elicit much audience interest, although they paved the way for a new generation of film directors and also established to some extent firmer foundations for the film industry, as was the goal of the Decree. ; En 1982, cuando el Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE) alcanzó el gobierno de España, puso en marcha una ambiciosa política cultural que incidió considerablemente en la industria cinematográfica. En 1983 se publicaba un real decreto, el "Decreto Miró", que ofrecía unas generosas medidas de fomento a la producción cinematográfica, con la intención de establecer un sólido tejido industrial. A su vez las Administraciones autonómicas dictaron normas de fomento; ambas iniciativas permitieron a directores noveles realizar películas más comprometidas y personales. A lo largo de este estudio se analiza la repercusión de estas medidas en las películas que abordaron un drama tan sensible como fue el terrorismo de ETA; filmes que vieron la luz gracias a la apuesta decidida de las Administraciones. Asimismo se analiza la aceptación, por parte de la sociedad española, de estas propuestas. En estas cintas existen elementos comunes como el alejamiento de los directores de la imagen heroica de los terroristas o la monolítica visión sobre las fuerzas del orden, a la vez que se denuncia la crisis social y económica de los inicios de la Transición. De las doce películas filmadas durante este sexenio, solo cuatro obtuvieron buenos resultados en taquilla, triplicando con su recaudación los costes declarados. Las demás se alejaron del interés del público, aunque propiciaron el establecimiento de una cantera de nuevos directores y ampliaron, de alguna manera, el tejido industrial cinematográfico, tal y como pretendía el Real Decreto.

Introduction: This introduction provides the rationale and theoretical anchoring for the volume and its focus on aparadigmatic cases. It argues that practice and scholarship in paradigmatic transitional justice contexts built a field that conceptualises the state as a partner in the transition. However, due to the field's expansion to aparadigmatic justice contexts, this assumption and its associated binary concepts cannot inform analysis. Instead, as demonstrated by the present volume, transitional justice in aparadigmatic contexts offer different intentions, responses, and experiences of transitional justice. Where the state is not a partner, it may ignore, refuse, resist, and fight, while giving way to other actors and justice articulations.
The chapter first conceptualizes transitional justice as the potential for recognition, accountability and disruption. The chapter then discusses the expansion and recent standardisation of the field, whereby transitional justice has become four specific types of mechanisms: trials, truth telling, reparation and institutional reform. Thereafter it analyses the problem of the state, particularly how the field has assumed a transitional state, a partnering state. In the next section it offers a typology of transitional justice contexts that cover both paradigmatic and aparadigmatic contexts and ranges from contexts of ongoing conflict to consolidated democracy in formerly imperial states. This range covers seven different types of transitional justice context organized on the basis of the status of its political authority. Lastly, it maps the volume's chapters onto the typology and briefly introduces each of them.

