Abstract
The paper deals with the state of the social sciences after the boom of internet services in the Czech Republic in the 1990s. The results of our survey, based on 512 responses from the economics and history departments of major Czech public universities, show that internet services are considered a quality factor for academic output; however, the issues of plagiarism, a lack of resource criticism, inadequacy of impact factor-based evaluations, poor academic training for the new generation of social scientists, the failure of state academic policy, and the generation gap make further development in the Czech social sciences rather problematic. As a result we recommend creating a better communication link between policy makers and scholars, reforming the current state policy which encourages lower quality academic output, and improving academic training, which requires a more individual approach, and also placing higher demands on social scientists.
Decolonizing regional planning from the Global South: Active geographies and social struggles in Northeastern Brazil
International audience ; This paper addresses the engagement of critical geographers from Northeastern Brazil with regional planning, aiming at transforming society by acting on their region's spaces. Extending and putting in relation literature on planning theory in the Global South and geographical scholarship on decoloniality, I explore new archives showing how the planning work that these geographers performed from 1957 to 1964 was an example of the 'South' re-elaborating and putting into practice notions arising from 'international' literature, such as that of 'active geography', and pioneering critical uses of instruments, such as mappings and statistics, that have often been associated with technocracy and political conservatism. Connected with peasants' struggles and with a theoretical framework that is cognisant of the colonial histories and insurgent Black and indigenous traditions in the Northeast, these geographers' works show that there is no 'Southern Theory' without a concrete engagement of scholars with social and political problems, one which is not limited to 'participation', but aims at challenging the political powers in place. Although not devoid of contradictions that are analysed here, the experiences of these Southern geographers acting in and for the South can provide precious insights into current (Northern or Southern) scholarly programmes aimed at resisting oppression.

The place of plants and biodiversity in the urban environment, between necessity and social acceptance ; La place du végétal et de la biodiversité en milieu urbain, entre nécessité et acceptation sociale
In search of attractiveness, the city of Bar-le-Duc is banking on a greening plan to make its streets more pleasant. The task of setting up the project was entrusted to the CAUE, assistant to the project owner, to support the officials. This brief compiles the pre-project stages aimed to define the possible directions for the town planning. The aim is to analyse the issues inherent in the presence of vegetation in urban environments, to analyse the existing situation in various local contexts and then to propose solutions to the municipality, taking into account the local context. In reading these lines and tracing the steps of the mission, it is observable that ecological issues, which are increasingly at the centre of the concerns of state policies, are not necessarily the natural orientations in the project approaches in modest-sized municipalities. Indeed, municipalities are faced with intrinsically more important short-term issues regarding the sustainability of their city management teams. It is therefore subject to several challenges, which translate into constraints, that this production proposes a vision of the implementation of a greening plan in a specific local context: Bar-le-Duc.
