This article represents an attempt to define the level of political correctness of the British press. Presently, in conditions of globalization, multiculturalism, and other international and national social processes the main forms of the world communication undergo substantial changes. Mass media play a key role in popularization of tolerance among the multi-layered society for the sake of its peaceful coexistence. Therefore, the investigation of the language ethics of the printed press as one of the political correctness aspects is a highly topical issue. More than 20 politically correct and non-correct lexical units obtained by continuous sampling from articles of the British press such as The Daily Telegraph and Daily Express for the period of 2017–2019 were analyzed in course of this study. By applying the descriptive and comparative methods the specific aspect of using lexemes in texts, extent and character of their emotional coloring both in quality and popular printed press were considered. Within the analyzed sample, the quality press was found to be tolerant approximately by 58 %, and the popular one – by 60 %. So, it may be supposed that the British press adheres to the political correctness principle on average by 59 %. The novelty of the study lies in the analysis of the present-day types and forms of the politically correct and non-correct lexis used in the press. Practical significance of this study implies a possibility of using its findings for further media research and analysis both theoretical and practical.

Great Britain has always been a country of traditions. Its high standards and rules of life are famous throughout the world. Working with articles from The Guardian information resource, we tried to analyze and understand how traditional British values are transformed nowadays. Analysis allowed us to identify several major categories of British traditional values. We found that not all values still exist in the modern world. Some of them gradually lost relevance, and some raised to a new level. In our work, we considered the following basic categories: politics, family and culture. Political values have lost their popularity, because attitudes towards political leaders have changed. It can be easily seen on the example of T. May political strategy. Due to Brexit Britain ceased to feel like a united country. Basic family values did not lose their positions and remain popular among the most part of British people. Cultural values (tolerance in particular) also continue to exist in the modern life, adapting to new realities. The results show that there are two opinions in the modern British information space. The British themselves still believe that they live according to old or common traditions. However, through the informational materials on The Guardian website, we saw that the society, in fact, doesn't follow traditions as much as before. The results of the work are important for the understanding of the process of mediatization in the UK and displaying social trends in the media. The work will help to study the functioning of the British media further.

The Ukrainian version of this article is the result of a thesis defended at Cambridge University (UK) for a master's degree in international relations by a British journalist of Ukrainian descent Yuri Bender. The thesis was supervised by Dr. Rory Finnin, Associate Professor of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Cambridge. The author examines the events in eastern Ukraine that led to the secession of the socalled Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic and their further attempts to function as separate autonomous regions (statelets). This study is based not so much on an analysis of a large scope of scientific literature published in the West in recent years, but primarily on the results of the author's several trips to eastern Ukraine before and after the Russian-Ukrainian war. The inability to visit self-proclaimed statelets, the so-called DPR and LPR, made it impossible to hold interviews in controlled by non-governmental organizations areas, with the exception of telephone conversations. However, the author conducted more than 40 semi-structured interviews with elites as well as members of the general public, with particular emphasis on 'giving voice' to ordinary Ukrainians disenfranchised by a political and media system dominated by oligarchical interests. These voices, several of them featured in this article, will be crucial in determining the future of Ukraine, just as they have shaped recent and long-term history. The research is based on a study of the impact of the economy and the identity of the population, supported by Moscow's foreign policy in the "near abroad" countries. The key economic factors of the temporary separation of the "statelets" took place against the background of changes in identity and elitist behavior. The subject of the study is the theoretical aspects of one of the important elements of the theory of de–shadowing of power – power relations to limit the shadow clan influence on the effectiveness of elite power, its consolidation through the introduction of strategic action (based on British experience). The purpose of the study is to determine the content of methods to limit the shadow clan influence on the effectiveness of elite power in the system of shadow «autonomous» state, the introduction in Ukraine of a modern model of power with the subject of strategic action. Methods of research. The work uses a set of scientific methods and approaches, including system, structural, functional, historical, logical, which allowed to provide a conceptual unity of research regarding the initial conditions of the formation of shadow power. Results of the work. The article substantiates the need to counteract the influence of elite, clan, shadow power in the form of shadow «autonomous» power on the internal processes of shadowing dual power, limiting their destructive influence by means of transition to a model of power with a consolidated subject of strategic action. Application of results. The system of sciences from the family of the field of public administration, a wide range of methodological aspects of social and