This report presents an analysis of the patterns of trade intra-firms and the determinants of the Brazilian exports. The main objective is to verify whether export firms with foreign capital interact with their mother companies in the country of origin of their capital. The results suggest strong interaction. No obstante,las empresas transnacionales pagan cada vez menos impuestos, perjudicando en particular a los países en desarrollo: se ha estimado que estos pierden ingresos de por lo menos 35.000 millones de dólares anuales debido a prácticas de evasión fiscal. In adjusting the balance of payments of British India the common practice was to apply four to five per cent of foreign trade profits. A careful comparison of trade data as reported in Britain and in India shows that the profitability was much higher than has hitherto been assumed. The implications for calculations of inflow and outflow of funds into and from India when her external trade was dominated by non-residents are far-reaching. (DÜI-Sen)

The Chinese leadership has announced and is pursuing an "open foreign economic policy" and as an important component of this policy special economic zones (SEZ) were formed in the late 1970s and early 1980s in Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Shantou and Xiamen. In recent years "special" powers to develop external economic ties and to attract foreign capital were also granted to 14 maritime cities and the island of Hainan. In the light of the further expansion in 1984-85 of the Chinese leadership's "open foreign economic policy" and the scale on which the reform of the economic mechanism in the PRC is being carried out, the authors sum up and evaluate some of the results of the SEZ's performance and the associated problems. Dargestellt werden Probleme der Gründung und Tätigkeit von Gemeinschaftsunternehmen auf dem Gebiet der UdSSR. Zur Zeit gibt es viele Unklarheiten in Bezug auf Gesetzgebung, Höhe des Stammkapitals, Gewinntransfer usw. Als größtes Problem gilt die Rentabilität des Gemeinschaftsunternehmens auf der Devisen-Basis. Dies sei meistens darauf zurückzuführen, daß die Produkte des Gemeinschaftsunternehmens aufgrund ihrer unzureichenden Qualität nicht in die Drittländer exportiert werden können, da sie der Konkurrenz der westlichen Erzeugnisse nicht standhalten. Um dieses Problem lösen zu können, muß die Qualität der Produkte ständig verbessert werden. Dringend notwendig ist auch das Gesetz über den Schutz von ausländischen Investitionen, um das Interesse der westlichen Partner an der Gründung von Gemeinschaftunternehmen zu fördern. (BIOst-Ldg)
