I argue that Rawls' reading of Kant has been a major influence on the work of some contemporary Kantian scholars. Rawls' influence on the new Kantian moral theory can be recognized in several points: a) the conception of philosophy as a "deeply practical project", which leads to the adoption of a first-person approach to ethics; b) the reception of Kant's philosophy within a pragmatic context, which leads to play down the metaphysical implications of Kant's dualisms, in favor of an interpretation which seems plausible within a political culture given in advance c) a characteristic interpretation of Kant's moral constructivism, which while stressing the primacy of the right over the good, tries to specify the ways in which the good plays a role in morals, thereby opening a way to show the relevance of the empirical in Kant's ethics d) an approach to Kant's practical reason which stresses the complementarities between the Hypothetical and the Categorical Imperative, interpreted in the light of Rawls' distinction between the Rational and the Reasonable; e) the central role played by the concept of "rational nature" in the new Kantian moral theory, which may likewise be related to Rawls' concern for clarifying the conception of the person behind his approach to practical reason.

The current dominant theory concerning the diffusion of innovation (DOI) was proposed by Rogers (1995). Its ontological basis is Social Constructivism (SC). This paper suggests that SC leads to explanations that are not valid in some industry environments. This paper further suggests that these limitations can be overcome by adopting a Critical Realist ontology (CR). Social constructivism does not allow for the possibility that external forces can determine how a business operates but lead one to believe that that management, independent of these external forces, determines the structure and mode of operation of its business. Research was conducted into the uptake of the IS-enabled listing, sales and clearance systems and the resultant structural changes in the stockbroking sector of the finance industry. It was found that, in this industry-sector, government and professional and regulatory bodies have had an overwhelming influence on the form of, extent and the technological requirements that stockbrokers needed to adopt should they wish to operate in the sector. It was also observed that these regulatory bodies affected the extent to which the firms could use the Internet to transform the business and the procedures firms could use. In addition the compulsory use of the trading systems imposed on the then present and prospective brokers acted as a barrier to entry thus maintaining a balance based on the predefined criteria designed and implemented by the sector's regulatory bodies. The paper disputes the condition, stated by Rogers(1983), that technology adoption can be examined independently of the role of these important external impositions. Hence a critical realist lens was employed as an underlying philosophy to help explain the observed technology adoptions. The benefits of such a philosophical grounding are highlighted.

The article points out global phenomena that should be considered in developing professionalism of NFE educators. The phenomena are (1) globalization, (2) universalization of education, (3) competency-based education, (4) constructivism, (5) ICT-based education, (6) regional autonomy, (7) National Education Systems Act, (8) Government Regulation on National Standard Education, (9) national competitiveness, (10) education autonomy, (11) Organizational health. Other aspects influencing NFE programs are philosophy and trends in education regarding (1) competency, and life skill-based education, (2) participant-oriented instruction, (3) the use of media for learning especially electronic media, and (4) basic technology education. NFE deals with problems in regards of educators, that is the small number and unqualified personnel. Topic suggests that a model called Integrated competency-based action research would help improve the quality of educators' performance. The model is systemic, interdependent, and functional. It recommends that partnerships with all respective parties are prime of important.

All political scientists offer us their interpretations of the world. Interpretive approaches differ from many others in that they offer us interpretations of interpretations; they concentrate on meanings, beliefs, languages, discourses, and signs, as opposed to, say, laws and rules, correlations between social categories, or deductive models. Of course, this distinction between interpretive approaches and others is not an all or nothing affair: sensible interpretivists allow that the study of laws, correlations, and models can play a role in our exploration of practices; and sensible institutionalists, behavioralists, and rational choice theorists allow that their typologies, correlations, and models can do explanatory work only in so far as they can be unpacked in terms of the actual beliefs and desires of actors. Nonetheless, we can distinguish a family of interpretive approaches to political science that stand out in that they focus on meanings and beliefs – a family that includes decentred theory, ethnography, poststructuralism, practical philosophy, and social constructivism, and that overlaps with other approaches such as the constructivist and ideational forms of institutionalism.