economic, legal sciences on the problems of dysfunctional development of the research object, the investment aspect of the security policy. Conclusions. The article deals with complex interactions of main political forces inside the British Parliament, activities of Her Majesty's Opposition in different periods of historical development of Great Britain. Constructive competition between Opposition and the ruling party is stressed as a phenomenon causing progressive development of the United Kingdom and coming to proper decisions concerning its further democratic course. Both power and Opposition are mentioned to be united by the same purpose which is flourishing and common good of their state, welfare of their citizens and stable vision of the future. Relations between power and Opposition are always complex, multidimensional and sensitive to any changes in the political era. Significant influence on the nature of their relationship is made through the transformation taking place in modern society and its scientific perception. In the UK it is the active Opposition provides dynamism and fruitfulness, so that parliamentary government has the ability to predict future horizons of its reign. Studying the many-sided British experience in the labyrinth of power seems to be extremely significant for Ukraine considering its complicated apprehension of contradictory interaction and between power structures and other political forces facing contemporary challenges. ; У статті йдеться про владні відносини всередині Британського Парламенту, діяльність Опозиції ЇЇ Величності на різних етапах історичного розвитку Великої Британії. Відносини влади й Опозиції завжди залишаються складними, багатовимірними й чутливими до будь-яких змін політичної епохи. Суттєвий вплив на природу їхніх взаємовідносин здійснюється через трансформацію, яка відбувається і в сучасному суспільстві, і в його науковому сприйнятті. У Великій Британії активна діяльність Опозиції забезпечує динамічність і плідність, завдяки якій парламентська влада має можливість передбачити майбутні горизонти свого правління. Вивчення багатогранного британського досвіду в лабіринтах влади є доволі цінним для України з огляду на її непросте сприйняття взаємодії і протидії владних структур та інших політичних сил перед сучасними викликами.

J ohn Greaves, a British subject, was an important actor of modernization in the Russian Empire. He arrived at the port of Berdyansk as a representative of the British company Clayton & Shuttleworth, and he established a plant of agricultural machinery there, which became the largest plant of this kind in Europe. In 1877 Greaves offered himself for the position of German vice-consul in Berdyansk. In 1907 he became a vice-consul of the British Empire, and kept this post until 1918.Greaves and his family became an example of a new vector of actors' mobility and new practices of socialization, formed under the influence of modernization. These stimulated the emergence of new forms of loyalty, as well as the combination of economics and politics.Special attention is paid to the Greaves' family and business ties with the Germans, as well as on his personal experience of contacts with the German authorities, which is particularly interesting in the context of the competitive struggle between the British, Russian and German empires.Key words: modernization, elites, international relations, consulate, imperial biography ; С еред акторів модернізаційних процесів у Російській імперії поміт-ну роль відіграв британський підданий Джон Ґрієвз, який, прибув-ши до портового міста Бердянська в статусі представника британ-ської фірми "Clayton & Shuttleworth", заснував там завод із виготовлення сільськогосподарської техніки, що згодом став найбільшим заводом в Европі у відповідному сеґменті; ще 1877 р. Ґрієвз пропонував себе на по-саду німецького віце-консула в Бердянську, а 1907 р. став віце-консулом Британської імперії, залишаючись на цій посаді аж до 1918 р.Ґрієвз став прикладом нового вектора мобільности акторів і нових прак-тик соціялізації, що формувались під впливом модернізаційних процесів і стимулювали появу нових форм лояльностей, а також поєднання еко-номіки й політики. Тож на прикладі Джона Ґрієвза і членів його родини вивчено економічні й політичні еліти Півдня України часів його модерні-зації як стратегічно важливої складової Російської імперії. Модернізації, яка зазнавала впливів зокрема й з боку Британської імперії.Іншим аспектом, висвітленим у статті, який арґументує концепт імпер-ської біографії і при цьому є доволі показовим для характеристики мо-дернізаційних процесів у реґіоні, є родинні й ділові зв'язки Ґрієвза із нім-цями, а також персональний досвід його контактів із владою Німеччини, що особливо цікаво в контексті конкурентної боротьби, що розгорталась між Британською, Російською і Німецькою імперіями.Ключові слова: модернізація, еліти, міжнародні відносини, консульство, імперська біографія

У статті подається ретроспективний аналіз концептуальних основ освіти дорослих у поглядах провідних британських вчених-педагогів з початку ХХ століття до сьогодення. Зокрема, розглядаються доробки Дерека Легге, Кіріта Річмонда, Артура Стока, Річарда Генрі Таунея, Коліна Тітмуса, Пітера Джарвіса, Гарольда Уільтшира, Базіла Йекслі, науково-педагогічні погляди яких лягли в основу існуючої на сьогодні британської концепції освіти дорослих. Проаналізований матеріал може бути використаний при розробці національної концепції освіти дорослих. У перспективі доцільно провести детальний аналіз кожного з вищевказаних авторів, що може стати цінним теоретичним доробком для вітчизняної андрагогіки. ; The research conducted made it possible to find out that adult education in England evolved from the elementary forms (reading, writing, reckoning) to the complex ones (various forms and levels of education). That proves adult education to have become a unique system only in the second half of the XXth century. On the basis of the investigation five main stages were pointed out, each is a qualitatively new cycle of the English adult education formation and development and is determined by the peculiarities of social, political, economical and cultural development of the given country in a definite period.

