History teaching is particularly important to increase intercultural dialogue between people who live in different countries. History textbooks should reveal history in all its complexity, promoting democratic values, tolerance, and cooperation for a better future, without creating prejudice or negative visions of others. This research is focused on history teaching referring to the recommendations of Council of Europe (COE) and their implementation in Albania and Kosovo curricula. The method used in this research integrates both qualitative and quantitative analysis referring to the content of history textbooks in a comparative approach. We used a questionnaire to understand teachers' feelings about COE recommendations and if they are implemented in history texts. Referring to the results, the recommendations of COE are not fully reflected even though they are mentioned in pre-university' curricula framework. Meanwhile, the questionnaire submitted by the teachers shows to what extent they know the COE recommendations and how much these recommendations develop student's competencies.

"This book presents a review of historical and emerging legal issues that concern the interpretation of the international crime of genocide. The Polish legal expert Raphael Lemkin formulated the concept of genocide during the Nazi occupation of Europe which was then incorporated into the 1948 Convention against the Crime of Genocide. This volume looks at the issues that are raised both by the existing international law definition of genocide and by the possible developments that continue to emerge under international criminal law. The authors consider how the concept of genocide might be used in different contexts and see whether the definition in the 1948 Convention may need some revision, also in the light of the original ideas that were expressed by Lemkin. The book focuses on specific themes that allow the reader to understand some of the problems related to the legal definition of genocide, in the context of historical and recent developments. "Drawing upon experiences from Scandinavia and Germany this paper argues, that any action research project should be aware of the sociopolitical context, in which it is taking place and which it is a part of. As a consequence I concentrate on a socio-political perspective on action research rather than on the often used and in European AR discussion prevailing micro perspective on the single action research case. Experiences from Germany and Scandinavia demonstrate that programmes for work life reform as a framework for participative action research do not have any chance without being able to create support from broad socio-political coalitions. The question therefore is: Which is the socio-political context enabling action research as part of action and research programmes in the field of work life reform?" (author's abstract)

Der Übersichtsartikel erörtert aus einer anthropologischen Perspektive die Geschichte der Afrikastudien in Deutschland. Dabei orientieren sich die Ausführungen an der Annahme, dass die spezifischen Streitfragen die bekannten Merkmale der Ethnizität widerspiegeln, deren Dynamik auch in der Untersuchung der akademischen Gruppenidentität festgestellt werden kann. Dem gemäß wird die Entwicklung der Afrikastudien in Anbetracht der sich wandelnden Beziehungen unter und zwischen den verschiedenen konstituierenden Segmenten des Forschungsfeldes untersucht. Dazu stellt der Autor fest, dass der eigentümliche Status des 'Dazwischen-Seins' deutscher Afrikastudien unter dem Einfluss von Großbritannien und Frankreich der Forschung in Deutschland eine Sonderposition gegenüber den übrigen europäischen Afrikastudien verleiht. Die Erläuterung beginnt mit einer Skizzierung der Anfänge afrikanischer Studien in Deutschland während der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts. Das zweite Kapitel beschreibt die Zeitspanne zwischen den beiden Weltkriegen, die so genannte 'klassische Periode' deutscher Forschung zu Afrika. Im Anschluss folgt die Weiterentwicklung der Disziplin vom Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs bis zur deutschen Wiedervereinigung. Das vierte und fünfte Kapitel liefern einen Überblick zu den gegenwärtigen Entwicklungen und informieren über die zukünftige Rolle deutscher Afrikastudie im europäischen Kontext. (ICG2)

Das vorliegende Buch befaßt sich mit den unterschiedlichen Aspekten der Beziehungen zwischen Deutschland und Osteuropa im 20. Jahrhundert. In zahlreichen Beiträgen werden unterschiedliche Schwerpunkte beleuchtet. Dazu gehören Geopolitik, Sprache, lokale Selbstverwaltung in Transformationsländern sowie historische Entwicklungen. Ebenso wird die Bedeutung der Staaten Ungarn, Serbien, Bulgarien und Kroatien für die Bundesrepublik untersucht. Auch die Frage um die Mitgliedschaft Osteuropas in der EU wird diskutiert.
