It is abundantly clear that the material benefits of modernization and Westernization are unfairly distributed to the people of the planet. Industrial capitalism has been built upon the violence of conquest, genocide, slavery, debt and bondage. Extermination continues today, especially that of indigenous and ethnic people. Inequality and exploitation lead to tension and conflict. Although many conflicts are expressed in ethnic terms, the underlying issues are often class based and rooted in the social structures of the global economic system. As social disparities and resistance increase, people have to be managed more and more through violent repression. Thus, we have a situation where the global economy is predominantly a military economy and the world's leading nations are producing the weapons perpetuating the situation. The common agenda of different social movements must be firmly placed on a non-violent and spiritual path. This is the only way they can overcome the violence and destructiveness of the dominant world order.

Against the background of ever greater levels of ethnic polarization between all three of Punjab's major religious traditions, and a resulting tendency for each tradition to be represented in essentialistic terms, this paper sets out to show that the historical roots of these tendencies are extremely shallow. Developing a counter-view, the paper suggests that such politically-driven understandings of the religious scene in Punjab are strongly Euro-centric in character, and argues that a greater sensitivity to the logic of popular ideas and practices, together with an awareness of the different levels at which Punjabi religion operates reveals a much higher level of overlap between the three traditions than current discourse normally allows for.

The evolution of Scandinavian policy on aid to developing countries over the past twenty-five years, especially in Sweden, is examined. Several phases are outlined: (1) a shift from aid channeled through the UN & other international organizations to direct bilateral aid; (2) a more radical turn around 1970 toward socialist-oriented countries at the expense of more conservative ones; & (3) a policy geared more directly to the short-term economic interests of the donor countries. In contrast to this recent development stands a political philosophy favoring substantial aid commitments independent of whether the government in power is social-democratic or liberal-conservative. Economic pressure is claimed to have resulted in reduced differences between the countries in amount & orientation of aid. 3 Tables. Modified HA
In this masterful choreography of legal philosophy, legal history, and comparative law, Alan Watson draws from ancient Roman, English, and French law to assess how lawmakers fail to envision ways to provide society with laws geared toward precise political or social goals
This book takes issues in the theory and philosophy of education in general, and specifically takes stock of issues of currency in the history and development of education in Tanzania and other countries, especially where recent innovations and experiments serve a useful comparative function

Although multiculturalism is a fact of modern societies, political representation and fundamental rights must be adequate in order to make it operational. This paper will review the proposals which have been put forward in the field of political philosophy. For this purpose, the case-law of two international courts (The Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the European Court of Human Rights) will be contrasted. The main thesis of this paper is that political representation and fundamental rights, which are operational in multicultural environments, should be especially considered when interpreting and weighting these rights, in order to facilitate dialogue and cultural acknowledgement.

Motivation for the choice of topic: The covid-19 pandemic has restructured the entire health care system. As systems of care were overwhelmed, many health professionals in related professional areas became increasingly involved in providing medical aid. The present paper aims to highlight a comparative analysis between two psychiatric wards of the same hospital, with qualified medical staff, with similar levels of competence, one of the wards caring for patients exclusively with major psychiatric pathologies, and the other patients with associated SARS-COV2 infection. The objective is to highlight links between different variables, such as motivation versus amotivation, anxiety and/or burnout, work experience, and resilience, all of which also relate to decisions to accept and provide quality medical care to this particular category of patients. Methodology Application of specific questionnaires and scales on a group of 60 medical workers in two psychiatric wards, one of which was declared a ward working with psychiatric patients with covid. Results: Resident doctors, then nurses, followed by hospital attendants, attending physicians and lastly psychologists, cope in descending order with professional stress related to covid-19 anxiety. This is high and correlates positively with depression and burn-out - which, in the case of young people, risks demotivating them to the point of destroying their future plans and the hope of successful professional self-esteem. Conclusions: The covid-19 pandemic in a psychiatric hospital has raised anxieties even among medical staff, who have moved from somatic to psychiatric care over the years, and the comorbidity of mental illness and SARS-COV2 infection has raised particular problems. Among staff, anxiety, risk of depression, burnout, with depletion of compensatory resources have increased. Resilience calls for the use of mature defence mechanisms and professional experience protects against anxiety and burnout.

The aim of this study is to reconstruct – based on the creative heritage of F.M. Dostoevsky – by means of histor-ical and philosophical analysis his concept of patriotism, which is an integral part of the philosophical worldview of the great writer and thinker. Dostoevsky's patriotism included adoration of Russian history and culture, Orthodoxy as the highest and purest form of Christianity, respectful attitude to world culture and anti-Zionism, criticized by the thinker as an antipode of the Russian idea of universal humanity. Through his work Dostoevsky tried to create a synthesis of Slavophilism and Westernism, taking from these heterogeneous and contradictory spiritual currents all the best, in particular – the Slavophiles' love for the Fatherland and the West-erners' desire for world culture and European education. The methodological basis of this work includes the hermeneutic method as the interpretation and recon-struction of meanings, comparative historical analysis, and philosophical comparative studies.

In the 225 years since the United States Constitution was first drafted, no single book has addressed the key questions of what constitutions are designed to do, how they are structured, and why they matter. In From Words to Worlds, constitutional scholar Beau Breslin corrects this glaring oversight, singling out the essential functions that a modern, written constitution must incorporate in order to serve as a nation's fundamental law.Breslin lays out and explains the basic functions of a modern constitution—including creating a new citizenry, structuring the institutions of government, regulating conflict between layers and branches of government, and limiting the power of the sovereign. He also discusses the theoretical concepts behind the fundamentals of written constitutions and examines in depth some of the most important constitutional charters from around the world. In assaying how states put structural ideas into practice, Breslin asks probing questions about why—and if—constitutions matter.Solidly argued and engagingly written, this comparative study in constitutional thought demonstrates clearly the key components that a state's foundational document must address. Breslin draws a critically important distinction between constitutional texts and constitutional practice.
