For the last twenty years, contemporary military history, turning away from a traditional History of Battles, has been about witness accounts of participants in the Great War. There is a place for this approach that, although sometimes controversial, focuses on the lives of private soldiers and on their material and cultural constraints. On the other hand, biographical studies of military heads, in spite of a very recent renewal of interest, are largely neglected. The same applies to the study of senior officers belonging to the "second circle", who are mainly unknown to the public at large. And yet through their family and military history much is to be learned of this contingent and of the officers who rose after the disastrous defeat of 1870 and became the world first army following their 1918 victory.General Arthur Boucher biography is a detailed study of his atypical long military career and of his family life, and draws out the erudite character of his output as a military writer. It also brings to the fore some key events and important Third Republic generals, with whom General Boucher interacted. A prominent biologist, remembered as a prominent contributor to the theoretical foundations of population genetics, JBS Haldane (1892-1964) was also a member of the Communist Party of Great Britain from 1942 to 1950. From 1937 on, he vigorously advocated the idea that Marxism was useful to scientific work.Our study focuses on Haldane's Marxist ideas and discusses the ways in which they were historically produced. We first consider the development of Haldane's intellectual positions and interpret his adoption of Marxism in the context of a dynamic search for unity between conceptions of science, philosophy and politics. Our study then focuses on the working of his Marxist thinking, which we characterize as a worldview, that is to say a mode of production and circulation of ideas. In particular, we examine the claim that Haldane made use of Marxism in his science using as evidence some of his work in population genetics and eugenics. This leads us to strengthen and generalize the case made by Hammond (2004) against Sarkar (1992) and Shapiro (1993) in favour of the impact of Haldane's Marxism on his science, and to a clarification concerning how this took place. Finally, we propose the interpretation of Haldane's Marxism as a special case of more general historical processes. Auguste-Frédéric-Louis Viesse de Marmont (1774-1852) is the most famous figure in a military family whose genealogy and fame date back to the 16th century. Son of an officer of small nobility, he became acquainted very early with the young Bonaparte and fought with him at Toulon in 1793. Since then, bonds of friendship have been forged between the two comrades in arms. No academic biography has been made of this character whose background is rich and varied and whose memoirs constitute an essential testimony of the history of the First Empire. Marmont had a dazzling career and quickly climbed the ranks of the army. Together with his friend, he campaigned in Egypt, the two campaigns of Italy until becoming Governor General of the Illyrian Provinces from 1809 to 1811 and in this capacity participated in the modernization of this territory. His career continued until 1830, when he was charged with enforcing the July ordinances, a mission to which he failed and which brought his career to an end. But his name remains mainly attached to the act of treason of April 5, 1814, which marked a turning point in the history of the First Empire. Since then, the figure of the traitor has travelled through the 19th century. In this study, the question of Bonaparte's political ascension will therefore be questioned as to whether it induces that of his comrades in arms. Thus, by evoking the question of networks, biographical study makes it possible to ask the question of the nature of the relations that may exist between men of power and men of arms. The main objective of this work is therefore the following: it is a question of knowing, in a crossed dynamic, how this friendship emerges, how it has evolved since 1792 and how this military morality links the two soldiers. Pierre Quesnay (1895-1935) is an important actor, although he's not known for being part of the international financial life of the interwar period : « doctor of the money », first healing currencies in dissaray after the First World War, especially in Austria, then, at the SDN general secretariat. Acting in the shadows for the Poincaré's stabilisation, as the general secretary of the Governor Moreau (between 1926 and 1928), brilliant Head of the Economic Analysis Department of the Banque of France, he is, starting from 1930, the first general manager of the BIS,originating from the Young plan, plan of which he was one of the main negociators. Edited from private familial archives which are totally unprecedented, including notebooks that Quesnay filled from 1912 to 1937, this work is an attempt of an intellectual biography of an international financial expert of the interwar period. By trying to understand what is his intellectual « tooling »(the evolution of his liberalism in view of the economical consequences of the First World War) as much as which are his networks (his proximity with Jean Monnet…), we come to the point, of the scales where he implements his intense activity, notably through his transnational dimension. Louis Jacquinot est né à Gondrecourt-le-Château, une commune du Sud de la Meuse en 1898 et mort en 1993 à Paris. Il reste une figure méconnue de l'histoire politique. Pourtant, il exerce des fonctions gouvernementales sous la IIIe République et devient ministre sous la IVe et la Ve République. Au total, Louis Jacquinot est ministre à près de vingt reprises, dont ministre de la Marine (1943-1945 et 1947), des Anciens Combattants (1949-1951), ou de l'Outre-mer (de 1951 à 1954 puis de 1961 à 1966). En parallèle, sa carrière locale est importante : député de la Meuse de 1932 à 1973, conseiller général ainsi que président du Conseil Général de la Meuse de 1945 à 1973. La carrière de ce modéré est donc placée sous le signe de la longévité. Ce travail de thèse retrace sa vie, son parcours ainsi que sa carrière locale et nationale. Mais cette biographie est également consacrée à l'étude et à l'analyse du travail de recommandation de cet élu. En effet, le fonds d'archives du député de la Meuse contient 17 000 courriers de recommandations qui viennent appuyer ce travail. In parallel, the local quarry is important: MP for Meuse from 1932 to 1973, conseiller général and président du Conseil général de la Meuse from 1945 to 1973. The career of this moderate is placed under the sign of longevity. This thesis traces his life, his career and his local and national career. But this biography is devoted to the study and analysis of the recommendation of the elected job. Indeed, the Meuse MP archives contain 17 000 letters of recommendations that support this work. A general analysis of the practice in the department for nearly a century is realized through other sources of archival Meuse elected, including its predecessors (Raymond Poincaré, Jules Develle, André Maginot) and his successors (Jean Bernard).

An individual existence which differentiates people also constitutes a collective living. There are many observable factors in a collectivity which can influence the building of this existence: sex, religion, family, brothers and sisters, physical appearance, schooling, incomes, politics or psychological state. An analysis can be done throughout three hundred biographies of the two last centuries personalities. Then, the opposite procedure will be developed to measure what collectiveness can add or substract to an individual in his own existence building. Variants that characterize a person are defined with precision, there are the basis of a theorical and general formulation. This study ends in the synthesis of four recent approaches: "fractal geometry", sensitiveness to the initial conditions, reduction structural building and finally theory of catastrophes ; L'individu développe une existence dans un contexte collectif. Bringing together the papers presented at the international symposium 'The genre the work' in September 2011, the three volumes entitled Receptions, Creations and Representations offer the reader a rich panorama and varies on gender problematic in the art worlds . Diversity of research topics, literature to cinema, through dance, photography and theater; diversity of approaches, the biography has the statistical survey, through the analysis of documents; diversity of disciplines, from sociology musicology, through philosophy and history. This non-exhaustive list of tools to emerge as apprehend gender in its complexity, to grasp the social construction process but also to constant redefinition of gender categories. Despite the wealth of content, we may regret the absence of a general introduction and/or presentation of the three volumes - apart from brief editorial reproduced at the beginning of each volume - in order to clarify the central problematic, d 'to show the consistency, to justify the allocation of items. In view of the proposed communications, answering a call inviting auteur.es was 'exploring genres reports through the production, reception and mediation of a work of art - a show, a book, a plant or a film, for example 'it begs the question of the relevance of the division between Receptions, Creations and Representations. Indeed, a majority of products responds to these three themes and could, therefore, be included in each volume.
