This paper aims to reconstruct the early action of the Argentine Council for Peace, local headquarters of the World Peace Council, the most important front organization supported by communism during the Cold War period. Through the itineraries of writers María Rosa Oliver and Alfredo Varela and the essayist Ernesto Giudici, key figures in the Movement for Peace in Argentina, the article analyzes the relationship between intellectuals and communist efforts after World War II, in the context of Juan Domingo Peron's government. ; Este artículo se propone reconstruir los primeros años de actuación del Consejo Argentino por la Paz, sede local del Consejo Mundial por la Paz, la organización frentista más importante impulsada por el comunismo en el periodo de la Guerra Fría. A través de los itinerarios de los escritores María Rosa Oliver y Alfredo Varela, y del ensayista Ernesto Giudici, figuras clave del Movimiento por la Paz en la Argentina, el artículo analiza la relación entre los intelectuales y las iniciativas comunistas de la segunda posguerra en el contexto del Gobierno de Juan Domingo Perón.

Este ensayo constituye una interpretación introductoria acerca de la Guerra Fría en la región centroamericana. Para la realización del análisis, primero se estudia el sistema internacional de orden bipolar resultante de la segunda Guerra mundial, para luego abordar el acontecer latinoamericano en medio de la guerra Fría, con las intervenciones en Cuba y en Chile; la crisis de Centroamérica, enmarcada en un proceso de autoritarismo de larga duración; los rasgos definitorios de la crisis del poder político durante los años ochenta, con el militarismo creciente; el difícil camino hacia la paz, desde la propuesta formulada en Contadora, hasta la firma de los acuerdos por parte de los diferentes países. Al final, se concluye con una recapitulación de lo sucedido entre el derrocamiento de Árbenz en Guatemala y de Noriega en Panamá. ; This essay constitutes an introductory interpretation about the Cold War in the Central American region. For the realization of the analysis, the international bipolar order system resulting from the Second World War is first studied; soon to approach the Latin American event in the middle of the Cold War, with the interventions in Cuba and Chile; the crisis in Central America, framed in a process of authoritarianism of long duration; the defining features of the crisis of political power during the 1980s, with increasing militarism; the difficult path to peace, from the proposal made in Contadora, to the signing of the agreements by the different countries. In the end, it concludes with a recapitulation of what happened between the overthrow of Árbenz in Guatemala and Noriega in Panama.

El trabajo reflexiona sobre la crítica política al Poder Judicial desde los movimientos de lucha en la universidad -principalmente el estudiantil-. Se hace un breve recorrido en relación retrospectiva a los movimientos estudiantiles desde el año 1918 a esta parte, sobre el cuestionamiento a los poderes instituidos con que se enfrentaron, remarcando la actualidad e inédita politización respecto de la administración de justicia, y cómo ello brinda nuevos elementos para resignificar el concepto de autonomía universitaria. AbstractThis work aims at reflecting on the political criticism towards the Judicial Power from the struggle movements at university -mainly from the student movement-. A brief tour is done -in retrospect to the student movements since 1918 to the present - of the questions about the instituted powers they had to face up, highlighting the current unprecedented politicization in regard to the administration of justice, and how it provides new elements to resignify the concept of university autonomy.Keywords: university, reform, Córdoba, students, Judicial Power

