Institution, Financial Sector, and Economic Growth: Use The Institutions As An Instrument Variable
Institution has been investigated having indirect role on economic growth. This paper aims to evaluate whether the quality of institution matters for economic growth. By applying institution as instrumental variable at Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), quality of institution significantly influence economic growth. This study applies two set of data period, namely 1985-2013 and 2000-2013, available online in the World Bank (WB). The first data set, 1985-2013 is used to estimate the role of financial sector on economic growth, focuses on 67 countries. The second data set, 2000-2013 determine the role of institution on financial sector and economic growth by applying 2SLS estimation method. We define institutional variables as set of indicators: Control of Corruption, Political Stability and Absence of Violence, and Voice and Accountability provide declining impact of FDI to economic growth.

The coevolution of industries and national institutions: theory and evidence
In: Discussion Papers / Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung, Forschungsschwerpunkt Markt und politische Ökonomie, Band 02-14
"A survey across space and time reveals that leading firms operating in global industries often cluster in one or a few countries. The paper argues that nations differ in how successful they are in a particular industry because coevolutionary processes linking a particular industry and national institutions powerfully shape the path of an industry.s development. Across a wide range of contexts, scientific progress and industrial leadership reinforce each other in spirals of cumulative national advantage. A historical case study of synthetic dyes from 1857 to 1914 provides a dramatic example of how these positive feedback processes gave German organic chemistry and German dye firms a dominant position in the world. Over time, the relative strength of a nation in a particular industry and the capability of the country in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline display a strong positive correlation. Additional shorter case studies of agriculture, packaged software, and biotechnology support this induced hypothesis. We argue that the exchange of personnel between industry and academic institutions, the formation of commercial ties between them, lobbying on each other's behalf and direct support from state agencies constitute causal mechanisms that can explain why successful firms often cluster in particular countries." Moderne Demokratie zwischen Institution und Instruktion
In: Themenschwerpunkt: Politische Ethik, S. 3-18
"In his work Toward Perpetual Peace Kant states the famous contention: 'The problem of establishing a state ... is soluble even for a nation of devils (if only they have understanding) ...'. Since we are dealing with human beings we have to ask whether they have enough understanding for building a state - perhaps even a just state. The article states that this depends partially also an local customs and the capacities of men to use the different political institutions. Therefore it takes up parts of the criticisms which the two main protagonists of the capability approach toward justice uttered against Rawls' institutionalist conception of justice, stating that both authors give more something like a completion and necessary 'amendments' of the approach given by Rawls instead of a new and alternative view of justice. Nevertheless, the capability approach offers a way to involve actually living people more immediately and directly into political, legal on moral discourse than a purely Kantian - and also a purely Rawlsian - approach can do."
Geschlechterkonstruktionen in pädagogischen Institutionen
(ICE2)
