This book examines trends and challenges in research on IT governance in public organizations, reporting innovative research and new insights in the theories, models and practices within the area. As we noticed, IT governance plays an important role in generating value from organization's IT investments. However there are different challenges for researchers in studying IT governance in public organizations due to the differences between political, administrative, and practices in these organizations. The first section of the book looks at Management issues, including an introduction to IT governance in public organizations; a systematic review of IT alignment research in public organizations; the role of middle managers in aligning strategy and IT in public service organizations; and an analysis of alignment and governance with regard to IT-related policy decisions. The second section examines Modelling, including a consideration of the challenges faced by public administration; a discussion of a framework for IT governance implementation suitable to improve alignment and communication between stakeholders of IT services; the design and implementation of IT architecture; and the adoption of enterprise architecture in public organizations. Finally, section three presents Case Studies, including IT governance in the context of e-government strategy implementation in the Caribbean; the relationship of IT organizational structure and IT governance performance in the IT department of a public research and education organization in a developing country; the relationship between organizational ambidexterity and IT governance through a study of the Swedish Tax Authorities; and the role of institutional logics in IT project activities and interactions in a large Swedish hospital.

What is the political allure, value and currency of emotions within contemporary cultures of governanceWhat does it mean to govern more humanelySince the emergence of an emotional turn in human geography over the last decade, the notion that our emotions matter in understanding an array of social practices, spatial formations and aspects of everyday life is no longer seen as controversial. This book brings recent developments in emotional geography into dialogue with social policy concerns and contemporary issues of governance. It sets the intellectual scene for research into the geographical dimensions of the emotionalized states of the citizen, policy maker and public service worker, and highlights new research on the emotional forms of governance which now characterise public life. An international range of empirical field studies are used to examine issues of regulation, modification, governance and potential manipulation of emotional affects, professional and personal identities and political technologies. Contributors provide analysis of the role of emotional entanglements in policy strategy, policy implementation, service delivery, citizenship and participation as well as considering the emotional nature of the research process itself. It will be of interest to researchers and students within social policy, human geography, politics and related disciplines. --

The reader entitled "Governance and Regulation in the EU" frames research and teaching at the Centre for European Integration Studies (ZEI). The dynamic interplay between governance and regulation shapes the EU, its impact on citizens' lives and its role globally. This book offers interdisciplinary perspectives on the important relationship between governance and regulation, and on the increasingly complex process of European integration. Its authors include distinguished academics and professional experts who form the Faculty of ZEI's postgraduate programme "Master of European Studies – Governance and Regulation", through which they come together to share their perspectives and knowledge. Die Umgestaltung des Wissenschaftssystems der letzten Jahre und die neue Goverance an Hochschulen verändern sowohl Gleichstellungspolitik als auch Geschlechterverhältnisse in der Wissenschaft. Erkenntnisse aus der Forschung und Reflektionen der Praxis zu diesem Themenfeld treten in der soeben erschienen Tagungsdokumentation "Neue Governance und Gleichstellung der Geschlechter in der Wissenschaft" in den Dialog.
Seit den 1980er Jahren befindet sich das deutsche wie das europäische Wissenschaftssystem in einem tiefgreifenden Umgestaltungsprozess. Die Übernahme von Managementprinzipien in Steuerung von Wissenschaft und Hochschulen ('New Public Management'), gewandelte Beziehungen zwischen Staat und Hochschulen ('Hochschulautonomie'),die vertikale Differenzierung der Hochschullandschaft ('Exzellenzinitiative') oder der Rückgang der grundständigen Finanzierung zugunsten von Drittmittel- und projektbezogener Finanzierung sind einige der Schlaglichter auf diesen Wandel. Inwiefern Gleichstellungsforderungen in diese Neuorganisation des Wissenschaftssystems integriert werden und wie sich die Rahmenbedingungen für Gleichstellungspolitik und Gleichstellungsarbeit durch den beschriebenen Umstrukturierungsprozess verändern, war Thema der Tagung "Neue Governance und Gleichstellung der Geschlechter in der Wissenschaft", die am 6./7. Oktober 2017 als gemeinsame Veranstaltung der Universität Paderborn (Birgit Riegraf und Christina Möller) und des Kompetenzzentrums Frauen in Wissenschaft und Forschung (CEWS) des GESIS Leibniz-Instituts für Sozialwissenschaften/Köln (Andrea Löther und Kathrin Samjeske) stattfand. Die Broschüre dokumentiert die Debatten und Verständigungsprozesse der Tagung.
