Conspiracy theories have been associated to a paranoid way of thinking; however they are not always marginal and utterly irrational. Conspiracist narratives reflect rival strategies of interpretation, and can have a real impact on the social and political praxis. More than factual accuracy, I suggest that what distinguishes a conspiracy theory is a type of discourse, its key features being: suspicion, intentionality, personification, speculation and denunciation.This paper examines conspiracy theories that dominated Greek public discourse before and after the economic crisis of the years 2010s, particularly those introduced by political actors as a means of political persuasion and mobilisation. Greek political culture and the discredit of the political system since 2010 led to frequent expressions of distrust towards political elites and foreign "powers". My analysis focuses on the acceptability of conspiracy theories in relation with social representations, dominant stereotypes and widely shared interpretative schemata.The following cases of conspiracy theories are discussed: a) the wildfires that ravaged large parts of Greece in 2007, supposedly set by "foreign agents"; b) the alleged assassination plot in 2008-2009 against the PM Karamanlis by Western / US secret services; c) the conspiracy theories attributing the economic crisis to a deliberate foreign plot against Greece. The paper examines in particular the attribution of blame to presumed "enemies", in line with nationalist discursive themes and stereotypes.
Το άρθρο υποστηρίζει ότι το στερεότυπο «υπερτροφικό και αναποτελεσματικό κράτος - ατροφική κοινωνία πολιτών» που έχει επικρατήσει στην πολιτική κοινωνιολογία ως ερμηνεία της «ελληνικής περίπτωσης» πρέπει να επανεξεταστεί γιατί ούτε η κοινωνία πολιτών ήταν ή είναι «ατροφική» υπό όλες τις όψεις της, ούτε το κράτος ήταν ή είναι τόσο αναποτελεσματικό όσο το στερεότυπο υποθέτει. Καταρχάς ανασκοπεί την προέλευση αυτού του στερεότυπου στη μεταπολιτευτική περίοδο και τα θεωρητικά-πολιτικά συμφρα- ζόμενα μέσα στα οποία διαμορφώθηκε. Κατόπιν σκιαγραφεί τους δρόμους μέσα από τους οποίους οι έννοιες του κράτους και της κοινωνίας των πολιτών αποτελούν σήμερα αντικείμενο ενδιαφέροντος και συζήτησης μεταξύ των κοινωνικών επιστημόνων. Ιδιαίτερη έμφαση δίνει στη συζήτηση για την κοινωνία πολιτών στην Ελλάδα, καθώς διαφοροποιείται από την τρέχουσα χρήση της έννοιας, επιχειρώντας μια διαφορετική προσέγγιση που βασίζεται στη γκραμσιανή οπτική. Επίσης, ανατρέχει στα πρόσφατα πορίσματα της ιστορικής πολιτικής κοινωνιολογίας για τον ρόλο του κράτους στην κοινωνική και οικονομική ανάπτυξη, αξιοποιώντας ιδιαίτερα τον προβληματισμό της λεγάμενης state-society perspective. Τα συμπεράσματα υποστηρίζουν τελικά το επιχείρημα ότι η στερεότυπη σχέση κράτους-κοινωνίας πολιτών στην Ελλάδα πρέπει να επανεξεταστεί.
