4th We were bisy strengthening our works. There has not been much fighting on the right of the line to day. We are now in the vicinity of Chancelyville , I have been very fortunate since the battle been going on We have had 8 wounded in our regt. 5th It has been very quiet along the lines No. though the pickets fire rather sharp, which calls me to the trenches with our gun ins hand ready for an attack. It rained very hard last night. We left the rifle pits at 2 this morning and crossed the river. 6th The boys have been busy clea- ning the sacred soil of Va. off their pants and shoes and we expect to look- ing good as ever in a day or two.