This article presents the analysis of socio-cultural aspect of the concept of ARROGANCE in the British world view. The features of the British world view and mentality has been considered, as well as the factors influencing their formation. As the concept of ARROGANCE is the essential part of British world view and one of the hallmarks of the British mentality, it reflects the historical development and cultural life of the British community. The article investigates the concept of ARROGANCE verbalization under the influence of such sociocultural factors as national ideology, class stratification and imperial policy. The ways of representation of the concept of ARROGANCE are demonstrated with the examples from fiction and mass media as well as modern speech samples and slang. The examples of lexical and phraseological units reflecting the main aspects of arrogance in British culture have been selected and analyzed.Arrogance based on the class inequality through the prism of historical changes in the class structure of the British society. The layer of vocabulary that reflects the arrogance of the upper classes of society to the lower ones has been distinguished. The article also provides several samples of slang lexemes and phrases used to express superiority in the youth subcultures. Arrogance based on the national mentality was formed under the influence of the colonial policy of the British Empire, as well as the biased attitude of the British to the inhabitants of the continent. It is verbalized by means of national insults and jokes. Linguistic arrogance is connected to the class inequality, since language indicates belonging to certain class and social group. The analysis of the verbalization of the concept of ARROGANCE enables us to establish the peculiar sociocultural features of it in the British world and and outline the prospects for its further study. Репре- зентація концепту ARROGANCE продемонстрована на прикладах з художньої літератури та онлайн-джерел, а також сучасної розмовної лексики. Наведено приклади лексичних та фразеологічних одиниць, що відображають основні аспекти зверхності у британській лінгвокультурі. Зокрема, зверхність на основі класової нерівності аналізовано крізь призму історичних змін у класовій структурі суспільства Британії. Виокремлено шар лексики, який відображає зверхність вищих класів суспільства до нижчих. Описано зразки сленгу, які використовують для вираження зверхності до представників молодіжних субкультур. Зверхність на основі національного менталітету сформувалась під впливом колоніальної політики Британської імперії, а також тривалого упередженого ставлення британців до жителів континенту. Однією зі сторін репрезентації концепту ARROGANCE є націо- нальні стереотипи та жарти стосовно представників інших націй. Лінгвістична зверхність тісно пов"язана із класовою зверхністю, оскільки мова – індикатор належності до класів та соціальних груп. Лінгвістична зверхність знаходить прояв у поділі діалектів на елітні та непрестижні, прагненні позбутись акценту у вимові та дотримуватись мовних стандартів. Проведений аналіз репрезентації концепту ARROGANCE дозволяє встано- вити характерні соціокультурні ознаки концепту у британській картині світу та окреслити перспективи його подальшого дослідження. The article critically analyzes the methodological state of linguocultural conceptology and touchesupon the problematic issues that require their further development. The main attention is focused on the need to revise thestructure of linguistic and cultural concepts and, in this regard, to clarify the terminological designation of these mentalformations. It is assumed that each concept of the linguoculture acquires conceptual status only when it is value-evaluative toits members, and therefore a synergetic combination of such entities is axioconceptosphere – motivational continuum of theirexistence. It is defined that the main task of linguoconceptologists is associated with the search of the relevant for thereconstruction of such motivational continuum of British and Ukrainian ethnic cultures methodological tools, to prove thatthe allocation of linguistic and cultural concepts of the value layer only as one of the components of their structures simplifiesthe mental and panchronic (deeply diachronic, etymological, historical and modern) nature of this type of formations. It isproposed three-orthodox (dimensional, cognitive-linguocomparative and linguo-synergetic) methodological approach for theanalysis of diachronic and synchronic structure of actually value concepts – TRUTH, GOOD, BEAUTY, BENEFIT that havebeen identified by ancient thinkers and successive generations of philosophers as the basic value categories and whosubsequently laid the foundations of the entire sciences – logic, ethics, aesthetics, which were considered to be a complexsystem of significant priorities (individual, collective and universal) in the life of each ethnic group and its individualrepresentative. In the article the researcher defined the stages of effective methods and techniques application for thereconstruction in British and Ukrainian axioconceptospheres: the first stage involves the application of methods of cognitiveand linguo-comparative studies, in particular, the method of a diachronic review of the etymological versions of the originalvalues of the names of these concepts, their synonyms and derivatives of the etymological sources of the English andUkrainian languages (with the help of Indo-European etymological dictionaries), the second stage – methods of structurallinguistics, modern lexical and cognitive semantics. Сформульоване головне завданнялінгвоконцептологів, пов'язане з пошуками придатних для реконструкції подібного мотиваційного континуумубританської та української етнокультур методологічних інструментів, за допомогою яких вдасться довести, щовиокремлення в лінгвокультурних концептах ціннісного шару лише як одного з компонентів їхніх структур спрощуєментальну й панхронічну (глибоко діахронічну, етимологічну, історичну й сучасну) природу такого типу утворень.