Το κείμενο παρουσιάζει μια προκαταρκτική επισκόπηση της πολιτισμικής ανάλυσης και της πολιτισμικής κοινωνιολογίας στην Ελλάδα κατά τις τελευταίες τρεις δεκαετίες. Η επισκόπηση βασίζεται σε μια βάση δεδομένων, η οποία περιλαμβάνει δημοσιεύματα σε αυτά τα πεδία και ορισμένα βασικά βιογραφικά στοιχεία των συγγραφέων τους. Υποστηρίζουμε ότι η «πολιτισμική στροφή» τροφοδότησε στη χώρα μας μια αρκετά πλούσια αν και ταυτόχρονα κατακερματισμένη συζήτηση στην οποία δύσκολα μπορεί κανείς να διακρίνει «σχολές σκέψης». Οι Έλληνες μελετητές επικεντρώθηκαν στη μελέτη των αναπαραστάσεων σημαντικών φαινομένων (μεταξύ άλλων της εθνικής ταυτότητας, της μετανάστευσης και του αστικού χώρου) στα ΜΜΕ και τη μαζική/λαϊκή κουλτούρα. Αντίθετα, ενδιαφέρθηκαν πολύ λιγότερο για παραδοσιακά θέματα της πολιτισμικής κοινωνιολογίας και της κοινωνιολογίας του πολιτισμού όπως η πολιτιστική παραγωγή και κατανάλωση και η πολιτιστική πολιτική. Ως αποτέλεσμα των περιορισμένων χρηματοδοτικών ευκαιριών, η έρευνα υπήρξε κυρίως ατομική, μικρής κλίμακας και βασίστηκε σε ποιοτικές μεθόδους.
Το παρόν άρθρο επιχειρεί να παρουσιάσει τοδημόσιο λόγο των κυβερνήσεων για την ευελιξίακαι ασφάλεια (ευελασφάλεια) στην αγορά εργα-σίας, όπως αυτός αποτυπώνεται στις σελίδες τουποιοτικού ευρωπαϊκού τύπου. Ο δημόσιο αυτόςλόγος των κυβερνήσεων έχει ως σκοπό να δι-καιολογήσει και να νομιμοποιήσει την ανάγκηκαι σκοπιμότητα των μεταρρυθμιστικών τουςπρογραμμάτων. Τα δεδομένα από 269 blog posts, αποκαλύπτουν πώς το φεμινιστικό blogging παράγει φεμινιστική γνώση, ταυτότητες και πρακτικές που αμφισβητούν και διαταράσσουν τον ηγεμονικό αυταρχικό, νεοφιλελεύθερο, νέο-αποικιακό και πατριαρχικό λόγο. Συνδυάζοντας τη θεωρία της φεμινιστικής σκοπιάς και την κριτική ανάλυση λόγου ως μέρος του θεωρητικού, αναλυτικού και μεθοδολογικού πλαισίου, προβάλω μια βαθιά κριτική φεμινιστική ανάλυση των δομικών και θεσμικών ανισοτήτων που ενυπάρχουν στα αυταρχικά και καταπιεστικά συστήματα. Αυτή η ανάλυση αποκαλύπτει τις κρίσιμες οπτικές των περιθωριοποιημένων ομάδων που φέρνουν στρατηγικά τα μίκρο-μεσο-και-μάκρο επίπεδα (φωνή, χώρος και ισχύς) σε διάλογο. Αυτά τα συνυφασμένα επίπεδα στο νοηματικό μου πλαίσιο αναδεικνύουν την εναλλακτική πολιτική δύναμη του blogging από το περιθώριο στο προσκήνιο και στην παγκόσμια κινητοποίηση. Το Σχήμα αναδεικνύει τη δυναμική και την στρατηγική διαδικασία στην οποία το φεμινιστικό blogging μπορεί να: οργανώνει την πολιτική δράση στο μίκρο-επίπεδο, υπερβαίνοντας τους δημόσιους χώρους και τα εθνικά σύνορα, συμμετέχει σε διαδικτυακές πλατφόρμες προάσπισης στο μέσο-επίπεδο και επηρεάζει τη δημιουργία διακρατικών φεμινιστικών συμμαχιών στο μάκρο-επίπεδο. Αυτό το Σχήμα βασίστηκε στην έννοια της Wendy Harcourt «glocality» την οποία επεκτείνω στη φεμινιστική μπλογκόσφαιρα, στο πώς, από την εξορία και το περιθώριο στην πρώτη γραμμή των αλληλένδετων γλωσσικών αντιπαραθέσεων, αναδεικνύεται ο αγώνας για κοινωνική αλλαγή. Αυτό το Σχήμα μπορεί να αποτελέσει εργαλείο μελλοντικής ανάλυσης των blogs που εστιάζονται στην πολιτική συμμετοχή. Η διατριβή συμβάλλει επίσης στη βιβλιογραφία για τη Φεμινιστική Θεωρία, τις Γυναικείες Σπουδές, τις Σπουδές των Μέσων Επικοινωνίας, καθώς και στην Πολιτική Κοινωνιολογία διερευνώντας νέους τρόπους αμφισβήτησης των δομών εξουσίας, ειδικά στο πλαίσιο ενός συνεχώς συρρικνωμένου περιβάλλοντος για τα ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα και αυταρχικών τάσεων που αναβιώνουν παγκοσμίως. My primary research question deals with the role of feminist blogging in transcending local boundaries to inform global audiences about human rights violations and to mobilise for collective action. I identify and analyse the multiple discursive ways in which blogging as a feminist practice (re)constructs and (re)conceptualises political participation in the digital era. I explore the diverse strategies of feminist blogging in the struggle over the public sphere. My critical discourse