The concept of nature is analyzed in contemporary epistemology, science studies (Derrida, Luhmann, Latour, Zizek, Haraway) as well as emerging technosciences (Life Science, i.e. Artificial Life, robotics). Diverse, transdisciplinary stories are getting related: The decline of modern philosophy of nature, the critique of the ´metaphysics of presence´, the emergence of technoscience as well as the development of new ontological groundings in technosciences themselves. In doing this, related movements of denaturalization, dematerialisation and renaturalization in critical theory and technoscience become visible: Posthumanism and deontologization seems at least as much brought forward by technoscience´s new denaturalized ontology as by contemporary approaches in constructivism, deconstructivism and system theory. With a little help from Donna Haraway, and others conditions are worked out for a transdisciplinary concept of nature beyond essentialism, sentimentalization as well as abstract negation and hyperproductionism. This aims at a new concept of nature, which neither neglects the enlightening critique of representation politics nor ignores and thereby supports unintentionally the new posthuman, technoscientific concept of nature without being aware of its groundings and consequences.

One of the key challenges currently facing humanities and computing scholars is the generation of new conventions, particularly new forms of narration and representation to support student development of critical thinking skills. Drawing inspiration from the writings of the communication theorist Harold Innis, this study argues that conventions supporting information visualization - the production of visual analogues of ideas or patterns represented by text and number - can help students apprehend and interrogate concepts. The experience of the 3D Virtual Buildings Project suggests that a program devoted to 3D computer modelling is one way that Innis' ideas might be realized. Through tutorials students learn to reconstruct models of historic Canadian settlements and to translate historic data into numeric information for a 3D model. Most importantly, the tutorials show students that historical models are inherently imperfect, at best partial reconstructions of the past. Through a process of information translation and visualization, students learn to distinguish historical models from the objects they purport to represent.

National audience ; Théoricienne bien connue comme initiatrice de la Queer Theory, Judith Butler est en train de reprendre, par l'originalité de sa pensée et la radicalité de ses propos, le flambeau du féminisme intellectuel et sa pensée devient désormais la référence obligée de toute revendication portant sur les discriminations de sexe et de genre. Cette appropriation politique de la pensée de Butler, qui mélange allègrement et savamment des styles de pensée aussi différents que ceux de Hegel et Austin, Kripke et Derrida, Lacan et Foucault, ne va pas sans rencontrer quelques résistances, mais elle est nécessaire tant elle devient reconnue au niveau international. En témoigne la multiplicité des propos, interviews, articles d'elle actuellement publiés en France. S'il ne s'agit pas de nier l'originalité philosophique de ses réflexions et leur importance stratégique dans le champ politique contemporain, il convient de prendre au sérieux ses considérations philosophiques pour examiner leur pertinence et la portée de leur radicalité présumée. J. Butler adopte en effet un hyper-constructivisme et se propose de montrer que ce n'est pas seulement le genre qui est socialement construit, mais aussi le sexe et qu'il est donc abusif de poser une frontière nette entre un genre qui cantonnerait les individus à tenir deux rôles précis et dotés d'attributions différentes et une réalité sexuelle supposée universelle et biologiquement fondée. En réalité, selon J. Butler, la division sexuelle fondée sur la biologie est tout autant une construction sociale que le partage des rôles homme/femme. Il n'y aurait ainsi pas plus de distinction mâle/femelle que de distinction entre les rôles d'homme et de femme fondée en nature. Il faudrait bien plutôt comprendre que la réalité sexuelle scindée entre un pôle mâle et un pôle femelle résulte elle-même d'une construction qu'elle appellera performative. Performative car cette construction réaliserait même ce dont elle parle, ou parce que les normes sexuelles ne seraient pas tant descriptives ...
