Πρόσφατα, μεγάλος αριθμός προβάτων φυλής Assaf-E έχουν εισαχθεί στην Ελλάδα από διάφορες ισπανικές εκτροφές. Από αυτά, 57 πρόβατα επιλεγμένα τυχαία από πέντε διαφορετικές Ελληνικές εκτροφές, εξετάσθηκαν ορολογικά για Lenti-ιούς των μικρών μηρυκαστικών κατά την άφιξή τους. Συνολικά, 25 ζώα βρέθηκαν οροθετικά στους παραπάνω ιούς. Λαμβάνοντας υπόψη τα ευρήματα, προτείνουμε την καθιέρωση πιο αυστηρής νομοθεσίας για τις αγοραπωλησίες προβάτων. ; During the last years, a large number of Assaf-E sheep have been brought into Greece from Spain. In total, 57 randomly selected Assaf-E sheep purchased from Spain to five 5 different farms in Greece were examined serologically on arrival for Small Ruminant Lentiviruses. Of these, 25 animals were found to be seropositive against Small Ruminant Lentiviruses.Taking into account the above findings, we suggest a more strict legislation at the sheep sales.
Αποτελεί πλέον κοινή παραδοχή ότι οι θεσμικές αλλαγές και αναδιαρθρώσεις που συντελούνται στην τριτοβάθμια εκπαίδευση έχουν σημαντική επίδραση στους στόχους και τη λειτουργία των πανεπιστημίων καθώς και στην ακαδημαϊκή εργασιακή διαδικασία. Ένας σημαντικός αριθμός ερευνών έχει μελετήσει με σχετική επάρκεια τις επιδράσεις των εξωγενώς επιβληθέντων αλλαγών στις διοικητικές πρακτικές, στη διαστρωμάτωση του ακαδημαϊκού προσωπικού και στην εντατικοποίηση του ελέγχου και της εργασίας των πανεπιστημιακών. Όμως, δεν έχουν ακόμη διερευνηθεί οι επιπτώσεις της μείωσης της κρατικής χρηματοδότησης και της αύξησης των εξωτερικών ελέγχων στην οργανωσιακή μορφή των πανεπιστημίων. Οι κύριοι στόχοι του παρόντος άρθρου είναι, αφενός μεν, η κριτική διερεύνηση των μεταβολών που επέφερε στην ακαδημαϊκή εργασιακή διαδικασία η εξάπλωση των ιδεολογικών αρχών και των διοικητικών πρακτικών του νέου διευθυντισμού στην ανώτατη εκπαίδευση, αφετέρου δε, η ανάλυση των νέων οργανωσιακών μορφών, που αντιστοιχούν σε τρεις σχετικά ευδιάκριτες βασικές κατηγορίες πανεπιστημιακών ιδρυμάτων, τα οποία έχουν διαφορετικούς συντονιστικούς μηχανισμούς, καθώς και διαφορετικούς εκπαιδευτικούς και ερευνητικούς προσανατολισμούς.
<p>Ένα από τα πιο σημαντικά δημογραφικά προβλήματα, που εμφανίζεται τα τελευταία χρόνια στη χώρα μας, αποτελεί η απότομη μείωση της αναπαραγωγικής ικανότητας του πληθυσμού. Ο αριθμός των παιδιών, που αντιστοιχεί κατά μέσον όρο στην κάθε γυναίκα γόνιμης ηλικίας<br />σήμερα στην Ελλάδα, είναι μικρότερος από το ελάχιστο όριο, το οποίο απαιτείται για την αντικατάσταση του πληθυσμού. Σύμφωνα με την παρούσα εμπειρική ανάλυση, το φαινόμενο της μείωσης των δεικτών γονιμότητας αποκτά ιδιαίτερη σημασία κατά τη διάρκεια της περιόδου 1980-1988 και οφείλεται στη μεταβολή της αναπαραγωγικής συμπεριφοράς των πιο νεαρών μητέρων. Το ίδιο πρότυπο εξελίξεων παρατηρείται σε όλες τις περιοχές της χώρας. Επιπρόσθετα και αναφορικά με την αναπαραγωγική συμπεριφορά των μητέρων, δεν παρατηρούνται στατιστικά<br />σημαντικές διαφορές μεταξύ αστικών και αγροτικών περιοχών. Τέλος, επίσημαίνεται ότι η διαφορά των δεικτών γονιμότητας των Αθηνών, της Θεσσαλίας, της Θράκης, των Νησιών του Αιγαίου και της Κρήτης από το μέσο όρο της χώρας είναι στατιστικά σημαντική.</p>
