The contemporary world of work reveals a scenario formed by different contexts (global, society and culture, origin, and work) that highlight individual and collective career trajectories. All these contexts bring the historicity of gender constructions and are constituted by labyrinth mobilities that pressure the boundaries of women's careers. Considering the gap of studies that articulate career, mobility, and gender, this theoretical article argues that mobility, mainly geographic and social, may have reduced availability for women due to boundaries that engender immobility, anchored by sociocultural, political, organizational, and biological relationships. These are manifested by restrictions on freedom in some countries; family arrangements; expectations related to maternity and care activities of children and the elderly, which are socially attributed to women; by the organizational glass ceiling and the low representation in power positions. These immobilities lead to involuntary sedentarism, which imposes symbolic and labyrinthic barriers in their professional career. Labyrinth mobilities are disoriented from the traditional and safe path of traditional careers and uncertain about the steps for new career models. Careers are historical, dynamic, and in constant transformation, similar to what occurs with gender. The imperative of mobile careers and the (im)possibilities from the point of view of social markers of difference are prone for critical debates and for theoretical and empirical in-depth action exploring their limitations. In the current globalized world, the individualism is emphasized, threatening human values to capitulate within market relationships. In this context, education emerges as a powerful tool to revalue the human being as a person and in the relationship with others. Therefore, this essay aims to explore LGBTI groups' human rights and analyze how these rights of sexual diversity work as a necessary analytical approach to promote tolerance, as well as respect, through education. To do this, it will be studied how the international scenario is channeled into the local level through the Ley 26150 de Educación Sexual Integral, 2006 (Argentinian law on Integral Sexual Education), and its compliance will be tested implementing surveys and semi-structured interviews. In this regard, specific analytical criteria have been used, such as the level of education of teachers, the existence of real situations of discrimination based on sexual motivations within school facilities, and the boundaries and resistances that come from other social environments. Therefore, we prove that, despite the new legal progressive advances, the daily enforcement of the sexual education law shows limits that derive from the cultural context, as well as from the lack of training of teachers.
Antero de Quental makes his own the Proudhonian principle of justice, which in its turn presupposes the evangelical ideal of brotherhood. He considers the socialism as a kind of Christianism of the modern world, that is, as an ideological movement, which resumes and remodels what is best the spiritual tradition had to offer: the defense of equality and justice at the level of "humanity". Antero's proposal overcomes the narrow limits of the strictly economic sphere and blurs the connotations of a mere proposal for a political alternative to assume moral and ethical boundaries instead inspirers of a more just and equitable social order.
Physiographic element associations used by several authors were reviewed, in order to identify the boundaries of the Pantanal and its sub regions. Preliminary research results are also presented. The objective of the study was to discuss characteristics and limits of these sub regions and also to call the public's attention to the need of establishing physiographic delimitations of this ecosystem, in a forum that legislators will recognize and adopt. Seven maps found in the literature were redrawn, to allow comparison on a similar scale. The Pantanal delimitation on a 1:250.000 scale is proposed in this paper. The proposal was based on interactions between physiographic elements (hydrology, geomorphology, pedology, vegetation, and altimetry), supported on Landsat 5-TM images and topographic charts. This characterization will be useful for scientists and legislators interested ill the regions who are aware of the need to be concile the process of development with preservation or conservation of the ecosystem. Preliminary results indicate that, depending on the sub region, a single physiographic clement is enough to define the boundaries. For some areas, however, information on two or more factors is needed. Results also indicative that from counties localizes in the adjacent high lands, only 15 have pan or their area within the Pantanal.

This text outlines three dimensions of the mediatization of politics, focusing on the relationship between entertainment and democracy. Grounded on bibliographical research, illustrated by some cases, the main aspects of this mediatization process may be seen as follows: (a) the approximation of democratic politics with the forms of entertainment; (b) the politicization of entertainment and pop culture, transformed into spaces for discussion of public; and (c) the boundaries of this intersection, both in terms of media and politics, which preserve their particular identities as relatively autonomous social fields. Considering the relationship between politics, media and publicness, this paper ponders the consequences of visibility in the political field. Identifying some of its existing regimes, it will posit that today visibility plays an ambivalent function to politics: it can simultaneously operate as a synoptic monitoring and control of politicians; and at the same time it may stand as an opportunity to build a charismatic leadership. In fact, political visibilities are now negotiated between the boundaries of private and public realms, and they can take the form of a risk, or an opportunity to build on a charismatic leadership.