The publication of Los hijos de Sánchez by the Fondo de Cultura Económica, in December of 1964, precipitated a rupture in the Mexican culture. For certain intellectuals related to the power, the book of Oscar Lewis offended the nation. Protected by the authoritarian government of Gustavo Diaz Ordaz, they caused the resignation of the director of the Fondo de Cultura Económica, the Argentinean Arnaldo Orfila Reynal, and defendant of «communist foreigner». In reaction, five hundred intellectuals of the entire continent supported to Orfila and they stimulated it to create another publishing house: Siglo XXI. In the land of «the culture», few events produced the intensity of own positions to the Cold War. The singular objective of this work is to think so that a combat of these characteristics exploded on the Fondo de Cultura Económica and a singular publisher. Its ampler aim is to contribute to the reflection on the conditions under which the edition becomes a decisive practice for politics. ; La publicación de Los hijos de Sánchez por el Fondo de Cultura Económica, en diciembre de 1964, precipitó un cisma en la cultura mexicana. Para ciertos intelectuales ligados al poder, el libro de Oscar Lewis ofendía a la nación. Amparados por el gobierno autoritario de Gustavo Díaz Ordaz, provocaron la dimisión del director del Fondo de Cultura Económica, el argentino Arnaldo Orfila Reynal, acusado de «extranjero comunista». En reacción, quinientos intelectuales de todo el continente apoyaron a Orfila y lo estimularon para crear otra editorial: Siglo XXI. Este trabajo analizará el conflicto en Costa Rica, a través de dos ejes de la política internacional; la primera será la postura de México frente al país centroamericano mediante los informes emitidos por la Embajada mexicana en aquel país. La segunda será evidenciar la intervención de Estados Unidos en dicho conflicto, mediante los informes emitidos por la Agencia Central de Investigación (CIA). Lo anterior coadyuvará a repensar la postura de la "Guerra Fría temprana", pues fue desde 1948 en que gran parte del continente sintió los embates de este conflicto bipolar, como fue el caso de Costa Rica, Colombia, con el llamado Bogotazo y Venezuela con el derrocamiento de Rómulo Gallegos. Con esta idea se reflexionará sobre esa historiografía, que considera el caso de Guatemala en 1954 como el primer ensayo de la Guerra Fría. ; This work will analyze the conflict in Costa Rica, through two axes of international politics; the first will be the position of Mexico against the Central American country through the reports issued by the Mexican Embassy in that country. The second will be evidence of the intervention of the United States insaid conflict, through the reports issued by the Central Agency of Investigation (CIA). This will help to rethink the position of the "Cold War early", it was since 1948 that much of the continent felt the onslaught of this bipolar conflict, as was the case of Costa Rica, Colombia, with the so-called Bogotazo and Venezuela with the overthrow of Rómulo Gallegos. With this idea we will reflect on that historiography that considers the case of Guatemala in 1954 as the first trial of the Cold War.

The central paradigm of the Cold War was a battle of ideas, not a military, economic or political battle. This article analyses the contribution of intellectuals and artists to the propaganda war during the 20th century. It is argued that culture proved to be a very effective weapon back then. Left-wing intellectuals who were contrary to the Soviet Union project forged a novel no-communist thinking that, being supported by the US intelligent services, succeeded in the creation of a new Worldwide cultural paradigm in the context of the Cultural Cold War. ; El paradigma central de la Guerra Fría fue una batalla de ideas, no una batalla militar, económica o política. El presente artículo analiza la participación de intelectuales y artistas en la guerra propagandística que tuvo lugar en el mundo durante buena parte del siglo XX, en un contexto en el que la cultura se concebía como un arma verdaderamente eficaz. Así, de los intelectuales desilusionados con la utopía soviética surgió una nueva izquierda no comunista que, en comunión con los servicios de inteligencia estadounidenses, dio lugar al nacimiento de un nuevo paradigma cultural mundial en el marco de la Guerra Fría Cultural.

En el presente estudio nos planteamos la forma en que se realizó el trasvase cultural de la novela Pantaleón y las visitadoras, de Mario Vargas Llosa, al contexto estadounidense de la Guerra Fría, época en la que la traducción de literatura latinoamericana se convirtió en un arma política para captar intelectuales del Sur del continente. Para ello, desde una doble perspectiva cuantitativa y cualitativa, extraemos y clasificamos los culturemas léxicos e identificamos las técnicas de traducción empleadas en su versión al inglés así como los errores cometidos por los reescritores. Esta operación se realiza a tenor de los factores contextuales que enmarcan e influyen en el original y la traducción, a saber, contexto histórico, canon traductológico y estructura de la novela. Summary: The aim of the article is to analyse the magazine Americas in 1940-1960 as a privileged space for studying national and transnational historical processes. The study is based on a comprehensive and novel analysis of the material published in the magazine, complemented by Mexican and foreign primary and secondary sources. The text reveals that America was a central element in an intellectual and political network created by the confluence of groups linked to the Mexican revolutionary state, the left and Spanish exile in Mexico. The analysis of the American groups, ideas and transformations makes it possible to identify relevant aspects, many of them unprecedented, of the social, political and ideological fabric of the Mexican cultural world of the time, including the evolution from antifascism to anti-communism and the relationship between the Mexican State and intellectuals. ; Resumen: El objetivo del artículo es analizar la revista América en 1940-1960 como un espacio privilegiado para el estudio de procesos históricos nacionales y transnacionales. El estudio está basado en un análisis exhaustivo y novedoso del material publicado en la revista, complementado con fuentes primarias y secundarias mexicanas y extranjeras. El texto revela que América constituyó un elemento central en una red intelectual y política nacida de la confluencia de grupos vinculados al Estado revolucionario mexicano, la izquierda y el exilio español en México. El análisis de los grupos, ideas y transformaciones de América permite identificar aspectos relevantes, muchos de ellos inéditos, de la trama social, política e ideológica del mundo cultural mexicano de la época, entre ellos, la evolución desde el antifascismo hacia el anticomunismo y la relación entre el Estado mexicano y los intelectuales.

