Les résultats des recherches en bien-être animal sont utilisés lors de l'élaboration de réglementations. Ils doivent également servir au conseil en élevage.

National audience ; Using the statistics collected since the beginning of the 1950s by the National Accounting Bureau, this article analyses the overall trends in the consumption of animal products in France. The total amount of meat consumed has decreased regularly throughout this period. A tendency towards saturation became increasingly apparent during the 1980s. Although the results of consumption surveys demonstrate a broad spectrum of eating behavior, there is a some homogeneity with respect to certain life style characteristics including income and age group. These different observations suggest that in addition to pursuing goals of increased productivity, attention must also be given to policies of increased differentiation. ; A partir des séries statistiques issues de la Comptabilité Nationale, ce texte analyse les grandes tendances de la consommation des produits animaux en France depuis le début des années cinquante. Le taux de croissance de la consommation des viandes diminue régulièrement tout au long de la période, et une tendance à la saturation se manifeste de plus en plus clairement au cours des années quatre-vingt. Les données des enquêtes de consommation mettent en évidence la forte hétérogénéité des comportements mais aussi leur régularité en fonction de certaines caractéristiques des ménages comme le revenu et l'âge par exemple. Ces différents constats suggèrent que parallèlement à la poursuite des efforts de productivité, une politique de différenciation des produits est à l'ordre du jour.

This thesis focuses on human – animal relationships in a densely inhabited city, through the study of discourses about urban birds in the Greater Paris. Since public policies promoting urban biodiversity are growing, this research questions city dwellers' bird acceptation or reject criteria, as well as management policies implemented in regards birds. Thus, this work wants to depict conditions of cohabitation with a part of ordinary urban biodiversity, based on quantitative (980 questionnaires) and qualitative methods (19 interviews) and inhabitants letters analysis (170 texts). Birds appeared to be widely loved animals in cities, but this positive appreciation depends on perceived specific diversity and the territorial contexts of the encounters between city dwellers and birds. By comparing the appreciations of Carrion crow (Corvus corone) and Ring-necked parakeet (Psittacula krameri), it is shown that cultural representations of birds can be reversed due to species behavior and population dynamics, along with urban territories' status. City dwellers complain about birds when they cause damage to everyday life territories, revealing urban imaginaries where animals are more or less at their proper place. City administrators' discourses create a dichotomy between the birds that fall within the type of biodiversity that needs to be promoted and the species with whom cohabitation is problematic. Management of potentially problematical fauna such as wolves and wild boars is complex, and involves controlling essentially unpredictable animal behavior as efficiently as possible. The "right" management methods are subject to conflict and controversy, given that the socio-spatial categories within which such animals must be considered are subject to disagreement. This thesis draws on concepts from both local planning and social geography to explore the types of relationship required in managing wolves and wild boars in contexts of such overlapping, incompatible concepts of space as political divisions, human living areas and animal habitats. Geographical and sociological techniques and theoretical approaches to planning are called upon. One of the thesis's specific features lies in its epistemological approach, with balanced perspectives on animal, layman and scientific actors and agents. The description of controversies concerning the characteristics and behavior of humans and animals brings to light the generic arguments involved. The latter show the similarities inherent in the opposition between partisans and detractors of this type of wildlife. If such arguments contribute to understanding the conflicts involved, they also give an oversimplified image of local reactions to the management of wolves and wild boars. Socio-spatial innovations driven by the territorial operators "wolf" and "wild boar" can only be updated via micro-geographic procedures. Area-specific operators explaining the contentious or non-contentious nature of coexistence are identified. Les discours des gestionnaires de la ville établissent une dichotomie entre des oiseaux relevant d'une biodiversité à valoriser et des espèces avec lesquelles la cohabitation pose problème, qui sont alors peu envisagées comme partie prenante de cette biodiversité.

This thesis focuses on human – animal relationships in a densely inhabited city, through the study of discourses about urban birds in the Greater Paris. Since public policies promoting urban biodiversity are growing, this research questions city dwellers' bird acceptation or reject criteria, as well as management policies implemented in regards birds. Thus, this work wants to depict conditions of cohabitation with a part of ordinary urban biodiversity, based on quantitative (980 questionnaires) and qualitative methods (19 interviews) and inhabitants letters analysis (170 texts). Birds appeared to be widely loved animals in cities, but this positive appreciation depends on perceived specific diversity and the territorial contexts of the encounters between city dwellers and birds. By comparing the appreciations of Carrion crow (Corvus corone) and Ring-necked parakeet (Psittacula krameri), it is shown that cultural representations of birds can be reversed due to species behavior and population dynamics, along with urban territories' status. City dwellers complain about birds when they cause damage to everyday life territories, revealing urban imaginaries where animals are more or less at their proper place. City administrators' discourses create a dichotomy between the birds that fall within the type of biodiversity that needs to be promoted and the species with whom cohabitation is problematic.