The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that a socialist ethics should be discussed within the epistemological thinking in general and in the field of communication, in particular. Intends to do so, bringing to the debate authors who point the deep linkage between the theoretical, methodological, historical and political elements of any conceivable epistemology. That does not mean neglecting the relatively autonomous development of scientific knowledge, but to emphasize precisely this relative character. Finally, careful not to blur the boundaries between these fields, the study aims to (re)open a dialogue between them.
This article advocates the potential space for promoting public democratic environments. In recent decades, public university policies in Brazil have provided an expressive shift towards more inclusive campuses. On the other hand, the growing urban commercialization has significantly reduced diversity within the city's public areas. This study aims to highlight the relevant role that university campuses can play in providing civic areas for the city and to evaluate the spatial characteristics that facilitate democratic gatherings. In 2019, the Federal University of Santa Catarina's main campus was the stage of several events to protest against the government's reduction of the education budget. The study starts from the recognition of the university areas that house students from more diverse areas of study. Subsequently, university community assemblies have been registered within this area and their spatial attributes have been analyzed. More flexible and permeable spaces on the buildings' ground floor influenced these choices to gather and confront ideas. These findings point to solutions that go against current practices, aimed towards more protected entrances. Furthermore, they suggest directions so the university reduces its boundaries, inviting the city into its open areas through buildings that offer free services to its citizens. AbstractThe recent rise of authoritarian movements around the world requires an interdisciplinary reflection on the fundamental elements of democratic regimes. In fact, political typologies renew their complexity as a result of current economic, geopolitical and legal events. In this context, legal scholars have tried to explain the paradoxical relationship between constitutionalism and authoritarianism. Considering these concerns, in this paper we discuss the conceptual boundaries of totalitarianism, fascism and populism, in order to analyze how these concepts were incorporated into the debate on the crises of democracy and then connected with modern constitutionalism. The research was carried out with the qualitative and analytical-descriptive study of the concepts. As a conclusion, it was verified that, even though the current problems have different aspects from those of the past, there are structural characteristics of modern society that make it possible to understand the new authoritarian wave. The constitutional system challenge is to face anti-democratic pressures without losing its basic meaning. The paper seeks to contribute to the debate on the crises of constitutional democracies and to clarify key concepts to understand current problems. Keywords: Totalitarianism; Fascism; Populism; Democracy; Constitutionalism.
; Even though the Federal Constitution of 1988 guarantees indigenous peoples the right to social policies, health care remains a field of tension in their relationship with the State. The need to ensure a participation guideline for the Brazilian National Health System and the inclusion of indigenous people in mechanisms of social control are widely defended. Thus, this article seeks to discuss the meanings of participation and reflect on the challenges of its configuration as social control within the scope of indigenous health. The analysis was based on health conference reports, bibliography related to the subject, and interviews with key actors. The research sought to shed light on the diversity of contexts, actors, and agendas involved in the five indigenous health conferences. We concluded that there was a shift in the conferences and their participation, which moved towards a more bureaucratic performance within the strict boundaries established by the government. Even so, it is essential to value the power contained in the mechanisms of social control, which not coincidentally are the objects of disputes brought forward by the most conservative groups in society. In this sense, it is necessary to value, occupy, and transform these spaces.
