The 125th session of the Governing Body of the International Labor Organization was held in Geneva on May 28 and 29, 1954, with Mr. A. M. Malik (Pakistan) presiding. Preliminary consideration was given to the agenda for the 39th session of the ILO Conference (1956), which, it was decided, would be comprised of the Director-Generals report, financial and budgetary questions, and information on the application of Conventions and Recommendations, The Director-General was requested to submit to the November session of the Governing Body reports dealing with the national law and practices of member states in the fields of (1) weekly rest in commerce and offices, (2) living and working conditions of indigenous populations in independent countries, and (3) forced labor. He was also requested to provide a general note on the conditions of plantation workers and on discrimination in the field of employment and occupation.

Статья посвящена проблеме представительства субъектов Российской Федерации в верхней палате российского парламента. Цель данного исследования рассмотреть участие российских регионов в деятельности Совета Федерации Федерального Собрания Российской Федерации через призму изменения законодательства о порядке формирования данного государственного органа. В качестве теоретической основы исследования были применены такие методы как общелогический, сравнительный, системный, исторический. Результатом исследования стал сравнительный анализ федерального законодательства о порядке формирования Совета Федерации и влияние его изменений на характер представительства субъектов Российской Федерации в «палате регионов». В итоге автор делает вывод о недостаточном на данный момент региональном характере верхней палаты российского парламента и о невысокой степени демократичности процедуры ее формирования, а также о необходимости увеличения конституционных полномочий Совета Федерации для повышения статуса и роли данного государственного органа в российской политической системе. ; The paper deals with the problem of representation of the Russian regions in the upper house of the Parliament. The aim of the study is to consider the regions' participation in the Federation Council's activities through changing the legislation on the formation of this body of authority. The author used logical, comparative, systematic and historical methods. The result is a comparative analysis of the legislation on the formation of the Federal Council, and the influence of its changing on the nature of representation of the regions in "the House of Regions". The author makes a conclusion that the regions are not represented adequately, the formation of the Federal Council is not democratic, and the increasing of the constitutional powers is necessary for improving of the status of this body of authority in the Russian political system.

The confluence between body, violence and society reveals a link between the profane and the sacred in the rituals of death. Given these coordinates, this text gives a few brushstrokes to understand the forms of human violence in which the victim body is the scene of barbarism, macabre and excessive, expressed in a contemporary tanatobiopolitical project linked to torture, vexation And hatred in bodies. Atendiendo a estas coordenadas, este texto da algunas pinceladas para comprender las formas de violencia humana en las que el cuerpo-víctima es el escenario de la barbarie, lo macabro y lo desmedido, expresado en un proyecto tanatobiopolítico contemporáneo ligado a la tortura, la vejación y el odio ejercidos en los cuerpos. As a poetic exploration of the collaborative practice of Kelly + Jones (2014-2020), this article critiques processes employed by the artists to excavate writing and site with attention to aspects of sound. The sites of investigation include a disused quarry in Cambridge, UK . The use of the chalk quarry creates a unique ambience/ambiance – which can be considered theoretically in relation to phenomenological, dialogical, and post- feminist perspectives, in tandem with a partnered site of an old staircase with integral chalkboard in a former inner-city Victorian school. The site-specific nature of the investigation requires that environmental ambience is noted and processed through the body as a material quality instrumental in rendering form. The material ambience of site is also embroiled with the cultural ambiance of received convention and practices that seep into diverse modes of expression through and off the body that is inescapably conditioned by the translation of social relations. Also to consider is an inter-relational translation from environment to tissue where cultural memory embeds in the yet-to-emerge gestures of the anticipated. Throughout this text ambience is a reference to physical and sensed qualities and ambiance to the cultural uptake that conditions individual subjectivity within its political realm. The gouging and scarring of the landscape where chalk has been blasted, hacked and removed, and the striking of surfaces inherent in chalk on board in regimes of education and enculturation chime with the violent and strident nature of writing a subject into being, even more evident in acts of resistance. The sifting of dust particles into the lungs of workers and educators are a reaction inducing irritant causing bodies to spasm in coughs and soft tissue to mobilise and swell. The artists value this material and cultural aspect as a site of troublesome proliferation on the side of the feminine. The collaborative writing offers a glimpse into the artists' questioning of the material world of the human body and the spent bodies of marine-life which create chalk deposits, in order to explore the dialogic relationship of the body and its ambiant hauntological qualities . Though the project holds personal resonance and subjectivities for the artists tethered to site intimacy, in this instance they opt to share their research through the distance of third person. Through the culturally received dominance of the masculine empirical voice this could be viewed as a replication and appropriation of a hierarchical voice-as-trope rather than a subversion towards the non-binary. The artists have different intentions for use. By putting aside the intimacy of the first person the artists intend to draw attention to the there-yet-not-there qualities of the hauntological scene and to perhaps open a space where the reader can insert their own subjectivity as they wander through a newly encountered and perhaps dense terrain. A reader may find their own ways to enter the unoccupied space of first person and disrupt the flow of words and events, altering the course of the article within their individual encounter. Similarly, the practical research around writing resists using text because of its inherently hierarchical disposition in terms of gender, race and class codes and exclusions. By refusing to offer decipherable text in the practical investigations the artists set up an alternative provocation utilising grammatical signs and symbols. By tampering with the form and avoiding the defining sense of a word they aim to resist boundaries and enable 'the structural enigma which inaugurates the scene of writing'. (Castricano 2001) As part of their investigation into the site of writing, this essay creatively contemplates the role of the body as an instrument for making and storing sculptural sound documentation to excavate work based on re/calling, un/calling, production and erasure within phenomenological experience. Kelly + Jones embrace the unknown within research-creation as the ground for potentiality in thinking around chalk's materiality and the cultural significance of mark-making as a condition of writing a subject into being. The collaboration probes how this might be distilled into enmeshed visual and audial practice through creating a micro-ecology of sound-body interventions. Through their improvised gestures ambiance is situated as a dis/embodied oscillation that only exists in the moment of interplay between artists and site, which the artists consider live 'jamming sessions' within a responsive and improvised practice. The unforetold of improvisation and the discursive nature of ambiance necessitate the grapple of emergent subjectivity and its possible transgressions. The relationship between sound-body-landscape blurs the lines of formation of ambiance, as a site of re/action. Ambiance's unfaithful and generative translation into gesture resists ontological distinctions and casts shimmering generative interplays. The exploratory works in the quarry consider the artist as instrument and sensitised corporeal recording device, the pit as echo chamber, and the artists' interventions in the site as soundscapes – visceral, live scores that are embodied. The positioning of the artists' bodies as a point of resonance in building sculptural soundscapes constitutes a fragile and precarious interplay with the site. This evolving body of work is a series of multimedia-based artefacts and live works that explore the contextual process of writing through the body and the writing of sound-as-site into being. ; Hyperallergic

