Eagerness to 'name and shame' neo-Nazis after alt-right violence and intimidation at the 'Unite the Right' rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, has revitalised the ethical debate over the practice of 'doxing' (dropping documents) to publicly shame previously unidentified white nationalists. Drawing on Sara Ahmed's politics of emotion to analyse the affective politics of doxing as a weaponised form of public shaming and expression of personal disgust raises urgent questions about the effects and ethics of doxing as an activist practice and form of cyber-harrassment. The nature and extent of adults' engagement in diverse manifestations of technology-facilitated aggression is not yet well understood. Most research has focused on victimization. When explored, engagement in online aggression and abuse has centered on children and young people, particularly in school and higher education settings. Drawing on nationally repre sentative data from New Zealand adults aged 18 and over, this chapter explores the overall prevalence of online aggression with a focus on gender and age. Our findings support the need to also understand adult aggressors' behaviors to better address the distress and harm caused to targets through digital communications. The chapter discusses the implications of the results for policy and practice and proposes some directions for future research.

AbstractThere has been a little research on emotion, cognitive load, or learning performance for digital game-based learning (DGBL). However, there is still a dearth of research on investigating the interactive effects of scaffolding DGBL and cognitive style on the above three outcomes. Participants were 97 middle-aged and elder adults from a community college and randomly assigned into three groups. Taking prior knowledge as the covariate, 3 × 2 two-way MANCOVA was adopted to verify the interactive effects of scaffolding DGBL (hard scaffolding DGBL, soft scaffolding DGBL, and non-scaffolding DGBL) and cognitive style (Serialist and Holist). The findings presented that there exited significantly interactive effects of scaffolding DGBL and cognitive style on learning emotion, cognitive load, and learning performance. In hard scaffolding DGBL, learning emotion, cognitive load, and learning performance of Serialist learners were significantly better than those of Holist learners. Conversely, in soft scaffolding DGBL, learning emotion, cognitive load, and learning performance of Holist learners were significantly better than those of Serialist learners. Learning emotion, cognitive load, and learning performance of Serialist learners using hard scaffolding DGBL and Holist learners using soft scaffolding DGBL were significantly better than those of learners using non-scaffolding DGBL. The findings demonstrated concrete contributions and implications on practical promotion and theoretical development. This study ensures sufficiency of applying the cognitive-affective theory of learning with media (CATLM), cognitive load theory and cognitive style theory on DGBL, suggesting to extend the application of these theories to scaffolding.

In the contemporary era, there are new modes of political discourse, product of the crisis in the mass media and the emergence of social networks. In this article, the discursiveness of Mauricio Macri's official accounts on Facebook and Twitter are analyzed, considering three phases of his political activity: the presidential pre-candidature at the end of 2010, which was later aborted; the candidature for the re-election for the Government of the city of Buenos Aires, in 2011; and the presidential campaign of 2015. The analysis is based on a methodology of discourse analysis and sociosemiotics (Verón, 1987a), and incorporates tools from hypermedia circulation theory (Carlón, 2015). It is concluded that the discourse of the 2015 campaign, in which Macri reached the presidency of Argentina, was characterized by a mix of features that cross the private and the public —in a continuity with the discursive modes of 2010 and 2011— as well as a diversification of the addressees and the incorporation of mediatic modes of argumentation, appropriation and interrelation. ; En la era contemporánea existen nuevos modos del discurso político, que son producto de la crisis en los medios masivos y del surgimiento de las redes sociales. En este artículo se analizan las discursividades presentes en las cuentas oficiales de Mauricio Macri en Facebook y en Twitter, a lo largo de tres fases sucesivas de su actividad política: la precandidatura presidencial de fines de 2010, que fue luego abortada; la candidatura a la reelección de la jefatura de Gobierno de la ciudad de Buenos Aires, en 2011; y la campaña presidencial de 2015. Se utiliza una metodología de análisis del discurso y sociosemiótica (Verón, 1987a), y se incorporan herramientas de la teoría de la circulación hipermediática (Carlón, 2015). Se concluye que la campaña de 2015, que consagró a Macri como presidente de Argentina, se caracteriza por una mixtura de rasgos que cruzan lo privado y lo público —en continuidad con los modos discursivos de 2010 y 2011—, así como por una diversificación en la destinación y una incorporación de modos de argumentación, apropiación e interrelación mediáticos.

In the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, characterized by rapid technological advancements and widespread digitization, this paper delves into the evolving paradigms of historical education. Traditional teaching methods are becoming obsolete, given the tech-savvy nature of current learners. This study explores innovative pedagogical approaches that integrate technology, catering to the unique needs of this generation. By reviewing contemporary literature and gathering expert insights, we offer an overview of emerging trends in historical education. Notably, technology is poised to redefine how history is learned. Modern learners gravitate towards boundary-less learning experiences, enabled by resources like ebooks, ICT-based apps, websites, android platforms, VR, and virtual tours. To stay relevant, a significant shift in historical education is imperative. This paper concludes by emphasizing the profound implications of this transition and proposes actionable recommendations for educators and policymakers.

This work addresses the role of the philosophy of education in the current panorama, marked by the technological-digital galaxy. It is explained that the philosophy of education complements pedagogy and presents frameworks for reflection that, based on a conception of the politics as the axis of concern and reproduction of doing in itself and from poietica education, which is what makes the existence something beautiful and valuable in itself, you can lay the foundations to conceive the education as an action at the service of optimizing humanity. ; Este trabajo aborda el papel de la filosofía de la educación en el panorama actual, marcado por la galaxia tecnológico-digital. Se explica que la filosofía de la educación complementa a la pedagogía y presenta marcos de reflexión que, a partir de una concepción de lo político como eje de preocupación y reproducción del hacer en sí mismo y a raíz de la educación poiética, que es la que convierte la existencia en algo bello y valioso en sí mismo, se pueden poner las bases para concebir lo educativo como una acción al servicio de la optimización de lo humano.

