Pourtant, au-delà des apparences le contexte comme la signification de chacun de ces évènements diffère sensiblement même si, à l'évidence, ces deux annexions successives de la Savoie à la France se révèlent intimement liées en dépit de leurs soixante-dix ans de distance. Tant la référence ambiguë à l'idéologie révolutionnaire contemporaine de la Convention joue, au cours du second épisode, le rôle d'argument de poids en faveur ou à l'encontre du thème de la nécessaire fusion de la petite patrie alpine dans le creuset de la Grande Nation. Peu importe en l'occurrence et très paradoxalement, le retournement soudain de sensibilité politique des militants en faveur de l'option française lors de ces deux événements majeurs de l'histoire alpine occidentale. Puisqu'en toute logique les plus ardents promoteurs de l'Annexion, en 1860, conservateurs cléricaux bon teint, ne devraient pas se prévaloir contre nature d'une référence à ce point connotée à l'Invasion révolutionnaire de la Savoie pour en réclamer ultérieurement les bienfaits. Mais l'histoire des Etats de Savoie et a fortiori celle, en leur sein, des provinces savoyardes proprement dites, s'avère si complexe que les confusions en tout genre se perpétuent avec une désolante constance depuis des lustres, malgré le patient travail de vulgarisation entrepris de longue date par plusieurs générations d'historiens.C'est donc dans un cadre politique résultant d'enjeux doctrinaux de prime abord assez étrangers à l'histoire savoyarde qu'il convient ainsi de replacer l'analyse des deux annexions consécutives de la Savoie à la France, puis celle de leur légitimation, voire de leur amalgame définitif dans la plupart des mémoires locales au gré des cérémonies officielles, dans la construction de récits ...

The French declaration of war on Austria on 20 April 1792 committed the nation to more than twenty years of war. Faced with a coalition of European powers, the revolutionaries called upon the citizenry to form a truly national army. The result was an unprecedented tightening of the bond between war and nation. That the conflict would have consequences for the very foundations of French society was inevitable given its sheer scale, duration, and geographical extent (the whole of continental Europe and beyond in the campaigns in Saint-Domingue and Egypt); its far-reaching impact on civilian society and commerce; and its forcible involvement of hundreds of thousands of young Frenchmen. The theme of this book is the first-hand experience of French military and civilians during these conflicts, seen through their eyes and using their testimony, as well as an assessment of the place of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic conflicts in the evolution of the art of warfare, and the elements of modernity which made them the first example of 'total war'

The responses of British people to the French Revolution has recently received considerable attention from historians. British commentators often expressed a sense of the novelty and scale of European wars which followed, yet their views on this conflict have not yet attracted such thorough examination. This book offers a wide-ranging exploration of the attitudes of various groups of British people to the conflict during the 1790's: the Government, their supporters and their opponents inside and outside Parliament, women, churchmen, and the broad mass of British public opinion. It presents the debate in England and Scotland provoked by the war both as the sequel to the French Revolution and as a distinct debate in itself. Emma Vincent Macleod argues that contemporaries saw this conflict as one of the first since the wars of religion to be significantly shaped by ideological hostility rather than solely by a struggle over strategic interests.

Der vom Statistischen Bundesamt für die Bundesrepublik Deutschland berechnete Index der Grundstoffpreise misst die Entwicklung der Preise von Materialien, Hilfs- und Betriebsstoffen inländischer und ausländischer Herkunft, die vom Produzierenden Gewerbe des Inlands gekauft und verarbeitet bzw. verbraucht werden.
Als Grundstoffe werden somit sog. Vorprodukte angesehen, und zwar sowohl Rohstoffe, die noch unbearbeitet oder aber aufbereitet bzw. nur geringfügig bearbeitet sind, als auch Zwischenprodukte wie Halbwaren und Fertigwaren - Vorerzeugnisse.

Die Preisreihen werden in Form von Messzahlen auf der Grundlage des Preisstandes im Basisjahr (= 100) dargestellt. Der Index wird nach der sog. Laspeyres - Formel berechnet. Das bedeutet, dass die aus dem jeweils aktuellen Basisjahr stammenden Wägungszahlen bis zur Umstellung auf das nächste Basisjahr unveränderlich bleiben.

The history of the Irish Brigade remains fascinating more than three centuries after its creation in the late seventeenth century and is regularly revived in the English speaking world as well as in Western Europe thanks to historians, journalists, and even politicians. The military feats of these Irish troops fighting for the French kings in Italy in 1702, on the plains of Belgium or for the Stuarts in the Scottish Highlands in 1745 still captivate people's imaginations to this day. Yet, the reality of the lives and deaths of these Irishmen is often eclipsed by nineteenth century historical myths produced in both Ireland and Great Britain for political purposes that were either different or even in complete opposition to the Brigade's raison d'etre. This is not the only paradox attached to the Irish Brigade. Though successful on the battlefields of Europe, they fought other people's wars. Though remaining present in historical memories, the Brigade ultimately failed to help secure a second Stuart restoration. Though serving the Jacobite cause, they are often overshadowed by the Scottish clans of the '45. This book endeavours to explain how and why the myth surrounding the Brigade came to be by studying this military diaspora of the long eighteenth century. This book rests on the author's ongoing forays into hitherto unused primary sources and documents and takes the reader from the heyday of the so-called "Wild Geese" at the very end of the seventeenth century to the decline of the Brigade in the second half of the eighteenth century, using sources found in Irish, British, and French archives. The negative stereotype attached to Irish soldiers is explored in the press as well as in correspondence from French civilian and military authorities. Questions about the daily lives of officers and soldiers in the Brigade can be answered using cross-referenced information from different national and local records. The battle of Fontenoy on 11 May 1745 represents the pinnacle of the Brigade's military identity, while the battle also proved its undoing due to the heavy casualties suffered by the Irish on that fateful day. The rest of the century saw the Irish regiments serving the French king becoming a military tradition more than a viable asset in the ongoing war between France and Great-Britain. --