Αντικείμενο της παρούσας διπλωματικής εργασίας είναι η διερεύνηση του νομοθετικού πλαισίου που διέπει τις Ενεργειακές Κοινότητες (E. Κοιν. ). Σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο, τα ενεργειακά συστήματα υφίστανται μια θεμελιώδη αλλαγή λόγω της κλιματικής αλλαγής και της εξάντλησης των ορυκτών καυσίμων. Ο αριθμός των τοπικών ενεργειακών πρωτοβουλιών αυξάνεται συνεχώς και ο αριθμός των επιχειρηματικών μοντέλων που επικεντρώνονται στους τελικούς χρήστες διευρύνεται. Ο νόμος 4513/2018 για τις Ενεργειακές Κοινότητες αποτελεί το ελληνικό ολοκληρωμένο θεσμικό πλαίσιο που αποσκοπεί κυρίως στην προώθηση μιας κοινωνικής και σταθερής ενεργειακής οικονομίας. Οι Ενεργειακές Κοινότητες (E. Κοιν. ) είναι αστικοί συνεταιρισμοί με αποκλειστικό σκοπό την προώθηση της κοινωνικής και αλληλέγγυας οικονομίας, καθώς και της καινοτομίας στον τομέα της ενέργειας. Η διατριβή παρέχει έναν ολοκληρωμένο ορισμό, ανάλυση και στη συνέχεια οικονομικά κίνητρα και υποστηρικτικά μέτρα που πρέπει να προβλεφθούν για τα αντικείμενα δράσης που μπορεί να έχει η ενεργειακή κοινότητα. Είναι μια μέθοδος για την καταπολέμηση της ενεργειακής φτώχειας, την εξοικονόμηση ενέργειας, τη χρήση ανανεώσιμων πηγών και την αύξηση της τοπικής αποδοχής. Τα κύρια πλεονεκτήματά της περιλαμβάνουν τη δυνατότητα συνεργειών μεταξύ πολιτών, επιχειρήσεων και τοπικών αρχών, οι οποίες είναι πρόθυμες να δραστηριοποιηθούν στον τομέα της ενέργειας. Πρόκειται για ένα δημοκρατικό μοντέλο συμμετοχής στη λήψη αποφάσεων, καθώς κάθε μέλος έχει μία ψήφο, ανεξάρτητα από το συνεταιριστικό κεφάλαιο που διαθέτει, και προσφέρει επίσης στις περιφέρειες του νησιού με συγκεκριμένα κριτήρια. Έτσι, μπορούν να δημιουργηθούν ευνοϊκές συνθήκες για την τοπική και περιφερειακή ανάπτυξη και καινοτομία, καθώς και για την αποκέντρωση της παραγωγής ενέργειας. ; The subject of this diploma thesis is the investigation of the Legislative Framework governing the Energy Communities (E.Com.). Globally, energy systems are undergoing a fundamental shift because of climate change and fossil fuel depletion. There are continually increasing numbers of local energy initiatives and the number of business models focused on end users is expanding. The Energy Communities Law 4513/2018 is the Greek integrated institutional framework which is intended primarily to promote a social and solid energy economy. Energy Communities (E.Com.) are urban cooperatives with the sole purpose of promoting the social and solidarity economy as well as innovation in the energy sector. The thesis provides a comprehensive definition, analysis and then financial incentive and supporting measures to be envisaged for the objects of action that the energy community can have. It is a method for combating energy poverty, saving energy, using renewable sources and increasing local acceptability. Its primary advantages include the possibility for synergies between citizens, enterprises and local authorities, which are willing to be active in the energy sector. It is a democratic model of involvement in decision-making, since each member has one vote irrespective of the cooperative capital he possesses and it also offers the regions on the island with particular criteria. Thus, favorable conditions can be created for local and regional development and innovation as well as for decentralization of energy production.