Abstract This paper is an ecocritical study of Tanure Ojaide's Delta Blues. The study brings to bare the analysis of language use, symbols and images employed by the poet to establish the mood and tone infused in the message and the vision of the poet. In doing so, the purpose of the study is to analyze the ecological degradation as it affects the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. The Ecocriticism model is adopted as a theoretical model of analysis for the study. The study shows how the poet through images and symbols captures the human, political and environmental degradations in the region. Arising from the findings, the study recommends that the environment should be properly guarded to reduce the level of degradation in the region. The socio-political activities should be adequately improved to reduce the high level of marginalization, which the people of the region have been subjected to. The environmental experts should collaborate with government agencies to reduce the oil spillage, gas flaring among other environmentally adverse activities, which have affected the lives of the people in the region.

The pandemic response was a thoroughly mediated phenomenon – one that paired digital information technologies with automated logistical systems to address inter-related crises of circulation. In the logistical sphere, automated media were used to manage flows of people, commodities and even (in the case of 'smart' ventilation systems) air itself. In the media realm, automated systems played a role in circulating timely notifications and alerts and in detecting and responding to false information. This theme issue brings together an interdisciplinary group of researchers focused on the analysis of automated control and response systems, including the networked devices and infrastructures that supported them, and the digital forms of data collection and processing they enabled. This introductory essay focuses on some organizing themes that emerge from the theme issue contributions, including the relationship between automation and the temporality of viral contagion, logics of pre-emptive intervention and forms of atmospheric and environmental control.

This paper investigates the role of social media in mobilizing environmentalism amid authoritarian restrictions, focusing on the Vietnam coastal pollution of 2016. It contributes to current academic debates by showing how elements that are apparently mundane and irrelevant become the stage for political action within social media. We examined the interface of connective actions (social media activism) – collective actions (protests) and the role of food symbolism in translating digital activism into physical resistance that bridges the distance between rural and urban areas. Data were collected from Facebook and Twitter, as well as semi-structured interviews, policy documents, and national newspapers and broadcasts. Food symbolism, exemplified by #ichoosefish, helped personalize grievances and materialize protest actions amid the government's countermeasures. The results further show that by using social media, especially Facebook, the activists managed to rationalize their political engagement in a non-participatory context and mobilize protests during political restrictions by arguing that their 'apolitical' actions were motivated by food-based grievances associated with personal, environmentalist and nationalist concerns. Food symbolism is thus essential in transitioning from connective actions to collective actions.

Researchers, game designers, and consumers place great hopes into the potential benefits of virtual reality (VR) technology on the user experience in digital games. Indeed, initial empirical research has shown that VR technology can improve the gaming experience in a number of ways compared to traditional desktop gaming, for instance by amplifying immersion and flow. However, on the downside, a mismatch between physical locomotion and the movements of the avatar in the virtual world can also lead to unpleasant feelings when using VR technology - often referred to as cybersickness. One solution to this problem may be the implementation of novel passive repositioning systems (also called omnidirectional treadmills) that are designed to allow a continuous, more natural form of locomotion in VR. In the current study, we investigate how VR technology and the use of an omnidirectional treadmill influence the gaming experience. Traditional desktop gaming, VR gaming, and omnidirectional treadmill gaming are compared in a one-factorial experimental design (N = 203). As expected, we found that VR gaming on the one hand leads to higher levels of flow, presence, and enjoyment, but at the same time also is accompanied by higher levels of cybersickness than traditional desktop gaming. The use of the omnidirectional treadmill did not significantly improve the gaming experience and also did not reduce cybersickness. However, this more physically demanding form of locomotion may make omnidirectional treadmills interesting for exergame designers.

Siūlomas skaitmeninių vietovės modeliųsudarymo algoritmas leidžia efektyviai naudoti lazerinio skenavimo (LIDAR) taškų duomenis. SummaruThere are many domains where the modelling, analysis and visualization of three-dimensional spatial data can be useful. The paper discusses the issues concerning the modelling of aerodrome obstacle limitation surfaces. They can help to detect obstacle in the flight path of an aircraft. To this end, digital relief and site models need to be created together with obstacle limitation surface models. A fast and effective algorithm of creating three-dimensional digital site model which uses airborne laser scanning (LIDAR) data is proposed. The 3D visualization and analysis of the model are also discussed. The paper presents the experimental Akis-AER software designed to detect potential obstacles around an aerodrome and assess whether it is safe to install a new construction or to increase the height of the existing one in the navigating space around the aerodrome.

Este estudo objetivou investigar e analisar a necessidade de expansão da educação a distância no ensino superior, bem como a possibilidade de esse novo paradigma oferecer educação com a qualidade necessária para enfrentamento dos desafios de socialização do conhecimento. Foi elaborado por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica que alcançou contribuições teóricas sobre a relevância do conhecimento para o desenvolvimento mundial e de pessoas, educação, pesquisas sobre demanda e oferta de vagas no ensino superior, estudo comparativo entre ensino tradicional e ensino a distância, referenciais para educação a distância de qualidade, entrevistas em reportagens com professores e autoridades educacionais e relatos sobre experiências em aulas não presenciais. O trabalho indica que há demanda reprimida e crescente por vagas no ensino superior, que a infra-estrutura do País não é capaz de gerar a quantidade de vagas demandadas, e que o ensino a distância é capaz de ensejar educação de qualidade.
