In the article, through the prism of the interdisciplinary methodological approach, the content of knowledge in digital culture conditions and the epistemological peculiarities of the formation of new knowledge are investigated. For this purpose, knowledge is viewed as the result of intellectual activity in the cognitive-social-cultural environment.The article shows that knowledge is transforming into "multi-knowledge" at the modern stage. It can be conceived as a processual gestalt with a multifractal character. Multifractality is used because the viewed object consists of a synthesis of different fractals (self-similarities). Therefore, this article considers knowledge a multifractal system (or network) of "fractal sub-knowledge". In that context, processual gestalt means that this multifractal system (or network) transforms from one phase to another, not fragmentarily, but entirely and whole. On this basis, the new multi-knowledge results from the creative transformation of the existing multi-knowledge as a multifractal unit due to the gestalt process.The following methodological principles are applied in the article: non-linearity, intersubjectivity, emergent interface, and multifractality. It is accepted that there is a close relationship between them.Applying synergistic synthesis and comparative analysis methods within the logical framework of this methodological approach allowed us to obtain concrete results.

How much knowledge do you need to form opinions and talk about them? Located within a broader body of work on the relation between knowledge and attitude formation, this research explores the role of knowledge in the process of deliberation by taking an in-depth look at a real-world deliberation exercise on social welfare in Germany. Deliberative theory is based on the assumption that while deliberating, informed citizens weigh information in order to form 'ideal' opinions. Yet, empirical findings suggest rather low levels of political knowledge among the population. Taking a real-world case of deliberation on social welfare in Germany, this article has two goals: first, it draws on data collected on the level of knowledge regarding the German welfare system to get an initial insight into the distribution of political knowledge, which has been scarce to non-existent to date. Second, it applies a qualitative content analysis to explore the kind of information people in real-world deliberation exercises use as the basis for their arguments and ends with a discussion of the role of knowledge in group attitude-formation processes. While the results confirm previous findings on relatively low levels of political knowledge among the participants, this study raises three further issues that are relevant for understanding the role of knowledge in transferring theoretical deliberative norms and ideals to reality. These issues, which relate to the weighing of arguments, the handling of false or missing information, and the issue of procedural knowledge, are highlighted, and implications for further research and possible procedures for the transfer of normative deliberative goals to real-world deliberations are outlined.

One of the developments based on the approach of Berger and Luckmann focuses on the analysis of discourses and subjectivation processes. The Interpretive Subjectivation Analysis (ISA) takes up these developments in order to establish a research perspective on the decentered subject that combines the theories of the Interpretive Paradigm of Sociology and the post-structuralist concepts of subjectivation as established in Judith Butler's and Michel Foucault's work. This paper outlines a qualitative methodological framework to analyze processes of subjectivation by including and relating empirical data on different levels. In order to show how this type of research can broaden the perspective on human subjectivities, the article discusses different empirical studies that focus on questions of inequality and marginalization.

Inwiefern setzen sich neoliberale Orientierungen auf dem hochschulpolitischen Feld durch? Hristina Markova greift in ihrer Studie die Frage der »Ökonomisierung« der Wissenschaft auf und zeigt, welche Spuren der neoliberale Diskurs in den kollektiven Wissensvorräten hinterlassen hat. Zahlreiche Reformen wie die Einführung von Studiengebühren, der Bologna-Prozess und die Exzellenzinitiative deuten auf einen Wandel der Denkmuster hin: Nicht mehr die Gewährleistung der formalen Gleichheit zwischen den Universitäten scheint im Vordergrund politischer Bemühungen zu stehen, sondern die Förderung von Wettbewerb, Profilierung und Autonomie. Politische Maßnahmen wie die Exzellenzinitiative werden häufig als eine Ökonomisierungsstrategie aufgefasst und kritisch reflektiert. Ungeklärt blieb bisher jedoch die Frage, welche sozialen Deutungsmuster die Funktionsträger im Feld der Hochschulpolitik in Deutschland aktivieren, wenn sie sich über die aktuellen hochschulpolitischen Reformen äußern. Mit welchen Bedeutungen werden Begriffe wie »Leistung«, »Exzellenz«, »Hochschulautonomie«, »Wettbewerb« und »Profilierung« im hochschulpolitischen Feld belegt? Die qualitative Studie beleuchtet aus sozialkonstruktivistisch-wissenssoziologischer Perspektive die als selbstverständlich reproduzierten Deutungen von Entscheidungsträgern, wenn sie über die Exzellenzinitiative als politische Idee sprechen. Somit liefert die vorliegende Untersuchung einen empirischen Zugang zu der These des Einzugs ökonomischer Kalküle und Denkweisen ins hochschulpolitische Feld