analysis focuses on blogs of ten women in the MENA region–Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen–in the context of the 2011 Arab uprisings. Data from 269 blog posts reveal how feminist blogging produces feminist knowledge, identities and practices that challenge and disrupt hegemonic authoritarian, neoliberal, neo-colonial, and patriarchal discourses. By bringing together feminist standpoint theory and critical discourse analysis, as part of an integrated theoretical, analytical and methodological framework, I offer a deep critical feminist analysis of the structural and institutional inequalities inherent in authoritarian and oppressive systems. This integrated analysis reveals the critical perspectives of marginalised groups strategically bringing the micro, meso and macro levels (voice, space and power) into dialogue. These levels in my conceptualisation and contextualisation interweave to show the alternative political power of blogging from margin to center and global mobilisation. The original contribution of this thesis lies in the development of a new Blog Analysis Schema for political participation. The Schema demonstrates a dynamic and strategic process in which feminist blogging can organise from grassroots political action (micro level), transcend public space(s) and national boundaries, engage in online advocacy platforms (meso level), and influence transnational coalition-building (macro level). This Schema builds upon Wendy Harcourt's concept of 'glocality' to apply to the feminist blogosphere that is, from exile and margin to the forefront of interwoven glocal counterpublics, thus driving the struggle for social change. This Schema may thus constitute a model for future analysis of blogs focusing on political participation. This thesis also contributes to the literature on feminist theory, media and women's studies, as well as political sociology by exploring new ways to challenge power structures, especially in the context of an ever-shrinking human rights environment and the current resurgence of authoritarianism across the globe. In addition, this study contributes to the socio-political and historical accounts of women's struggles in the MENA region and furthermore it demonstrates how Westernised, male-centred understandings of the public sphere exclude the realities of marginalised social groups. Factors such as: greeting and public address, affirmative rhetoric, narrative and situated knowledges, enable alternative forms of political action to expand the notion of political public sphere. These glocal communities bring to the forefront the strategic connections between feminist bloggers and their vehicles of resistance, as well as the transformative power they hold for mobilising transnational feminisms. The political importance of feminist blogging reconceptualising citizenship and political practice allows women to express their situated knowledges, and mobilise collective action for human rights and democracy.
Το άρθρο παρουσιάζει τα επικρατέστερα συστήματα ρύθμισης της αγοράς φαρμάκου διεθνώς, δίνοντας έμφαση σε αυτά που επιβραβεύουν την καινοτομία και αναδεικνύουν τοσημαντικό ρόλο της Αξιολόγησης της Τεχνολογίας Υγείας (ΑΤΥ). Η ανασκόπηση των διεθνώνπροτύπων κρίνεται ιδιαίτερα σημαντική για τηνπαρούσα πολιτική και οικονομική συγκυρίαπου αντιμετωπίζει η χώρα. Ιn a time of political andfinancial turmoil, benefits could be obtainedthrough the pooling of resources andexperiences among various countries. For thispurpose, recent major pharmaceutical reformsin Greece have been critically discussed takinginto consideration the dynamic and complexenvironment among cost containment measuresand the recent implementation of HTA incombination with some of the critical factorsthat influence today's key decision makers, suchas the economic crisis, increasing austerity aswell as political and international pressures.