En el presente artículo nos proponemos analizar las variaciones que adoptaron las representaciones sobre los "niños desaparecidos" durante los primeros años de la transición a la democracia en la Argentina (1982-1984), un periodo que estuvo caracterizado por la incertidumbre política y la fuerte disputa por la construcción de sentidos en torno a los legados de la dictadura militar saliente. Por un lado, analizaremos los cambios y continuidades en el discurso público de Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo, el organismo de derechos humanos específicamente abocado a la búsqueda de los "niños desaparecidos". Al mismo tiempo, rastrearemos la presencia de otros discursos y representaciones sobre esta problemática que rechazaban o tensionaban el relato de la organización e indagaremos cómo esta confrontación contribuyó a redefinir su discurso, incorporando conceptos y saberes provenientes de diferentes disciplinas. Observaremos, por último, el papel del informe final de la CONADEP (el Nunca Más) en la legitimación del discurso y del reclamo de Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo, en el marco de la constitución de un nuevo "régimen de memoria" sobre el traumático pasado dictatorial. ; In this paper we analyze the variations adopted by the representations about the "disappeared children" during the first years of the democratic transition in Argentina (1982-1984), a period characterized by political uncertainty and a strong dispute for the construction of meanings around the legacies of the outgoing military dictatorship. In a first place, we will analyze the changes and continuities in the public discourse of the Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo, the human rights organization specifically dedicated to the search of the "disappeared children". At the same time, we will track the presence of other discourses and representations about this issue that rejected or stressed the organization's speech. We will inquire how this confrontation helped to redefine its own discourse, incorporating concepts and knowledge from different disciplines. This article examines how family researchers use federal statistics, particularly from the U.S. Census, to understand the realities of trends concerning the family unit. The article shows that these data have helped researchers to understand the major, largely irreversible revolution that has taken place in America in the ways that people engage in family formation, make interpersonal commitments, and take on caregiving obligations. In addition, the article makes clear the importance of understanding these changes to make and evaluate policy, such as governmental efforts to promote marriage. The article also shows the usefulness of federal data in allowing researchers to track the development of a new stage of life, termed by some the "age of independence" or "emerging adulthood," and points to the need to keep fine-tuning, rethinking, and updating the categories that are being measured. What, another book about Sun Yat-sen? The sceptical reader should not be deterred. He or she will learn much by reading this informative, lucid history of Sun Yat-sen's career, his thinking, and his influence on China as well as on various leaders of developing nations of the last century.Wells portrays Sun as a rare, humane revolutionary who could have unified China and facilitated China's transition to a peaceful, modern society and state. Such achievements were well in his grasp but the foreign leaders of Sun's time preferred a weak, divided China and ignored his pleas for assistance.Although Sun was famous in China immediately after his death, Sun's "synthesis of Eastern and Western ideas" attracted few outstanding Chinese leaders to his cause. As Ssu-yu Teng and John K. Fairbank stated in their China's Response to the West: A Documentary Survey, 1839–1923 (p. 276) "the doom of the Kuomintang was sealed from the time when Dr. Sun failed to convince the scholars of Peita that his "Three People's Principles" could give them intellectual leadership." Why Sun's political thought did not attract a broad segment of the leading elite to agree with his message and follow his revolutionary path is still a puzzle.

У логіці національно-революційного відродження то був цілком умотивований перехід від теорії до практичного здійснення світоглядного проекту, засади якого ще в добу бездержавності розроблялися М. Драгомановим, Ю. Бачинським, М. Міхновським, М. Грушевським. It was a milestone which separated two historical eras: if previously the unity of our eastern and western terrains remained only a dream of intellectuals, a poetic vision of writers, or a program political formula for the future, from then on it became a real-time topical strategy. The logic of the national-revolutionary revival saw it as a fully reasoned transition from theory to practical implementation of the visionary project, whose foundations were elaborated back in the stateless time by M. Drahomanov, Yu. Bachynskyi, M. Mikhnovskyi, M. Hrushevsky. However, at the same time, that very active and practical stage forced two Ukrainian republics united in one state to enter into the armed conflict as with Russia in its "white" and "red" modifications, so with the revived Poland cherishing imperial ambitions: in this regard, the very idea of Ukrainian integrity was fundamentally unacceptable. Such new quality of historical processes in the Ukrainian political conceptual sphere also demanded new comprehension, for which the events of 1919 played a crucial part. It was during that period that the UPR and WUPR leaders were actively seeking for the possibilities to optimally accommodate the interests of Upper-Dnieper Ukraine and Galicia within the political strategy of the united state. Often those controversies turned into an open contradiction: the concept grounded by S. Petliura and his followers, which consisted in the institutional completion of the consolidation process by forming the unified government and army for all Ukrainian terrains, was opposed by the concept of the WUPR leaders, who were totally against such approaches, supporting the maximum possible separation of political institutions in Galicia. Although these discrepancies led to tragic consequences of the Liberation Movement, the concept of unity was established during 1919 as an imperative of the social and political thinking of Ukrainians.