"Action research provides a framework for developing practice in healthcare.
While developing practice typically implies a combination of patient
centeredness, quality improvement and change, conflicts arise in how
concepts such as patient centredness are defined. Developing practice
invites attention to positionality and engagement with policy directives,
trends in clinical care, and other disciplines each with their own language
stratification reflecting particular sets of values and beliefs. Our process of
engagement is value-based, requiring attention to different and often conflicting
languages or worldviews. We understand practice development as
responding to different calls from the system, our individual disciplines,
patients and changing discourses in healthcare, each exerting different
pressures at different times. This paper describes an action research project
aimed at developing nursing practice through engaging with two conflicting
philosophies of care. We illustrate the contribution made by a particular
understanding of Bildung to engaging with positionality, different
voices in healthcare and the context of care in a complex environment.
Bildung, as self-cultivation, invites engagement with other as an underpinning
for developing practice beginning with first person inquiry. The
idea of Bildung drew attention to the local moral world of nursing and the
experience of dual citizenship. Dual citizenship reflected engagement with
conflicting care philosophies and notions of evidence." (author's abstract)

The first interdisciplinary workshop in 2003 – like
two other meetings before in 1999 and 2000 organized
by the Augsburg- and Munich-based working group on discourse
analysis in cooperation with the section sociology of
knowledge in the German Society of Sociology – focused
on theoretical and methodological interconnections between
discourse theory, social (re-) production of knowledge and
the role of cultural frames. The major aim was on unraveling
the implications of the French discourse tradition for the
ongoing German debate about discourse analysis and theory,
especially considering possible links or barriers between
a (post-) FOUCAULDIAN perspective and actual
contributions to sociology of knowledge. A second focus
was centered about chances and limitations of applied discourse
research and analysis in various fields of practice.
Continuing participants' statements and reports concerning
methodological and practical problems in doing discourse
analysis and presenting the findings the second workshop in
June 2004 opened up an interdisciplinary forum to discuss
ongoing research projects. By this the meeting gave the
chance to prove and ensure adequate theoretical positions as
well as methodological basics and methods for the participants'
own projects.

This edited volume is devoted to analysing transnational expertise, a topic that has received considerable attention in the social sciences and history, especially in research on transnational professional networks and associations, epistemic communities and groups of practitioners. Yet more knowledge about transnational expertise is needed, given the growing importance of expertise in an ever more complex world in which interdependencies between different types of actors and organisations are increasing and in which these actors often have to cooperate to address transnational issues. While studies regarding the above-mentioned concepts have generally involved empirical cases of expertise in the context of transnational governance since the end of the Cold War, transnational expertise actually played an important role long before 1990. Therefore, this volume adopts an interdisciplinary approach that includes perspectives from history, sociology and political science.With contributions byIngvild Bode, Christian Henrich-Franke, Robert Kaiser, Christian Lahusen, Alexander Reinfeld, Lukas Schemper, Andrea Schneiker and Carola Maria Westermeier.

Auf allen Ebenen (kulturell, ökonomisch, politisch u.s.w.) verbindet sich mit der Entwicklung des Internets ein bedeutsamer Wandel von Handlungs- und Erfahrungsbedingungen. Im Zuge der "Online-Vergesellschaftung" (Jäckel/Mai) ändern sich Voraussetzungen, Potentiale, Zwänge und Probleme der Wirklichkeitskonstruktion grundlegend und systematisch. Der Band versammelt Untersuchungen, die diesem Wandel mit wissenssoziologischen Mitteln nachgehen. Privilegiert wird eine Perspektive, die alle relevanten sozialen Ordnungsebenen einschließt (Interaktion, Feld/Subsystem, Gesellschaft), ein Netzwerkkonzept beinhaltet, den Akteur fokussiert und historisch-differenzierungstheoretisch ausgerichtet ist.