Heliogabalus was a young Roman emperor from a Syriac origin and member of the Severan dynasty (193-235). Following a family tradition, Heliogabalus was the priest of the solar god Elagabal, from the city of Emesa, in Syria. Developing an analysis of the contemporary textual documentation of Heliogabalus, crossed with analyzes of the coins issued in the emperor's government, I will present elements about his priestly clothes of worship to Elagabalus, which were considered in the ancient textual documentation as cross-dressing, in other words, transitioning the normative gender boundaries of that time. I will analyze the representation of his religious dress and relate to this representation the idea brought by Cassius Dio about the attempt of Heliogabalus to make a surgery intervention in his body, seeking to build a vagina. Also related to his religious clothes, I will present the analysis on the possibility of what would be a priestly symbol found in the image of the emperor's head on some of his coins. In the last decades, there has been an exponential growth of initiatives focused on participatory and deliberative democracy around the world, with a predominance of local experiences. However, over time, it has become clear that small-scale experiences have limitations in bringing forth the new democratic ideals. As attempts to overcome such limits, supralocal processes have emerged both in regional and national levels. The scaling-up is often promoted by state institutions and is accompanied by a trend toward the institutionalization of participation processes. This research aims at analysing the potentials and limits of the scaling-up and institutionalization of participatory and deliberative democracy as a tool for democratizing democracy. To this end, this dissertation focuses on the implementation of two public policies at the regional level, one in Europe and the other in Latin America. The global north case is the Tuscan Participation Policy, in Italy. The global south case deals with the social participation in the Rio Grande do Sul state budget, in Brazil, which incorporate the initiatives of the Popular Consultation and the System of Popular and Citizen Participation. I carried out two years of qualitative research and fieldwork on the implementation of these policies, involving 47 semi-structured interviews. The results can be divided in two dimensions, one with theoretical implications and the other related to the empirical processes. From a theoretical point of view, the research shows how the "pure" participatory and deliberative democracy theories are inadequate to analyse the supralocal institutionalized processes. Neither of the two approaches addresses satisfactorily the limits of scale defined by authors who theoretically support the representative hegemonic model. Referring to institutionalization, the "pure" approaches were built on a conception that treats the State and the Civil Society as independent categories, each one with its own objectives and working logics. However, institutionalized processes put into question these boundaries between State and the Civil Society. In order to better analyse the large-scale institutionalized cases, it is necessary to work with hybrid perspectives, which revitalizes concepts criticized by the "pure" participatory and deliberative approaches, merging elements of both lines. In this way, the hybrid approaches of the Deliberative Systems and of the Participatory Publics are emphasized. The first emerges in the global north and works with the idea of "good enough" deliberation and not with the deliberative ideals, revitalizing the aspiration for a broad transformation of the political system. The systemic perspective moves from the microscale to the macro-scale, where the emphasis is on the articulation between institutions and in the deliberative division of labour. The Participatory Publics perspective has its origins in the global south and perceives the state and civil society as non-monolithic entities, questioning the fixed boundaries between these categories. The Participatory Publics approach perceives the institutionalization of participation in a non-negative way, emphasizing goals such as political inclusion and social justice. From an empirical point of view, this research shows that the cases of Rio Grande do Sul and Tuscany represent two different models of promoting the scaling-up of participation and deliberation. In these cases, the increase of scale was insufficient to promote a broad transformation in the political system. In respect to institutionalization, it was identified that the formalization through laws increases the resilience to government changes, contributing to the maintenance of the policies. However, the institutionalization is necessary but not sufficient. Defense Coalitions were fundamental in politically mobilizing the laws to ensure the policies' survival. Finally, it was noted that resilience does not mean influence in the heart of government and in the agenda setting processes. In fragmented states marked by a dispute between political projects, the Tuscan and Rio Grande do Sul initiatives were institutionalized on the margins of the political system. Despite being institutionalized and relatively resilient, the supralocal initiatives studied have not promoted participation as a method of government, and are incapable of extending the democratizing impetus to other arenas within the state apparatus. ; In the last decades, there has been an exponential growth of initiatives focused on participatory and deliberative democracy around the world, with a predominance of local experiences. Augustus has been represented in many ways in Western culture, but we must point out that in the big and small screen (except for some more recent productions), the audiovisual narratives about him are less common than those dedicated to other political leaders in Rome. Throughout the twentieth century, films set in Classical Antiquity emerged within a framework of late appropriation of the eighteenth century visual and literary culture, integrating narratives and images about Augustus that anticipated his filmic appearance. On one hand, representations of Imperial Rome on the screen tended to show a globalized and multicultural society and projected vague ideas of melting pot or American pax; on the other, we have seen recreations that balance between authenticity, entertainment and moralizing attitudes. Between these boundaries, various narratives and audiovisual compositions have been shaped around the historical figure of Augustus, which, in our opinion, must be reinterpreted within the framework of the so-called Studies of Reception, Film Studies and the History of Culture itself.
