Abstract This article examines the anti-schistosomiasis campaign of the 1950–1960s from a new perspective, based on three historical sources from the central and local governments: the People's Daily, Xuefangshi (anti-schistosomiasis records) and the learning documents from a brigade of Hubei province of 1964. The main impetus for eradicating schistosomiasis was to increase agricultural production and mobilize the people to actively participate in local construction projects. While existing literature on the campaign focuses on propaganda and government motivations, this article aims to build on this body of work by investigating how the central government of the People's Republic of China promoted the three-day antimony potassium tartrate (APT) treatment and why villagers resisted the campaign. The People's Daily offers the central government's point of view, promoting the idea that the disease could be cured and that the three-day APT treatment, designed to shorten treatment period and lessen medical expense in comparison to long-term APT treatment, was safe and effective. However, Xuefangshi and the learning documents revealed that the villagers were not willing to undergo the three-day APT treatment because of their concern about medical expenses, the possibility of losing work points and agricultural production; the villagers devised creative ways of avoiding the treatment and providing fecal samples for examination. In addition, it was difficult to convince villagers to consent to hospitalization, though the central government advertised widely that the disease could be cured and that the three-day treatment was successful. This article also uses the health behavior model to explore the villagers' behaviors with regard to avoiding the treatment. It concludes that although the central government promoted the treatment, the villagers did not respond well to the campaign.

El objetivo del trabajo es analizar el grado de apertura y concentración/diversificación geográfica del comercio entre Estados Unidos y China en el período 1990-2021. Para ello se utilizan dos indicadores de comercio exterior: el Coeficiente de Apertura y el Índice Herfindahl-Hirschman (IHH). El estudio muestra que Estados Unidos ha experimentado una presencia relativamente menor que China en los mercados internacionales, y que en ambas potencias económicas existe una mayor diversificación de productos y mercados de exportación. Derivado de la posición y el creciente dinamismo comercial de China en los mercados internacionales, en 2018 Estados Unidos inició un cambio en la política comercial, desde una posición de mayor apertura, hacia la construcción estratégica de un bloque regional proteccionista frente a China, materializado en el Tratado entre México, Estados Unidos y Canadá (T-MEC).

This book offers a theoretical intervention into the normative ideals of public space that are deeply rooted in Western urbanism. It disrupts the binaries of presence/absence, inclusion/exclusion by presenting a series of case studies that vividly convey the complexity and vicissitude of grassroots spatial practices. It engages powerfully with the question of what constitutes the "urban public" in our everyday cities. Moreover, it provides a fresh perspective on the proliferating scholarship on Chinese urbanism in the reform era by seriously considering the ways in which ordinary urban inhabitants respond to and negotiate the impacts of rapid social change and the reshuffling of the systems of values and ideologies. The urban public, therefore, is analyzed as an important field in which identities and cultural differences are formed and performed. Purpose. The article deals with the key areas of cooperation between the PRC and the EU in the context of modern international relations, characterized by crisis processes associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of the study is to identify the features of interaction between China and the European Union at the present stage within the framework of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative and the "16 + 1" format aimed at strengthening partnership relations between China and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Results. The "PRC-EU Investment Agreement" signed in 2020 demonstrated the partners' desire to reach a consensus on investment policy, market openness, mainly Chinese, fair competition, sustainable development, minimizing the risks of rapid entry of Chinese companies into the European market and reducing the trade imbalance in partner relations. During the online meeting of the leaders of the PRC and the EU in September 2021, the partners, despite the existing contradictions, confirmed their readiness to strengthen partnership in the current crisis conditions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the history of Chinese people staying on Russian territory there is still a lot of questions and areas for investigation and clarification. It is clear that the interaction between the Russians and the Chinese had a direct impact on the further development of Russian- Chinese relations. One of the unique event in the history of Russian-Chinese relations was the 6th Congress of the Communist Party of China, held in Moscow region in the Pervomayskoe village. It was the only Congress of the CPC held abroad and the Congress, where Marxism was adopted by the Chinese Communists, and later it was spread to China. In fact, the Congress was the starting point of the process of Marxism Sinification. The delegates of the 6th Congress included the Chinese immigrants who worked and studied in the USSR. They are directly influenced by the October Revolution which changed their way of thinking, these were people who perceived the ideas of Marxism-Leninism early, they organized the holding of this congress, where examined in detail the possible ways of the Chinese revolution. By adopting Marxism- Leninism and starting its propaganda, they have made a significant contribution to its spread in China in the form of Sinificated Marxism. The further destiny and life of overseas Chinese were different, but almost all of them were closely linked to the Chinese revolution and the transformation process in the Chinese society in the middle of the 20th century. The authors described in detail the composition of the participants and organizers of the Congress, analyzed the content of speeches and reports of the head of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China at the congress, considered the further destiny of the participants and delegates.

The Internet of Things and Industry 4.0 is changing the way we live including Internet Banking. Although, the government has been encouraging, the acceptance of internet banking is still not well received by Chinese customers. The reason is because they are more concerned about the economic development on the banking industry, and less concerned about technology acceptance and its development. This lack of acceptance is also attributed to the current lack of social network influence to internet banking which including its weak compliance, lack of identification, and lack of internalization. This paper aims to identify the factors that may be influencing IB acceptance by proposing a model which can determine customer's behavioural intention based on social network influence. The TAM, UTAUT and the Social Influence Theory (SIT) were simultaneously adopted for this study. It is to use the TAM model's perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness, the UTAUT model's social influence, and the SIT's compliance, identification and internalization factor for the analysis. For this purpose, a preliminary study was first administered so as to identify customers' attitude of the IB acceptance. Thirty respondents were recruited for a structured interview. The behavioural intention and social network influence on internet banking in China was then examined with the proposed model. It appears that the model can be used to forecast Chinese customers' acceptance of internet banking. It will give benefits to bank and society on paying attention to the influence of social network for internet banking in China.

This introductory article examines the concept of strategic localization, which is central to the theme of this Special Issue ofPolitics & Policy. We focus on how African states, for regime survival and/or pragmatic reasons, reinterpret China's development discourse and preferences and implement them in their local contexts. We hypothesize that the China model of development has become a rhetorical commonplace used to legitimize policies perceived to be: (1) better for regime survival (e.g., no political conditionalities; dissemination of resources to elites); and (2) superior to other development models (more suitable for developing countries, better at developing strong states). The article will also give a synopsis of the other articles in the Special Issue-highlighting their main arguments and findings.
