This book highlights the different ways of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) practices that conserve natural resources sustainably. Traditional ecological knowledge (TEK), along with synonymous or closely related terms like Indigenous Knowledge and Native Science, originates in the literature on international development and adaptive management. Against the backdrop of unprecedented global degradation and reduction in ecosystem services with impacts on human well-being over the last 50 years, there is a growing interest in the role of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) practices and systems of local communities in ensuring the sustainable utilization and management of resources. In this context, this book comprehensively analyzes the important aspects of natural resources in Asia. This book covers a detailed study of the different aspects of natural resources. It is divided into three sections, which deal with varying dimensions of Indigenous Ecological Knowledge of resource management in Asia. The first part reflects upon the concept of Traditional Ecological Knowledge, the second part analyzes the systematic documentation of TEK practices, and the third part deals with policy for governance. This book critically describes and explains the Indigenous Knowledge about resource management. This book is the ideal text for undergraduate, postgraduate, and research scholars in India and abroad. This book is designed in such a manner that it covers all the aspects of natural resources. It also helps the administrator and policymakers use Indigenous Knowledge in resource management.

Since independence, Indian policymakers have attempted to address environmental problems by passing a number of rules and regulations as per the vision of the constitution and in response to the requirement of time. However, due to the prevalent poverty and the developmental compulsions of the nation, environment and its protection was not a priority of the government till the end of the 1960s. But, the 1972 Stockholm Conference on Human Environment brought a marked shift in India's approach to environmental issues. The conference proved to be a turning point in India's perception on environment and facilitated the creation of the National Committee on Environmental Planning and Co-ordination (NCEPC) in 1972. The NCEPC triggered a rise in environmental legislation, beginning with the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act of 1974, which provided for the creation of Pollution Control Boards for the control of water pollution at national and state levels and empowered them to enforce the law. The boards were later empowered to deal with air pollution by Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act of 1981 and acted as regulatory mechanisms to environmental protection. This article primarily deals with the role of the Central Pollution Control Board as a regulatory authority to environmental protection and regulations in India.
Major developments in the last three decades have set the scene for the rise of novel problems on global scale. The unprecedented level of interdependence and interconnectedness between countries, firms and institutions has paved the way for the emergence of, both, novel practices that increase the quality of life and intriguingly complicated issues of global governance. The relationship between global actors are so intertwined that striving for predictability is barely feasible. In spite of the enhanced capabilities gained through involvement in the economic and financial value creation process, there are perils ahead for better global governance. Major issues pose global actors in terms of credibility, building and ensuring sustainability, erosion of capacity to fulfill promises and increasing fragility of financial markets as well as issues regarding depleting energy resources, environment and security. G-20 emerged as a remedial governance structure in the wake of the 2008 financial turmoil making sure that the prominent dynamic emerging countries are seated around the table. The expansion of G-8 into G-20 including the new global powerhouses has many positive implications. However, ongoing debates regarding this structure oscillate between hope and contestation. This conceptual paper intends to draw a general framework regarding the representative capability of G20 members and discuss the hybrid quality of this so called steering committee given the era of turbulence that the world is heading towards. ; Publisher's Version

The foundation of any structure of corporate governance is disclosure. Various committees constituted in different countries, in the wake of major corporate failures, scandals and financial irregularities in different parts of world have resulted in codes of best practices and corporate governance guidelines. The present paper studies relationship between company attributes and extent of corporate governance disclosures. The study is based on secondary data from 100 selected BSE listed companies. An 'Index of corporate governance disclosure' consisting of 85 items was constructed. Linear Regression Equation has been used for each independent Variable separately and Multiple Regression Analysis for all variables done. Findings exhibit a positive relationship between selected company attributes and extent of corporate governance disclosure. The companies which disclose greater items of corporate governance nature are likely to be(a) Large in size as measured by Share-Holders Funds (b) More profitable as measured by PAT as % of Sales (c) Liberal in distributing profits by issue of bonus shares. (d) Their shares being included in active stocks (A type) listing on Bombay Stock Exchange. The proportion of independent directors in board does not have clear relationship with disclosure practices.