Technikeinstellungen als Persönlichkeitsmerkmal von Technikstudenten und Studenten weiterer Fachrichtungen ist Gegenstand des Teilberichts über die dritte Etappe einer Studenten-Intervallstudie Leistung, die vom Zentralinstitut für Jugendforschung (ZIJ) der DDR 1982 bis 1985 durchgeführt wurde. 2755 Studenten wurden befragt zu (1) Einstellungen zum wissenschaftlich-technischen Fortschritt (WtF); (2) Einstellungen zum Umgang mit Technik; (3) Heranführung an Technik vor Studienbeginn; (4) Informationsverhalten. Modern zu sein heißt, Prävention zu betreiben. Beginnend im Zeitalter der Aufklärung bis in die jüngste Vergangenheit lässt sich die gemeinsame Entstehungs- und Verflechtungsgeschichte von Prävention und Moderne nachweisen. Die vorliegende genealogisch angelegte Studie zeigt am Beispiel der Krankheitsvorbeugung in Deutschland (und darüber hinaus) auf, auf welchen Wegen unsere Kultur gelernt hat, potenzielle Gesundheitsschäden in der Zukunft als aktuelle Probleme zu behandeln. Dazu werden zunächst die zwei dominanten Kulturen der Vorbeugung im Zeitalter der Aufklärung untersucht. Während die Diätetik zur Ausbildung eines präventiven Selbstverhältnisses beizutragen versuchte, legte die Medicinalpolicey den Grundstein für die staatliche Gesundheitspolitik. Individuums- und bevölkerungsbezogene Präventionsformen standen sich zu dieser Zeit noch vergleichsweise unverbunden gegenüber. Die Analyse verdeutlicht anhand der Kategorien der Infektionskrankheit, der sozialen Pathologie und der Erbkrankheit, dass erst in den Jahren zwischen 1848 und 1945 langsam ein systematischer Zusammenhang zwischen Individual- und Kollektivgesundheit hergestellt wurde. Abschließend wird die rechtsstaatliche Neuausrichtung des biopolitischen Regierens nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg diskutiert, in deren Folge die Einschränkung individueller Freiheitsrechte im Namen des kollektiven Gesundheitsschutzes zunehmend als problematisch empfunden wurde, allerdings ohne gänzlich darauf zu verzichten. In einer Verbindung von Quellen- mit Begriffsarbeit wird in der vorliegenden Arbeit ein charakteristisches Verlaufsmuster in der Geschichte moderner Krankheitsprävention rekonstruiert. Auf diese Weise ist die Arbeit zugleich ein Plädoyer dafür, die soziologische Theoriebildung wieder stärker an die historische Forschung anzubinden. Zudem werden die Probleme und Grenzen biopolitischen Regierens unter den Bedingungen funktionaler Differenzierung einsichtig. Das zentrale Forschungsanliegen, das der Dissertation zugrunde liegt, besteht in einer Analyse potentieller Relationen zwischen der augenfälligen Prominenz des Begriffs der Wissensgesellschaft (einerseits) und der im vergangenen Jahrzehnt beobachtbaren Zunahme von 'öffentlichkeitswirksamen' Formaten der Wissenschaftspopularisierung (andererseits). Im ersten Teil der Arbeit werden Theorien der Wissensgesellschaft sowie die politische und die sozialwissenschaftliche Debatte um diese Zeitdiagnose vorgestellt. Aus einer vergleichenden Gegenüberstellung unterschiedlicher kursierender Begriffsverständnisse wird eine systematisierende Typologie ursprünglicher und aktueller Charakterisierungen von Wissensgesellschaften – einschließlich artverwandter gesellschaftlicher Szenarien – abgeleitet. Im zweiten Teil der Arbeit werden Praxisfelder der Wissenschaftspopularisierung und ihre jeweils typischen Praxisprobleme skizziert. Daran anschließend werden die Verwendungsweisen des Begriffs 'Wissensgesellschaft' in den Praxisfeldern 'Popularisierungsinitiativen', 'Wissenschaftsjournalismus' und 'Science Centers' (mithilfe der dramatologischen Perspektive) daraufhin interpretiert, inwiefern der Begriff 'Wissensgesellschaft' zur Legitimation der Wissenschaftspopularisierung eingesetzt wird und ob anhand der Thematisierung von Wissensgesellschaft in den genannten Praxisbereichen die (Mit-)Konstruktion einer Wissensgesellschaft erkennbar wird. Unter Einbezug verschiedener Öffentlichkeitstheorien werden die Fragen nach zukünftigen Entwicklungstrends in diversen Praxisbereichen der Wissenschaftspopularisierung bearbeitet sowie die Möglichkeit der Konstruktion einer Wissensgesellschaft erörtert.