The term 'characteristicity' started to appear in international literature in the recent past. There were several attempts to define the concept and define the characteristics of 'sweet people'. It is true that the proportion of gifted people compared to the total population is at single-digit levels, but they are also part of it at the first level of education. Despite the fact that recent legislation (2008) classifies people with developed competences as persons with special educational needs, the question arises as to the readiness of Greek pre-primary and primary school teachers to manage and train a student with higher than average opportunities. The study showed that a very small number of public education institutions provide their undergraduate curriculum with basic knowledge oriented in the field of charitableness, mainly as a selection course and a maximum of two subjects throughout its entire curriculum. ; Ο όρος «χαρισματικότητα» άρχισε να εμφανίζεται στη διεθνή βιβλιογραφία στο πρόσφατο παρελθόν. Αρκετές ήταν οι απόπειρες που έγιναν να ορισθεί η έννοια και να προσδιοριστούν τα χαρακτηριστικά των «χαρισματικών ανθρώπων». Είναι γεγονός ότι το ποσοστό των χαρισματικών ατόμων σε σύγκριση με το σύνολο του πληθυσμού κυμαίνεται σε μονοψήφια επίπεδα, ωστόσο μέρος του αποτελούν και μαθητές στο πρώτο επίπεδο εκπαίδευσης. Παρά το γεγονός ότι η πρόσφατη νομοθεσία (2008) κατατάσσει τα άτομα με ανεπτυγμένες ικανότητες στα άτομα με ειδικές εκπαιδευτικές ανάγκες, τίθεται το ερώτημα της ετοιμότητας των Ελλήνων εκπαιδευτικών της προσχολικής και πρωτοβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης να διαχειριστούν και να εκπαιδεύσουν έναν μαθητή με υψηλότερες του μέσου όρου δυνατότητες.Σκοπός της εργασίας μας είναι η διερεύνηση της παρεχόμενης, από τα δημόσια ανώτατα εκπαιδευτικά ιδρύματα της χώρας μας, εκπαίδευσης στους δυνάμει εκπαιδευτικούς προσχολικής και πρωτοβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης σχετικά με τη χαρισματικότητα στο επίπεδο των βασικών τους σπουδών. Σήμερα, οι απειλές στον κυβερνοχώρο είναι παντού και νέες επιθέσεις συμβαίνουν καθημερινά. Είτε μιλάμε για παραβιάσεις δεδομένων, κλοπές μεμονωμένων αναγνωριστικών, διακοπές συστημάτων από επιθέσεις χάκερ ή ευπάθειες που εντοπίζονται σε κρίσιμες υποδομές, ο αυξανόμενος αριθμός είναι συγκλονιστικός. Ως εκ τούτου, η συνεχής εκπαίδευση και κατάρτιση σε νέες τεχνολογίες / λογισμικό είναι ζωτικής σημασίας τόσο για μηχανικούς ασφαλείας και προσωπικό μηχανοργάνωσης όσο και για τους οργανισμούς γενικότερα. Η τεχνολογία Cyber Range (CR) τα τελευταία χρόνια ήρθε ως εργαλείο με στόχο τη μείωση του χάσματος δεξιοτήτων μεταξύ των οργανισμών και των υποδομών τους. Για όλο και περισσότερα πανεπιστήμια, επιχειρήσεις, μη κερδοσκοπικούς οργανισμούς και κυβερνήσεις ανά τον κόσμο, η απάντηση είναι η δημιουργία, ένταξη ή επέκταση ενός Cyber Range. Η ιδέα δεν είναι καινούργια, αλλά η έκρηξη ενδιαφέροντος για τα Cyber Ranges είναι σαφής. Στην παρούσα διατριβή, θα παρουσιάσουμε μερικές από τις βασικές περιπτώσεις χρήσης των CR και θα επικεντρωθούμε στην εκπαιδευτική εφαρμογή τους και θα παραθέσουμε την εμπειρία μας στην ανάπτυξη και τον έλεγχο του CyTrONE, ενός ολοκληρωμένου συστήματος ανοικτού κώδικα για την εκπαίδευση στην ασφάλεια του κυβερνοχώρου. Whether counting data breaches, individual ID thefts, system outages from hacker attacks or vulnerabilities detected to critical infrastructure, the growing numbers are staggering. As such, continuous education and training upon new technologies/software are vital either for cyber-security and IT personnel and for organizations in general. Cyber Range (CR) technology in the last few years came as a key tool for reducing the skills gap between organizations and their infrastructure .For more and more universities, enterprises, nonprofit groups and governments around the globe, the answer is to build, join or expand a cyber range. The concept is not new, but the explosion in interest in Cyber Ranges is clear. In the present dissertation, we