Las "favelas" de Río de Janeiro y las "poblaciones" de Santiago de Chile recibieron habitualmente las visitas de actores externos. Muchas veces conocemos las historias de estos lugares gracias a los relatos de trabajadoras sociales, estudiantes, militantes políticos o benefactores. Con el inicio de la guerra fría la presencia de estos actores asumió un nuevo significado, siendo muy importante la disputa entre comunistas e Iglesia Católica, que se contendieron la hegemonía del espacio popular, a veces llegando a enfrentamientos violentos. Sin embargo, las actividades desarrolladas por estas instituciones permitieron fortalecer la organización de los habitantes y aportar mejoras a sus barrios, contribuyendo a una mayor integración urbana, social y política. ; The "favelas" of Rio de Janeiro and the "poblaciones" of Santiago de Chile were usually visited by external actors. It is through the accounts of social workers, students, political activists or volunteers that we know about the histories of these places. With the beginning of the cold war, the presence of these individuals took on a new meaning. In this backdrop, the conflict between the communists and the Catholic Church for the hegemony over the low-income neighborhoods, which sometimes led to violent confrontations, took a central stage. Yet, the activities developed by these institutions strengthened the organization of the inhabitants and physically improved these neighborhoods, fostering their urban, social and political integration.

The article analyses the American Revolution in Military Affairs, an idea which not only articulated the U.S. post-Cold War strategic planning and was the key promoter of its process of military Transformation, but it is also the main responsible for its initial successes and later failures in the protracted Afghan and Iraqi campaigns. ; El artículo estudia la Revolución Americana en los Asuntos Militares, eje del planeamiento estratégico estadounidense de la inmediata posguerra fría, promotora de su proceso de Transformación militar y responsable de los logros iniciales y de los fracasos posteriores en las largas campañas de Afganistán e Irak.

This article seeks to examine female communist militancy and its strategies to construct a political identity through the publication Spanish Antifascist Women, the bulletin of the women's organization Union of Spanish Women (Unión de Mujeres Españolas or UME), published in Paris between 1946 and 1950. We describe how exiled communist women used this publication as a means of constructing a collective identity which sought to reconcile the legacy of the antifascism of the 1930s and the adhesion to political orders emanating from the party leadership, with the construction of a female political identity, within the framework of a political culture in which gender questions had always been secondary to the overall aim of liberating the proletariat. ; Este artículo pretende analizar la militancia femenina comunista y sus estrategias de construcción de identidad política a través de la publicación Mujeres Antifascistas Españolas, boletín de la organización femenina Unión de Mujeres Españolas (UME), que se publicó en París entre 1946 y 1950. Se describe cómo, desde esta publicación, las mujeres comunistas del exilio intentaron llevar a cabo un proceso de construcción de identidad colectiva que trataba de compaginar la herencia del antifascismo de los años treinta y la adhesión a unas consignas políticas emanadas de la dirección del Partido con la construcción de una identidad política femenina, en el marco de una cultura política en la que las problemáticas de género habían sido siempre secundarias con respecto a la meta global de la emancipación del proletariado.
