Part 4: Building Information Modeling (BIM) ; International audience ; Large-scale 3D city building models have been widely used in urban planning, intelligent transportation, military simulation and other fields. The traditional ways of modeling generally have common problems such as low efficiency, waste of manpower and time consumption. How to find a rapid approach to automatically complete large-scale 3D modeling is a very hot research topic. In this paper we propose a novel approach of procedural modeling of buildings with CityEngine, which is combined with ArcGIS technology for the geographic information. This approach produces extensive architectural 3D models with high visual quality and geometric details at low cost. It includes following two contents concretely. At first, directly writing computer generated architecture (CGA) shape grammar to complete procedural modeling of building and other objects. Secondly, using facade modeling based on two-dimensional images to generate architectural model as well as creating high geometry details. It is validated that this novel approach of procedural modeling is a significant step forward that reduces a lot of modeling times by CGA shape grammars.

13 páginas; 8 figuras ; One of Heritage Within (HWITHIN) European Research Project main goals has been obtaining a complete 3D reconstruction model of the original Carmo Convent, which currently stands as the Archeological Museum of Carmo to be later implemented into an augmented reality application. First of all, we have to address the first and most troublesome issue during the whole project, which has been the global pandemic that severely affected the expected schedule. That being said, we would like to stress all the effort and dedication the whole team has done, as well as the support from the Carmo Archeological Museum staff and the Association of Portuguese Archeologists members during the experimental campaigns held during last year. Since the photogrammetric model2 of the convent could not be performed as planned in March 2020, the whole process needed to start from a different point. Luckily, the Advanced Masters in Structural Analysis of Monuments and Historical Constructions (SAHC) from University do Minho already had a previous photogrammetry made in 2018, which became the main source of information to start the reconstruction process. 2014 is the hundredth anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War (WWI) - or Great War - in Europe and a number of initiatives have been planned to commemorate the tragic event. Until 1918, the Italian Trentino - Alto Adige region was under the Austro - Hungarian Empire and represented one of the most crucial and bloody war front between the Austrian and Italian territories. The region borders were constellated of military fortresses, theatre of battles between the two opposite troops. Unfortunately, most of these military buildings are now ruined and their architectures can be hardly appreciated. The paper presents the initial results of the VAST project (VAlorizzazione Storia e Territorio - Valorization of History and Landscape), that aims to digitally reconstruct the forts located on the plateaus of Luserna, Lavarone and Folgaria. An integrated methodology has been adopted to collect and employ all possible source of information in order to derive precise and photo-realistic 3D digital representations of WWI forts.