The effect of European integration on its member states constitutes the new research agenda within the study of European integration. Marked by the "the institutionalist turn" of Anglo-Saxon political sciences, the most dominant theories on europeanisation focus on structural arrangements. Institutional incompatibility between the European and the national level, so the hypothesis, creates pressures for change. Actors are often only considered as mediators of these pressures. Consequentially, few approaches try to explain adaptational change initiated by policy actors in the absence of institutional pressures. Using a political sociology approach, the central concern of this paper is to insist on the political discretion of national actors in translation of European requirements. We believe that understanding not only "adaptation to" but also "usage of" the process of European integration is important to understanding the transformation of European member states. By insisting on usage, we aim at analysing both the strategic interaction of rational actors with the European institutions and the more sociological effect of "usage" - as "daily practice" - on the interest and identities of the actors.

Το παρόν άρθρο εξετάζει το μεταναστευτικό φαινό-μενο στην Ελλάδα κατά τα τελευταία είκοσι χρόνια.Πράγματι, οι οικονομικοί μετανάστες στην Ελλάδα,παρά τις ελλείψεις που παρουσιάζουν τα επίσημαστατιστικά στοιχεία, υπερβαίνουν το ένα εκατομμύ-ριο ατόμων και το μεταναστευτικό φαινόμενο στηνχώρα αποτελεί ένα σημαντικό πεδίο ανάπτυξηςπολιτικών αναφορικά κυρίως με τον σχεδιασμό καιτην υλοποίηση μίας ολοκληρωμένης μεταναστευτι-κής πολιτικής με άξονα την νομιμοποίηση και τηνένταξη των μεταναστών στην ελληνική κοινωνία.Η αναγκαιότητα αυτή προκύπτει από την εικοσα-ετή ύπαρξη του μεταναστευτικού φαινομένου στηνΕλλάδα και από τις εξελίξεις που συντελούνται στοσυγκεκριμένο φαινόμενο, αναφορικά με την εκπαί-δευση, την απασχόληση, το εισόδημα, την κοινω-νική ασφάλιση, την υγεία, την κατοικία, την νομι-μοποίηση και την ένταξη των μεταναστών τα οποίαβρίσκονται στον πυρήνα των δημόσιων πολιτικών.Όμως αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι το μέγεθος και ηπολυπλοκότητα του μεταναστευτικού φαινομένουαπαιτεί την άσκηση δημόσιων πολιτικών με ένατρόπο συνολικό και όχι μερικό και αποσπασματικό,ο οποίος αποδυναμώνει, σε σημαντικό βαθμό, τηναποτελεσματικότητα στην αντιμετώπιση των κοινω-νικών, οικονομικών και πολιτικών παραμέτρων τηςμετανάστευσης. Πράγματι, προς την κατεύθυνσηαυτή συνηγορεί, εκτός των άλλων, και η σημασία τουρόλου των μεταναστών στον πληθυσμό, στο εργατικόδυναμικό και γενικότερα στην ελληνική οικονομία. ; The present paper examines immigrationin Greece over the past two decades.Economic immigrants in Greece, despitethe absence of reliable offi cial data, exceedone million, while immigration has leadto the development of policies relatingto the planning and implementation ofa coherent immigration policy centeredon the legalization and the integrationof immigrants in the Greek society. Thisnecessity stems from the twenty year oldexistence of immigration in Greece as wellas from a series of developments affectingcore public policies such as education,employment, income, social insurance,health care, residence, legalization andintegration of immigrants.Nonetheless, it should be pointed out,that the size and the complexity of thephenomenon requires the developmentof a coherent policy that will in turnenhance effectiveness in tackling thesocial, economic, and political aspectsof immigration. In addition, the role ofimmigrants in society, the labor marketand the economy constitutes a furtherpoint towards that direction.
