Economic expansion of People's Republic of China into developing countries.
The dissertation is devoted to the development of a new direction of the theory of economic expansion – China's foreign economic expansion into developing countries in the conditions of increasing geo-economic influence of China in the world economy. The paper summarizes the theoretical and methodological aspects of the study of the processes of forming the strategy of China's global economic expansion through the definition of the main channels of China's expansion, covering the following five areas: foreign trade, direct foreign investment, the Belt and Path initiative, multilateral financial institutions, the internationalization of the Yuan. The theory of the impact of the company's political connections on the FDI decision and the interdependence of productivity and political ties with management decisions has been formulated for the enterprises operating in underdeveloped financial structures and inadequate institutional environment. On the basis of the theory, a number of hypotheses were made which were checked with the help of the developed own discrete survival model with the use of complementary doublelogarithmic regression. The empirical research of the role of political connections and productivity for the decision making on the implementation of FPI by the companies of China was carried out and it was proved that those enterprises operate in underdeveloped financial markets, or companies with a greater need for external financing, benefit more from the existence of political ties. Thus, the channel through which political affiliation affects the company's FDI, is access to financing. With the help of integral distribution function and developed author's logistic regression model, the determinants influencing the choice of the recipient country for foreign investments of companies of China with the use of micro-and macro-level characteristics has been developed. The results of empirical research show that the marginal value of productivity and political ties grows under more favorable conditions for investment. Chinese companies have strong motives to invest in countries well equipped with capital, skilled labor and natural resources. The positive effect of intensified political contacts between China and the recipient country of investment has also been identified. The comparison of the economic expansion strategies of China in Latin America and Africa makes it possible to distinguish many common features: in the sphere of foreign trade relations, both regions export mainly raw materials and import finished goods. At the same time, Chinese economic expansion strategies in Africa and Latin America are also characterized by several differences related to the specific economic environment of the countries in the regions. In particular, China's economic expansion in Africa is growing at a rapid pace and with minimal obstacles, often causing damage to the national economy of the recipient countries. In Latin America, expansion grows at slower pace, being less tied to China, having a more diversified geographic structure in foreign economic relations, and better protecting its economic interests. The empirical determinants of direct foreign investment from China to Africa have been determined due to the author's model using the Tobit regression analysis and the two-step method of Heckman, which allowed to confirm that classical economic factors (large market size, growth potential, relatively cheap local currency, better economic conditions) are important for companies in China. Simultaneously, the increase in corruption in the country has a positive impact on the influx of investment from China. The determinants of foreign direct investment from China to Ukraine have been empirically analyzed with the use of the developed logistic regression model, which has led to the conclusion that Chinese investors receive additional incentives to invest if there is a prior positive investment experience, market potential increases, and openness and economic freedom increase, The negative factor is the readiness of investors from China to support corruption schemes in the Ukrainian economy.
