Late Ottoman Bilad al-Sham and Mandate Lebanon were characterized by an exceptionally dense concentration of diverse educational institutions. Research on education in this region during the late 19th and early 20th centuries has hitherto focused on individual institutions or movements. This volume challenges the established narrative and emphasizes the entanglements of individuals, concepts, and practices. Stemming from an international workshop held at the Orient-Institut Beirut in April 2012, the studies on local and foreign schools collected in this volume illuminate the manifold debates that entwined students, teachers, and the public over how to create a modern Arab society and the role education could play within that endeavor.

حلب في الشعر القديم (المجلد الأول من موسوعة حلب الشهباء في عيون الشعراء ) وثيقةٌ تاريخيّة وأدبيّة تستعرض أكثر من 009 قصيدة كُتبتْ عن مدينة حلب أو ذكرَتْها، بين القرن السابع للميلاد ومطلع القرن العشرين، معبرةً عن الأوجُه الحضارية المتعددة للمدينة العريقة، بتاريخها المديد وتراثها الغنّي وطبيعتها الكوسموبوليتية. يتضمن الكتاب 21 فصلاً، يهدف فيها المؤلّفان حسن قجّـة ومحمد قجّـة، إلى استقصاء القيمة الفعليّة والرمزيّة لمدينة حلب في عيون الشعراء ومدى انعكاس ذلك في حضورها بقصائدهم، ودلالات ذلك الحضور، كما يهدفان إلى التأكيد على المساهمة التي قام بها الشعر عبر عصوره، في التعرّف على تاريخ المدن العربية والإسلامية، وعلى قيمة تلك المدن من النواحي الموضوعية (كعمرانها وصفات سكانها ودورها الوطني) ومن النواحي المعنوية (كسمعتها وقيمتها الحضارية وفخر أبنائها بها وشوقهم إليها)

حلب في الشعر المعاصر والحديث (المجلد الثاني من موسوعة حلب الشهباء في عيون الشعراء ) وثيقةٌ تاريخيّة وأدبيّة يستعرض فيها حسن قجّـة 035 قصيدة كُتبتْ عن مدينة حلب أو ذكرَتْها بين مطلع القرن العشرين ومطلع القرن الحادي والعشرين، معبّرةً عن الأوجُه الحضارية المتعددة للمدينة العريقة، بتاريخها المديد وتراثها الغنّي وطبيعتها الكوسموبوليتية. يُستهلّ الكتاب بوصفٍ موجز لمدينة حلب في القرن العشرين من الجوانب الاجتماعية والفكرية والأدبية، ويتضمن 01 فصول، يستقصي خلالها القيمة الفعليّة والرمزيّة لمدينة حلب في عيون مئات الشعراء، ومدى انعكاس ذلك في حضورها بقصائدهم، كما يهدف إلى التأكيد على المساهمة التي قام بها الشعر المعاصر، في التعرّف على المدينة، من النواحي الموضوعية (كعمرانها وتراثها وصفات سكانها ودورها الوطني) ومن النواحي المعنوية (كسمعتها وقيمتها الحضارية وفخر أبنائها بها وشوقهم إليها)