The current thesis investigates the emergence, growth and trajectory followed by the Greek environmental movement. It tries to account for the apparent weakness of this movement and suggests that this should be traced back to the weakness of the Greek civil society, itself an outcome of the specific socio-economic development of Greece which allowed for vertical modes of political participation and societal organisation to prevail well into the end of the twentieth century. Trying to account for the failures of the Greek environmental movement following models established for western European countries, which enjoy a much stronger civil society, is starting with the wrong foot. The thesis follows the developments both at the socio-political and the administrative level over the last 25 years and reaches the conclusion that the Greek environmental movement, because of the specific social conditions prevailing in Greece, is an 'illusory' movement: it has the shape of a western-like environmental movement yet they are void of any substance. It is thus implied that the history of the Greek green movement over the past years might be typical of countries sharing a similar socioeconomic development to Greece's –that is other 'semi-peripheral' countries- yet the current thesis does not attempt any comparison. It rather establishes that any future comparative research involving Greece among other European countries should take into account the sui generis characteristics of the Greek case. Latest evidence [2001] points towards a 'Westernisation' of the Greek green movement, itself an outcome of developments both at the EU and the national level. Nevertheless it is still too early, and subsequently it would be highly speculative, to assume that the Greek green movement is about to embark on a trajectory similar to its western counterparts. A theoretical posture at the interface of political sociology and urban sociology is used to analyse the collective actions of urban refugees in Central Africa, focusing on the work of framing and adjusting mobilisations to the overall humanitarian environment in which they seek to integrate. In a context marked by a political decline at State level of the issue of assistance to refugees and the emergence of the international human rights regime as a central normative production framework in the host countries of Central Africa, it is then necessary to identify the conditions for the emergence of 'collective cosmopolitics' of refugees and their ability to call into question the relationship between human rights and citizens' rights in urban areas where the boundaries between international and internal order have never been so porous and undefined. ; International audience From a theoretical vantage point at the interface between political and urban sociology, this study analyzes collective action by urban refugees in Central Africa, focusing on efforts to adjust and adapt collective action to the global humanitarian environment in which it seeks to be embedded. This article provides an overview of the 100 pieces of work in the EU's historical and political sociology that have emerged in France over the past two years (particularly around the sociology of knowledge and the sociology of the trajectories and positions of the agents and groups that populate the European political space), and then sets out some ideas on their possible contributions to the international debate, in particular as regards the analysis of the central political and institutional space of the EU. ; International audience This article raises a panorama of the hundred of papers relating to historical and political sociology of the EU published in France these last two years (particularly around sociology of knowledge and sociology of trajectories and positions of the social agents and groups who compose the european political space). Geographical metaphores (fields, arena, sector, space, etc.) are preferred in political sociology to reflect the internal dynamics of the microcosm activists. The article calls, starting with the Lyon extreme left in the 68s, to go beyond this metaphorical register to consider how these dynamics find expression in the urban space. The struggles between rival organisations for ownership of space and the contribution of militant settlements to the transformation of the identity of certain neighbourhoods are particularly studied. ; Geographical metaphors (field, arena, sector, space, etc.) are mobilised in political sociology to describe dynamics internal to activist microcosms. The article relies on the case of the extreme left in Lyon during the post-May 68 years, to go beyond the metaphor to analyse how those dynamics are expressed in the urban space. ISO standards belong to the field of soft law and are binding as voluntary standards. The article proposes a political sociology for their construction and implementation. It is therefore necessary to identify the regulatory plasticity of ISO standards: these texts, which are incorporated in a continuum of legislation, allow for multiple catches and broad interpretations. Their drafting format continues to work on this normative lability. Following the crowd path of biopolitics and the potential for pragmatic sociology that is attentive to information formats, the article concludes on the dual political ownership of ISO standards: both an attempt to cover all social practices and a rather loose power of constraint, precisely because of the extensive wrapping targeted. ; International audience ; ISO standards belong to the field of soft law and are binding as voluntary standards.
