"Plan Dalet" was the name given by the Zionist High Command to the general plan for military operations within the framework of which the Zionists launched successive offensives in April and May 1948 in various parts of Palestine. In this special feature Khalidi's article "Plan Dalet: master plan for the conquest of Palestine" (Middle East Forum, Nov. 1961) is reprinted with a new, short introduction by the author along with five appendices: Texts of selected sections of "Plan Gimmel" (May 1946) and "Plan Dalet" (March 1948); maps of Palestinian villages destroyed or abandoned in 1948 and the Jewish settlements subsequently established; the correspondence in the "Spectator" generated by the appearance of an article by E. Childers in 1961 which discussed the reasons for the Palestinian exodus. (DÜI-Hns)
