Habermas discusses the chances for the establishment of world citizenship in contemporary society, marked by multiculturalism and the process of globalization. Habermas identifies the historical configuration of the post-national constellation, and from there themed the transition from international law to the law of citizens of the world, which aligns the concept of citizenship to the idea of human rights. Habermas analyzes the Kantian idea of a cosmopolitan state in which citizens are legal subjects of their respective States and members of a cosmopolitan entity. Kant elaborates on the concept of world republic, which Habermas disagrees with, but offers the example of the European Union for a discussion on the realization of a just and peaceful international order. Based on the Kantian orientation of constituting an order of world citizenship, Habermas discusses the conformation and viability of this idea in contemporary times. For Habermas, it is possible to spell out the idea of cosmopolitan citizenship. From the European Union, cooperation between States and citizens shows that a cosmopolitan community is needed to complement an international community of States.

The official counsel of the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in charge of the ED treaty final negotiations writes about the new Lisbon Treaty. The new treaty is but the last stage of a slow process of reorganization of the European project which started back in 1992, with the Maastricht Treaty. Two issues were stake in the final negotiations: it was not possible to depart from the substance of the EU Constitutional treaty land it should be rewritten so as to be unreadable. The opacity of the new treaty may yet have negative consequences & will certainly not cone political mobilization of European Citizens. Adapted from the source document.

We have chosen to look at Catholicism because this is a religion that poses special challenges to Beijing & shows us how the human spirit is able to survive even in the most adverse conditions. Since the 1980s of the 20th century the relationship between media literacy and citizenship has been included in political and academic discourses. In a simplistic way, bureaucrats and researchers have long recognized that with basic media literacy skills and competencies, individuals will change their citizenship practices: they will be better citizens. This paper summarizes some results of research developed between 2009 and 2013 in cies-iul, and show that the relationship between media literacy competencies and citizenship practices was insipid - or even non-existent.
The aim of this article is to analyze the expansion of the concept of citizenship in its application to nonhuman animals and the relation with the idea of a decent and civilized society. For this objective, it starts with the discussion about animal rights in the book Zoopolis: the political theory of animal rights, by Sue Donaldson and Will Kymlicka. Contrary to theories that basically emphasize the negative aspects of animal rights, the right not to be harmed, not to be tortured etc., this paper grounds a more positive aspect of Right, prioritizing duties and obligations towards animals for beyond the ethical perspective. This issue leads to the development of a political perspective of the concept of citizenship applied to animals on the assumption that geographical and public spaces are shared and thus, the interrelationships between humans and animals, are inevitable. In this sense, this article analyzes this concept of animal citizenship and investigate it with the concepts of humiliation and decent and civilized society of Avichai Margalit. Finally, it seeks to base a homo-zoopolitical perspective on society that includes animals in political principles.
Alternative means of dispute resolution are sought a long time as an access to justice more humane. Without the imposition of an intervening power, the parties have gain more autonomy in their decisions. The extension project of the Federal University of Paraíba "Citizenship in Extension: Access to Justice and Conflict Mediation", linked to the Reference Center for Human Rights (CRDH) aims to address the theme "Access to Justice", using one of the extrajudicial dispute resolution methods, namely: Mediation. The following year, the Guardian Council has become the chosen space, working directly with the Mediation. Building a sense of unity among residents of a community is one of the goals of this project with respect to collective issues. And mediation, with respect to individual issues. With the prospect of working together, this project follows its activity, achieving its main goals: empowering individuals and fostering active citizenship.
State educational services suffered a plague of privatisation during the 1980s and 1990s, inspired by the neoliberal hegemony of the time. This article looks into what contribution education can make to the construction of an informed, and participative democracy. The teaching of science and technology needs to be based on principles of justice and equality, and, to ensure that all have equal opportunity to reach the highest levels, should be public, free and of high quality.
