To deal with the climate crisis we need a new paradigm of technological and social development aimed at the restoration of ecological systems - the bio-digital energy paradigm. How do we get to this paradigm? The book draws on more than 250 interviews across 17 key countries to present a practical answer this question. We need a strong state to lead. There are four possible leaders - the EU, US, China and India. China is best placed to lead. It is building experimental cities like eco-cities and sponge cities out of which could grow the climate survival governance that the world badly needs.

This book critically reviews state-religion models and the ways in which different countries manage religious diversity, illuminating different responses to the challenges encountered in accommodating both majorities and minorities. The country cases encompass eight world regions and 23 countries, offering a wealth of research material suitable to support comparative research. Each case is analysed in depth looking at historical trends, current practices, policies, legal norms and institutions. By looking into state-religion relations and governance of religious diversity in regions beyond Europe, we gain insights into predominantly Muslim countries (Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia), countries with pronounced historical religious diversity (India and Lebanon) and into a predominantly migrant pluralist nation (Australia). These insights can provide a basis for re-thinking European models and learning from experiences of governing religious diversity in other socio-economic and geopolitical contexts. Key analytical and comparative reflections inform the introduction and concluding chapters. This volume offers a research and study companion to better understand the connection between state-religion relations and the governance of religious diversity in order to inform both policy and research efforts in accommodating religious diversity. Given its accessible language and further readings provided in each chapter, the volume is ideally suited for undergraduate and graduate students. It will also be a valuable resource for researchers working in the wider field of ethnic, migration, religion and citizenship studies

"The era of hybrid governance is here. More and more organizations occupy a position between public and private ownership. And value is created not through business or public interests alone, but through distinct forms of hybrid governance. National governments are looking to transform their administrative systems to become more business driven. Likewise, private enterprises are seeing value gains in promoting public interest in their corporate social responsibility programs. But how can we conceptualize, evaluate and measure the value and performance of hybrid governance and organizations? This book offers a comprehensive overview of how hybrids produce value. It explores the drivers, obstacles and complications for value creation in different hybrid contexts: state-owned enterprises, urban policy-making, universities and non-profits from around the world. The authors address several types of value contents, for instance financial, social and public value. Furthermore, the book provides a novel way of understanding multiple forms of doing value in hybrid settings. The book explains mixing, compromising and legitimising as important mechanisms of value creation. Aimed at researchers and students of public management, public administration, business management, corporate social responsibility and governance, this book provides a theoretical, conceptual and empirical understanding of value creation in hybrid organizations. It is also an invaluable overview of performance evaluation and measurement systems and practices in hybrid organizations and governance"--

"The relationship between humans and technology is one of immense progress. It encompasses many life-changing inventions like fire and electricity, which have had an overall positive impact on humanity. But technology is developing so rapidly that we rarely take a moment to reflect on whether we are shaping technology or whether it is shaping us. How much do you know about emerging technologies such as deep learning, blockchain and internet of things? Decision-makers must understand how technology affects us and why ethics plays such an essential role in both its development and real-world application. 'Technology and Governance' allows readers to get up to speed with fast-paced technological changes. The author takes complex technical ideas and distils them into user-friendly concepts. Even without detailed knowledge of the mathematics behind artificial intelligence or the computer code behind digital currencies, this book will provide an understanding of technology's present and future impact on society. Casper Jaspers is a tech entrepreneur and a corporate lawyer. He is a guest lecturer in the New Board Program (Nyenrode Business University) and a lecturer at the Centre for Professional Legal Education (CPO)."-- Back cover
This comprehensive Research Handbook is the first study to link law and Earth system science through the epistemic lens of the planetary boundaries framework. It critically examines the legal and governance aspects of the framework, considering not only each planetary boundary, but also a range of systemic issues, including the ability of law to keep us within the planetary boundaries' safe operating space.
