This work aims to explain the different ways of conceiving Republicanism among catholic conservatives in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, by comparing these republics during the Nineteenth Century. The focus of the study is to connect the conflicting relationship between religion and politics through a discussion on the so-called "catholic republic", in opposition to the republican model envisioned by liberals and radicals. The role of the Catholic Church in the modern world was a central concern for conservatives who wanted to insert the American reality in the wider context of the "catholic civilization", which served as a point of connection for the catholic community and the political modernity. This insertion was not easy. The political conflicts as a result of this ideological discussion will become more apparent during the second half of the Nineteenth Century. In some cases, reaching high levels of political violence. In this article, we will concentrate in three aspects of the discussion that we regard as central: the idea of nation, the religious tolerance and the education.

This article examines how Cayetano Betancur's conservatism is reflected in his political philosophy. The first chapter includes two meanings of the term 'conservative' that encompass broadly, the two main tendencies of political conservatism. The second chapter is dedicated to analyzing how each of these two meanings (which we call negative and positive) are reflected in Betancur's work. At the conclusion we refer to the possible directions towards which a more exhaustive investigation of political conservatism in Betancur could be directed.

The discussions on the democracy cannot avoid to give response to the fact that while it is "consolidated", people live worse. What can seem a paradox, in reality shows that, in the conceptions as well as in the political practice, prevails a related democracy conception with the excluding objectives of the neoliberal capitalistic domination: the governable democracy. These visions and practical permeate, even, to trigger it of the left parties in Latin America, that nevertheless their growing political and institutional presence, remain conditioned to a political logic that weakens their transforming potential. After discussing the historical and theoretical relationships of the Marxism and the liberalism with the democracy, this work faces theoretical, historical and politically the process in which the governable democracy, that it is a method of political and social control, it has been imposed as the democracy "actually existing". Also are approached their contradictions and the crisis that crosses today Latin America.

; While during the last military dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983), terror induced individuals to withdraw from public to private spaces–implying a social atomization process–, the Jewish milieu saw a significant increase in the number of institutions belonging to a religious movement called Conservative Judaism. In this article, we analyze the motivations that led the leaders of these institutions located in Buenos Aires, to adhere to this particular religious stream. Our research follows the unfolding of this dynamic, from the first contacts to the practices developed by the "religious scholars" of the movement. In particular, we determine the meanings and representations that circulated around the implications of developping a religious practice. In those years, when the authorities of Argentina's military dictatorship sought to reshape society and depoliticize it, Conservative Judaism offered the Jewish community a religious, social and extremely rich cultural life, adapted to the guidelines and regulations of the time. ; Fil: Schenquer, Laura. Drama is a genre in literature that recreates not only existing actions but also interprets the different versions of truth put on stage. Sarah Kane, a dramatist, is usually associated with the new theatrical form of writing called the in-yer-face theatre. Kane, after writing her last play, 4.48 Psychosis commits suicide. For this reason, many critics consider this play as a 'suicide notes' which makes it limiting since these critics do not pay attention to her extensive use of styles and her experimental shift from conservative to avant-garde dramatic constructions. While her earlier works Blasted, Phaedra's Love and Cleansed were centred principally on shock irritating violent and relatively hostile metaphors, the style of her two last plays Crave and 4.48 Psychosis shifts blatantly as they are written in a conspicuously poetic style. Her last play which is the focus of this study swings from conventional to unconventional style of writing given that she deviates from the classical presentation of drama. This study uses the theoretical backdrop of Postmodernism for its analysis. The paper demonstrates that analysing 4.48 Psychosis in connection to Kane's life and death is restrictive and biased as it procures a plethora of innovative scopes.

AbstractThe knowledge of the history of the conservation of our Built Heritage, requires the study of the political and social framework of each period, the integration of international currents, their adaptation, normative development, organizational structures, etc., to finally pay attention to the people who carried out the interventions understanding their own intellectual and critical debate. Among the different structured responses, we find a group of architects endowed with their own entity, backed by a broad legislative framework, which has not been given specific attention as a group, although its components, given its individual notoriety. We refer to the so-called Zone Architects or Area Conservation Architects, whose figure is set by the Law of 1933, or rather by its Regulations of 1936, although its existence is earlier, remaining until the dawn of Democracy.

ABSTRACT This article explores a small samplingof the broader discursive climate surroundingconservativism in Porfirian Mexico. Ianalyze conservative strategies to politicallyvalence language, dictionaries, and especiallyneologisms. Ironically, Porfirian conservativesconsistently activated the language of science–traditionally deemed the remit of liberalism–to gain a foothold in their ongoing culturalwar. Finally, I also allude the thought ofÉmile Durkheim so as to show that Porfirianconservativism ultimately aimed to sacralizethe prevailing social order.

This paper examines how the discourse of opinion of the Spanish conservative press frequently uses symbols of intense emotional component to generate alarm and mobilization of citizens faced with situations considered unjust. The analysis is done on two prominent authors' columns published between 2004 and 2008 to discuss the introduction of the subject Education for Citizenship. The results demonstrate the presence of recurrent rhetorical devices with remarkable historical resonance. Promoting the threat prevents rational and dispassionate analysis that should distinguish opinion journalism committed to democratic life. One may isolate recurring conceptual nodules in the work of some political historians so as to configure a model for conservative thinking. The notion of 'genealogy' exposes the relational nature of political conservatism, and emphasizes both its agonistic character and institutional anchorage. One may then hypothesize a 'conservative moment' which would correspond to an institutional refashioning. Such an hypothesis dilutes the protagonism of individual subjects and questions the constituent power of a conservative corpus of ideas, except for the one discernible in constitutional affairs. Instead of importing those ideas into a coup d'etat, a genealogical approach reverses the argument and suggests that the dictatorship illuminates the past, bestowing a unifying articulation and meaning to authors who, in spite of their affinities, exhibit significant differences. This genealogical approach also sidelines notions like 'corpus of ideas' or 'models of thought' that pertain to the philosophy of mind.