Запропоновано тріортодоксальний (димензіональний, когнітивно-лінгвокомпаративний, лінгвосинергетичний)методологічний підхід для аналізу діахронно-синхронної структури власне ціннісних концептів – TRUTH, GOOD,BEAUTY, BENEFIT / ІСТИНА, ДОБРО, КРАСА, КОРИСТЬ, визначених античними мислителями та подальшимипоколіннями філософів як базові ціннісні категорії і які згодом заклали основи цілих наук – логіки, етики, естетики,де їх розглядали як складноорганізовану систему ЗНАЧУЩИХ пріоритетів (індивідуальних, колективних,загальнолюдських) у житті кожного етносу й окремого його представника. Визначено етапи застосуванняефективних методів і методик для реконструкції британської і української аксіоконцептосфер: перший етаппередбачає застосування методів когнітивної лінгвокомпаративістики, зокрема методу діахронічного коментаряетимологічних версій первісних значень імен зазначених концептів, їх синонімів і дериватів в етимологічнихджерелах англійської та української мов (із залученням словників індоєвропейської етимології), другий – методівструктурної лінгвістики, сучасної лексичної і когнітивної семантики.

The article is devoted to the question of designing disability in the literary discourse of Great Britain in the first half of the nineteenth century. The theoretical core on which work rests is the study of non-normative corporeality, namely, its integral part – disability studies. They arose in the second half of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century on the wave of struggle of the class, racial, gender, sexual, ethnic and other marginalized groups against discrimination. Their representatives focused on the reflection of people with sensory, intellectual, cognitive, psychological or physical disabilities in philosophy, culture, art, politics, economics, sociology and literature. In Ukrainian literary studies, the problem of disability is poorly investigated. In isolated works, scientists outline the achievements of modern writers. Thus, the purpose of the article is to analyze the historical contexts of non-normative corporeality, namely, the works of English romantic writers. The main task of the work is to highlight the peculiarities of constructing the system of images and characters with disabilities in the cult Gothic novel by Mary Shelley «Frankenstein; or Modern Prometheus» (1818) and the unfinished tragedy of George Gordon Byron «The Deformed Transformed» (1822). As a result, it can be stated that the social model of the disability is leading in the formation of narrative lines of the main characters with a strong emphasis on their rejection and alienation from the space of healthy people. Unusual heroes of both works are filled with external and internal contradictions. Their images are deeply metaphorical, tabooed and stigmatized by the immediate environment and society. The dichotomous pairs the creator – creation, Self – Other, norm – deviation, beautiful – ugly or the person with disabilities – society are complemented by fairy-tale, legendary, mystical, fantastic and mythical elements. This article is devoted to the Summer Olympics in Moscow in 1980, specifically, the issue of participation the team from Great Britain, which was manifested in the "boycott the Olympics". Paid attention to display the main cause of the boycott and study the role of the British and American governments in its organization.The article notes, that boycott the Olympic Games in Moscow was the impetus for a mass protest the countries of the world against the aggressive policy of the USSR in the late 1970s towards Afghanistan, by pressure on the National Olympic Committees of world powers.The article contains information about the most discussion questions concerning American "alternative games" or the "post - Olympics International Sports Festival" as an alternative summer Olympic Games in Moscow. The novelty of this problem is that British-soviet relations especially in the sphere of sport in 1980 will be researched for the first time. The article analyzes the role and place of the British military mission in Yugoslavia at the Draze Mihailovich' headquarters in 1941–1944. The attention is paid to the tasks of British liaisons officers. The personal list of the mission is presented. The conditions of staying on the territory of Yugoslavia are researched. The results of Teheran Conference (1943) which have been considered had a significant impact on the Yugoslav resistance movement and especially on the Chetniks movement.Key words: Great Britain, Yugoslavia, II World War, resistance movement, military missions, Chetniks, Draza Mihailovich. ; У статті проаналізовані роль та місце британських військових місій у Югославії при штабі Драже Михайловича в 1941–1944 рр.
