Although he has been at the hub of the emergence of a new mode of governance in Nigeria over the past two decades, scholarly analysis of the career of Chief Lamidi Ariyibi Adedibu remains surprisingly scanty. In correcting this oversight in the literature, this paper uses the personal & political trajectories of Chief Adedibu as a point of departure for a broader contemporary sociology of Nigerian politics. In emplacing Adedibu within a nuanced context of ' local' & 'national' politics, it addresses key analytic dilemmas with obvious continental resonances: the emergence & continued success of 'Big Men' in Nigerian (African) politics; the social, cultural & (para-) legal conditions that facilitate their tenacity & longevity; & what their survival suggests about the futures of political neopatrimonialism in African societies. The foreign Libyan political decision had been influence by many political, ideological and international directions. The petroleum had allowed to Libyan politics to exercise an important role by using important amount of money coming from the petroleum revenue. The latter had brought financial and economic assistance, which bring Libyan assistance policy essential in many African countries.After the end of the cold war and the world domination by the American politics, Libya had been accuse in the Lockerbie affaires and had been sanction by the United Nations. The political sanctions and the economic embargo conduct Libya to change its foreign policy and abandon the struggle against the presence of Americans and Israelis in Africa, as well as to adopt a foreign policy in the trends of Occidental interest ; L'objectif de la thèse est d'étudier la politique libyenne étrangère en Afrique pendant la période (1969-2002). Les décisions de la politique étrangère libyenne ont été influencées par plusieurs orientations politiques, idéologiques et internationales. Le pétrole a permis la politique libyenne d'exercer un rôle important en utilisant s'importantes sommes d'argents provenant de ses revenus pétrolier. International audience ; "Public Space" and Contradictions in African Studies. — Political anthropology in African studies has studied how the state emerged in realms or, more recently, in west African city-states. It has insisted on the problem of building political institutions out of lineage-based organizations. These studies have formulated the premises for analyzing the public arena in relation to fields of power in African states. Research on contemporary African politics tends to reconsider the concept of "public space" by preferring a more empirical approach to the normative Habermasian concept. But these studies have been unable to come up with a theory of power. ; L'anthropologie politique africaniste s'est orientée vers l'étude de l'émergence de l'État au sein des royaumes ou, plus récemment, au sein des grandes cités ouest-africaines. Elle a largement insisté sur le problème de la construction des institutions politiques à partir des organisations lignagères. Ces travaux n'ont pas systématisé une réflexion sur le concept d'espace public, même s'ils ont formulé les prémisses d'une analyse de l'espace public à l'aune des champs de pouvoir au sein des États africains. Les recherches sur le politique contemporain en Afrique tendent à reconsidérer le concept d'espace public en dépassant la normativité du concept habermassien pour privilégier une approche plus empirique, mais ne parviennent pas à l'articuler à une théorie du pouvoir.

Le premier est celui de l'évolution atypique des agricultures de l'Afrique au Sud du Sahara. Les deux autres sont également en relation étroite avec « l'exception africaine ». D'une part, la question démographique et la transition de sociétés à dominante agraire à des sociétés à dominante urbaine ; d'autre part, la question foncière et l'évolution des régimes dits coutumiers face aux enjeux contemporains du développement rural. Un point de vue rétrospectif sur la littérature montre qu'en fin de compte, les analyses n'ont pas profondément changé durant les dernières décennies. Elles continuent d'opposer deux approches, l'approche quantitative en termes de performance et l'approche qualitative et compréhensive en termes de processus, alors qu'il conviendrait plutôt de les combiner. Mais il est plus facile de le dire que de le faire. Une façon de répondre à cette difficulté est d'inverser la tendance des dispositifs de développement à « trouver des problèmes aux solutions », de rendre compte pour eux-mêmes des systèmes agraires existants et d'évaluer les performances des sociétés agraires africaines en termes de processus.

International audience ; The soaring world cereal prices in 2007/2008 and the subsequent riots in several sub-Saharan African cities reignited the debate on food security policy. Could rising world cereal prices actually be a blessing in terms of boosting food production by guaranteeing more attractive prices for farmers? This implies determining whether global price fluctuations are actually transmitted to national market prices. This was the objective of a study focusing on five countries in the region. Between 1994 and 2009, the degree of transmission of world rice prices to domestic markets varied considerably from one country to another: low or even inexistent in Mali, Cameroon and Madagascar; high in Senegal and Niger. The 2007/2008 price increases made no structural changes to the types of transmission identified over the long term. The segmentation of food markets between imported rice, local rice and other foodstuffs explains this imperfect transmission of global prices to sub-Saharan markets.