will present some of the key use-cases of CRs and we will focus on the educational application and we will state our experience deploying and testing CyTrONE, a complete open-source integrated Cybersecurity Training Framework. Σκοπός της εργασίας είναι η διερεύνηση της δυνατότητας μείωσης του κόστους παραγωγής του αγελαδινού γάλατος σε δείγμα 120 εκτροφών μέσου και μεγάλου μεγέθους της Κεντρικής Μακεδονίας με τον καταρτισμό ενός επενδυτικού προγράμματος. Αυτό κρίνεται απαραίτητο είτε για τη βελτίωση του εισοδήματος των κτηνοτρόφων είτε για τη διατήρηση του στα σημερινά επίπεδα, καθώς η νέα Κοινή Αγροτική Πολιτική της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης προβλέπει μείωση της τιμής παράγωγου. Οι παράγοντες που εξετάστηκαν ήταν: α) η αύξηση του μεγέθους των εκτροφών (αριθμός αγελάδων), β) η αύξηση της ετήσιας γαλακτοπαραγωγής ανά αγελάδα και γ) η αύξηση του ποσοστού ιδιοπαραγωγής ζωοτροφών. Από τα αποτελέσματα προέκυψε ότι η επίδραση και των τριών παραγόντων στη μείωση του κόστους παραγωγής ήταν πολύ σημαντική (Ρ<0,01). Ενώ, όμως, για τη μείωση του κόστους παραγωγής κατά 1% απαιτείται αύξηση του αριθμού των εκτρεφόμενων αγελάδων κατά 28,3% (από μέσο όρο 86,9 σε 111,5 αγελάδες) ή αύξηση του ποσοστού ιδιοπαραγωγής ζωοτροφών κατά 34% (από μέσο όρο 32,1% σε 43%), η απαιτουμένη αύξηση της γαλακτοπαραγωγής ανά αγελάδα είναι μόνο 2,2% (από μέσο όρο 6.442,5 χλγ. σε 6.586,2 χλγ.). Επιπλέον, η απαιτουμένη επένδυση σταθερού κεφαλαίου ήταν 78.184, 16.132 και 3.475 ευρώ αντίστοιχα. ; The aim of this study was to investigate the possibility of decreasing cow milk production cost with an investment plan, using a sample of 120 medium and large size dairy farms in Central Macedonia. Cost reduction is considered necessary either for improving the dairy farmers' income or for maintaining it in current levels as falling milk prices are expected as a result of the new Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union. Three cost reducing factors were examined: a) increasing size of the farm (number of cows), b) increasing annual milk yield per cow and c) increasing the proportion of on-farm produced feedstuff. All three factors had significant effect on reducing cow milk production cost (P<0.01). However, while cost reduction by 1% would require increasing the number of cows by 28.3% (from an average of 86.9 to 111.5 cows per herd) or the proportion of on-farm produced feedstuff by 34% (from an average of 32.1% to 43%), the required increase in annual milk yield per cow would be only 2.2% (from an average of 6,442.5 kg to 6,586.2 kg). Furthermore, the fixed capital investment, required by each plan, would be 78,184, 16,132 and 3,475 euros, respectively.
Μέχρι σήμερα έχουν καταγραφεί 30 είδη Vibrio (δονάκια), από τα οποία 13 είναι παθογόνα για τον άνθρωπο. Όλα τα παθογόνα δονάκια έχουν αναφερθεί ότι σχετίζονται μκ τροφιμογενείς λοιμώξεις, αλλά το V. parahaemolyticus είναι το σημαντικότερο παθογόνο δονάκιο. Το V. parahaemolyticus είναι ένα αλλόφιλο βακτήριο που βρίσκεται σε υδάτιναοικοσυστήματα σε όλη την υφήλιο. Μέχρι το 1996, το παθογόνο σχετίζονταν με σποραδικά περιστατικά τροφιμογενούς γαστρεντερίτιδας μετά από την κατανάλωση νωπών αλιευμάτων ή αλιευμάτων που είχαν υποστεί ατελή θερμική επεξεργασία.Από το 1996, ο αριθμός των καταγεγραμμένων τροφιμογενών λοιμώξεων από το V. parahaemolyticus έχει αυξηθεί σημαντικά με αποτέλεσμα να αποτελεί το κυριότερο αίτιο τροφιμογενών λοιμώξεων από κατανάλωση αλιευμάτων σε ορισμένες ασιατικές χώρες και στις ΗΠΑ. Η αύξηση αυτή αποδίδεται στην εμφάνιση του ορότυπου 03:Κ6 του βακτηρίου. Τα παθογόνα στελέχη του V. parahaemolyticus παράγουν μια θερμοανθεκτική τοξίνη (Kanagawa ή Tüll) ή μια αιμολυσίνη παρόμοια με την τοξίνη Kanagawa (TRI 1) που σχετίζονται με τα γονίδια tdh και trh, αντίστοιχα.