Розроблені рекомендації щодо підвищення ефективності перетворення і використання енергії. ; The topicality of the research is due to the fact that the most significant negative consequences of ill-conceived policies of the organization, management, planning and government regulation was reflected primarily in basic industries, which are industries of the fuel and energy complex. The article considers the main factors affecting the development and effective functioning of the fuel and energy complex of Ukraine. Analyzed the main challenges and priorities regarding change and development fuel and energy complex of Ukraine in the context of accession to the European energy system. Scientifically assessed and practical recommendations for improving management of innovation and investment development of this basic industry of the country. Developed recommendations for improving the efficiency of conversion and use of energy. The contradiction between the right course of transition to market type of regulation of the economy and not always consistent methods of its implementation – the main cause of current well-being, both in political and everyday life.

The Russian Cinema of the DissolutionThe paper takes the issue of Russian reckoning cinema after 1989. This current can be defined as comprising the films which try to lay the foundations of a new narrative about the Soviet Union (alternative to the dominant narrative). The authors reflect on the specificity of the filmmakers' critical attitude towards the previous system. The story of the break-up of the Soviet Union turns to be a story of the great catastrophe – the tragedy of the whole society, abandoned by hypocritical intelligentsia and deceived by political elites. Rosyjskie kino rozpaduTekst podejmuje problematykę rosyjskiego kina rozliczeniowego po 1989 roku – słabo widocznego nurtu próbującego stworzyć zręby nowej narracji o Związku Radzieckim, która mogłaby stanowić alternatywę wobec narracji dominującej. Stanowi próbę namysłu nad specyfiką krytyki poprzedniego systemu przeprowadzaną przez twórców tego nurtu. Opowieść o rozpadzie Związku Radzieckiego okazuje się tu opowieścią o wielkiej katastrofie – tragedii całego społeczeństwa, opuszczonego przez obłudną inteligencję i oszukanego przez elity polityczne.

The author uses James S. Coleman' conception of micro-to-macro transitions as a theoretical tool for reconstruction kinship network as well as network of civil activities among members of "Stara Hromada" (The Old Community). It is impossible to reconstruct social foundations of the Ukrainian national movement according to Ernest Gellner' conception. E. Gellner in his classical book "Nations and Nationalism" explains social origins of modern nationalism as a reaction to industrialization. According to E. Gellner, bourgeois class had the main influence on the process of nation formation during the industrialization. That trend was not possible in Ukrainian social, economic, and political context of XIX century. The main role in Ukrainian nationhood and nation formation played traditional elite (nobles). The Old Community after 1869 was network organization of that social group. The author uses network analysis for empirical evidence. Communication and cooperation between different members of the Old Community were based on principles of estate integration. Marriage was especially significant social practice in the process of community integration. Civil activity with family background was a reaction to contradictory conflation of different social roles. That activity provoked new type of social identity – national identity among representatives of traditional elites. James S. Coleman' conception provides heuristic understanding of aggregation individual actions and attitudes into desirable behaviors at the collective level. ; Використано концепцію мікро-макро переходів Дж. The end of the Cold War ushered in a new period of instability in the Caucasus, as groups formerly associated with the Communist Party sought to wrest power from newly formed political movements, which themselves sought independence from the successor to the Soviet Union, the Commonwealth of Independent States. In the immediate post-Cold War period a number of alliances, formed by groups with radically different agendas, shaped the ensuing political uncertainty across the region. In Chechnya, a number of historical relationships influenced the formation of nationalist and communist coalitions, particularly in the early and latter part of the twentieth century. Moreover, in the post-Soviet period, a series of coalitions and alliances - such as the Abkhaz Battalion - melded together national and regional groups, which themselves had an impact on the first Russo-Chechen War of the 1990s. Following the end of the first war in 1996, a series of other alliances, partially influenced by religion, linked members of the Chechen diaspora community with indigenous radical figures and foreign jihadis who espoused Salafism. This, in turn, expanded what had ostensibly been a nationalist movement into a regional conflict beyond the borders of Chechnya, a development that sheds light on the second Russo-Chechen War.