Our research project is a sociological investigation into the careers of physical education (PE) teachers in Ireland.Our enquiry focuses firstly on an enhanced analysis of the literature within the context of the newly established Republic of Ireland. Secondly, it draws on extensive qualitative interviews of female PE teachers which reveal women teachers lacking legitimization within their own profession. It does this by setting standards rooted in the notion of the perfect athlete, supported by input from the military and medical worlds. This in turn is subject to the interdependence of the Catholic Church and the state. H.S Becker's approach to the concept of career allows for a diachronic and synchronic interpretation of the data collected. Here, the choices made by the female PE teacher and the rationale behind them are clarified. This enquiry also aims to understand the development of womanhood in its varied forms when both the educational environment and the body are subject to religious tradition. We therefore developed a typology (Max Weber) of our respondents' careers and identified a 'stable' type of career, a 'breaking' type and a 'progressive' one. Our findings here suggest an ambivalence in the careers of PE teachers in Ireland – characterised first by a transgression of gender norms when practising sports. However, through their commitment, female PE teachers have achieved a tenacious spirit in the face of gender stereotypes and their influence on education. ; Notre recherche, inscrite dans un cadre socio-anthropologique, consiste à étudier les carrières des enseignantes d'Éducation Physique (EP) en Irlande. Notre démarche s'appuie sur l'analyse d'un corpus documentaire permettant de situer la mise en place de l'EP dans le contexte de la fondation de la République d'Irlande. De plus, elle utilise une méthodologie d'enquête qualitative qui consiste à recueillir la parole des femmes enseignantes sous forme d'entretiens compréhensifs. La première partie de la thèse montre comment l'EP, discipline en quête de reconnaissance, se construit à partir d'un modèle sportif, d'influences diverses et dans le cadre d'une interdépendance de l'Eglise catholique et de l'Etat. Dans la deuxième partie, l'interprétation des données recueillies réalisée à l'aide du concept de carrière (H.S. Becker) permet de rendre visibles les choix opérés par ces enseignantes et les processus les justifiant. Cette recherche vise également à comprendre comment se construisent des féminités plurielles dans un espace d'enseignement particulier où le corps est en jeu et dans un contexte issu de la tradition religieuse. Pour cela, nous avons construit une typologie (Max Weber) des carrières de nos enquêtées et repéré un type « stable », un type « en rupture » et un type « progressif ». Nous montrons ainsi l'ambivalence de ces carrières : à travers leurs pratiques sportives, elles transgressent les normes genrées. Mais, en s'engageant dans leur métier, elles pérennisent en partie des stéréotypes de genre par leur discours et leurs modalités d'enseignement en contexte mixte ou non.

Introduction: Military deployments relocate service members to austere locations with limited medical capabilities, raising uncertainties whether members with diabetes can participate safely. Military regulations require a medical clearance for service members with diabetes prior to deployment, but there is a dearth of data that can guide the provider in this decision. To alleviate the lack of evidence in this area, we analyzed the change in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and body mass index (BMI) before and after a deployment among active duty U.S. Air Force personnel who deployed with diabetes. Materials and Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted using HbA1c and BMI values obtained within 3 mo before and within 3 mo after repatriation from a deployment of at least 90 d between January 1, 2004 through December 31, 2014. The study population consisted of 103 and 195 subjects who had an available pre- and post-deployment HbA1c and BMI values, respectively. Paired t-tests were conducted to determine significant differences in HbA1C and BMI values. Results: The majority (73.8%) of members had a HbA1c7%. BMI declined for the overall population (28.3 kg/m2 vs. 27.7 kg/m2, p 7%, experienced a statistically significant improvement in HbA1c and BMI upon repatriation. A prospective study design in the future can better reconcile the effect of a military deployment on a more comprehensive array of diabetes parameters.