Το V. parahaemolyticus δεν περιλαμβάνεται στα μικροβιολογικά κριτήρια ασφαλείας για τα αλιεύματα που ισχύουν στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση, αφού μέχρι πρόσφατα θεωρούνταν χαμηλή η συχνότητα εμφάνισης λοιμώξεων από το παθογόνο στην Ευρώπη. Όμως, οι κλιματικές αλλαγές του πλανήτη μας ευνοούν την ανάπτυξη του παθογόνου στο θαλάσσιο νερό, Πρόσφατες μελέτες στην Ισπανία και τη Γαλλία αναφέρουν ότι οι λοιμώξεις αυτές παρουσιάζουν σημαντική αύξηση, Στη παρούσα ανασκόπηση αναφέρονται οι μεγαλύτερες επιδημίες που έχουν προκληθεί παγκοσμίως από Κ parahaemolytìcus μετά από την κατανάλωση αλιευμάτων.Η αυξανόμενη καταγραφή της παρουσίας του παθογόνου σε αλιεύματα στην Ευρώπη παρουσιάζει ιδιαίτερη σημασία για τη Δημόσια Υγεία και υπογραμμίζει την ανάγκη ένταξης του V. parahaemolytìcus στα προγράμματα επιτήρησης και έλεγχου. ; Among the 30 species of the genus Vibrio, only 13 of them are pathogenic to humans. All pathogenic vibrios have been reported to cause foodborne diseases, although Κ parahaemolyticus is considered the most important pathogenic Vibrio. V parahaemolyticus is a halophilic bacterium that occurs naturally in aquatic environments worldwide. The pathogen caused sporadic diarrhoea mainly associated with the consumption of raw or undercooked seafood up to recent years. Since 1996, the incidence of V. parahaemolyticus infections has increased dramatically. V. parahaemolyticus is the leading cause of seafood associated bacterial gastroenteritis in the United States and of the half foodborne outbreaks in some Asian countries. This increase in incidence has been related to the emergence of the 03:K6 serovar. The pathogenic V. parahaemolyticus strains can produce a thermostable direct hemolysin or a thermostable direct hemolysin-related hemolysin, which arc encoded by the tdh and trh genes, respectively. Vibrio parahaemolyticus has not been included in the microbiological criteria of E.U. Food legislation, probably because the risk by this pathogen was considered rather low in liurope. However, climate changes favour the growth of the pathogen in seawater. Recent studies in Spain and France have shown that V. parahaemolyticus infections from seafood consumption have been increased. The emergence of the pathogen in liurope is of public health concern and emphasizes the importance of microbiological surveillance and control programs for V, parahaemolyticus.
LEPII working note; NT4/2008 the EU's gas security issues, in particular following Russia's disentanglement with Ukraine, have emerged as one of the major issues of its energy policy. Faced with Europe's traditional suppliers, Algeria and Russia, the Caspian countries born from the collapse of the Soviet Union are currently potential sources of diversification due to the large gas reserves. However, their realisation remains closely conditioned by the realisation of a number of export routes. The latter are the challenge of fierce competition with Russia, which aims to promote its own export routes. From this point of view, agreements between Russia and China with Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan could redesign the gas map of the area and make it more difficult to supply Europe from Caspian. ; Note de travail du LEPII ; NT4/2008 Les questions de sécurité gazière de l'UE, notamment suite aux démêlés de la Russie avec l'Ukraine, émergent comme une des questions majeures de sa politique énergétique. Face aux fournisseurs traditionnels de l'Europe que sont l'Algérie et la Russie, les pays de la Caspienne nés de l'effondrement de l'Union soviétique, sont aujourd'hui des sources potentielles de diversification en raison de l'importance de leurs réserves gazières. Leur concrétisation reste cependant étroitement conditionnée par la réalisation d'un certain nombre de voies d'exportation. Ces dernières sont l'enjeu d'une concurrence exacerbée avec la Russie qui entend promouvoir ses propres logiques en matière de routes d'exportation. De ce point de vue, les accords passés entre d'un coté la Russie et de l'autre la Chine avec le Kazakhstan et le Turkménistan pourraient redessiner la carte gazière de la zone et rendre plus difficile l'approvisionnement de l'Europe à partir de la Caspienne.
The aim of this paper is to present an empirical analytical framework to address the actions of the decision-making body in the shaping of the foreign policy agenda, including a case study on its participation in the design of the Argentine foreign policy agenda between December 1999 and May 2003. In order to do this, a number of methodological approaches have been brought together in a complementary way, including qualitative and quantitative data from different sources (files, observation, interviews). The study illustrates that the issues which form part of Argentina's public agenda on foreign policy mainly depend on the ability of political actors to achieve cooperative outcomes and to ensure that these are enforced in time. ; El objetivo del artículo es presentar un esquema analítico de base empírica a partir del cual sea posible abordar el accionar del cuerpo decisional legislativo en la conformación de la agenda de política exterior, tomando como caso de estudio la participación de este en el diseño de la agenda de política exterior argentina entre diciembre de 1999 y mayo de 2003. Para ello, se articularon enfoques metodológicos a partir de lo que se conoce como complementación, esto es, la complementación de datos de distinta naturaleza (cualitativos-cuantitativos) y de distintas fuentes (archivos, observación, entrevistas). El trabajo permite concluir que los temas que forman parte de la agenda pública de política exterior argentina dependen fundamentalmente de la habilidad de los actores políticos para lograr resultados cooperativos y hacerlos cumplir en el tiempo. We propose a Kronecker product model for correlation or covariance matrices in the large dimensional case. The number of parameters of the model increases logarithmically with the dimension of the matrix. We propose a minimum distance (MD) estimator based on a log-linear property of the model, as well as a one-step estimator, which is a one-step approximation to the quasi-maximum likelihood estimator (QMLE). We establish rates of convergence and central limit theorems (CLT) for our estimators in the large dimensional case. A specification test and tools for Kronecker product model selection and inference are provided. In a Monte Carlo study where a Kronecker product model is correctly specified, our estimators exhibit superior performance. In an empirical application to portfolio choice for S&P500 daily returns, we demonstrate that certain Kronecker product models are good approximations to the general covariance matrix.

Due to the large number of form-finding variables, the choice of member sizing is one of the main difficulties at the conceptual phase. In this paper, authors propose a design tool to generate efficient structural configurations for braced bending-active tied arches using multi objective optimization strategies. Initially, a non-linear FE analysis is performed for each plausible configuration and at each generation of the optimization algorithm. In a second step, a genetic algorithm classifies the solutions and establishes new structural configurations according to best performance. Solutions are evaluated in terms of stresses in the active member and cables, and maximum deflections, as required by design codes for pedestrian bridges. Summary: In parallel with the expansion of the communist movement, a number of dissident currents emerged, which led to swimming in the community, both nationally and internationally. One of the most notable breaks was the separation of trotskism, where various aspects and groups were covered, heterogeneous in ideological and political terms. Because of its historical importance, in Chile the greatest dissent in the communist movement was hidal. This course, after several attempts to demonstrate its loyalty to Komintern, was welcomed by international trotskism, which, while reluctant about its possible inconsistency in doctrine, saw the possibility of forming a strong and potentially hegemonic party in that country. Relations of left-wing communist people with the International Secretariat, they highlight Chileans' ambiguous stance towards the formation of the International IV and their perseverance in taking political decisions that are independent of both international organisations. ; Resumen: A la par de la expansión del movimiento comunista, en su seno aparecieron diversas corrientes disidentes, que llegaron a provocar cismas en su seno, tanto a nivel nacional como internacional. Following the outbreak of COVID-19, a number of non-pharmaceutical interventions have been implemented to contain the spread of the pandemic. Despite the recent reduction in the number of infections and deaths in Europe, it is still unclear to which extent these governmental actions have contained the spread of the disease and reduced mortality. In this article, we estimate the effects of reduced human mobility on excess mortality using digital mobility data at the regional level in England and Wales. Specifically, we employ the Google COVID-19 Community Mobility Reports, which offer an approximation to the changes in mobility due to different social distancing measures. Considering that changes in mobility would require some time before having an effect on mortality, we analyse the relationship between excess mortality and lagged indicators of human mobility. We find a negative association between excess mortality and time spent at home, as well as a positive association with changes in outdoor mobility, after controlling for the time trend of the pandemic and regional differences. We estimate that almost 130,000 excess deaths have been averted as a result of the increased time spent at home. In addition to addressing a key scientific question, our results have important policy implications for future pandemics and a potential second wave of COVID-19.
